My family and I came here to celebrate our son’s birthday and it was spectacular! The service was amazing and the food was great 👍 overall I would rate it 5 stars 🌟 and am definitely coming back here again!

Had a lovely day over at the Black Swan. Reunion with 5 lady friends. On arrival Nathain & team really looked after us. We really made him work hard as we needed lots of help recommendations, toilets etc. the food was very tasty & appetising, pleasing to the eye. Sat us in a lovely position in the garden as had 2 little puppies with us. Will certainly be meeting here in future each month looking forward to sitting inside in the Autumn. Thank you Nathain, Diana & Oghan a few of the team that helped us out. We were not in a hurry it was very busy but never felt rushed at all.

First off, we have been here before for a Sunday roast and it’s incredible!!! Beautiful food and service from all staff. Last night we had our wedding reception at the Black Swan after getting married abroad. Barbara was AMAZING! Of course the only day forecasted to rain was yesterday, but she said it’s fine we can accommodate, our reception started inside with welcome drinks then moved outside to the garden area. It was amazing, food was beautiful everyone complimented the pub, food, staff, the DJ absolutely everything! Could not fault one thing - amazing venue for lunch in the sunshine in the summer, or a cosy dinner in the winter or to host events!

We arrived on the spur of the moment today for lunch as it was sunny and we fancied sitting outside. We didn't have a reservation but were warmly welcomed by Sophie who showed us to a great table which had comfortable seating and a view over the garden. We ordered a main course, drinks and dessert and were very impressed not just with the food but with the ability of Sophie and Jade to have remembered all the options on the menus. To us the secret of a good experience is not just the food but the ambience. All the staff we met were unfailingly helpful and all were smiling - this makes a huge difference! Thank you Barbara, Rachel, Sophie and Jade, plus all the unseen staff behind the scenes. We will certainly be back.

After hearing about this place, finally got to visit. Had a really lovely experience, family roast dinner was really good & the staff are so nice, friendly, & professional. Guy called Nath! Was really great on our arrival, he looked after us with Jude, nath made sure he came to check on us a few times even when we were in the garden. Really happy team that worked well under pressure. . Very knowledgable about drinks too.I have already booked again for next week to bring friends.

Such a great pub in a fantastic location. We have visited couple of weeks ago and both food and service were first class. Barbara and team were amazing and I have experienced some great true hospitality at Balck Swan. Highly recommended. We will be back soon.

Always a wonderful experience! Barbie and her team are super friendly, helpful & knowledgeable. The venue is incredible, has amazing outside areas and an elegant interior. Food is always excellent, I usually have the burger except on Sundays when it has to be the roast beef!

Second visit & was as perfect as the first visit. Beautiful ambience & atmosphere strike you from the minute you pull into the car park. Super friendly, helpful staff at every level, service fab & food was amazing. Encouraged to try things out of my usual comfort zone & was not disappointed, thanks for the encouragement! We were greeted by Barbara, who in a professional welcoming manner dealt with us and took us through to our table. What and absolutely stunning venue, Charles and Chloe took over the baton and provided us with attentive warm service throughout our experience. The venue is two hours from our home, however I would visit again without hesitation. The food we had, delicious, a feast for the eyes and stomach... The Black Swan is the kind of place you see other meals and you wished you had ordered that, however you have your own and it's simply great..you have to try the Black Swan.. you really deserve to

We hadn’t seen my husbands parents for a long time as they live in the Lake District. So we wanted to spoil them over the weekend they were with us and chose the black swan to have lunch on Sunday because we’ve had such a great time here in the past. What a disappointment. It started well and the owner moved our indoor table booking to outside when my in laws asked if we could which we appreciated. We sat down at 1.40 and ordered 3 appetisers and main course each and drinks The appetisers came in a normal time frame ( around 2pm) and were fine. Then what followed was an incredibly long wait. Two tables of four came in after us and had finished their main meals and left before we even got ours. Our waitress did say that our food wouldn’t be long and was coming soon. For a Sunday, it was no where near as busy as I’ve seen it in the past with plenty of empty tables. I’ve been there when every table is full and had much better service. I got up to query where our food was at 2.55 as my in- laws are elderly and were getting fed up of waiting like we were. What was really condescending and rude was the owner who proceeded to tell me that the reason for the delay was because ‘they cook it from scratch’ and proceeded to very forcefully dismiss me and tell me that our food was coming out in 3 minutes. Unlike two of her junior staff who were obviously embarrassed at the delay and both apologised to us. But no apology firm the owner. Ou meals didn’t come in three minutes. We finally got them at 3.10 three of which were over cooked. my mother in law mentioned to the waitress that we should get a discount off our bill. The waitress said we would need to talk to the manager. My Seabass looked like it had been deep fried from frozen and the chorizo, potatoes, spinach and fish were swimming in grease. I left most of it. The cheese burger was dry and chips over cooked and my father in laws fish and chips were over done. Our time with my in laws was ruined and it was such a disappointment after we’d talked the place up . Even when we were leaving my mother in law was conversing with the owner in french and expressing her disappointment and she also got fed the line that ‘everything gets cooked from scratch’ and that’s why everything was late for us. But not others it would seem. Has the owner been genuinely apologetic like her staff, had she tried to make us feel better by offering a discount or some drinks or dessert, or even bothered to come up to us and ask us how our meals were ( which no one did) it would have helped us feel better about the experience. My father in law wouldn’t let us pay the £145 bill I think because he saw how bad we felt about it. But he refused to pay the service charge and made it clear it wasn’t personal to our waitress Holly who was friendly enough. We are not unreasonable people and understand that if your ticket gets stuck behind a table of 8 these things sometimes happen. What isn’t acceptable is doing nothing about it and assuming your customers will be naive or stupid enough to believe it’s because ‘everything is cooked from scratch’. Very disappointing. Not just the delay but the quality of food when it did finally arrive, we didn’t see the point in even raising that with the owners attitude. We will not be visiting again nor will we bring friends and family like we’ve always done in the past.

We were are table if 7, but sat at a table for six, with a squashed chair added at one end, which was odd when there was an unoccupied table for the length of our visit that was larger? Our food and drink order was taken after a fairly long wait, but we were in no hurry so wasn’t a big problem. The drinks came fairly promptly, the food did take some time and, unfortunately for one member of our party, their meal had been forgotten to be ordered by the waitress with the kitchen, the waitress didn’t even notice we had to point it out, so just as everyone else was finishing their meal, there’s arrived, with no apology. No check back was given during our meal to see if everything was satisfactory, which it wasn’t. We had a few steak meals and none of the meat had been cooked as requested. One was almost raw and so tough, the others over cooked a leathery. One meal had an extra sauce requested (anchovy hollandaise), which was also forgotten, when it came, it was wrong, a Béarnaise sauce with 3 anchovies draped over the top was delivered, very odd and not pleasant. We thought we’d have better luck with desserts, but this was just as disappointing … we ordered two peach and almond Melba ice creams, one with almonds and one without and two brownies. The brownies were stale and dry, not enjoyable. The Melba’s were delivered and the waiter clearly said “this one has nuts, this one is without”, which was a lie as neither had nuts. I did get up and query at this point as nothing we’d had, had been right. I was then informed by the waiter (that had bought the puddings) that the kitchen had run out of almonds, so neither had nuts. Why say one did then? And why was I not told this at the point of ordering as I wouldn’t have had that dessert if I’d known. It was a birthday meal for my daughter and no one wanted to spoil the occasion by complaining and as the staff didn’t do check backs and were not very visible, the opportunity to raise the issues that we experienced wasn't forthcoming. A service charge is automatically added to your bill and for the more premium prices for food and drink, it was a huge disappointment. Paying over £5 for one glass of orange and lemonade mix was a little steep. Would not recommend or return.

An absolutely gorgeous pub with delicious food. We sat in the garden and had tasty Bloody Marys alongside absolutely scrumptious food. We were served by Chloe and Charles and they were both so friendly and extremely welcoming! Would definitely recommend this for a Sunday lunch - great veggie options too.

Unfortunately we booked for a quiet Sunday lunch and there’s was very loud music playing. The live band was just the other side of the hedge from us and we couldn’t hear each other’s conversation. The band was very good but we couldn’t wait to get out of there

Amazing gastro pub. Lots of parking, beautiful outside dinning area and the inside is modern with a comfortable atmosphere, including a fire place. Staff are friendly and helpful. Food is incredible! Have visited on a number of occasions and the food never disappoints. They are very helpful with advising on dietary requirements. Would highly recommend

Had a lovely afternoon drink here in their beautiful garden today. We didn't eat but the food looked amazing, especially the chicken Kiev! Really good 0% alcohol beer too - the Estrella Galicia! 🍻

We visited this establishment a couple of years ago and thought it was excellent in all respects, so couldn't wait to return despite it being some distance to travel. We finally returned for a birthday treat on Sunday 21 July, and what a disappointment! The service was terrible. We waited an hour and a half for food, growing very bored. When it arrived (after complaining twice) it was mediocre at best - although to be fair the roast meats were very good quality and plentiful, but everything else was pretty ordinary. It spoilt our excellent memory of our previous visit and left us disillusioned. We won't be returning.

Went for a quick lunch (with my dog). I/we had the best club sandwich I've had in years: if a pub can get the small modest things like this perfect it's a very positive sign for everything else on the menu.

Known as the mucky duck. We arrived on Sunday. Not knowing if we would be able to eat. Upon arrival, the weather decided to have a fit. Greeted by this lady (with an accent) she was so friendly. We decided to sit outside under the porch next to an outside heater which was perfect. Ordered, yep you guessed it a Beef / Chicken roast. Perfect. We sat outside, under the heater watching the monsoon. Delivery of food was outstanding. Also a big thanks to a young guy with blonde hair who poured us our water. He was so professional, humble in his approach, and what a nice guy. All in all, a good day.

Such a lovely restaurant, in a super location , but do not outside sit next to bush in summer , there was a fly issue, no fault of premises. The gfood was lovely and service good , but they forgot to bring pudding menue, Probably did me a favour saved me a few lb.

Great setting and lovely outdoor space in a beautiful pocket. Family friendly and relaxed serviced with a high quality menu. The liver parfait profiteroles were excellent, as was the Korean inspired Mushroom Muffin!

A mixed review. We are regulars at the Black Swan - lovely pub, good food, generally good service. Sunday hours seem to be very arbitrary and we've been told to call to check when the kitchen was closing. Great suggestion except the phone is never answered despite many attempts on multiple occasions. Last night we booked a table on their website (with a credit card guarantee) only to receive a phone call when we were 5 minutes away saying they were closing the kitchen and the reservation would not be honoured. The guy didn't seem that apologetic even though we were already nearly at the restaurant. It would be great to either publish accurate times or update your own website booking availability so you don't waste guests' time. Edited/updated review - it is interesting that the owner only responds to positive feedback and doesn't address reviews from customers who have had a poor experience....

We had an absolutely lovely experience here. Our server, June, was fantastic and went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. His manner was brilliant and definitely made our visit so memorable, a true asset to the company. The food was delicious and the waiting times were not particularly long even though it was quite busy.

We ate a lunch here: steak sandwich with onion rings on it was cooked perfectly, chicken Kyiv with beans and chips very tasty. Great coffee. Server was extremely helpful, making sure we were attended to and satisfied, also making sure we had no allergies before we ordered. Rest rooms were well maintained.

Jude has been proactive and incredibly respectful all evening. Amazing food!

Booked a large table for a birthday gathering and as always, did not disappoint. The Sunday roast is always delicious (please bring back the sausage stuffing balls and quilted sausage sides!) there was also a live band playing in the BBQ area which was fantastic. We love coming here as our children love the outdoor space and it’s safe enough for them to move around and enjoy whilst we can keep an eye on them. Popular spot so make sure to book a table on weekends and get there early as you may spend a while trying to find a parking space

The weirdest horseradish sauce I have ever had! It was more like a small pot of whipped cream that tasted nothing like horseradish. When querying if they had served it incorrectly, the staff advised it was their home made version and so many other customers had questioned and disliked it too! Bizarre that they are not listening to their customers and continue to serve it...

Chose this pub to have a meal and stopover for one night in our motorhome on the way to Eurotunnel. Lovely and pretty outside seating area and large inside. Had a nice meal (fish and chips) and friendly staff. The parking was spacious and perfect for us on level gravel area next to (even more) outside seating on grass.

Fantastic Sunday roast mid afternoon. We were allocated a super snug booth and received amazing service from Emily. Will 100% return for terrific grub, table-care and atmosphere.

My lunch with a friend was really enjoyable with great food and service.

Unfortunately the lunch we had here today was an absolute let down 😣 You can’t change £18.50 for a basic salad, a few leaves of chicory some goats cheese and a few squares of pickled beetroot… the worse part is we paid an extra £6 on top of that for steak to be added but four dry bits chucked on top that tasted days old was just not ok. So to pay £24.50 per salad was an utter rip off when you’re expecting something exciting and delicious for that price. What a shame.

We took my daughter to the Black Swan 15 years ago for a christening party, and it is still absolutely fantastic! I don't know how they do it!? Food was brilliant, staff were friendly, atmosphere is lovely! Can't wait for the weather to catch up so we can go and sit in the garden. £18 for a burger (2024). Seems that's the going rate these days for a good burger and didn't disappoint - was mouth wateringly delicious!

Nice food though the peach Melba knickerbockerglory was disappointing. Emilly however who served us was absolutely lovely and I would thoroughly recommend her.

Booked the black swan for my son’s 30th birthday and the food and service was second to none. A big thank you to Asta and her wonderful team for a memorable day, as always! This is our regular pub and we wouldn’t go anywhere else - the roast is simply the best!

Great looking pub and excellent service from our server Chloe. The food was surprisingly middling for such a nice looking location and vibe, the core ingredients of my chicken roast were bang on but the bread sauce was some weird tasting thin thing that didn't scratch my itch. Treating myself to a profiterole pudding they were pretty small and hard, so another net meh.

Stunning pub with excellent food. They serve an amazing derivative of Estrella here which comes highly recommended. Service started great but dwindled rapidly after lunch. But the staff were lovely if a little understaffed/overworked.

We’ve been regulars for a while now. Pleased by the new spring menu, and the service is generally good. The croque monsieur was delicious (you’ve got to add the fried egg!) and the mushroom crumpet is amazing. We also tried the gnocchi, club sandwhich and chicken profiterole. All nicely washed down with a very good bottle of Picpoul de Pinet. Service is generally good and helpful but some children’s cutlery or colouring would be appreciated.

We’ve been dining at the pub for many years and recently had a joint birthday party for my son and husband. What a great day! We had a semi private room inside with huge adjacent outdoor area for our use - fantastic space for our kids to run around and adults to mingle. Food was excellent, from the recently launched menu which offered plenty of choices. But most importantly, staff were fantastic. Asta and the team went out of their way to make our day extra special, from helping to decorate the room to always being there to top up drinks and take orders! Everything ran so smoothly, effortlessly and stress free! Couldn’t praise them enough, excellent altogether! Thank you

Never eaten here before so had no expectations when we turned up for Sunday lunch today. The pub was quite full as it was Easter Sunday. The serving staff were helpful and attentive. The food was plentiful and tasty and the tables were not too closely packed together which I hate in any restaurant. The ambience was good and the pub had a nice ‘country pub’ feel to it. I’m sure it would be delightful to dine al fresco in the garden when the weather is a bit warmer. Will be sure to return again.

Incredible. 5 stars simply isn’t enough!! Myself and my partner have been coming here since the summer, and it’s become our weekly go to. The food is in a league of its own, and the friendly atmosphere and wonderful staff add a special touch. I highly recommend a trip to the Black Swan!

Excellent visit to the Black Swan, very warm greeting on entry. Excellent and knowledgeable staff , very enjoyable overall experience.

Sat at a dirty table, had to ask to see the menus, took another 20mins to take a drink order, ordered a child’s meal to come out with the starters but that diddnt arrive, one of the starters was a soup that came out cold, took 1.5hours for the main meal to arrive again served barely warm, when bill finally arrived they added on extra deserts I’m glad we checked and then had the audacity to start gossiping about our table when we said to take off the service charge (£34) as we had to ask for menus, food, and even just getting attention for drinks. In there a total of 3+ hours for a slightly above average overpriced meal, I have had better service at greasy spoons.
