The Black a Moor Inn in Harrogate

Absolutely brilliant night stay, all the staff from the owner to the chefs and bar staff so polite and courteous, food freshly cooked to order and first class (brilliant wood fired pizza oven) such a comfortable little bar area whilst waiting to go into restaurant. The room we had(twin bedroom due to a mix up with booking but not a problem) was comfortable with a great power shower and lovely views out over the countryside for the sunsets, definitely recommend this little gem of a place for anyone visiting the surrounding area ( great for Ripon race course) and we will definitely return. Keep up the good work Seamus and all your staff.

We call in yesterday on our way back from a weekend away and we were stuck in traffic.I had chicken Supreme and the flavour of the spice was delicious the chicken was cooked perfectly and not dry at all, although we had a a bit of a wait it was definitely worth waiting for.

Perfect place for Sunday lunch. Well decorated, friendly staff, cosy atmosphere and to top it all, the best pizza I've had in the UK in the last 14 years. Will done guys. Keep it up

Had the night here in our fairly large motorhome. There was a motorhome already parked up for the night so parked next to that. Let the staff know our intention and booked a table for food for 6.30 pm. Lovely meal, good beer and friendly staff. Went for day out in Ripon in our bus and decided to return for a second night. Popped into pub for a couple of drinks. Very welcoming atmosphere with friendly locals. Recommend

We have had the takeaway pizzas numerous times now. Very friendly staff who take the order, the gentleman who runs the pub has delivered these true to delivery time, very friendly guy and the pizzas are still hit when we receive them. we have pretty much tried them all now and they are all equally as delicious. As are the starters we are working our way through! Lovely to have fantastic, super tasty pizzas now in the area. Keep up the good work!

Stumbled upon this place while trying to find somewhere…ANYWHERE to eat. We’d visited several pubs and been disappointed to find food had stopped 30/60 mins ago, Google searches also proved fruitless as it seemed everywhere in the vicinity stopped serving food at 2:30 As such, it was a pleasant surprise to hear the Black A Moor was indeed serving food…and lovely it was too After very pleasant service, a nice cold pint and setting up in the beer garden, surrounded by gorgeous views - We were treated to a couple of great sandwiches, Steak & Onion + Bacon & Brie with decent trimmings. We also got a bowl of the ‘Dirty Chips’ which were absolutely delicious. All finished off with chocolate fudge cake & sticky toffee pudding! Thanks for being our food-serving heroes! Fantastic visit to the Black A Moor Inn, the food was excellent. I had Deep fried Brie and the Steak and Ale pie it was just superb cooked to perfection. The staff are amazing so welcoming and attentive, I booked online the night before and the process was so easy and straight forward. If you want tasty food with a good atmosphere then the Black a Moor is the place to go can't recommend enough and look forward to going back soon

First time here and it will not be the last. Easy to book and confirmation received. Came for Sunday dinner. We eat out every Sunday and this is by far the best. Great choice. Very friendly staff. I had beef and my husband had pork. Both came with several roast potatoes, roasted to perfection, large homemade Yorkshire Pudding, lovely firm carrots, green cabbage, courgettes and a generous bowl of cauliflower cheese to share. We were also given a jug of extra gravy. The pork came with stuffing balls and crackling. Very friendly staff who gave excellent service. Absolutely delicious food. My beef was again cooked to perfection, very tasty and extremely tender. Very reasonably priced. We will definitely be back. Highly recommend.

We were at a Christening at the pub today. Lovely place, friendly welcome, tasty Sunday lunch. I had the veggie option which I must say was really tasty. I always avoid Sunday lunch as the veggie option is usually very poor so what a change to have such a lovely meal.

What an absolutely delightful wee hotel this one is! Super friendly owner. Nothing was a bother for them. Dinner was in their restaurant and food was epic! Scampi hit the mark perfectly. Was the perfect place to stop for the night whilst travelling with a super bath and warm rooms. Beds comfy also. Thanks to Fergal for looking after us so well.

We stay here every April for the races, the rooms are stunning & we always have a good night sleep. We had dinner after the races & the food was fantastic & generous portions, same for breakfast too. Seamus is always friendly & very welcoming as are his staff. We will be booking again for next year. We love it here.

My family and I popped in for a late Sunday Lunch, even though it was just after 4pm they still accommodated us. Very helpful staff, they prepared a rump steak for my son even though it wasn't on the Sunday lunch menu. They made us feel very welcome, I had the roast chicken which was lovely and we all had some desert as well, the sticky toffee pudding and apple crumble, both wonderful. On top of that they do a fantastic pint of Guinness!! We will definitely visit again.

Menu has been chopped in half since last year....very expensive. Won't be returning very disappointed! Waitress was nice. Landlord rude.

Nice restaurant but very cold and no atmosphere. No colour in the restaurant, a posey of flowers would add colour to the tables. as so bland. Not welcoming. Music was playing when we arrived but not when we left. Food was ok, but others Sunday roasts been sent back. They have to offer good quality beef for Sunday lunch. Hence why only 9 customers for Sunday lunch, yet other restaurants we normally go to doing over 100 covers. Shame as could be a lovely restaurant.

Such a shame went for a birthday Sunday Lunch, food tasted like the day befores , mushy cauliflower cheese (unrecognizable), no finesse, read reviews before we went and should have gone elsewhere but wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt, overpriced for a poor meal. Clearly gone down since last owners will not be returning sorry guys. Hate to do bad reviews but feel we did not get value for money. Total disappointment.

The scene was set by the beer. We were served four pints ranging from awful to ok to nice. No hesitation changing the awful one but it shouldn’t have arrived at the table. Prawn starters were obviously made with frozen prawns and were tough. Lamb rump should fall off the bone but a knife was definitely needed. Meat was tough and gravy distinctly bisto. My sons steak was ordered as medium rare but on cutting open was totally raw. On re cooking it was perfect but by then we were all well into our meals. Pudding is the final chapter and a chance to shine. Hot chocolate fudge cake that wasn’t warm enough to melt the ice cream and very much like Sarah Lee. Sticky toffee that again looked suspiciously supermarket. Really friendly service but very poor food. Not sure that the chef was actually working that night!

We stayed for one night as a part of a day and night out. I loved it and would go again. Seamus is a wonderful warm and friendly host and should be proud of the service he offers and his place.

We planned to eat with family between christmas and new year as we have heard really good things. When we pulled into the car park, there was two men in chef uniform smoking on the benches. They both looked unkempt so we decided to leave as was concerned about hygiene.

What a lovely pub. Great atmosphere, friendly and welcoming staff and the food was lovely. A roaring fire welcomed us and our dogs along with a super friendly welcome from the bar staff. Immediately made to feel at ease and nothing was too much trouble....

Just stopped for a bite of lunch, and really glad we did. I had the Homemade Steak and Ale pie which was absolutely lovely made with shortcrust pastry and very well filled, while my wife had the Fish Goujons and a portion of chips both meals were lovely and well worth stopping for. As we are on holiday travelling around Yorkshire unlikely we will return this trip, but will certainly return when in the area again.Thanks for a lovely lunch.

We have visited the pub approx 5 times and on each occasion the food has been exceptional. There is always a warm and friendly welcome from the staff and we always leave absolutely stuffed!! The menu is excellent with plenty of options to suit and the 2/3 course meal deal is very good value although I’m not sure who could possibly eat all three courses as the portions are generous!! A warm and friendly pub with outstanding service and food to match.

Stayed one night on 9th September after a last minute booking. Lovely comfortable ground floor room, spotlessly clean with everything needed for a happy experience. Lovely polite and friendly couple running the pub, Rob and Jen, who couldn't do enough for you. They work extremely hard over long hours. Ate in the restaurant that evening and enjoyed a lovely meal, followed by a hearty breakfast the next morning. All in all, a delightful experience, highly recommended.Thank you very much to all involved.

Amazing pub, even better food. Friendly and accommodating staff, but most importantly, home of the best DJ in Ripon. After a hearty meal settle yourself in to DJ Robbo dropping the bass from lofty heights, making craters in your frontal lobe. Tipped to be the next headline gig at creamfields yet a humble servant of the people, he gave up the world stage to serve us beer.

Stayed for a wedding and had a wonderful time. Our room was comfortable and clean, with tea/ coffee being refreshed daily.The staff were friendly and welcoming and clearly work very hard as a team.The food was amazing! Compliments to the chef...would highly recommend the fish and chips and Sunday roast.I could write a whole separate review on the biscoff cheesecake.....mmmm, please keep that on the menu!Not being a morning person, I would have preferred if breakfast was served a little later (hrs were 7 to 9am)...but that is a reflection of my personal preferences and by no means a criticism. The quality of the breakfast was great and there was a good range to choose from.If we ever visit the area again we would definitely return!

What more could you want, a beautifully kept country Inn set in the North Yorkshire countryside. From the moment we arrived till the time when we left you couldn’t have hope for a more friendly welcome. Rob and Jen were excellent hosts, nothing was too much. I had arranged a meal for 9 adults in the evening, the table set up was immaculate as was the presentation of the food and service. The breakfast in the morning was to die for, my “Full English” was faultless. We may live in Scotland but we will be back. Thank you Rob and Jen for everything…..

Before the pandemic a visit here was a real treat...it's a distance yo travel for lunch but always worth it...not anymore...ordered a sandwich on white bloomer bread...whereas before you would always get lovely bread not today...cheap thin white sliced that disintegrated when I picked it up...had to eat the filling separately so it was not a sandwich...if they can't be bothered with the quality of a sandwich, what the rest of the menu is like I shudder to think...loved this place...not anymore

Booked some time ago to coincide with a visit to the Crab and Lobster the next night. Our reservation was for the sunday night. On the Friday i was e-mailed with the infoormation that they stopped serving food at four and the bar closed at six. This was far too late to rebook anywhere and was highly annoying.The room was on the small side and could have had fewer cobwebs but o.k. 'ishBreakfasr the next morning was beautiful.

We stayed here for one night to break up our journey to Scotland. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, and the en suite room was clean and comfortable. We had dinner in the charming restaurant, the food was delicious and the bar well stocked. There was a varied choice for breakfast, we had the full English which kept us going all day. Well done to the fantastic staff, a great place to stay.

The Black A Moor is just off the A1 so we booked for Sunday lunch as it was half way on our journey to Alnwick. Well what a surprise. From the outside looks like a pretty standard pub, inside the decor is delightful.Warm welcome, excellent service, well laid out tables and brilliant food. Had 3 courses including the roast and it was delicious. Great value at £21 for 3 courses, even the wine was good value, a rarity.If you are passing on the A1 make sure you stop off, you will not regret it. (Hope I can get in next time I pass by!)

This was our second stay at Black A Moor Inn. It is such a lovely welcoming place. The first time we stayed we had a meal there as well. It was excellent. The only reason we didn’t eat there again is that is was closed that evening. We visit the area a lot as there is the wonderful Newby Hall and gardens nearby and many gardens that we like to visit. Thank you to everyone at the Inn. You are doing a wonderful job . We will be back next year or possibly later this year as well.

Really nice atmosphere and decor. We were a party of 5 adults and two dogs so were sat in the bar area rather than the restaurant but that was fine by us. The food options were good but there were a few things that were not available by the time we arrived at 7pm. Food was really good and enjoyed by us all. Special feedback on the sea bass which was great! The frozen Elton Mess also deserves a special mention. The service was really good; very friendly and chatty waiting staff. Overall great service good food and excellent value for money. We will definitely be back on our next visit to the area.

What a lovely place - great hospitality, great food and comfy rooms. We have visited here a few times and the food is always great! We pre- booked, arrived and we're shown to our table. All is Covid safe and spotlessly clean. Food was ordered and quickly at our tables. Friendly staff on hand to help. This is our favorite to visit when we go to Fountains Abbey.

The food was very good but the service provided by tweedledee and tweedledum aka Jen and Rob was simply excellent.. They were so helpful, fun and never stopped. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you for a most enjoyable evening.

Please don’t go to this restaurant if you want microwaved food that means you can be in and out in half an hour.The food is always freshly prepared to order and is excellent. The Sunday lunch menu is exceptional value and includes the regular Sun lunch staples plus delicious pies, fabulous fish and chips and risottos Jennifer , Rob and the staff have created various COVID friendly eating spaces from a covered outside area to the bar and the main restaurant. The service is friendly and when visiting yesterday we felt very safe with all the appropriate precautions being taken. Always delivers and never disappointed.

Rained out of a tent, let down by a guesthouse, this place was the bright part of a dismal experience. AWESOME AND WELCOMING, delightful food beverage and atmosphere, the room clean, bright, spacious bath/shower, breakfast every bit as delicious as the evening meal. I am so enthralled that I am taking my partner back this weekend for my birthday

I travel extensively and routinely visit Ripon to see my grown up sons when in Uk. I can honestly say the hospitality and friendliness at this little charming hotel surpasses some of the leading hotels in the world that I’ve had fortune to visit. From the ‘nothing is two trouble’ mum daughter pair that head the team, through the charming and funny barman and ending with the amazing chef who visits his patrons during service to ensure the meals are 100% perfect to the customers liking. The lounge has a warm welcoming log fire to rescue you from the North Yorkshire weather and in no time you are relaxing again. The rooms (I was in No6) is quite simply lovely. Spacious with immaculate en suite, with the room visited daily. I used to stay in the City of Ripon on my visits, never again. This hotel is located perfectly within a stones throw of Cathedral with very easy access to all local tourist attractions for those of you visiting this beautiful part of the world for the first time. Thanks guys for an amazing stay, look forward to seeing you already in January.

Beautiful little pub, fair priced, very polite staff and felt very safe in regards to covid. Me and the mrs had 3 courses with drinks and the bill was £60 something which is phenomenal. I had the whitebait to start, the pie for main and a cheese board. All really tasty. The mrs had soup, sausage & mash, and a sticky toffee pudding which she said were all really tasty. My only regret is I haven't tried this pub sooner!

A weekend away from home in the current pandemic could have been a bad idea. We thought long & hard about whether we should, and in the end decided that so long as we followed all the guidelines and stayed somewhere that would do the same then it would be worth it. A boy are we glad we did. This place is a true gem. The room was spacious and comfortable, the food in the restaurant was excellent quality, the staff were friendly, efficient, attentive, and fully on top of the situation with regard to social distancing etc. We felt welcome and safe and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We WILL be back in the future.

My wife and I had a lovely 2 night stay at The Black a Moor Inn. The stay was made even better by the friendliness of Rob -the barman, who seemed to be the lynch pin of the place! We shall not leave it another 15 years until we return.

We stayed for the night in the Inn and enjoyed an evening meal and the breakfast. The room was alright, clean enough, but nothing crazy. Meals were both very tasty and plentiful, the service was fast. Would be happy to stay here again.

Had Sunday lunch at the blackamoor with Sunday lunch worst I’ve ever had the beef was that tough offered me outside,a teaspoon full of mash potato one bulb of broccoli one Yorkshire pudding and some of the veg which I couldn’t identify for the grand price of £13 what a rip-off.The chef at this place should take a trip to the Jolly sailor on the Whitby moor road and see how their Sunday lunch is done property This place is a complete rip-off on food high price Small portions

They know how to look after our two legged friends too! The setting is wonderful, lovely views across open farmland to the rear from the beer garden.Inside there's a cozy warm log log fire to stretch out in front of.The staff are really thoughtful, kind and courteous.Impeccably clean and beautifully decorated throughout.The food is fantastic, as is the selection of real ale, wine and gins - or so my two legged friends tell me!Well worth a visit. Do not pass this wonderful place!

We had the excellent lunch menu which is unusual .Fish finger sandwiches with homemade curry cauliflower soup. It actually was 2 tasty fish fillets in batter and they were moist and tasty. The soup was an excellent addition and complimented the sandwich.The other sandwiches were cold beef and hot turkey with fries.With drinks it was £ 25 per couple.Excellent in nice surroundings and very friendly staff.

Looking forward to a few nights stay but unfortunately wasn't up to my expectations. The room was lovely but wasn't as clean as it should have been under the current circumstances. (The draw had an empty sweetie packet in from previous guests). We had dinner there on two occasions, the first night was acceptable however the second was terrible, we waited half an hour for a menu, then over half an hour for one starter, by the time the mains arrived we had waited well over an hour, we even asked the waitress where our meals were? The steak was very good, however the peppercorn sauce was like water, and when asked for desserts it was far too late to eat them, not sure if I would return, the breakfast was pretty bad too, the bacon and black pudding were over cooked and dry, however the poached eggs was delicious. Under the current situation buffet food should not be available and be brought to your table as required, but here it was available for all guests to help themselves. Some details need attention in my opinion during the current situation, might be being too picky.

We booked this fir our anniversary meal everything was absolutely fabulous our friends asked fir something off menu and they got it. The staff were lovely and would recommend this place any time . The bar was cosy and restaurant well laid out and nicely lit. Thank you to the staff and chef fir making our evening.

Covid has hit but so safe. Food top value and wanted a starter the didn’t make but Chief did it. Staff were fantastic helpful and again FOOD TOP NOTCH

Visited for lunch with friends. Food was well presented. Home made soup was excellent as was the whitebait. We all had steaks with chunky chips. Great.Staff very attentive, nothing was too much trouble. Very diligent as far as sterilising everything, but not to the extent that you feel uncomfortable just safe.Been before and will go again.

Travelled up from London and luckily we found this gem of a place. Atmosphere was really nice, good variety of menu, staff was very efficient and friendly. Decor was cozy but stylish and the food was delicious! We will definitely be coming back. Thank you for a lovely evening!

Felt good about this place and social distancing. The bar staff were pleasant helpful and respectful. The bar menu was good and the sandwiches really fresh and tasty with excellent side portions of chips. Good real ales. Would dine there again next time I'm in the area.

Since the end of lockdown I’ve found myself having lunch in The Blackamoor about 5 times a week. There’s a few reasons for this, but I must admit I’ve become addicted to the whitebait that they serve which is excellent. I did have the seafood pizza the other day which I said at the time is as good as any pizza I’ve had anywhere. This place is always busy and with good reason.

Great food and service - one of the best food pubs in the area. We visited a few times now and always been impressed with the presentation and flavour of the food. The service is unobtrusive and friendly. We will definitely be back and would recommend to others
