Having been several times before we were very disappointed. Sunday roast was good bar the frozen Yorkshire puddings but the spinach and ricotta tortellini was dreadful. Shop bought pasta with the cauliflower cheese sauce from Sunday roast on. If I hadn’t been with family I’d have sent it back. Fish and chips were good. Fairly sure the tiramisu was shop bought and scooped out as a mess in our bowl with canned squirts cream, same for the trifle that was swimming in liquid. Staff were lovely but this was disappointing as always had great meals there before.

Spotless, a great welcome, cosy - and a good selection of drinks. Unique in that:- A. I’ve literally never seen a Barnsley Chop on a pub menu, B. (apparently) the only place the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip had a pub meal and C. surely the only place on the planet that played (one of my absolute favourite songs ever, by the way ) Imagine by ‘Belouis Some’ seven times back to back as the background music. Excellent service, proper veg and decent chips. PS the Barnsley Chop was great.

Cannot praise our Sunday lunch enough.Everything on our plate and in the tureen was perfectly cooked and so very tasty, from the fantastic Yorkshire puddings and succulent roast beef, which was already on our plate along with roast potatoes and creamed potatoes,to the ample supply of vegetables in the tureen. The chef most definitely knows how to cook a delicious meal.Would recommend to anybody! The staff are so friendly and welcoming.

This is the food review of our stay. We had an early tea time meal as we had to get to a gig in Scarborough. My wife had goats cheese with cranberry sauce and a side salad. I have gammon and egg, with a joint serving of chips. The goats cheese was lovely and 2 big chunks she couldn’t finish. The gammon was well cooked as was the egg. The chips were decent too. I had the rest of the goats cheese and it was very nice. All in all pretty good food and it did seem a popular place for food.

I stayed at this lovely country pub whilst attending a wedding in a nearby location. Prior to visiting I did a bit of homework and found this to be suitable for myself, husband and 3 family members. Having parked our car on-site behind the pub we were greeted by the lovely friendly landlord who confirmed our room and breakfast times etc… Upon reaching our room ( just a point rooms are accessed by stairs only in the main building) but out the back of the pub there is a small annexe of rooms which I would say are more accessible! Upon entering the room we had lovely fluffy towels, small selection of toiletries and plenty tea, coffee and hot chocolate. Room was clean and tidy with plenty of drawers and hanging space - albeit we were only there one night. As we were all attending a wedding I couldn’t comment on the pub meals but from what I saw upon arrival they looked good. Breakfast the following morning was excellent and lots of choice from Full English, Beans on Toast, Selection of Egg choices Cereal, Fruit and plenty drinks. All served by friendly attentive staff. This is certainly a place I would recommend to anyone passing through or wanting to stay on the edge of Scarborough.

I visited the Blacksmiths arms 2 days ago , been reading lots of revues , I really can’t understand some of the comments , some of which are totally untrue , however everyone is entitled to there opinion , on arrival I was greeted by a very pleasant gentleman (Tony) , he was wearing a face covering . Immediately as you walk through the car park entrance door there is a hand sanitiser station as well as a place to sign in or scan your app , there are other hand sanitiser stations throughout the building . The rooms are very comfortable , nice bedroom with en-suite , flat screen TV also included . Now onto the food , we had steak with peppercorn sauce , to be honest , that was the best steak I’ve ever eaten , as for the sauce , I hope he will reply to this post with the recipe ( absolutely gorgeous ) , my mouth is actually watering as I write this revue . I would definitely recommend this establishment to anyone looking for gorgeous food and a quiet enjoyable evening . I’ll be back before our summer ends

We where quickly shown to our table in the dining room by the friendly staff and quickly received our drinks (2 glasses of wine). Got to the menu and found it a little limited in range of dishes, but there were all the pub classics. A range of specials were available as well. We ordered and soon got our food which was good and wholesome. Overall while we had no complaints we were slightly disappointing with the experience. My husband and I stayed for two nights at the Blacksmith's Arms as part of a wedding party who were having their reception there. We had asked for a quiet room and avoiding steps as I had recently had a hip operation. They allocated us one of the converted stables which proved to be exactly what we wanted. We were greeted by the friendly landlord (I think his name was Tony) who told us if there was anything we needed to just ask. We had booked for an evening meal and we were very presently surprised by the choices. I had the steak and my husband had the horseshoe gammon. Both were cooked to perfection. The dessert choices were also excellent. We both went for the meringue with mince pie icecream, delicious! Breakfast on both days was more than enough to set a person up for the day, with choices from the full english to boiled eggs. There was also cereal, fruit juice, fresh fruit, yogurts, toast. The staff were fantastic and throughout the wedding reception couldn't do enough for their guests and of course the happy couple. I have never stayed in this Inn before but I wouldn't hesitate to stay again and would highly recommend it to anyone traveling in the area.

My husband booked this weekend away for me as a surprise. Him and his family have been coming to Scarborough for years. Arrived on Sunday and we had booked into the restaurant for our evening meal. I had garlic mushrooms and lemon chicken. As soon as we had finished our meal I knew that I had an upset stomach. We went back to our room and I went straight to bed. During the night I was woken as I had to be sick. When we went to check out we advised the gentleman (think his name was Tony) of our concerns about the food and he said he would speak to the chef and get back to us. My husband had paid for the meal the previous evening so we settled the room rate and left We have never heard from the Inn since Monday. We have not been offered an explanation or refund. What should have been a lovely weekend away was ruined due to an upset stomach and lack of sleep. We planned to take advantage of the nice weather on Monday and explore Scarborough but our plans were spoiled.

We second the observation of a previous reviewer, who states that they could not find the way in. Also, the car-park is weird, with the entrance marked as "no exit" - fair enough as the pub is right on a bend in the road - but absolutely no way/signs to figure out how to leave. In the end we went out the "in" and took a chance on the bend!

Food lovely, sea bream excellent, waitress attentive, all good except for a horrid man in the bar who told me in a very loud voice to move because he couldn’t see the TV (World Cup). No please, thank you or sorry. There was nowhere else for me to stand as the bar was packed. Suggest the pub marks it's doors better as we couldn’t decide where to enter and walked all round trying doors, we didn’t want the bar but it was the first door we found open! Man in bar totally lacking in the famous Yorkshire hospitality.

We called here for lunch. It is a lovely old pub with good parking. We opted for the 2 courses for £10.95. The Goat's Cheese with Chutney was delicious, as were the Garlic Mushrooms. The portions were generous and attractively presented. However I was disappointed with my fish gougons which, unfortunately were dry and over done and the chips were also too brown for my taste. I wish I had ordered the Yorkshire Ham, Egg and Chips which looked much more appetising. The service was prompt and pleasant and the restaurant has a cosy olde world ambience with lots of quirky touches. Not sure about the plaques with what appeared to be preserved dogs' paws though.

We had an overnight stay at the Blacksmiths on Thursday. The breakfast was very good with plenty of staff on hand. The evening meal was OK but only one member of staff on and a full restaurant, and the wait between courses was a bit long. The room was comfortable with most mod cons to hand. But if you are a poor sleeper, as I am, don't have room 6 as the traffic noise at the front is awful. Plus the shower in the room was terrible, we couldn't adjust the temperature and the hot water scalded my finger in trying to balance it.

Wow what a gem of a place this is. This place is by far best place to eat in Scarborough. We came across this beauty of a place whilst going for a little drive outside of Scarborough as we are new to the area. So we took a chance to see if any tables were available for Sunday lunch. Luck had they had availability. We sat near the open fire and it was so cosy. Once we were seated we then placed our drink order at the bar and the staff were extremely friendly. I can be a fussy eater at times so i had fingers crossed all would be good here. I opted for the roast beef and hubby opted for a veggie option for a change. Blimey where do i start...the food was beautiful. The meat just melted in your mouth, the gravy was to die for and the home made yorkshire puds were fantastic. The veg selection they brought out too was cooked to perfection. I totally wiped my plate clean. If nobody had of been watching i would have licked my plate lol . The waitress then brought over the dessert board...oh god where do i start? wished i could have had a spoon of each dish. I chose the Panna cotta and hubby did too. Well it was the best one we have ever tasted. So after a beautiful Sunday lunch we were both happy and content and just could not move as we was totally stuffed.

If had paid for one of the other more reasonable priced rooms though we would have been more than happy. It is a nice pub hotel.

We stayed for 2 nights here and the place was first class. The room was large and well decorated but what made it outstanding was the evening meals and the friendliness of the staff. The meals were good quality pub food which would be hard to beat anywhere. All set in a cozy atmosphere. We will defintly go again when we are visiting the area.

We stumbled upon this lovely old pub and were certainly glad we did as the food on offer was of a higher standard then the usual 'pub grub'. The family run business offered a diverse menu and after we had all eaten starters we were simply unable to try the attractive desert menu! Great service also and my in-laws, who live locally, have pencilled in a return

Okay - so we're a bit biased because we live only a short walk away from this lovely pub - all the more reason to review it however, because it's often the case that you only bother to write about the trips further afield rather than the treasure that's on your own doorstep. And this place deserves a good review because it's everything a good British pub should be: cosy with welcoming hosts and staff; hearty delicious food and a really friendly atmosphere among the diners which often leads to fun conversations between tables! When we first moved in to the village this place proved to be a lifesaver - we couldn't get through the packing cases into our new kitchen for three nights, so we trotted down the lane and partook of the local hospitality. I'm so pleased we did because it was a great opportunity to introduce ourselves and get to know our hosts and some of the locals. We've been half a dozen or so times since and brought friends with us on occasions - we've never had a 'duff' dish or anything other than a very pleasant, relaxed dining experience. Our favourite dish is the steak pie, served (as are all the dishes) with very nicely cooked vegetables and we also love the Whitby scampi. And the starters of smoked salmon. Oh and all the puddings too!!! We definitely did put on a few pounds that first week in the village :)Of course we recommend The Blacksmith's Arms to anyone who's looking for a great pub experience and if you're staying in the area do bear in mind they've got rooms too - so it's an ideal base from which to explore all that the East Coast has to offer.

We ate with friends who were staying at the pub. Managed to get a little table in the corner on a very busy Saturday night. I had scampi and chips which was ok, but the chips were not hand cut, which is a bit of a 'thing' with me. Enjoyed the evening though.

recently visited with my wife and two children ,food nice but sadly very poor veg and chips portions.we were offered more veg and also asked for more chips as we were only given a very small dish of each between four of us(4 slices of courgette 2 small new potatoes 1 small broccoli floret and a few slices of carrot).we got some more veg but the request for chips was ignored! we ordered two desserts from a blackboard received small portion of trifle and very small portion of coconut tart horrified to see we were charged £10.40 for them! poor value for money sadly not as good as when we visited previous years.

Wonderful venue and great service. The food was beautiful, the best meal I have eaten in a long time. Staff were friendly and helpful. Not the cheapest but the quality is worth it.

Lovely quality food, in a very nice location but the fly problem while eating has really put us off eating here now sadly. Having to waft them out the way while trying to eat was sadly very off putting.

Again me n my partner are trying new places to eat. We've always passed this Inn but never thought of going for lunch. We were mistaken. The place is beautiful with a real rustic atmosphere. We decided to sit near the fire (which wasn't on, but who would have it on its a hot day :D )The choices of meals where limited but they did offer a good choice of specials and desserts.I myself had the homemade burger which was massive (but it didn't come with chips) but I don't think you needed them as the burger was double the size and massive!!!!My partner had the special Guinness and steak pie wit assorted veg and chips. He seemed to enjoy it.We did have starters as well and they where beautiful ( grilled goats cheese and a soup)We didn't stop for the desserts as we where too full (and they where around £5.00)We both had 2 pints of coke ar 3.10 each which I thought was a bit steep but obviously it's more of a ale and beer pub!Overall I would visit again as the staff where really nice and the place was awesome

Went here for a family meal mid week. Welcoming staff and table ready for us. Personally I found the menu outdated and quite old fashioned. Unfortunately when we ordered our food we were told they had run out of quite a few selections. We made alternate choices, only then for the waitress to come back and tell us that our second choices were also out of stock. Food came within a reasonable amount of time and chips were really good. We had a vegan in our party who was very well catered for which was appreciated. Fair pub grub, but menu needs an over haul.

Returning from watching a cricket match decided to stop here for an evening meal. Walked through the bar and into a lounge bar which was very busy. Manager was helpful and suggested we go into the restaurant, meal prices here were the same as the bar. Politely offered drinks which were taken into the restaurant. The main courses of fish were well cooked as was the steak crust pie. Staff were polite and attentive. Close enough to Scarborough to make this establishment a viable place to stay if you want little more class as part of your stay.

My wife and I both had meals from the specials board that night (great and varied choice) and neither of us were disappointed by our steaks. I have found that the food at the Blacksmiths Arms, be it in the bar or restaurant, has always to a high standard and good value for money. That together with attentive service and pleasant ambiance means that I would not hesitate to recommend this Pub for a visit (because of the popularity, if you are a party of 2+, I would recommend booking beforehand)

We booked a table for the night before our son’s wedding at nearby Raven Hall. We took a party of seven. We were very pleased with the welcome, the food, the service and the friendly way we in which we were treated. The grilled goat's cheese was delicious and well presented. Mains of sea bass and steak pie were much enjoyed. The crab salad was excellent. Akau Sauvignon Blanc at £17.95 and Solar Viejo Rioja at £18.50 were good value. In preparation of this special meal we visited a number of pubs in the area and found that the Blacksmith’s Arms offered the most varied menu, friendly service and most importantly good food! Cost was reasonable, including the two bottles of wine, some mineral water and two puddings the total without service was under £30 per head. Enjoy! (And at Black Sheep at £3.10 a pint it’s worth going early and staying late!)

We came here last night for a meal and was one of the best home cooked meals I ever had. The staff were so lovely and we even got to play some darts before our food came!

What a find! This has been the loveliest meal we have had this year. The food is beautiful, my husband had haddock and loved it. I had rib of beef and it was just delightful some of the best food I have had. The landlord was super lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The staff were lovely and attentive but not over bearing. The menu gives lots of choice and there is a brilliant gin menu. They are dog friendly too so we all had a wonderful time- thank you. We have booked up for Sunday lunch when we are next on holiday over here. I couldn’t recommend this place enough
