Amsterdam Inn Shoreham in Adur

I took my Uncle out for lunch on Monday. He had a ribeye steak which he ordered rare, apparently it wasn't and it took him over an hour to eat it as it seemed quite tough in parts. There was a couple of veggie dishes unavailable so I had pumpkin ravioli which was warm and rather disappointing with a mushy inside and very chewy mushrooms. Sweet potato chips and salad were fine. The main guy behind the bar was friendly and helpful and turned the music down so we could hear my Uncle ok, the other staff also pleasant. Shame about the food.

I had what purported to be a Sunday roast.It was so bland.. Pre-cooked frozen roast potatoes ,re -heated .Pre-sliced bought in turkey re heated. You definitely need Gordon Ramsay‘s help here..You probably get away with it because the local people do not have a discerning pallet.

We arrived as a group of 8, that had reserved a table. The welcome was so warm and friendly, honestly Lily was lovely. We were early but our table was ready for us. The food was served promptly and everyone throughly enjoyed there meal. The roast dinner was delicious the meat melted in your mouth. Nothing was too much trouble, the young man who served us was so lovely, the staff, were a credit to Stonegate. The pub was lovely. The toilets were clean and tidy. I would definitely recommend this pub.

Last Friday in the month singing 7:00 p.m. and on to when it finishes each group has a turn and then finishes

The service was a tad slow and one or two of the staff looked like they didn't really want to be there to be honest

Great service at the bar, really friendly staff. Good selection of ales aswell, nice to see the longman brewery in there. Really enjoyed our food too. Will be back.

Came in for a few drinks and the staff were very pleasant and friendly. Guinness was very nice. Decided on a few small plates to eat which came out quickly and looked very appetising. Overall, great pub, warm welcome and even a nice goodbye from short young man behind the bar (manager I think?) Will definatly come again.

We had a 60th Wedding Anniversary party here last week and it was everything we hoped it would be and our 40 guests had a great time. Pete and Sue

My wife and l stopped here for a meal on the 4th April 2025. What a mistake l ordered a Ribeye steak medium grilled. It came up burnt to a cinder and was uneatable. I complained to the waitress and got no reply just a blank look. Customer service was very poor with no communication at all. I would not recommend this eating place to anybody

A lovely pub and since their refurb a few years ago it's got better & better. The Lamb shank is a firm fave. The food is good & well presented by great staff. Tom is the man to see behind the bar, always happy and pulls a great Beavertown 👌🏻 good work guys

Early visit for breakfast after our walk. Obviously very quiet. Before we arrived. Decent small breakfast, plenty of choice for everyone, although mine was a bit cold. On a cold plate. Others were piping hot, but there was 10 of us. Lovely pot of tea.

A second visit to this Stonegate Inn this time on a quiet Wednesday lunchtime. Apart from one other we were the only customers. Clean and pleasant and the bar staff were attentive. Unfortunately a couple of menu items were unavailable but the sea bass that we both had was good. I was impressed that the barman pulled my pint of Landlord but change d it before I had chance to complain - end of the barrel. The replacement Proper Job was very good . Plus mark for the staff.

Food was lovely bit expensive but worth it just a shame the service was soooo bad. I went with my nan, and a young male waiter was very rude. No politness, very rushy, and eye rolled and made a comment when she struggled with the card machine. Should’ve had more patience and better manners.

My family where very rude to the staff here on new years complaining that the food wasn’t quick enough and despite my family’s passive aggressive behaviour the staff were incredibly polite, the food was lovely I had the hunters chicken which tasted fantastic. Highly recommend this the atmosphere was lovely and the location is very scenic.

Wow - what lovely Heritage Inns place THIS is. It's really well presented inside and out. I was greeted by a fantastically friendly couple of people behind the bar. I had an IPA, but there was a decent range of other things, too. Albion games on TV. Lots of other football on TV! Pool table. Darts. A great looking food menu. Nothing lacking as far as I can see. I also saw a high chair and dogs, so that would suit people who are dogged or childed.

Shocking is all I can say ...Table booked for 1pm, had drinks and starters .Lovely ,couldn't fault them. Then waited hour and half for our mains..No explanation unless asked ,3 times it was questioned . Apparently they were 1 person hadn't shown for work ???? When food eventually came out , absolutely disgusting and disappointed to say the least. Wasn't hot , looked awful , literally what looked like the last dregs of chips from the fryer. Pork belly looked undercooked and wasn't hot at all , the 2 burgers were not nice at all . Again no one asked if everything was OK, We did not eat the mains because they basically were not edible. Such a shame because what was ment to be a lovely lunch out to start the new year ,wasn't. A massive let down . I will say I was impressed with how the bar staff/ manager dealt with the complaint and how it was resolved..

Nice pub. Dog friendly and pleasant staff. Bit lacking in atmosphere. The food is OK for a chain. Mostly pub grub but good value. We have had a couple of bad dishes there but the staff have always been quick to put things right.

I visited The Amsterdam Inn on Saturday 14 December with family for our pre Christmas festive get to together. Our party consisted of 25 people and we were all pleasantly surprised at the setting, the food quality, serving times and the service we received from the staff. We had the back room which was decorated in style for Christmas and was very cosy. The staff went out of their way to accommodate everybody’s needs and to ensure we were having a great time. Nothing was too much for them. We had the pleasure of meeting Chloe, Drew and Tom (A) who made our evening so enjoyable. They worked flat out all evening and we thank them so much for their efforts. What a team. We would highly recommend a visit.

Had a Turkey Roast and it was fantastic,and great value for money. Good atmosphere and excellent service. Thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Had a nice meal here with my wife, Chloe looked after us, welcoming and friendly.

Visited yesterday and on arrival we were informed of a new menu. The service was great from the manager chloe and the team looked after us during our visit. The food was delicious and we will be back

Was there for a 70th Bday bash. Buffet was excellent, great selection, quality, and quantity. The Sunday toast menu looked good.

Been a few times, quizzes, birthdays and just a nice meal out. Really lovely pub.

Great dog friendly place with pub games and dog treats / food

We went Saturday 26th October at lunchtime and had the ribeye steak cooked by Mark to perfection. Would definitely recommend the Amsterdam.

I came to Amsterdam with my family last Sunday and what a nice surprise it was. The food was amazing. It was nice presented and tasty. The service from Chloe was top-notch. Overall a very nice experience. We would come back on a different occasion.

Oh dear. Visited twice in about 20 years and happy to leave it another few decades. How is it that somewhere like this survived the biggest crisis to hit the hospitality industry in a century when some of the loveliest, friendliest little pubs & cafes have gone for good.? It's been given a facelift between my two visits, (they've gone for gastro riverside grand cafe now), but its still the sort of place where you're made to feel unwelcome & needy for ordering a coffee with a non dairy creamer, (they only have soya). Two stars because they're dog friendly at least, but that's most likely due to the fact they'd lose 50% of their daytime trade if not as the river is a great walk, lots of wildlife. Do remember to take your own water & dogbowl to this venue tho as they don't have any put out, and despite requesting one from two members of staff, nothing arrived. Keep an eye on the staff tho, as they'll happily feed your dog tough chewy treats without checking if they're inappropriate for their diet. Other than that, it's great.! Update OCT 2024 : Added some details re food and service after another visit, no need to change the previous paragraph tho. 😁 So, three stars for food because it tasted good and was enough for me, but I was lucky, the first to be brought out, other people's food arrived after I'd already finished, hence the two stars for service. There was also some items missing from the meal which were listed on the menu. We complained about this but, no discount was offered, and the food is really not worth the money they charged. Also, parking is an issue, even with two car parking areas. How this place keeps going is beyond me.! 😞

Really friendly bar staff and the steak sandwich was the best I’ve had in years!

Good pub food and good size portions. You have to order at the bar and food is brought to you, but helpful if you need anything. Only problem was a gammon steak that wasn't cooked through, but asked to cook it through some more rather than have another one cooked. Atmosphere good if you like watching the TV and there is a pool table.

Had a fantastic experience over the weekend despite the pub very busy. The service was exceptional especially from Chloe. Perfect location for a relaxing lunch on my doorstep as ignored for too long. I will be back.

Nice calm, family feel. Service was ok - we were left with dirty plates for quite sometime. It’s only when we went to the bar to order pudding that our dinner plates and empty glasses were cleared but everyone was very friendly. Food took a little while to arrive and was mediocre at best; mashed potato was anything but creamy, parsnips missing, roasties weren’t crispy and yorkshires were flat and tasteless! It deffo wasn’t worth the price tag. We wouldn’t hurry back.

Great spot for a meal and a few pints

Me and the Mrs had a lovely afternoon here, we also got our dog Boss (German Shepherd/Rottweiler) a Roast Dinner dog bowl, Bark burger and a Paw star martini which he loved! Thank you guys!

Chloe provided lovely service, I would recommend toasting the bread but otherwise food was nice.

I went to a private party the food was beautiful and lovely atmosphere

Food lovely. Atmosphere was fine until a kitchen member of staff came out and chastised the member of staff in front of the customers, without knowing that the young man was. busy waiting on tables and running around cleaning and seeing to customers. We did asked the young man if he was ok after being publicly spoke to in an uncalled tone. Disabled toilet with baby changing needed a good clean.

First time I ventured into this establishment. Nice food, accommodating staff, relaxed atmosphere. I really enjoyed myself. I tell you, comes highly recommended.

Nice place nice staff but ordered 2 ribeye steaks both medium well but one wasn't cooked ..the waiter knew and said shall I take it back ..i tried it and it wasn't right..he tool it back then i had to wait quite awhile before my meal came back ..slightly spolit the meal really but will give it another go

Dog friendly!!!! I use to go to this place years ago!! And so much has changed for the better!! Looks so cosy inside definitely love what they've done with the place. Thought I would take the family there for a nice Easter roast 😋😋😋 definitely recommend!! They are totally dog friendly and lovely coming to feed the doggies some treats!!! 🐶🐾 The food was so delicious 😋 will definitely be back. The only thing I think would be a great change would be table service as it's such a nice place. And would also benefit the lovely staff to earn extra in tips but that does not affect my 5/5 rating because this place is amazing. Has a pool table and darts too with a lovely garden to enjoy the sun (when it comes out!!)

A great community pub in a lovely location next to the river. Great to come in for a pint of ale from the excellent selection after a long walk with the dog (the pub is very dog friendly) and to stock up on the reasonably priced and tasty food available. The staff are lovely and the pub has a nice cosy atmosphere.

We booked a table for 12 people, we all ordered per family at the bar but under the same table number. 2 of our table didn't receive their food but their daughter had received her food order, we asked several times where the food was and we were told they were busy, there was only one other table in the dining area with us that already had their food! It took over an hour for their food to arrive which everyone else had finished in the mean time! The food wasn't that great my husband had the triple roast which didn't have any pork just crackling.

We have had several meals here and have been quite happy with the value of the pub food

Came here for mothers day dinner with 5 adults and 4 kids. To start pur table wasn't ready upon arrival even though we'd booked, I then got ignored at the bar due to it being short staffed. Our food took a long time to arrive and the roasts were terrible, hardly any vegetables, potatoes were soggy and the meat was terrible quality. We were given no knives and forks and had to ask numerous times for these and eventually got them ourselfs. No sauces were offered and had to ask numerous times for these too. Desserts took ages to come out. The while place was heavily understaffed even though it was mother's day and they knew how many bookings they had. All tables around us were complaining of the poor quality and service. The manager spoke to us but was very abrupt and rude and didn't consider any of our views. The whole place was a shambles and we will not be returning.

I belong to an organisation that meets at the Amsterdam once a month. This also involves a meal so over the last year I been exposed to most/all of the menu. And I have to say it’s just shocking, on our last visit 2 steaks that were requested rare but came to the table cremated, fish and chips was cold, the presentation of the hunter chicken looked like road kill. The time before I had ordered the chicken pie unfortunately it was inedible. Also on that visit 2 people in our group had ordered moules again these were returned to the kitchen and the list goes on and on. I now point blankly refuse to eat at this pub. Also the service is shockingly slow and haphazard. Unfortunately the service from behind the bar is also a joke. Many thanks for your reply. I will not contact you directly but I will repost and edit my review after my next two visits. Hopefully the food quality and bar service will be improved.

We had a table of 8 for mothers day. The roasts were awful. Food was overcooked, roast potatoes soggy, 1 parsnip, 1 carrot and a very roapy broccoli, 1 slither of rock hard crackling. Service was slow and cutlery came after food was served. My daughter was ignored at the bar and gave up on drinks.

Popped in for a light lunch ,enjoyed chicken and chorizo, and scampi and chips .both really tasty and great value for money. What a nice pub lovely family atmosphere,dog friendly,lovely place . Just two things parking not good ,and ladies toilets ,the toilet seats leave a lot to be desired, either be prepared to squat or have a good sense of balance. They were very clean and tidy . All in all a good visit look forward to visiting again .

This is a lovely pub found totally by accident. Very tastefully decorated. The girl, Serena that attended to us was very helpful and friendly as was the young lad on with her at the time. Would highly recommend

Came here for Sunday lunch the other day. The majority of my family had a roast dinner. Now the food wasn’t bad but definitely mediocre, the presentation on the plate wasn’t great either and the gravy had already been poured on the meals which I thought was odd. Generally people like to add their own. I opted for the 3 meats roast dinner. My piece of beef was practically see through and I think we had all been given the crumbs from the bottom of the pan for the stuffing, menu said it came with crackling as well, but all we got given was the thinnest piece of crackling known to man and mine wasn’t even particularly crispy, it had gotten wet from the gravy that had been pre poured on my meal though . You can have as many Yorkshire puddings as you like which is a nice touch and the staff are friendly and approachable. Probably wouldn’t be back in a hurry though.

Asked for two bowls of chips and a cheesy garlic bread. Got cheesy chips which when said i'm so sorry but we didn't order were just given dirty looks and told they could take them back. In the end we kept them as to not cause an inconvenience. Cheesy garlic bread was mediocre with hardly any cheese despite the extra charge, was very burnt and inedible around the edges. Tops of the chips were also burnt where it had been under the grill. Portions were tiny for the price and drinks were very expensive. Got dirty looks from one of the staff members throughout our whole meal

Sunday lunch for a party of 4 adults and 1 toddler. The Roasts were good, though the presentation was only average but it was all well-cooked and the kid’s roast went down really well. Desserts were delicious, the signature sticky toffee pudding was very nice.

Nice pub, food was good, location is great, plenty of parking available… but £3.70 for a Diet Coke is absolute daylight robbery!

Only went for last orders but sells beer and I didn't know that it had a pool table which was a massive bonus and pool table area is raised to the rear of the pub though I didn't go out there it looked like they had some kind of outside space as well, so beer and pool,somewhere to smoke I didn't eat there or see a menu but if they had chicken wings on there menu I would give them a 5 star.

always a good time here. the staff are the friendliest and I am always made to feel welcome. I think this has to be the best pub in shoreham

Amazing day, our first Christmas spent with us not cooking and I can't praise the staff enough. The food, atmosphere and service were spot on. Thank you for making our Christmas a special Christmas . The staff wrre exceptional.🎄

Awful food, don't take my word for it, go and pay for their over priced food and then kick yourselves for wasting your money.

Had a lovely meal tonight delicious and I must say the desserts were exceptionally good, staff were very friendly and helpful and welcomed us in with our dog, Matt went above and beyond what we expected great job. The ambiance in the pub was perfect a lovely roaring fire is what you want to see on a cold winters day very cosy and warm, pool table takes card aswell which was handy as who carries cash these days. Great selection of beers, drinks and snacks. great gardens for the smokers and vapers aswell Overall a great pub for families or anyone wanting some great food and drink in a friendly environment big thumbs up 👍
