The Black Horse in Brighton and Hove

Popped in after theatre on a wet Thursday night. Didn't fancy any of the pubs we passed from North Street as crowds trying to get in or queuing and saw across the road what looked like an ordinary pub and we were well pleased with our find. Friendly welcome and good beer in a very convivial pub with great atmosphere - a great place to end an enjoyable evening.

Today on the 22nd May 2022 my family went to watch a football ( Final game of Premier league). To start we went in without any issues,we ordered our drinks and sat down to enjoy the game. During half time, we went outside to get some fresh just like others were. Upon our return, the Landlord, stopped us from going back in, we asked him why, and he said that he's the owner and has the right to refuse anyone to enter. We confronted TED ( the Landlord) on what ground he was refusing us entry, he kept on saying that it's his Pub, and thus he can do whatever he wants. Those we were sat with even came out and started to get involved, but TED still refused us entry. But yet, he allowed everyone else to come in even those who were not there initially, but somehow the Black family was the one they refused entry. When we continued to ask why he was refusing us entry, he then started to say ( kids are not allowed and only then started asking for ID). But it made no sense as he saw us inside before and did not say anything. All the drinks we had bought was still inside and mu daughter's bag and son were still inside If this is not RACISM IS DAY LIGHT I do not know what it is. It's so hard to see your own children( so young) experience so much racism at such a young age. This Pub owner( TED) NEEDS EDUCATING. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE

We stopped here for a drink on Sat12 June. We sat out side because of the sunny weather. We went in side to look round. Nice clean pub.All Covid restrictions in place, tables cleaned regularly and good distance between tables.. Great selection of drinks beer, wines , spirits, shots etc all at reasonable prices. The Barmanager [i think he was] was very helpful and polite and welcoming.The locals were friendly as well. All in all a very pleasant experience. Would definitely go back

Had a lovely lunch with friends in the beautiful revamped garden area. Service was good and the food was great . We were made very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. So lovely to sit outside and and enjoy the weather away from the traffic. We will return

There is a small room, comfortably furnished and away from the main bar and restaurant that is a very cosy place to enjoy a drink. It is not renovated, and one can easily imagine Rudyard Kipling or Sir Edward Burne-Jones enjoying a drink there, perhaps even together. I like finding these secret and quiet places.

Someone has the address wrong for this. It's in the High street Rottingdean. Very nice pub, good food and well worth a visit, but it's defiantly NOT across the road from the Dome theatre. That's the other Black Horse.

Comfortable gastro pub. Both food and service are very good. Decor has recently been redone and looks very chic and clean.

We had a pit stop here for a quick lunch. Service was swift and staff friendly also food tasty. Food and drink not overly priced. We enjoyed our brief stop here.

We went here after visiting the i360 and it was a totally random choice, but the food was great, well priced and very tasty. The garden was kitted with good seating cubicles that had small heaters that you could choose to use if needed.

In front of the pub they put an information they are serving food from 12. I entered, had a quick look, took a seat, made my pick. Lad behind the bar was not very bothered when I asked can I order food as he said they do not serve food now. It was 2 p.m.- 2 hours passed! Did not want to argue and walked out but get your information correct as I wasted 10 minutes. Maybe it was because of the football match on TV. Not sure.

This pub is right in the centre of town on a very busy road opposite the Dome theatre in Brighton. Staff very attentive despite being rushed off their feet. A nice pub any time of the day to relax watching the footy or just chat with friends. Ive eaten here on several occasions and their roast dinners are second to none. Their chilli con carne is also nice but they serve it with nan bread which i thought was a bit weird. Reasonably priced home cooked food in an excellent location.

Popped into this lovely village pub today and was delighted to meet an old friend followed by another two within 30 minutes this really what a pub should be

Sorry not eaten here yet, but the staff are lovely and the beer is crisp and cold. It has a great atmosphere and a beer garden at the back. We kind of monopolised this but there were not complaints. A fun and lively place - its a must in this part of Brighton

Friendly busy pub with pub grub. Nice choice of beers. Nice pudding. Friendly helpful staff. Very busy when we arrived without booking a table but they accommodated us. Also had a dj for the evening so if you like loud music when you are eating ....

Lovely friendly staff, great food, lovely Sunday roasts. Also a great place to watch sport. Can get pretty busy.

Went back to the Black Horse in Rottingdean for a return visit, this time to watch the Biggest talent show on the south Coast, (as billed) The Dean Factor WOW, what a brilliant night, If you ring in advance they will reserve a table for you, especially for friends and family entering the competition, The amount of talent was brilliant and Declan & John could not have done enough to make us feel at home and looked after, fabulous venue, pub, Beer, Food, Staff and i can highly recommend, we will definitely be back, Thursday is the Dean Factor but they have lots of upcoming Cabaret, as well as Tribute acts coming up, good mix of Locals, tourists and even gay guys and girls from nearby Brighton's "Scene" even Declan's alter ego Drag Act is Patti O'Dors, very glam, and great Host ! Thanks guys David x

Nos corrian aquí para el almuerzo para escapar de la lluvia. El servicio era poco atractivo, el pescado y las patatas fritas estaban bien pero hubiera hecho una gran diferencia si el servicio era mejor, y el hombre del bar había sido más entusiasta. No...

First class pub food, excellent choice, very clean village pub with a great atmosphere, will be back

Se volete gustarvi un buon arrosto della domenica, il Black Horse è proprio quello che vi serve.Ampia scelta di carne, contorni interessanti, birre ottime ed accoglienza eccezionale (hanno pure sfamato il cane di un mio amico).Good job guys.

Beau petit pub, très sympa et dans la pure tradition british, le jour où j'y suis allé, il était plein à craquer d'universitaires nouvellement diplômés (avec capes noires et chapeaux biscornus) Et la faune habituelle de ce type d'établissement (gogos fou de mode, babas cool en jeans, starlettes en folies, femmes du monde en robes ultra-courtes montées sur échasses, etc...)J"ai vraiment passé un très bon moment là-bas.

As a customer, it felt as if I was an annoyance to the staff. Gave up trying to get served after 45 minutes and went elsewhere.

Cosy pub with the secret garden. That's very unusual. Traditional fish n chips is served for 6.95 pounds but two portions for 10 pounds.

Have been here a few times now, and the welcome is always good. The food is very good quality and value, our last visit we had steak and it was cooked superbly, worth a visit when in the village

We eat here for the first time and were very impressed. The welcome was warm and the food great value and excellent quality. The restaurant is small so you need to book. There is a range of quality ales on offer when he have been care for . We will be be back

När engelsmännen som bor i Brighton säger att den här pubens fish & chips är de bästa i stan, så ligger det något i det. Fisken var perfekt tillagad och tillbehören riktigt goda och även den lokala ölen smakade bra. Springer du i affärerna i "the lanes" så är du bara ett stenkast från den här typiskt engelska puben.

Recently had sunday lunch here and it was excellent, would recommend to others but it can get very busy as it is a popular pub
