The Bengal At The Clothiers Arms in Kirklees

Popped in for dinner whilst in the area for work. We didn't have a booking but space was available. It was pretty busy for a Tuesday night. Poppadoms and chutneys were served and were good and served quickly along with draught Kingfisher. The main course of Veg Thali was really good. The mix of rice, alloo and saag dishes along with a naan, bhaji and superb chickpea curry made for a very filling meal. The waiters were friendly and service was efficient. They also kindly booked a cab for us to get back to our hotel.

The food here was excellent. The staff were good fun and helpful. I had a chicken Tikka main with a sauce on the side which was delicious and a side of rice.

The Best Indian Restaurant in the Holme Valley! It’s a little off the beaten track but the effort is well worth it! The dishes are cooked to order and the staff are keen to help and advise on the various dishes available. The portion sizes are large and you can also get a decent pint in the adjoining pub so what’s not to like? Give it a try and I’m sure you won’t go elsewhere once you have!

Very fresh and lighter food, the pus next door to have a drink while your takeaway it being cooked, or sit in for a great meal.

We have been coming here for years and our most recent takeaway did not disappoint! Brilliant, friendly service upon collection with a socially-distanced queue - we will be back!

We visit here frequently for both take out and sitting in and it never fails to disappoint, don’t be out off by it being in the back of pub because the food is superb and beats every other curry house in the area

Take out Saturday 27 July 2019 very poor - tasteless samosa starters and lamb curry. Very disappointed.

We love this Indian restaurant and go regularly We’ve tried a lot of dishes on the menu and my personal favourite is the chom chom Balti, sons is mushroom methi, husbands is Bisnathi keema Bhuna. The mix platters are really great to share for a starter. Favourite is the mix platter for 2 £7.90 The lamb chops are really delish. It’s great to support a local village pub (they supply the drinks), and a restaurant in one building The takeaway service is also excellent. The portion sizes are very generous! Usually ready in 30 mins as cooked freshly.

We just love the curries here! They’re so good and we’ve found it’s the best curry place in holmfirth! Staff are friendly too and is great value for money.

Just moved to the area to find this super resteraunt and takeaway. We have eaten in and out and can’t fault the food and service, All excellent. A perk to the area indeed and our new go to.

Just moved to Holmfirth and went up to Clothiers pub, the restaurant fitted us in although it was getting busy, food was excellent!!! Tasted really fresh,, they didn't rush us, and it soon got busy, not surprised a very popular place, we will definitely make it our local, it was first time for our friends also and can't wait to go back, staff friendly, well worth a visit.

The food here is very good and would recommend it highly they cook everything from fresh to your liking and they have also gone that extra mile putting a slight twist to it you have to try it.

The new Bengal is an excellent Indian with a great selection of different curries as well as the usual standards. This was out third visit and there appears to be something new every time we go. Never disappoints and they do takeaways

Got a take away from here not long ago and wasn’t too impressed and had an upset stomach the next day. The guys in the place were really friendly and helpful hence I’m not giving it a 1 star. It is an extremely competitive area for Asian cuisine and chefs can’t really afford to be having a bad day with restaurants like Blue Tiger up the road at Honley. Won’t be trying again.

Regularly eat in and get a takeaway from the new bengal. I love the saag paneer here and my partner always has bengal murgh special and says it’s amazing! All the staff are really helpful and friendly too and It’s good value for money.

The meal at the New Bengal was as good as everyone told us it would be and the staff were pleasant and most helpful. My one tiny niggle (causing a four star rating instead of five) was that the tables were all bare with no table cloths or other ornamentation (serviettes, place mats ect).

We visit the Bengal at the Clothiers often. As a family it's a frequent Friday evening meal for 6/8 of us. Menu is really varied and they will cater for different tastes etc. Staff are really lovely. It's a smallish venue so if you are a large party, book ahead. They do not do a takeaway delivery, but you can collect. It is a good option as the quality of the food isn't diluted. Great local.

Aunque afiliado a gran hermano de Bengala Spice en el menú Holmfirth, es muy diferente. Hay algunos que saben curries inusualmente llamado increíble. El personal es atento, eficiente y atento. Bien merece una visita.

The Bengal caters for every taste. The curries are full of flavour. I would recommend it to anyone. They cater for groups, parties or couples. Everyone receives good service.

Visited late one weekday evening with two young children after a late night at work. Happy to accommodate us. Lovely relaxed meal and the food was divine! Wanted a return trip every night since! Thank you xx

Impeccable service and the dishes are out of this world! If you like Indian cuisine like myself, this is the place. Easily the best curry spot in Holmfirth.

when my friend said ,come have an Indian in the clothiers at Netherthong I thought it would be strange sat in a bar eating an Indian. but from walking in to the pub you actually go through another door and you feel you are in a nicely decorated modern Indian restaurant.

Este es un excelente restaurante indio dentro de un pub tradicional de Yorkshire y puedes pedir ale desde el bar. Tenemos una para llevar al menos una vez a la semana y ocasionalmente. Para bajar la comida para llevar es una buena excusa para una pinta. Cuando la comida está lista se lo llevan. En el bar. Los precios son muy razonables y hay buenas ofertas a diario.

Fui pensando que sería similar al de Bengala Spice, ya que es en Holmfirth gestionado por la misma familia. Sin embargo, están tratando de ser diferente, con un menú diferente y cómo extraño tener su curry servida en un plato de postre, donde su única opción es poner su arroz en la parte superior de la comida principal. Nos dimos cuenta de que no estaba demasiado lleno para un sábado por la noche con sentarse o tomar comidas escapadas. Teníamos comidas diferentes (el menú era limitado), pero me pareció que ambos tan dulce y lleno de azúcar no podíamos terminadas. La cantidad de carne fue escaso y dejamos todo la salsa. No podría criticar el personal son excelentes y es un buen lugar para ir si quieres una bebida en el pub y tomarse unas copas y comer en el mismo edificio cuando esté listo.

We always have fantastic food here. The service is excellent and the staff are very friendly and efficient. One of the best Indian Restaurants around.

As locals we visit here often. Great atmosphere and staff who are very attentive and friendly. Excellent food to eat in and take away. Each dish we've tried has never failed to impress. It's only a small place which is great for intimacy and, so, I'd recommend booking. I had a birthday party here once and they allowed me to practically book the place out - I couldn't speak highly enough of the Bengal.

Brilliant food and helpful staff, chicken tikka is our favourite. Great atmosphere and usually quick to serve unless really busy times. Definitely worth a visit.

We go here once a week and the food is always great, the lamb is amazing. The staff always attentive and friendly.

Ate here last night with friends, Had the usual warm and friendly welcome from Maz. Food was excellent as always, lots of different dishes to try. Service as always friendly and efficient. Only a small restaurant so recommend you book, we went on a Wednesday and it was really busy. Nice pub to have a drink or two in first before you wander you through for your curry. Whichever Bengal you choose, this one or the Holmfirth one you won't be disappointed. Steve and Nicky.

my husband and i ate here on a saturday night, we were advised to book which we did. we had an excellent table near the window, the food was superb and we were not rushed. will def be going there again

We always get a warm welcome every time we visit, we have never booked and they always accomodate us.We expect and receive the same high quality food and have never been disappointed, our favourites are Lamb Chuchi Chuchi and Mr Naga, however it doesn't matter what you choose its great food. If you ask they will always make to your taste and strength, they will always go the extra mile.

Called for the mid week deal , a few drinks in the cozy bar then through for a superb curry in a lovely little restaurant one of the best currys I've had , loved it

A few convivial drinks with a friend in the adjoining Clothiers arms was nicely finished off with an excellent Curry and sides.Ordered whilst we were having a drink for 20:00.Food was fantastic, Staff friendly & Helpful.BRILLIANT

I visit this restaurant on a regular basis - average twice a month since it opened for either an eat-in or take-away. In fact, I don't tend to visit any other Indian restaurant in the area any more, as this place is so good. I would recommend anyone who lives in, or visiting Holmfirth, to take the 3 minute/£3 taxi ride to Netherthong to dine here. Although it is related to the Bengal in the town centre, it is a different menu. Recently, the menu has expanded to enable you to choose fish with many of the dishes, which adds some variety to the usual chicken and lamb. Pricing is a little higher than normal, but it's worth it!The Clothiers next door provides the drinks, and is a nice little pub as well.

Have been here many times now and it never disappoints The food is really gorgeous, personal favs are lamb chops to start or the house mix, the fish starters are also yum and chom chom balti / lamb Kuchi Kuchi The naans are fantastic The drinks are normal pub prices so cheaper than a lot of restaurants. Can't recommend this place enough Service is brilliant and they also do fantastic takeaways. This and the cider press putting Netherthong on the culinary map!!

the Bengal restaurant is very friendly, excellent food,and a great atmosphere, I had the king prawn biryani which was very tasty. it is relatively small so it perhaps might be a good idea to book ahead.

Decided to try this restaurant out when we received a flyer posted through our door. The flyer has an offer of £11.90 printed on it which isn't very clear when the offer is available. We were expecting when we visited on Friday that this offer was available but this was not the case. However the food was good and so was the service. The restaurant isn't very well placed for parking, the roads are very narrow, we had to park quite a distance away and I wonder whether this could upset local residents.

Been a few times now & always excellent food at a reasonable price ....perfect ! Friends who've also been, say the same. So highly recommended.

The staff coped really well with our large party. We had 12 adults and 12 children on three tables. All food came table by table and was great! Really enjoyable evening in relaxed surroundings with very tasty and reasonably priced food. Will come again - we normally go to the Bengal spice in Holmfirth but this was a nice change.

Like it's 'Mamma' (Bengal Spice, Holmfirth), Bengal at the Clothiers is truly awesome, and you don't even have to leave the pub!! The food is unique in terms of taste and style, but retains that famous 'Bengal' quality. On our latest visit the manager was happy to cater for a group of 16 of us on a Saturday night (a considerable effort given that it's not the biggest place) and, as usual, a fabulous time was had by all. An outstanding restaurant with genuinely friendly staff.

Hidden gem, excellent choice & great value. A cconstant flow of both diners & takeaway customer's on a busy Friday night. The staff were friendly & gave recommendations as so much choice. Would definitely go back.

Had this place recommended by several people including two friends who were with us on the night, a group of 8. We all ordered a variety of starters and mains. All the food we received, apart from one mix up over a starter, was excellent. Non of our party was disappointed with any of their food.The only disappointment was the service. It was slow and when the mix up occurred they were very slow to understand the problem and correct it.However, I think all in our party would be willing to return as the food was excellent and was reasonably priced. It is the service that needs looking at.With the above reservations service it is a very good restaurant.

We visited this Restaurant not so long after finding out it was the same as the Bengal Spice in Holmfirth, and wow we were impressed. The service, the staff & food were all brilliant. Plenty of choices and dishes we had not seen before. BisnathiKimaBuna was a dish to die for, full of flavour and curry portions were huge. Nan breads were light and fluffy, pickle tray very unusual but very tasty. Highly recommended, we had a fab night.

We had two citrus and they were very runny and tasted of nothing, not impressed will stick to Honley Bay of Bengal had to try it but not a patch on Honley

We went to Bengal on the off-chance as it's always good to try somewhere new. The welcome was warm and the service excellent.We tried some dishes which were new to us, but the best of all was the daal which was outstanding - almost worthy of a meal on its own. We'd go back if only for more of that!!

This was my second visit, food was just to die for again, love the atmosphere of this small restaurant and so nice to be able to have a drink before and after our meal in the pub, staff really helpful and informative.... So glad this place is within walking distance, enjoy

Booked a table for four on Saturday 8th August and what a good choice. All tables full, service first class and food to die for. The added bonus is that the pub has a disco normally 1st Saturday in the month so we then spent the rest of the night in the bar. The landlord and landlady here also so friendly, the landlord made a special effort to make himself known to all new customers. All in all an excellent evening with the restaurant complimenting the pub and vice versa. Will definitely be returning in September and there`s now six of us wouldn`t be surprised if there`s even more on the night.

Ate here last night with friends, our 2nd visit and was just as good as the first visit. Food and service excellent and good value for money. Maz is happy to recommend and advise on which dishes to try. The Clothiers is also a lovely pub with friendly staff and good beers. Its a good format where you can have a few drinks then wander through to the restaurant. They also have a restaurant in Holmfirth, same standard there with food and service. Recommend you book for a weekend for either of them as they are both popular.

I've previously written a review about bengal spice at Dunford road saying how the service is always excellent. How the food is superb how the staff are friendly .Well I'm going to say exactly the same about the bengal at the clothiers .not only are the restaurant names the same but thankfully the food ,the service,and the staff are equally as good . Well worth a visit .

I was absolutely amazed at the standard of the food & the presentation at this restaurant , it was very unique in the way they serve the curries. Everything tasted of high quality, the Special Lamb Kuchii Kuchii was full of flavour and really juicy, the Cod Fish Maalay was one of the best fish dishes we had eaten in a long time. It was our first visit here on the 20th June & believe it or not this small restaurant was packed out. Maz who looked after us was really friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

Excellent from start to finish, very friendly & accommodating staff. The food was very very good, well presented & served in a timely manor but we weren't rushed. Good sized portions, good selection & staff willing to alter dishes as required.Restaurant clean & tidy & very welcoming.We shall return.

Really good quality food as ever from Bengal Spice. We normally use the Holmfirth restaurant but thought we would try the netherthong take out - will definitely be visiting the restaurant as we can walk home!!

I'm spoilt for choice as I live relatively close to both the Holmfirth restaurant and the one at The Clothiers Arms. There food never fails to amaze me. I went to The Clothiers on Saturday 13th June for the first. The food beautiful and very tasty. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. I can't wait for my next visit!

had various takeaway meals, food always to a high standard. Three of us went for a meal 13th June, greeted by Maz and his staff. The meal was excellent , the staff friendly and courteous. I think the concept of having the restaurant attached to the pub works well. Overall a very enjoyable experience. The only down side is that I am not now going to The Bengal Spice in Holmfirth due to the convenience of living a five minute walk away from The Clothiers.
