Didnt want our service as they were too busy to take orders over the phone even though this is our regular chippy and we are good customers we will be going somewhere else in future

We visited this spot last night during the storm bomb that was engulfing Cornwall. We were on our way to the spooky tour of Bodmin Jail. Anyway we had fantastic fish and chips cups of tea and delicious curry sauce all served by an attentive and very hard working staff! Who weren't phased one bit when the lights went out due to a power cut, they just carried on regardless whilst the owner fixed the fuses! Worth a visit - excellent quality!

Had a Steak and kidney pie and a Jumbo sausage and chips. The pie n chips was very nice my partner Jumbo sausage and chips said they enjoyed them. I would recommend to anyone visiting Bodmin have try you will enjoy them

What a rip off for such vile food soggy batter poor quality fish was uneatable will not be returning. Prices have gone up and quality gone down hill rapidly

Been thee a few times over the years, but my goodness has it got bad. Last 3 times we've been it was cold, under cooked chips, not at all nice. Pie was awful, fish was very greesy. Don't go.xxx

Went it today for a cod and chips and for £10 wasnt worth it chips where stone cold and the cod was soggy not even chrispy batter the chips tased like they had been sat for an hour before i ordered and to top it off there was a hair in my batter my sister had a burger which looked like it was cooked the day before and then was put in the microwave it was cold on the outside and not even warm on the inside what a f***ing joke. might have been a good chippy 10 years ago but not now the standerds have definitly slipped in the last few years i will not be going back and wouldnt recomend to anyone

Came here today. Food was great. Price was good. Service was great. The cook was gorgeous. Will definitely be back.

I ordered food (veggie burger and chips) and then asked if we could sit in as there were free tables. They said yes. Without offering a different (sit in) menu, I was charged 40-50% extra, once we had finished our food. Unclear, if not rather sneaky, it felt like we were ripped off. Disappointing. When I queried this, the chap shrugged his shoulders. The food was fine, albeit small portions (smaller than if we had taken out).

Lovely welcome from a young member of the team. Much prefer face to face than using a screen, but the screen is a very good system post COVID. Anyway, fresh food, team worked well together. My husband and I ordered cod bites with chips. These were so good; a previous review said they were cooked to perfection and they were. I mentioned this review to the gentleman and lady beside him and said we were looking forward to enjoying their food. Don't bother going anywhere else. Just eat here. It's clean and old fashioned and we loved it. We'll visit from Watford again and enjoy the sights and sounds of Bodmin again. We'll done team. You're hard work is reflected in your delicious food!!!

I visited on my trip to Cornwall once again. The place is still going and busy. It's handy for parking as they've got a few spaces of their own and a big pay and display car park within a stones throw of the place. I ordered large cod and chips, which I intended to eat in my car (seating is once again available in the shop if you wish to do this). The staff who took my order were smiling, helpful and it was all very quick. The food was ready to go about 5 minutes later and the chips were lovely and so was the cod and the batter it was in. Crispy, piping hot and I loved it. If you're in Bodmin, need a portion of cod and chips - this is the place to go (they sell other stuff too by the way).

Went there on 08/12/2021 opening time at 4pm had the haddock and chips on recommendation of my father who like me is a retired fisherman,the haddock was beautiful with a lovely light crisp batter,chips were ansome too.Nice portion size and reasonable prices,will definitely recommend to others as live close by in Padstow.Service quick and served with a smile x

I'm a west country guy, so i've eaten from plenty of chippies over the years. This was definitely one of the nicer ones. Lovely battered sausage and the chips were great, not too greasy and well salted. Quick service, and decent prices. Will keep this place in mind if I'm ever passing through Bodmin

Big order for 9 ppl. The order was missing an item so had to go back and collect what is missing by the time we got the missing item the rest was cold, our reply was sorry. Like that makes the food taste better (not)....

Order off the website for pick up between 7 and 7:10. Rang at 7 when we got there and the lady in the phone was very polite. Our food came out after a few minutes, piping hot which was great! Got back to our lodge...

Excellent food, prompt service and a classic "chippy" atmosphere. Having ordered the cod and chips, it became clear that it was fresh produce being used. The portion sizes were indeed generous and very reasonably priced. Will definitely go again!

Driving back to our holiday cottage from a visit to the Eden Project we struggled to find a take away anywhere...I guess that's rural Cornwall for you....but when we did eventually stumble across Bell Lane, we were not at all disappointed. Lovely chips, large portion and quick service.Highly recommended!

It's been a couple of years since we last visited and we again ate in.The "deals" were on and we both went for fish and chips with mushy peas. As part of the deal we could also have had bread and butter and a tea - we didn't bother with these.The fish, chips and peas were absolutely excellent. Everything was cooked to perfection.The waitress was very efficient too.No wonder the place was busy!!

Passing and the smell dragged me in and I wasn't disappointed. Best chippy in Cornwall.Added bonus they make their own fishcakes. Staff are really nice and the food is so yummy. You can take away or eat in.

Haven’t been here for a while, before we had takeout but this time sat in, good choices on the menu, we had the medium cod, chips, peas & bread n butter as a meal deal. Good size portion, freshly cooked, very tasty, not greasy & not to much batter, good value, clean n tidy restaurant, very friendly staff. Well worth a visit.

Just had haddock and chips and cod and chips takeaway. Both fish were exceptionally dry, plenty of batter but not much fish. Dry, tasteless even though they were cooked to order. Chips were poor, the side order of curry sauce was also bland.We started eating only five minutes after service so time wasn't a factor.Was originally asked for over £18 until I queried the price.Will never go there again, feel ripped off.

Hi again.Let me correct my review. It was 2 large fish as you stated It was 19.40p with 2 mushy peas and a bread cake. I didn't notice if eating in was more or less? However I did think it was expensive compared to Yorkshire?Can I just say that your response should have been...'Sorry yourexperience wasn't up to our usual standard' rather that you 'Absolutely REFUTE' my claim about the undercooked batter. I didn’t drive 360 miles to undermine your fish and chips. I did actually praise the quality of the fish...but I told no untruths about the batter. I always present fair and objective reviews on how I find things on the day. I wish the Bell Lane Fryer all the best.

How can you create great looking fish and chips that taste sooo bland?

We have been eating from here for many years and it’s Some of the best fish and chips in town. The service is very good with everything made fresh, and lovely people serving.

went last Friday and sat in , we were very pleased with the food, been a while since we had fish and chips anywhere, but we will go back to this one and felt happy with all of the cafe

I arrived about 45 minutes before the sign said they close so asked if it was still ok to sit in. The 2 waitresses looked at each other then the clock then grudgingly said yeah. I should have left then. The table service didn't happen so I went to the counter to order and was told they would come to me which eventually one did. Keep in mind that only one take away was served the entire time I was there so they weren't busy! Ordered cod and chips with mushy peas. Pretty sure it wasn't cod as the fish had black veins in it. Was square and watery. The batter was soggy, underneath it was wet. Food was pretty much thrown on the plate with mushy peas just spread over the chips and to cap it all off there was a hair on the chips. The staff couldn't be bothered. No one asked if everything was ok, they would have been told it wasnt. I just pushed it around the plate but couldn't stomach it so ate nothing. I also ordered a bottle of coke..I am 60 years old...they gave me the bottle and a plastic straw which they put down on the grubby table, surely they could stretch to a glass...avoid this chippy it's not cheap and the foods pretty much inedible.

Popped in randomly on a week night when they were due to close soon. Have been disappointed with many local chippies but couldn't complain about Bell Lane Fryer. Cheesy chips were lovely and actually cheesy! Generous portion of cod and had lovely batter. Sausages and fishcakes were nice. Friendly smiley staff. Prices weren't too bad. Would get takeaway again!

Yep, my local chippy, so not much to say. First class chips. Bodmin isn't really a late night town, so no stumbling out of the pub at closing time for a packet of chips, it'll be closed, so turn up when it is open! It has free parking outside for a few cars, plus the Stillmoor public carpark opposite is free after 4pm. Years ago, my dad used to get chips and faggots for me and my brother, not this chipshop, but another (they don't do them anymore). They do veggie burgers at Bell Lane, if you are a vegetarian like me. I am going to ask them to do trial run of say veggie haggis (a bit like faggots), yes I know Scotland, not Cornwall, but when I worked up there, we used to veggie haggis and chips in Georgetown, Dumfries, they were always popular.

Arrived when they were busy with takeaways for their regulars and I felt the 'waitress' service was lacking to start but the girl who did eventually serve me was pleasant enough.

I choose the Cornish hake and chips and of course a mug of tea.

Fast service and lovely food. Seemed very reasonable, too. Cod was a good size and large chips would feed three! Very impressed.

I’ve been here a couple of times this month. Both times been delightful with staff that are very polite and will do anything to accommodate and the food was outstanding.

We happened to be in Bodmin and having not visited the Bell Lane Fryer for years we decided to revisit. The restaurant seemed pretty busy and deciding on a takeaway thought there might be a delay but not the case. I was greeted by a friendly fryer and the fish was cooked to order and arrived very quickly. We had a cod and chips and just a cod which cost £10.80 which seemed very reasonably priced and turned out to be very tasty. Beautifully fresh fish and light batter and very good chips. Definitely got the thumbs up from us.

Was staying over in Bodmin and needed a quick meal - found this place - could eat in or take away - we chose to eat in and had the meal deal - i went for the fish & chips - the batter was lovely - crispy and melt in the mouth, chips a good portion size and food was piping hot. Aún deficiente raciones de patatas fritas a un alto costo, aún se me metían en tartas - nunca aprender? Y el pescado ha mejorado y sabía a pescado no masa. Todavía el arcaico uno sacar dinero, una clasificación de pescado y una empaquetadura y el director parece totalmente desinteresado, aparte de la elaboración de más patatas fritas sin ni siquiera tanto como una sonrisa. El comer en porciones también son pequeñas- miraba a 6 chips que se colocan en un plato y se sirve con una tarta - estafa. Creo que este es el último que vaya allí, pero agradecería una respuesta de la gerencia, por qué no dan relación calidad-precio y también WTF es este microwaving pastelería?

Pescado brillante y chuletas, pueden tener que hacer cola, pero eso es una buena señal de la calidad de este fish and chips. El personal es encantador, todos recién cocinado, lo recomiendo encarecidamente.

The restaurant scene in Bodmin is lacklustre, to say the least. The only dining options people in town have are Chinese, Indian, Kebab (all takeaways, mind you) and a few pubs here and there. Out of the chippies you'll find in Bodmin, this is the best. The food is fresh, the staff are friendly, the menu is varied, the kitchen appears to be clean, and there's even a small dining area which is quaint but practical. I've been here many times and have always been satisfied. Large portions, chunky chips, flaky batter...what more can you ask? Oh, and the haddock is a must (too many people go for cod but they're missing out in my opinion).

Went here while in Bodmin and it was right by the car park and we were so glad we did. Very friendly when we went in and the fish and chips were 1st class. We both had the meal deal which was fish, chips, mushy peas, bread and butter and a mug of good strong tea. All this for £7.65 each and the meal was as much as we could eat. The worst fish and chips I think I've ever had. Myself and my partners fish tasted of absolutely nothing! We left it as it was like eating battered water. Never going again.

We had a previous recommendation for the Bell Lane Fryer. We had a 'sit-in' meal and ordered the special deal (fish, chips, a source, tea and bread and butter), which cost less than most chippies charge for just the fish and chips. Quality was excellent. The fish was fresh, the batter crisp, the chips were not greasy. This is fish and chips as it should be.

Traveled from Liskeard and enjoyed the response. UNTIl we asked too double wrap, because of long journey home, received a miserable look, 1st time, put it down to bad night, went there next week, same miserable response, but this time stone cold chips, it looks as if she got the chips from the edge of the serving pan. Enough is enough we go elsewhere in Bodmin now UP the road, bit of a job to park but the wife goes into a completely different response beautiful crispy batter.

Food is always good however the level of customer service is always shocking. I asked for items in separate trays and you would have thought I had asked for the food free. Always seems to be an effort. Not the first time either.

This is the best chippy in Town, Fantastic portions and the large cod is huge, very good menu and all cooked fresh, staff always friendly and the owner and his wife attentive, even when its packed out the food is the same quality, been eating here for years and can honestly say never had a bad meal. Called in recently and ordered 2 large fish and a pie plus a large portion of chips. Now call me fussy but I like food cooked properly and to pay a sensible price for a meal that is well, enjoyable. The first thing to note here is that pies are microwaved - WHAT! Since when is pastry ever microwaved? NEVER as far as I can recall. The fish was undercooked, greasy and twice as much batter to disguise the fish size which although was supposed to be large was not large in comparison to "Standard" and was still charged £6 for the privilege. I asked for a large chips and watching the server add a few and take a few out was painful. These are chips for crying out loud not gold ingots although the price structure there would indicate gold ingots are the chips. Too many servers behind the counter and a chip counter didn't do too much for the pocket. The whole lot came to just shy of £20. It was not till we got home that we realised the small portions of the chips (although in a big box), the undercooked fish, the hard pastry on the pie thanks to the microwave but too late to return them as the shop would be closed. Suggest treat this place with caution and accept that what you get is smaller than what you are hoping for. The pie and fish went in the bin as it was inedible and the chips were not enough to feed 3 of us so a really disappointing night and a very disgruntled youngster who was very hungry. To the staff - please make an effort to smile and look interested. To the manager - please ensure food is cooked and is better value for money given the experience I had. The Golden Fry on the main road is far better - and cheaper with less batter on the fish but the lesson learned is NEVER buy a pie that has been microwaved no matter where it comes from and say something when the chips are being counted.

On a wet night in Bodmin and several bar/cafes/restaurants close needed somewhere to eat in and found the Bell Lane Fryer.The fish and chips, for both take away and eating in, were freshly cooked to order and they were terrific. The batter was lovely and crisp and not too heavy. The chips were also very good.My only gripe would be they were charging 35p for a small tub of mayo. This was a rip-off.

Came across the Bell Lane Fryer on the way back from Lands end on a Bank Holiday Monday while desparate for food. We were really please to find this Fish and Chip shop, not least because the fish was freshly cooked but also because we were able to eat in and get a break from the journey, Definitely one for the little black book to use again.

My husband and I have been coming to this brilliant cafe now for many years.W go for the mini special which is amazing value, chips, fish, mushy peas, bread and butter with drinks for both of us for just over a tenner. The quality of the food is always excellent' with lovely crispy batter and gorgeous, proper chips. The staff are always friendly and cheerful, and on a recent holiday we visited some expensive restaurants, only to come home to this local cafe, where we had the best meal of the weekend. Better than Rick Stein!!

Absolute disgrace. Dry chewy fish and soggy chips. Try putting some quality into what you do not just a massive portion of rubbish. Do not go here!
