Brilliant Tapas meal. My wife and I visited this evening after having seen the Tapas Night advertised. Four dishes plus bread and olives for £15.00pp. The food was delicious, real variety of dishes, and great sized portions. Absolutely stuffed at the end of the meal. Wish I’d taken photos to share with you. Big shout out to the staff too…friendly, welcoming, attentive and cheerful. Overall, a great evening, highly recommended.

I have had Sunday lunch here before, but I was rather disappointed yesterday. Roast beef should be roasted not braised, which makes it tender but you cannot have it rare or even pink. Roast potatoes were good but the Yorkshire pudding was awful, more like a small scone, I did complain about it to the waitress but she just looked embarrassed. Vegetables were plentiful and good as was the gravy. So a dinner of two halves. You have been better!

We were Looking for a fabulous pub lunch....the majority of venues being shut on Mondays...so we found The Blacksmiths Inn, Battle. Never been before. The reviews are great. The menu is fabulous, very different to the normal fayre. They do small plates, which we ordered and loved, baked camembert was gorgeously melted to perfection. Sussex Smokey with Haddock was creamy and delicious. Garlic mushrooms and smoked meat platter was also divine ....all presented beautifully with bread and relishes. Its a beautiful pub, with little outside area's, and a huge inside area with comfortable seating and tables. We loved the food it was perfect. We're going again for Sunday lunch, can't wait! Fantastic staff...😉Georgia is lovely and knows her food 😍Its going to be high on our 'go to' list as regulars. What a find!

Our 3rd visit in 2 months - for lunch (delicious), coffee + cake (yum), Sunday lunch (oh my!). This is definitely NOT a traditional gastro pub, the food is all home made by someone who knows how to cook good food! Prices are fair - you get what you pay for, after all. The obvious popularity of this eaterie is testament to the consistent excellent quality of the food served along with the very warm welcome. Booking for the weekend is essential!

Gastro pub it is not. Interior decor is quite wacky and looks like its been assembled from pieces of old scrap wooden pallets with bits of old garage and house doors. Very strange for a country pub. Our corner of the main bar was cold. The menu isn't extensive and all the food we ordered tasted pretty average with too much salt in my suet steak and kidney pudding making me extremely thirsty. The chips served with fish are just frozen chunky oven chips, not gastro pub triple cooked as in other similar establishments. Main courses averaged £15 - £18 which for the quality of food was expensive. Parking is limited in the small pub car park, some side street parking.

We have visited here before, just stopping for a coffee previously. This time we booked a table for the Sunday lunch and what a lovely experience it was. The staff were friendly and helpful, from the moment we walked in, and made the overall experience so much more pleasing. Then came the food.... All I can say it you won't be disappointed! Both the starter and main were fresh, hot and full of flavour. Unfortunately we were unable to experience the pudding menu as we were full from the previous. I would highly recommend this place, even just dropping in for a drink, in passing.

Wonderful food, I had the chicken and ham pie with seasonal vegetables, my wife had fish & chips. Beautiful shortcrust pastry and vegetables just perfect, not too hard or too soft, full of flavour. Love the rustic chic vibe of the place. Would recommend to anyone. Possibly, slightly on the pricey side if you were going for main dishes and drinks, but worth it in my opinion.

The sun was shining, spring was in the air, and all I wanted was a cold beer, the company of my family, and... a ploughman's! A quick Google lead us to the White Hart just up the road in Catsfield... ordered a beer, waited for wife n kids, asked for a menu... and a great fat no! Turns out their website is 8 months out of date. So there I was, no phone signal, no internet, a substandard beer...and no ploughman's!! Thankfully the wife had a bar of signal and quickly called pubs in the area before I got disappointingly hangry! This bought us just round the corner to The Blacksmiths Inn, Ninfield, who greeted us with a very accommodating attitude... "yes, we can make one for you" was their reply. When we got there, we couldn't see it on the menu, yet they went above and beyond to throw something together, and what they provided certainly didn't disappoint. I was happy, the wife was happy & my belly was happy!... Blacksmiths Inn, Ninfield. Nice atmosphere, friendly and welcoming staff, great food, eager to please, and now Widget's Seal of Approval

We struggled to find an excuse for the high pricing on the menu. £15 for a burger and chips; fish and chips £15; sausage and mash £15; scampi and chips £15, liver and bacon £16. If the food was something to write home about rather than very average we might have understood. ‘Gastro Pub’ indeed. There are a number of pub-restaurants in the area who provide better food at better prices. Avoid unless your names are Tarquinius and Fenella.

We have not been to a pub since lock down , but on our way home yesterday from a day out we decided to stop, as we hadn't been here before. We only ordered a pint of lager and a glass of wine. I had to send my wine glass back 3 times because it was so dirty. On the 3rd time my partner reinspected and said look can you wash it up please it's still dirty. With Covid I seriously think all establishments should have attention to the most important details as Hygiene. It's hard for businesses to keep trade going with current situation in the world but surely a clean glass is the minimum I should expect.

I went with three friends, two of us had the skate wings which were undercooked,(they would have been much nicer if fried with a crispy skin),and the broccoli was hard. The skate was white mush! However the other meals my friends ordered were enjoyed. We did have to wait 40 minutes for our food, they must have been short-staffed in the kitchen as there weren't many people eating. I'm giving 3 stars as my two other friends liked their meals.

This self-proclaimed 'gastro pub' is easy to find as it sits on the corner as you drive into Ninfield (which is not exactly a 20 million person metropolis...). The pub is reasonably cosy and makes an effort to draw in the crowds with special food evenings - 'Spice Night', 'Tapas Night' with the inevtiable English Roast Lunches of a Sunday and Wednesday if I'm not mistaken.I can't give you an opinion (yet) about the latter, as it was my first visit to the Blacksmith's Inn and it was a Tuesday to celebrate a family birthday, and so 'Spice Night' it was.The menu is understandably limited - maybe 6 or so main dishes - but there was something for everyone (including Vegans), so expectations were up.The food was (surprisingly) well prepared and well presented. The Seafood Red Thai Curry was delicious with just the right amount of heat. So, it's a 7 out of ten for food, and a rather more modest 4/10 for ambiance and decor.

This pub is within walking distance of home so absolute sense to take advantage of the New Year's Eve special 5 course meal to celebrate the arrival of 2020. There were not huge numbers of people in the dining room, but others were in the less formal areas of the pub and entertainment also laid on. We had considered that a plus as having dined here last New Year's Eve the atmosphere had gone flat with no music and no real sense of occasion. We had left last year around 11.00 pm decamping to a friend's house to see the New Year in. I'm afraid to say that it was much the same this year with the music very loud (for one musician) and the choice of music for a festive family occasion being a bit odd. We left by 11.20 and saw midnight in at home by ourselves. That said, the meal was fabulous, we could find no fault at all (except maybe we had too much of it!!!) Butternut squash soup to start, following by Scallops for him and Game Terrine for me, then following a tastebud wakeup with a delicious sorbet, Pork Belly for him and Mushroom Wellington for me, both mains accompanied with gorgeous veg and jus. Dessert - well - we both chose Baileys cheesecake and this was layered with an Espresso jelly (to die for). And if this wasn't enough, coffee and petit fours followed. The whole meal was scrumptious, cooked to perfection and service was fantastic with the servers taking care to allow extra time between courses if needed, and checking periodically to make sure all was well.

Last time we came here we did not eat but all the draught beers had run out and they only sold bottled beers. Unpleasant cheap and bad tasting smoked salmon. Horrible so called wild mushrooms on a thick slab of bread served in a large vegetable bowl. Weird and not nice. Clear from lunchtime trade that people have sussed out this unwelcoming pub. Cold day no heating. How they have managed to garner any good reviews must be to do with different chefs and heat levels? For our experience the turkey with all the trimmings was full of foul tasting and gristly thick cut dark meat and white turkey, reheated veg and reheated old roast potatoes from the day before. A horrible tasting stuffing and nothing cooked properly. It really tasted bad and was presented higgeldy piggeldy. Yuk! (Really!) . Pudding nice. £19 for two courses.

Having used the pub as a local for over a decade and one of its greatest supporters through the bad times it was time to try the "gastropub" standard cuisine and spend the evening with friends. Well I'm just glad the company was better than the meal. First and last time eating here I'm afraid.

we went to Catsfield Christmas tree farm to get t our trees ,and had , booked for 2pm at Blacksmiths for lunch . We arrived a good half hour early slightly muddy with three excitable children. No problem at all , took us straight through to our table , staff were courteous very good with the kids. Drink orders taken and food ordered , even though we had to reign the kids in to concentrate. The food was lovely my suet pudding was scrumptious , the veg cooked to perfection, children food went down a treat . So glad we chose to go there on tree day . Will definitely go again

Went to the Blacksmiths for a change from my usual go to restaurants and I wish I’d had visited sooner! The decor is stunning, lovely staff and wonderful food! Having my friends meal made gluten free was no problem and we were very impressed with the huge selection of gin! We can not wait to go back! Thanks for a wonderful evening

Today was our 4th or 5th visit and we have never been disappointed. The well priced menu is varied and full of homemade favourites. The pie is to die for and they do a great roast. Family friendly service. Recommend everyone to try this place!

Having lived in the village for over 17 years there have been many changes to out lovely village pub - it’s now called a gastro pub!!! Well - our meal tonight was far from gastro - I’ve had better food at home !! On a Saturday night two weeks before Christmas the only people in there where locals so take them out and there would have been nobody in there but they say they don’t want locals drinking in there !!!!! Makes no sense to me whatsoever- main course of Christmas turkey dinner had no taste no seasoning bland vegetables and my starter was uninspiring - could go on but just feel very sad that a lovely village pub in the heart of Ninfield is now nowhere special to go to

We went there in July and had some really nice fish and chips. This time the fish was just about edible. What a shame, because it is very near to us. Consistency is very important and I'm not sure if we will come back again.

Everyone enjoyed their meals at this unpretentious pub in Ninfield. Son & Grandson had Venison burgers. Granddaughter and I, Fish & Chips. Wife had Place (a plate filling one) which she thoroughly enjoyed. Water provided for dog, but, sadly no biscuits. All in all a very successful visit.

Been 3 times now and the food is always fabulous. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Have a very fussy child and she has always loved the food here with no issues at all. Will become one of our regular places to eat now.

First visit to this pub since the change of ownership earlier this year and the food was very good. I had the burger and my wife had the pie of the day (chicken); both were excellent and the young lady who served was cheerful and friendly.

Had a lovely roast here, lots of meat and vegetarian options. Beautiful roast potatoes and veg not over cooked. Nice puddings, good portions. Lovely service too. Would’ve liked something apart from Harvey’s bitter to choose from, but still the beer was nice.

We had excellent fish and chips with mashy peas and a nice bottle of wine. The best fish for a long time. Friendly and fast service. We will come back again.

Popped in for a coffee whilst in the area for business. Charming little place. I simply wanted to mention this place as the flat white I had was a great, great cup of coffee. If only other coffee shops could provide similar quality.

Highly recommended. Two ladies offering a friendly welcome & delicious cream teas & sandwiches. And own car park too at ///tile.path.lend

The customer service was very good and there was a choice of indoor and outdoor seating. The cafe discourages people using laptops. Looked to be a good selection of cakes and drinks. The lunches we saw looked good quality but there are cheaper lunches available in Uckfield. We would us it again.

We were looking for a reasonably price place to have lunch and found The wishing well on Tripadvisor. We loved the informal garden and it was dog friendly. But the menu offered door step sandwiches which were fantastic served with nice fresh salad leaves. Then we finished with a slice of homemade cake which was fantastic. Definitively returning to this little gem of a tea room.
