A fabulous traditional Sunday roast with all the trimmings at this lovely pub is not to be missed. There is a choice of different meats such as beef lamb gammon pork and turkey and you can have as much as you can eat. You need to need a little room for dessert which is included in the price. The staff are lovely and friendly and there is a great choice of good wine and beers. They are really focused on looking after your safety in terms of the restrictions currently in place and ensure all the necessary self distancing is in place. There are plenty of hand sanitisers and you do feel safe whilst at this lovely pub. I am looking forward to lunch there again very soon. I would definitely recommend for you to try.

Delicious take-away carvery, well packaged, hot, plentiful ! The desserts are very tasty and home-made but portions are small. I recommend trying this pub.

This pub was within short walking distance from our hotel and encouraged by the good reviews we booked a table. Although we eat out regularly, I rarely write reviews unless I'm very disappointed or extremely happy with the quality of food and service. As a keen cook, it seems difficult to get food out that is as good as the meals that I can produce at home, even if you pay a lot of money for the pleasure. In my view, the Black Horse deserves full marks for both quality and service. The menu choices range from dishes that are wholesome comfort foods, to dishes that are more unusual. If you dislike formula food and nouveau cuisine or tiny portions, this is the place to be!Although not a very salubrious looking gastro-pub; in fact it has a small frontage and is tucked between a row of shops but once inside, it seems to go on forever. Every precaution to prevent cross transmission of Covid-19 was taken. The staff were very welcoming and efficient. We were served generous portions of wonderful food and were so encouraged by the quality and variety of choices of starters and main courses, although stuffed, we managed to find a space for delicious desserts. I noticed that every meal that was produced for other customers looked as good as ours. It's a shame we don't live locally as this was truly the best pub meal we have had in a very long time. The prices in our view reflect the quality of food but are not exorbitant. Wine for the table was reasonably priced.

Lovely atmosphere, great beers on tap and stunning food. We had a beef wellington and a surf and turf. Exceeded expectations. Staff were really welcoming and made a big fuss of our dog. Highly recommend.

We booked the black horse after reading the great reviews, we pulled up outside and were a little worried that we had made a bad choice! We couldn’t have been more wrong. The pub opened up into a spacious restaurant.The food was amazing and plentiful we were a family of 6 and we were all happy with our choices. I can recommend the stuffed peppers, one of the best vegetarian meals I’ve ever had! We visited on Monday and were given the £10 eat out to help out discount but even with out it the meal was really cheap for the quality and quantity of the food.The staff were all so friendly making it an even lovelier experience.We would definitely recommend this restaurant.

We’ve lived in the village for a few years now and have always heard great things about the food and service at the Black Horse. We decided to go out for Sunday lunch and had to try the Black Horse with so many recommendations and we weren’t disappointed. What a fantastic meal we had! There was so much food we couldn’t finish it but the quality didn’t suffer for the quantity. We highly recommend the Black Horse If you’re out looking for somewhere to eat and drink. We returned here after the lockdown and wasn’t disappointed and my confidence in eating out was reassured with Michelle and Gary and staff making sure everyone Is safe and comfortable in the restaurant and pub area. The food is amazing and although you can’t go up to the carvery to help yourself due to social distancing the lovely team made sure that whatever you wanted they would bring to the table and you could have as much as you wanted. There were screens between each table and the atmosphere was calm and inviting. Such a lovely Sunday lunch well worth a visit.

Booked a table for seven of us at 6:30 on a Sunday evening for birthday celebration. Table not ready so got a bit wet rating. Carvery was good value with second portions and desserts coming free of charge. Chicken curry was well appreciated and fajitas ok. Tribute ale reasonable but a bit warm. Friendly service on a busy evening for them.

My friend and I had a lovely roast here today. It was our first trip here but it certainly wont be our last! The food is fabulous, well presented and the portions are generous so very good value for money.The staff are extremely friendly and professional....we were made very welcome. The regular menu looked fab too, lots of dishes I'll be trying in the future .A big thumbs up from me, give the Black Horse a visit, you wont be disappointed.

Never been to this pub before but wished I had. It has a lovely garden at the rear (which is not obvious from the front). The food was excellent - well cooked, well presented, tasty and a good sized portion. The service was very friendly and despite it being a busy night, we were asked if we needed more drinks. Would go back for sure!

We never go out to eat on a Tuesday but it’s so hot and the thought of feeding ourselves was just not on the agenda. We arrived at the Black Horse for an off the cuff meal and honestly we are absolutely in love. Friendly service, beautiful food and in the heat the staff were just wonderful. Mags is in her second shift of the day in this heat and her presence just made the experience all the better. She is so lovely and so welcoming even after a day of hard work and beat that is just too much to handle. We will return again and again. Absolute credit to all at the black horse!

I came with family for a lunchtime meal and WOW! The food is amazing, the staff so friendly and accommodating and my overall experience was out of this world. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this Gastropub! In the words of The Terminator "I'll (definitely) be back!!!"

Just moved into the area and liked the look of the Black Horse. We weren't disappointed. Lovely pub, great food, huge portions and a good variety of ales and wines. The staff are very friendly and the pub is well set out for social distancing. We will definitely be back on a regular basis.

The pub and restaurant are open and, as usual, well worth a visit. They are observing the one metre Covid-19 guidelines and tables are separated by a tall dividing screen. The atmosphere is still friendly and relaxed and the food is excellent. Try the fish and chips - outstanding.We need to support the best of British pubs. They are doing their utmost to keep everyone safe.We will be back again soon.

We have enjoyed several carveries here and never been disappointed. Parking is not easy at all but advice is offered by the staff. The staff are very busy but friendly and well-versed. The carvery is unlimited with an excellent array of veg. The price is on the steeper side but you get what you pay for , in this case a large meal followed by home-made , interesting desserts included in the price. Looking forward to our next feast here!

£18 for carvery and pudding of your choice - absolute bargin for the portions. The master carver gave us thick cut slices (or chunks!) of meat - turkey pork gammon beef. They also give pig in blanket (these aren't normal cocktail sausages with a bit of streaky bacon - you get a whole sausage and whole slice of bacon!). Some meats were dry but this is a carvery so bound to be and there is loads of gravy.Perhaps onky slight criticism is that the Yorkshire pudding was a bit small.We should have tried the homemade icecream (you get pretty mich 3 massive scoops in cocktail glass) but went with a trio of "mini dessert" the bumper cheesecake.

Cannot fault the food at this lovely village pub. Steak is amazing. Popcorn prawn salad, have no words, gorgeous. To be honest, I have eaten at the Black Horse on numerous occasions and think I have eaten pretty much everything on the menu and never found a fault. Highly recommend

Sunday Carvery, excellent choice of meats, vegetables nicely cooked, again excellent choice, same with deserts, beautifully presented, the staff were welcoming, and made sure all was to our satisfaction, can see why booking a table is essential, very busy, was our first visit, certainly won't be our last, dog friendly, highly recommend

We visited the black horse for Sunday carvery, as per usual the food was lovely, the meat cooked perfectly and visited the carvery for seconds. A bargain price for the food available-but make sure you book. It’s always busy...

Cosy pub, very good service. Best liver and bacon I've had in ages. Partner had a Ploughmans - cheese, sausage and ham - Generous portions No parking so have to find a space alongside The Green.

Have been here a few times now, never disappointed. Went for the liver and bacon with mash potatoes and vegetables. Well good job didn’t have a starter. The amount of gorgeous meat was substantial. Very tasty. All of us very happy. That said had to have a desert . Nice staff.

The Sunday lunch here is fabulous. There is a menu to choose but the best is the carvery. Everything is freshly cooked and a wide choice of meats. Lots of veg to choose from The staff are friendly and service is great. The bar has a great selection of beers ales and has a great atmosphere. A visit is a must.

Our second annual wider family meal together here. I ordered oriental duck filo parcel, slow roasted filet of lamb and to finish Tom, Dick N Harry trio of desserts Food portions again generous and everything looked really appetising. My trio of deserts was a bit disappointing as bit chewy and not the amazing flavours of last year. Others who had this dessert agreed However I would rate my experience as top end of very good overall!

This is a village pub full of locals and not at all pretentious. There is a roaring log fire and friendly staff (and fellow drinkers). Interestingly although the menu is typical pub grub it also has a fish theme. My scampi and chips were well cooked and attractively served in large quantities being one of the best scampi dishes I has sampled in a pub. The bill for 2 with ample drinks came to around £30 which was good value. We shall return. Note that parking on the main road can be quite difficult.

We have eaten before at The Black Pig but have never had their Sunday carvery.

Couldn't believe this pub doesn't have a car park, had to search for a place to leave the car. The wine was lovely, staff nice but food orders not taken till 7 pm, so moved on to another venue. Shame as I would have liked to have experienced the quality of the food.

Top notch lunch for 12, all piping hot and served at the same time. The largest fish I had ever seen and fantastic chips. The Tom, Dick and Harry pudding was immense and fab. No food envy here! Very impressive service in an atmospheric setting.

Expectations were high, the price was reasonable and the welcome friendly.

We had a very enjoyable meal here - the food is standard pub grub, but with generous portions and a decent selection of meat, fish and vegetarian options.

Visited here on a weekend in Kent after some research on Trip Advisor. It was a bit of a drive but well worth the effort. We eat out a lot and eat well at home so we can sometimes be difficult to please and add into the mix that my wife is a veggie and we are demanding customers.

Chance visit. I was staying in the horrible Mercure down the road and The Black Horse came up on Trip Advisor. Took a walk, only half a mile from the hotel, but in the pouring rain.

We visit quite regularly as it has a good welcoming pub atmosphere. Good menu and Sunday lunch is not to be missed.

Friendly and beautiful surrounding. Nice outside area to eat if you wish. Food piping hot and well presented. Chips to die for. The pavlova is unbelievably delicious and Sunday roasts are the best in town. Highly recommended

Well where do I start.....a great local pub BUT not just a pub the food is great, staff were friendly and added to this the locals were welcoming. Staying in a local well known hotel for 7 nights for work which was full of young lads watching football I don’t mind this but when you’ve been working all day and all you want is a pint wasn’t for me so decided to take the 5 minute walk and came across the Black Horse it was perfect for a pint and meal. On from this decided this is where I want to relax, the friendly staff recommended the Sunday roast so decided to book in. As I was on my own I booked in for the latest spot it was busy when I arrived with a great typical Sunday afternoon atmosphere again staff said I can eat when ever so decided to wait till the last minute and expecting the last few bits of the carvery wow was I shocked everything tasted fresh and plenty left. I’d just like to thank the owners, staff and locals for making me feel very welcome.

First time to this pub and really enjoyed the lunch. Most of our group had the Sunday roast which they all said was lovely. Rich adored the slightly pink roast beef, Drew had the very yummy lamb, and the girls said the turkey was delicious. The vegetables were varied, the roast potatoes super crispy and Yorkshire puddings large and crunchy. I had the fish cakes which were great and Marc said his Toad-in-the-hole was wonderful. Best of all it was all nice and hot!

Eight for lunch in a really busy pub/restaurant. Two course carvery and dessert for £17.50. Very good value and excellent food. Unlimited carvery including meat. Plenty of choices-4/5 meats, 4/5 vegs and lovely desserts to choose from.

Looks like a small country pub from the road but is extended massively to rear with a garden and restaurants.

Popped in here on our way up from Eastbourne back to London. Was suprised to get seated so quickly as it was very busy with live music in the garden. Received a warm welcome from the lady serving the carvery which looked tasty but she advised we wait 5 minutes while they put fresh food out. Was so full from the delicious roast that we couldn't manage a desert that comes with it. The waitress insisted we pick something to take home with us. Can't recommend this place enough.

Visited The Black Horse Sunday (11.08.19) for the first time following a recommendation that the carvery was brilliant. It definitely did not disappoint!! There was 5 meats, Lamb Pork, Gammon, Beef & Turkey, a stuffing ball, a pig in blanket and yorkshire pudding. The veg was carrot/swede mash, cauliflower & broccoli cheese (yummmmm) peas, leaks in cheese sauce, potatoes and gravy with all the sauces on the side! It was just to die for, decent amount of meat, everything cooked to perfection. You can have all meats and go back for more!!! Not just veg!!! We was so full after the first plate, we didn't bother but did squeeze in pudding! The pudding menu, well its the best pudding menu I've seen anywhere! I did struggle to eat mine but it was very very yummy! they also do a take away as well for your carvery which i think is blimming fantasic!! If you haven't been here, you need to go!!! Best to book as well if you are thinking of visiting between 12-3! Amazing, thanks The Black Horse! We will be returning!

This was our second visit here. First was a Easter Carvery with family the second was a Sunday meal with friends. On both occasions the food has been amazing so tasty and good portion sizes.. and the puddings really are delicious not one person had a bad word to say about any of the meals but unfortunately on both occasions a member of staff has been so rude and Unwelcoming. First to my partner then second to my friends. We really feel she is letting the place down. Unfortunately we haven’t managed to get her name as fortunately she wasn’t serving our meal. On both occasions she has ruined part of the meal hence only 4 stars. The rest of the staff are very friendly and can’t do enough however So we would return again as we don’t think we should let just one person put us off.

Had a very nice meal sat out in the garden. Good value, good service and friendly. Some pub regulars a bit noisy - mid week night - so probably should have stayed sat outside!

For me the restaurant is better to eat in than the bar, which can be crowded and noisy. I had popcorn prawns and avocado, which were very tasty indeed. There is plenty to eat and a very good menu if you are not a vegetarian. The vegetarian option seems to be restricted to fajitas and a special that changes every day. There is an excellent seafood menu however and some imaginative meat dishes as well as some old favourites. With veganism/vegetarianism becoming more popular perhaps a wider choice in this area might pay dividends? The Black Horse is reasonably priced. In all, a very good evening.

We stopped here by chance on our drive back to London from Hastings and stumbled across a gem. The carvery was fantastic with tonnes of veg (highlights included creamy leeks and delicious cauliflower/broccoli cheese), and 5 meats to choose from. Plus a veggie option of 2 Yorkshire puddings with veggie stuffing and gravy. It was great value as you could go up for more as many times as you wanted and dessert was included. The desserts were homemade and all sounded amazing. We opted for millionaires shortbread and crunchie flavoured ice creams, which were both gorgeous and even though we were pretty full we managed to polish off the lot. The staff were lovely too! We will definitely consider stopping again on our next journey from visiting family.

A lovely visit to a village pub that I used to visit in my youth. It is now a very popular restaurant. We were a group of 10 and service was nice and quick by really helpful and smiley staff. I was the only veggie at our table so I didn’t have the Sunday carvery but chose from the Specials. It was the nicest vegetarian meal I’ve ever had when eating out. It was an asparagus, sweet potato, peppers and mozzarella stack with seeds and sun dried tomatoes. Absolutely delicious. The rest of the table had dessert included in their meal. I chose to have a coffee which tasted good. Look forward to visiting again

Went here for lunch with a group from work. Considering the number of us the service was quite quick. The food was well presented and delicious. Generous portions meant we couldn't manage dessert - great shame, the menu was very tempting. Friendly staff. Will visit again.

Had dinner here and it was absolutely delightful, I am a big lover of seafood and it was all served perfectly. Went there in the evening and it was busy but everything was still perfect.

I’ve been to the Black Horse before for an evening meal and found the staff attentive and the food of a good quality.

We went out with the kids to enjoy our day, googled search somewhere in tunbridge wells to eat!! We came across this place so we thought we would try it. What an awful experience. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by blonde female that told us you have 10 minutes to order.... we got put off but ok, then I asked if we could seat in the restaurant to be told no one is there so you can not. I wish I had never gone there

Dropped in here to get some food. Place was very busy but they found us a table. Service was very friendly and helpful. We had the carvery which was great, very plentiful and all fresh home cooking. We had such a big roast that we had no room for pudding so the waitress happily packed it up to take away. Would wholey recomend the black hoarse in Pembury but definitely pre book as we were lucky to get a table. They also do some lovely sea food dishes.

Parking was very tricky and elderly parents had a long walk from their car. Table was reserved as requested. Drinks were good and reasonable. Server friendly. Carvery was plentiful and tasty and not a long wait. Desserts included in the £17.50, home-made and high quality. We were overcharged by one meal which was rectified but a little disappointing. The lady in charge was beautifully dressed and professional , very busy yet still managed to be friendly.

A good pub with good food it’s not one of those jumped up gastro establishments, We Had lunch here with the family all the food dishes tasted great and were of good quality. Will definitely be returning

Wow that was some carvery!!! The best ever had anywhere!!

Visited the Black Horse today, to help my step-daughter celebrate her birthday.

We were very impressed by the buffet provided for our group - sandwiches,curry,fish and chips in a cup and very large desserts ! The fish and chips were the best ! All ages catered for. Tea and coffee kept coming. We were given a private room at the back.

The Black Horse is very popular, especially for their Carvery - only offered on a Sunday between 12.30 - 6pm. It's advised to book a table otherwise you might be disappointed. There's a mish mash of dining areas, all with good atmosphere. The Customer Service is excellent - there is no rush to choose your food nor to leave and nothing seems to be too much trouble. They offered 4 different roasted meats, perfectly cooked roast potatoes and yorkshires. The vegetables were beautifully cooked and consistently replenished. Everything was served by the Landlady who's efficiency and organisation was Wow! The lamb was amazing but couldn't resist a 2nd visit to try the beef. Full credit to the Chefs!! I'd ordered cheeses (which are yummers), to follow my main meal but could barely eat it as had been a piglet with the main. Not a problem - they offered to box it up for me to take home :-). I am so going to visit here again!

A recent business trip crossed over with Valentine’s Day and we ate here. They had decorated every table wonderfully and the staff were very welcoming.

We sat all 12 of us in the rear of the restaurant , I was facing the carvery seeing all that fantastic food laid out in front of me ,seeing how fresh it all was . None of us were disappointed with any of the food or the service or the price very good value .

A large group of us were staying at the Mercure hotel along the road and luckily managed to get a last minute booking here on a Friday night. The pub was very very busy and the waiting staff were working extremely hard but were always smiley and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. I ordered the swordfish dish which was delicious and other people in the party all enjoyed their main meal too which were served efficiently as large portions and were very tasty and of good quality. For dessert I tried one of their homemade icecreams - I went for Nutella and I can safely say this was the most delicious icecream I can ever remember having. Again, the other people in the party all enjoyed their desserts a lot. I am on a gluten free diet and there were plenty of options available for me. I cannot fault the service, hospitality of food at The Black Horse and would recommend to anyone who finds themselves in this part of the world!

This place exceeded our expectations from the first moment. Helpful and friendly service, with staff accepting and fixing little niggles immediately without hesitation. The food was similarly better than expected, with something on the broad menu for everyone. Excellent family fayre, making a family & friends celebration close to Christmas a relaxed and stress-free event. Lovely.

We visit Pembury a few times per year and have been wanting to come here for a while based on great reviews. I got the opportunity on the last Friday in November at Christmas meal with relatives. Lovely place and plenty of room for larger parties at the back in conservatory. Service was exceptional throughout from staff members. I ordered wild mushroom and chestnut filo pastry parcel, honey roast duckling and puddings ie Tom, Dick” N “Harry. Food portions very generous and everything looked really appetizing and tasted as good as the dishes looked. My trio of deserts was “off the charts” for being really good! Will return when next in the area and would highly recommend!

We decided to try The Black Horse again after having a shocking roast dinner here a few years ago. Our table for four was at the end of the bar area, we were offered the dining room but as there was no one else seated in there we stayed where we were. Unfortunately that was right next to the gents toilets that were used extremely frequently. The pub decor is quite tired & old looking. The pub was mostly filled with what I assume were regulars & maybe a darts team as our dinner was interrupted frequently with loud noises. The food itself was just OK, our friends shared the mussels to start, which were fine but the sauce lacked flavour & tasted a bit like onion water. Our sharing starter, the three amigos, was certainly not enough to share, with what only can be described as an egg cup sized prawn cocktail. Two of us had the steak with the giant prawn & garlic butter, this again lacked flavour, it was accompanied by chips but no veggies or salad. Two of us had fish pie, the green vegetables were very overcooked with no crunch & the fish pie was just that, a fish pie. The desserts were not too bad, but the lemon cheesecake was too runny & I was dissapointed to get tinned strawberries on my pavlova with a very powdery meringue.

The Black Horse is a bit of a rarity these days, being a great pub for locals and a lovely place to eat. We had a great evening meal with friends, lovely food and not too expensive-a good experience .Staff are helpful and efficient.

Three of us went in for an early dinner and weren’t disappointed. First time here. Lovely pub with authentic pub smell at the front and food smell at the back. Waitress was friendly, cute and efficient.

Wow, first visit and found myself trapped in the side road thinking it was the car park. A mistake you would only make once. I was therefore a little on the back foot when finally entering the bar but it all soon melted away with great service in a very busy bar / restaurant. The food was great and though I didn’t have the carvery my wife said it was the best choice and quality she had ever seen. I am sure we will be back.

We visited the Black Horse yesterday evening for a family occasion. The menu is extensive with a range of different influences from traditional English to Oriental dishes. We were all pleased with our food, they tasted great and the portions were large, we definitely didn't need starters! There were a few large parties, one with approximately 30 people but this did not affect the service we received. All in all a very enjoyable affordable meal, we will be back!

Fine pub restaurant on the outskirts of Tunbridge Wells. A menu that eclipses many fine dining locations. Good selection of cask beers. Friendly efficient staff always a plus.

Best carvery I have eaten in a long while. Very busy so need to book. We ate at 3.30pm and food was top quality - meat was plentiful and well cooked as was a good variety of veg. Puddings were included in carvery price and all home made so a bit different from the standard pub selection. Highly recommend.

Popped in for lunch on our way through Tunbridge Wells. The service was ok but the food was exceptional- we had the steak pie and the burger. The burger was big and high quality. The chips were handmade and the side salad was interesting and fresh. The pie was also handmade and great quality and very delicious. The vegetables were perfectly cooked and abundant. We were very impressed. This was the best lunch we have had for a long time. Would definitely recommend. Come early as they stop serving food around 2.15. The only suggestion we would make is not to pressure you so much to make your selection- we didn’t have much time, but we would have appreciated two minutes to at least read the menu! Luckily we both made great choices!

Quite simply the best carvery around it's great food and a great atmosphere. The owners Gary and Michelle together with their staff offer a warm welcome and ensure everything runs smoothly. Would recommend you book rather than just turn up to save disappointment.

Great carvery, really great carvery. Unfortunately and only let down by where you are seated as a conservatory is always going to be to hot and eating a roast dinner whilst feeling uncomfortable is not great. Plus the serving staff who walked past our table so many times it got embarrassing before taking out plates and offering the dessert menu.

This was recommended by friends who live locally. We went for a family celebration, 5 adults 1 teen. The pub specialises is seafood but does a renowned carvery and good selection of steak. I can honestly say I've never sat and looked at a menu without knowing what to choose. Everyone in the party chose a different dish, most are the chefs variation on a classic, as each dish came out together, piping hot and absolutely delicious. I'm definitely going back.

Wonderful place to eat/drink/socialise. Friendly. Food amazing highly recommended. Few steps if going outside to patio area. Parking has to be near by. But well worth the trip.

Stopped here for bite to eat after previous good experiences and was again delighted with everything... opted for a sharing platter of Brie and pate with breads, followed by cod and chips and sizzling vegetable fajita’s... all the food was delicious and served within good time, service was basic but nice and the cost was very reasonable!!! As pub food goes, I would recommend the black horse, they have an amazing choice of fresh seafood too.

A group of 22 of us came to celebrate a friends retirement , and I can only say that the food and service were excellent!

Last minute booking on a Bank Holiday. Met up with family not seen for long time. Extremely good choice, extensive menu and food excellent. Reception and service really friendly and attentive.

Having booked my Birthday Hogroast Party months ago, the day finally came, 7 April!

We decided to pop in to the Black Horse on the spur of the moment after the cinema on Easter Monday. All the food ordered was excellent and thoroughly enjoyed by seven of us. I can recommend the Black Horse Burger although I was torn as the Mussels my son had looked great.

Went to this pub after hearing great things about it, I wasn’t disappoint, the carvery was what we booked. You have to book early, the food was fantastic and very hot, they also catered for gluten free, well, the gravy was gluten free, four or five meats, plenty of veg.

This time went for Sunday lunch. A fantastic carvery with a choice of 5 meats or combination. Large selection of vegetables and all the trimmings. Excellent quality and regularly replenished. Fantastic value!

Used to live in Pembury, got to know Gary and Michele quite well, loved the pub and have always returned when in the area.

First time at this pub, would definitely go back when I am in the area! Very busy when we arrived on a Friday evening, but staff really friendly and welcoming! Food took awhile to arrive, but huge portions of really fresh home cooked food.
