Expensive for what you get, disappointing

Looking at the small box, I was a little worried, but they packed it with well-cooked, top quality ingredients. Tender beef, tasty stuffing, roasties, tender broccoli, carrots, parsnips, Yorkshire pud, and gravy. Just what I wanted.

Staff were very attentive and accommodative of me and my partner when we came for a late lunch Burger was great. Steak was great.

Just had an amazing roast dinner, can’t fault it, very tasty and plenty of meat and veg. Definitely be back.

I went to this bar on Monday 24/11. It had lovely staff. I am diabetic and have a stomach issue. My husband and I order dinner. I had the vegan sausage kids meal. Which was nice. We decided it was nice enough to go back on Wednesday 26/11. Totally different experience I was refused a kids meal, loudly across the bar so that every one could hear! I couldn’t understand why since I had been served a kids meal two days prior. The young lady just kept saying “out of my hands this is a management thing” it was very awkward and uncomfortable for me. I cannot hardly eat a kids meal and I have to keep control of my diabetes. I was pretty embarrassed that she was say it so loudly as well as annoyed that I was going to have to pay for a full meal. Even the other patrons who heard he refusing me a kids meal got involved. They were all pretty verbal in how I couldn’t possibly order a kids meal. I have never come across an establishment in this day and age that refuses to serve an adult a kids meal! Especially an adult that told the young girl that I had stomach problems and I was diabetic. How rude, inconsiderate and poor customer! I ate 1/4 of a vegan burger that I paid whatever for and a few chips. Outrageous! When I asked for Prosecco my Australian accent pronounces it proschetto but she just kept saying loudly over and over again “we don’t have that drink what do you mean?” It was OBVIOUS What drink I required. She was that rude that another patron said to her “This lady obviously means Prosecco” To add to this, the young women sat with a group of young men watching the football most of the night. If I were the owner I wouldn’t want to be paying a woman this rude and who slumped around all evening with what looked like her friends! This was in total contrast to the Staff on the Monday night who were kind, attentive and considerate.

Excellent food, a small portion size for the price but food was delicious.

Visited this place for Sunday roast with the family with high expectations. Unfortunately these weren’t met. Staff were very friendly but the food we received was not great. Dry, fatty & chewy beef and the accompaniments looked reheated and tasteless. Won’t be coming back!

Not what I expected, but I was so impressed with the decor and welcome. The staff were top notch with the service and making sure all was super for us. The food matched expectations - it was amazing! We will be definitely eating there again, and again.

Had a roast here 2 weeks ago on the spur of the moment. The chicken was excellent as were the roast vegetables. Homemade Yorkshire pudding best I have ever eaten. Delicious gravy. Roast pork with proper crackling looked amazing and was v popular with others eating there. Service very friendly and efficient. Perfect sized portions. I dislike overfilled plates. Puddings looked very tempting but I was too nicely full. Good selection of nice quality wines and well kept beers. Varied Cocktails also available and appear popular and are carefully prepared by bar staff.

On 23 April 2023 I visited the pub and was present when a hate crime was committed by two roofers who were staying at the hotel above the pub. When it happened, I stayed with another regular, Ian, to ensure the two female staff (I and P) were safe. I reported the incident to one of the owners, Fiona the following day, who said it was my fault because I stood up to hate speech towards people of colour and Muslims, which "riled up" the racists - to be honest I find hate of any sort disgusting and for Fiona to blame me for standing against it and looking after her staff makes her complicit to those hateful opinions. Yes, I told everyone about it and it's no surprise that others have the witnessed similar incidents, that I've been told about. I have now been harassed by other patrons because I stood against hate speech. From what I have seen on my visits, young staff are employed so that they can be controlled by the owners, who often berated them publicly Infront of patrons. I'm addition, from what I have witnessed on my visits and from what staff have told me, the quality of food is affected due to the owner's control over portion sizes and every other aspect of the kitchen.

The issue with the food and kitchen is the same as the pub - Fiona is controlling of every aspect and is unable to let the kitchen do what they need to do in order to produce good quality dishes and make a profit. If you have a look at the portion sizes for the price, there's no correlation - I had a roast for £14-16 and it was the size of a child's portion. The control and other issues are out of control. It's no wonder that they go through more chefs than plates they serve. It's sad to see what's going on because this place has a lot of potential, but Fiona won't let that happen. This is no reflection on the kitchen staff!

Lovely staff but over priced shocking food not sure how you can ruin a salad but I was sick if I could give 0 stars unfortunately I would apart from that it had a really nice garden and it’s nicely decorated but I wouldn’t recommend the food maybe our timing was wrong, sorry!

I ordered a breakfast for delivery, I waited near on an hour for my food and when I finally received it, it was saturated in grease the hash browns were over cooked, the fried egg was hard and crispy and the black pudding was solid you could knock someone out with it. I threw the breakfast in the bin it was hideous. Waste of money, i was looking forward to it too what a let down. Never ordering from here again.

Had poached eggs and avocado. Good service and food. Nice way to start the weekend thank you.

Brought me son here for his first Sunday lunch experience, safe to say it will be his last. They brought his fish and chips on a tray covered in split mayonnaise, he is allergic to eggs. To make matters worse, a drunken man stumbled in and fell over near us, staff did nothing to contain him. I now have to deal with a traumatized child. The glasses were slightly mouldy and the our waiter had a concerning hygiene problem. Do not come here if you value your life and safety Cheers.

service was obliging snd pleasant but very very slow. We were the only ones in the restaurant so that is why we gave 2 for atmosphere.

Five of us met up for a pub lunch in Lancing on Saturday 8th April. We visited two pubs before we found this great place. A warm welcome, Harvey's beer and a free table! Friendly staff and good menu. The hake and chips were delicious and large portions and all the other meals were thoroughly enjoyed. The tables were all covered in real, white table linen. An impressive touch! We complimented the chef and all the staff. What a find! It was extremely busy in the kitchen and we were warned we would have to wait to order but it was only a ten minute wait and everything was just perfect for us. Well done. We have no hesitation in recommending this pub to anyone for a delicious meal of excellent quality and at excellent prices. Thank you.

My mum and I came today. We have been here a few times, wether it be for lunch or party. The publications are always friendly including their dog rocky. We came today for lunch, and as expected. Gorgeous.

The service was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The fries were beautifully cooked. The meal presentation was nice. The food was fresh. It is also fantastic dogs are allowed as it is so close to the green.

First visit this year for a Sunday Roast. Got the usual warm welcome from Fiona. We hadn't booked but Fiona found us a table with a reasonable waiting time. The roast gammon meal was delicious. We stayed afterwards for drinks . Would definitely recommend for a nice Sunday dinner in a comfortable relaxed atmosphere.

There was 6 of us meeting for a family lunch. We all had a different flavour roast. Each one was exceptional. I have eaten at this restaurant a few times before and the food and service has always been first class. Bravo to the team

Had a lovely dinner booked nice food , great desserts !! drinks and very helpful staff Lovely pub- restaurant and decorated!! And the owners have the friendly white dog 🐶. Nice walk to the restaurant on the sea front

We have just had a lovely Sunday afternoon lunch at The Bistro Bar in The New Sussex Hotel, in Lancing. Really nice food , home cooked, and good service. They were very busy , which was good , as service wasn’t too rushed , so we had time to chat and catch up. Plenty of room between tables. My roast was delicious. They have a lovely big garden for the summer, The prices were very reasonable, we all said we would definitely eat there again. All in all a great afternoon.

Obliging staff. Nothing too much trouble. Interesting menu and freshly cooked food. Pleasant clean surrounds and facilities. Defo on our "return to"list. A real find. Thankyou.

We have been going here for a couple of years now and the food just gets better and better. The service is amazing and staff are so friendly and welcoming. The prices of the food is very reasonable for what you get and we love going here as you can literally go for a stroll along the beach before and then get cosy by the fire with a drink and something to eat!! Be sure to visit and give this place a try ❤️❤️

Stumbled across this Bistro Bar and Garden at lunchtime today, couldn’t get in where we planned to go and I am so glad we couldn’t as we found this little gem. My family and I had a lovely lunch here, great menu with lots of variety and tasted great too. We really enjoyed it. The staff were really welcoming and very friendly. We will certainly be going back.

Favourite pub in lancing with great food and great service. Owners have their dog at the restaurant and if you’re lucky he’ll say hello!

Great service & roast, although vegetables could have been cooked a tad longer especially parsnips roasted. Maybe give options for a vegan choice...ie the pepper or a nutroast? Partner & daughter didn't like the stuff pepper.

Disappointed in description of burger said… cheese, red onion and burger sauce We got cheese, tomatoes and lettuce with mayo!?!? A very disappointed son

The missing one sausage off the order, the vegan breakfast was supplied with dairy butter which had soaked through the bag and coated the bread, and I'm not convinced the sausages were vegan when tasting it.

Food was horrible 😫 I ordered a English breakfast but I don't receive all missing tomatoes and mushrooms .very disappointed

Amazing fresh food, arrived hot and tasted delicious, will 100% reorder again and recommend 🤩
