The Black Boy Inn in Gwynedd

Stayed for one night with my husband on the 25/11/2023, WOW room was spotless ,bed was so comfortable, bath was a grateful addition .Had a table booked in the restaurant for 6pm that evening, was seated by a lovely lady called Ruth ,who then waited on us the entire time with a great smile and lovely sense of humour.The actual meal was amazing cooked to perfection ,piping hot and good sizes but for me the cheese cake was my highlight never have a lasted one so good .Would highly recommend and will be returning again in the very near future 10/10

Came for the carvery. They sat us at a reserved table. No one to be seen staff wise . Whnt to the bar to order my carvery- -to be told there not doing a carvery. Still who works ere. Theres a lot of noise . But noone to be seen

The pub is just a few minutes walk from the castle. We sat in the smaller bar at the front but all the rooms were equally cosy. Service was quick and friendly, and the food was good.

I came here with my family for dinner this evening and it was not to be faulted. Although the pub was incredibly busy, we were served quickly. My leek and potato soup was lovely and my hot chocolate afterwards delicious. One of my favourite cosy pubs.

Lovely meal, cooked just right and to perfection. Kind, amazing staff, ordering food wasn’t to slow, fast and easy through the bar of app. Seating was all quiet until many people came hoarding through for tables. Despite all positives, it took a moment to find where to get a table, we needed to go into a separate room to let the staff know we needed a table. Toilets were easy to access. I believe I would come here again if I visited the local area. (Note: these aren’t all facts, some of which may intend to be either opinions or thoughts)

Myself and my partner recently spent 4 days at the Black Boy, from the moment of check in our stay was faultless, I must mention Jude who managed our check in, she was brilliant and always made sure we had what we needed in the room , we stayed in room 24 it was exceptional but be aware it's on the top floor with very low beams but being 16th C what do you expect. The breakfast was faultless, a large choice with something for everyone, the Full cooked breakfast was superb, as was the service, from the male waiter, sorry I can't remember his name . we are in the restaurant and again the food was to a very high standard, the fish chowder was exceptional.

After 20 years of staying away in various hotels, tonight's shambles is in a league of its own. Grossly over priced for Pub food, service which is about the worst, and rudeness which they score very well on. From initial ordering to the food being delivered to the table was pathetic. Food arrives no cutlery or sauces offered, not even salt and pepper. 6 members of staff walked past a number of times, including someone who looked like a manager. No one noticed the burger was untouched for about 80 minutes. When it was bedtime I walked it into the kitchen myself. Offered a refund, which I obviously took and had to listen to them communicating in their own language. To be fair the food looked ok, but didn't taste it. To end on a positive, the Punk IPA was good. Goodnight

We visited as a family of 14 for our annual family weekend to Wales. Pre booked a table for the restaurant. On arrival when asked about our table the waitress was rude and unfriendly suggesting we just find a table. After clarifying we had booked a table as we were a large booking she showed us your table… again in an unfriendly manner We ordered drinks and food and no issues with the process. However when the waitress started serving the mains she referred to 3 Welsh pies… one of our order was named in Welsh… describing a chicken and leek pie.. so when asked if the 3 Welsh pies was indeed the chicken and leek pie the waitress again in a very rude tone said ‘No, a Welsh pie’. All I wanted to do was to clarify if it was the chicken and leek pie. Tables weren’t cleared, the food over priced for no table service (you had to order at the bar or via an app) Won’t be going again and certainly wouldn’t recommend

The bar is warm and cosy and you can eat there too. The restaurant area through the back was a bit chilly and harshly lit - the bar is far preferable. Food is good - lamb shank was particularly good and there were several other local dishes on the menu. A bit of a faff to have to order via the QR code on the table - I don’t mind that in a chain, but it felt impersonal in a little local pub and the online system wasn’t the most user friendly. But overall a good pub and clearly popular with locals. Lovely to sit there hearing Welsh spoken all around us.

After visiting the castle, my wife and I looked for a nearby restaurant. This restaurant is fairly close, not too far from one of the city gates. We arrived shortly after they opened for dinner. A sign said to seat yourself and gave 3 options for ordering your meal, scan the QR code, use the app, or order at the bar. As we were starting to work on inputting our order, a waitress stopped by and took our order. I much prefer being attended to. Our meals were quite good. I had the Eggs & Ham. I was a bit surprised the ham was cold. But, part of being on holiday is experiencing new things. If I'm ever back in the area, I would consider eating here again.

Seafood chowder is what we came for and it did not disappoint. Lots of big prawns, mussels, cod in a creamy sauce with potatoes and carrots and we got a side of scrappy chips. So much food which we didn’t quite finish. Very busy and so glad we went back later after our first visit yielded not one free table. Good beers and wines too.

Really love this pub! Visited twice this month. Lasagne never fails! Very filling and tasty. Great pub, diolch yn fawr!

Shocking place words cannot describe !!! Food was mediocre to say the least the carpets were dirty the cutlery was water marked and the wait time was unacceptable over three quarters of an hour before we got any food Will never go again

Disappointing. The building is lovely and characterful. The staff were all very friendly . However; the chicken curry was really poor. It was tasteless and the chicken was very tough. The rice ( just boiled rice) was ok , the naan bread was ok but the chips were horrible too, not hot. Overall very disappointing and it was £16.95! A frozen box curry would have been nicer!

If you're looking for a Welsh Pub with plenty of character and great ales than look no further. This Pub had great character and even though we didn't stay for food, it also looked fabulous.

This pub felt like the heart of Caernarvon on a wet and blustery evening. As we entered it was full, warm and inviting. The food was delicious on the 2 nights we ate there and the service just great. Generous portions too!

This is a great spot but the food really is poor. It's not the service or the cooking, that's fine but the choices are really outdated. It could be such a better place to go.

We went 3 times during our stay. Inconsistent food- some really good, some very average. Good drinks. Solid pub experience. Nice and plentiful outdoor seating, which is within viewing distance of a playground across the street for kids. Perfect.
