We thoroughly enjoyed the tapas here, it was served promptly and was very tasty and the amount just right. If you have a little space left, I do recommend the chocolate mousse. Our waiter (I unfortunately forget his name) was polite, knowledgeable and pleasant. Be prepared to pay 12.5% service charge.

We’ve been here many times and it’s a fabulous location, great atmosphere and food is good. What really lets it down is the service. We were served by a waiter today who had a very poor attitude, it was if he was having to go out of his way to serve us and he was frankly quite rude. And that’s not the first time we’ve had that issue there. It’s a real shame as the place could be really quite special if they improved the service.

We had our micro wedding at The Swan Inn in their private room and our experience was absolutely exceptional. Hugh really helped us plan our vision for the reception, giving us the time to see the room beforehand so we could set how we wanted everything to look and the service we received on the day was 5 star, everything was taken care of. The team really went above and beyond to make our day so special and that's before we even mention the food which was INCREDIBLE! All our guests kept telling us how excellent it was, loudly and repeatedly!!! Thank you to Hugh and the Swan Inn for creating such a excellent day for us, we really appreciate it!!!

Hugh recommended a delicious bottle of 5 Finques Reserva as we wanted an oaky, full bodied wine, it was delicious! We started with aceitunas, croquetas de gambas y padron peppers followed by patatas bravas, pluma iberica (cooked perfectly by Dan) y gambas al ajillo…..todo buenisimoooo! Wonderful location, friendly professional staff and fantastic food and wine! The croquetas were better than any I’ve had in Spain 🇪🇸 felicitaciones a los chefs! We will be back! Went for a family lunch with friends and their son, really enjoyed the experience, our waiter was great, knowledgeable and so good with our friend's son. Food wise, it felt like we ate pretty much everything on the menu...... The prawns were the stand out for me, (order bread to dip in the oil from the prawns as that is amazing) perhaps something they could look to offer with it as a dish. The fish and chips (I get not Spanish) but when eating with children what a win and it was huge and I mean huge.... For £18 what a bargain. This is a little way from us but would definitely return and make a day of it.

Very disappointed. We are from Spain and live in London, and we were curious about this restaurant because what we read in the news. We ordered several supposed Spanish dishes. The croquetas were too oily, the bread with tomato was frozen cold, the calsots where not enough cooked and the chuleton was more a bit of carpaccio! and with mash potato?? every Spaniard knows what a CHULETON is, big, juicy, thick, a wonderful piece of meat, etc... and THAT was NOT, only the price was of a Chuleton...:-( You can fool the "locals" but not the Spaniards.

Lovely atmosphere, great staff and service, amazing tapas as starters, but the roast lamb belly was a disappointment. The cut was what I recognise as breast of lamb, the cheapest cut of the meat, but at £21 hardly a cheap dinner. Gravy was nice, veg nice. Small serving of roast potatoes (best thing on the plate) and an average Yorkshire pud. Overall, would go back for the tapas, but not the roast.

We visited for a family lunch and were very disappointed with the service and food we received, given the extortionate prices. My husband ordered fish and chips and when it arrived I had to ask if it was my son’s portion from the children’s menu - there were about 10 chips and tiny piece of fish. My roast dinner was also very small, with 2 over cooked roast potatoes and about half a carrot. The starter (baked potato soup) was tasteless and very under seasoned. The staff were friendly and helpful but unfortunately service was slow, about an hour between starter and main, then 3 desserts forgotten! The Swan Inn looks like an idyllic Christmas pub, but it didn’t deliver and emphasis was on style, not substance.

We had a relaxing and wonderful Sunday lunch. Drinks in the bar first and we were very impressed with the friendly and engaging bar staff. I enjoyed a few glasses of the house champagne which were delicious. Then onto lunch, what a setting to enjoy it in - such elegant surroundings. My husband started with scotch eggs and declared afterwards, that it was the best one he had ever tasted. Roast beef was next, perfectly cooked with roast potatoes and a lovely puff of Yorkshire pudding with tasty seasonal vegetables. At this stage a break was called for and then onto sticky toffee pudding, yoghurt panna cotta, with Tonka bean (wonderful ) and finished off with a Cafe Royale coffee. Absolutely fabulous! Excellent and friendly service. Such a lovely atmosphere here. Families with young children and dogs welcome in the bar and garden. I strongly recommend this lovely pub/restaurant

Recently refurbished so nice and new. Lots of families but, thankfully, all the children were well behaved. Good service and nice roast with amazing gravy. Only 2 roast potatoes, which were over done. Yorkshire pudding was huge. Red onion was part of the veg. Not overly substantial so quite pricey considering. Do not order the tiramisu. I only ever normally order this at a proper Italian restaurant but thought I would give it a try. It was the worst tiramisu that I have ever eaten. The beef comes more rare than medium, so this is worth noting.

A group of friends had dinner last night, the restaurant was busy but not so bad the staff were rushed off their feet. We had to leave the table on more than on occasion to ask for service. The first time we asked it seemed we were disturbing the young girl from her task of unloading the dishwasher and she reluctantly came to serve us. The food took a long time to come but when it did it was really good. We had to ask for more wine and for the glasses to be cleared. I wont be going back there for a long time, hopefully which time they will have employed some enthusiastic and attentive staff.

The meal was very good although on the expensive side. With awareness of special dietary needs nowadays we would have expected the menu to better spell out gluten content rather than be told afterwards that the waiters are trained to explain content should they be asked. The cost was then pushed up automatically by a further 12.5% for "a discretionary service charge" when we would have preferred to make our own choice.

Decided to try a new place, and on arrival, gave a good impression. Ordered drinks and found a nice table at front , over looking Claygate green. Were having a look at Menus, and a guy came out informing us, we couldn't sit there if wanted to have dinner! Apparently the tables are for people having drinks and nibbles! Was absolutely shocked. The option was to move inside, but it was too hot, or round the back, into a concrete area covered with some form of cover, which was depressing with no view, or leave...We decided to leave and go elsewhere. Bar service was very slow when paying the bill.. and then found some where else to have my birthday meal. There were only from memory 5/6 menu main choices ranging from abt £12 up to abt £19 which appears high for a " pub" which was actually quite empty. No surprising why..... Ordered haddock with salad instead of chips, arrived with a mere garnish of salad (Wilted and past its best), when I asked the server for a little more salad she handled the request with no hassle and I was swiftly given more, but I understand why the chef was reluctant to give me it as he was clearly embarrassed by the wilted, rotten leaves. It never should have been served. My companions batter on her fish was also under-cooked.

We went, on a Saturday evening, with friends who had heard good reports about the "The Swan Inn". The layout of this establishment is such that the bar area is adjacent to an eating area that is long and narrow, with little ambience. There was unacceptably loud noise throughout our time there with no sound absorption and so we had a real problem in holding a conversation. This was not helped also by a group of inebriated and crudely verbal customers clustered round the bar, with no intervention from the management in consideration of others who were also spending money. The service was OK but the food portions were small and certainly did not merit the prices being charged by this self styled "gastro pub". Our overall experience was truly average and we will not be returning any time soon!

This was an Easter Sunday late day roast dinner. We had been told it was good. We regularly visit localities looking for the perfect Sunday roast. This almost made the grade. Take note "The Swan". Your food was delicious, gravy although a little sparse, delicious, it made the meal. Roast potatoes, fab, a rarity. Vegetables, fab. Now here comes the BUT, the meat was delicious but it was very, very thinly sliced which in itself is not an issue when it is delicious and tender, but come on 2 slices, fine for a small eater but not enough. Hence only 4 stars. A little more generosity with the meat would have made this a 5 star, go to, Sunday restaurant. Don't be so mean, it's just not enough, even one more slice would have done it everything else was superb and the service was good too.

Fabulous food, possibly the lightest pastry I have ever had. Missing half a star for delay before the main course (free coffee gesture appreciated, but only 2 of us had coffee!). The other half star is for disabilty "unawareness" - start by marking one or even better two blue badge parking spaces. Clearly the front door steps are a big obstacle, but a "wheelchair" sign could direct users to the side door which is doable. Sad that people spend so much money on doing a place up, and overlook people with disabilities. This is not just a social matter, it's bad for business!

Fantastic. Stayed on business booking the swan inn accomodation. Close to the station (10 minute walk) which itself has trains every 30 mins into waterloo. Journey in is 27 / 34 mins. Wasn't expecting much other than the convenience of the location and cost, £85 a night with continental breakfast included. Phoned ahead to reserve a table having downloaded the menu. It looked a little reserved and not typical pub food!!. Parked up went in and from then on were not disappointed with anything. Great welcome friendly competent staff. Limited but superb menu. A foody paradise without a doubt. Homemade, nice touches, fresh, well presented and original. Free water as well which may sound off but you'd know what I mean of you go there. Accomodation was excellent. Roomy, comfortable, well appointed and some really nice touches. Breakfast the next day was nice. Everything about this place reflects effort and quality. My destination of choice now for accomodation and London stopovers. Adding it to my foodie destinations as they really know what they are about.

Enjoyed this local pub with friends. The food was of good quality, but the server seemed a bit stretched - serving both the restaurant and pub.

I was recently introduced to this pub restaurant by my family and I can only say what a real pleasure it was to dine there - the food was first class and the beef bourguignon was without doubt the best I have ever tasted. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the service excellent and we were made to feel very welcome. All of the food we ate was cooked beautifully and was so delicious and perfectly presented. It is very obvious that the chef(s) know their trade - A thank you to all the staff and a definite restaurant to return to in the near future.

I had not planned to dine from the set menu however the choices swayed me. £17 for 3 courses is outstanding value.

This pub was changed into a gastro pup perhaps 18 months ago. Our first visit was for Sunday lunch just after it opened and this was our second visit, this time for supper.

My partner and I came here on a sunny day and the outside space was lovely, great atmosphere and enough seating. The staff couldn't do enough for you but it was the food and menu that let it down. Being a pescetarian there wasn't much choice apart from one veggie dish. It was absolutely delicious but very small portion and really overpriced for what it was.

Given that the Swan has become home from home, or the Branch Office, I cant believe that I haven't posted a review yet. Joe and David go the extra mile to make you feel welcome here-always a handshake on arrival and a biscuit for the dog. A great place for a drink at any time of year. In the kitchen Andy Barber is straining at the leash to produce food that is a little different. Sadly the good folk of Claygate haven't fully embraced this yet although most evenings the restaurant is now pretty full. The Swan is still a work in progress but it's damn good and will only get better. I have seen the comment about badly trained staff-rubbish. they are all charming.

I was taken here and it all looked very nice. Shame the service was terrible. I think this is a result of poorly trained staff. The food isn't bad , but very small portions. It could have potential, train the staff. Might have to try this again. They need a professional to take charge.

Had a lovely family evening meal. Food was good. It was easy to get a table on at late notice. On this occasion. Sometimes need to book a few days in advance. Desserts slightly limited. Portions were a good size though chips were really salty.
