We travelled over 90 minutes for a birthday meal. Wow, we were not disappointed. The staff were very friendly and inviting, the food was unbelievable and was moreish. We were stuffed and were nearly rolled out of the pub we were that full! Amazing value and large potion sizes, would definitely recommend the pub and credits to the chef for such lovely food we will be visiting again in the future.

A fantastic meal with great service and lovely ambiance. We were served by a lovely waitress (short blonde hair), who was friendly and attentive and did not stop all evening. It was such a pleasant atmosphere and the large reservation list showed the popularity of this lovely restaurant on a Thursday evening. We will definitely be returning. Thank you.

We had supper at the Bell last night, spending £178. The food was good but even though the pub didn't seem packed, the service was slow. At 15 to 9, we had to decide if we had time for pudding as our taxi was coming at 9. We knew he could only wait 10 mins as he had a job after us. So we told the waitress we were in a hurry and she agreed to bring a treacle tart. In fact she brought the bill for me to pay to save time. 20 mins later no pud had arrived despite 3 reminders so we had to leave. No refund was offered, no explanation, no apology. Not good service. We won't be returning.

This was our second time to meet friends here and had it been out first we wouldn't have come back. We started with the prawns which were fine but the main courses were very disappointing. I had the brill which was a tiny slice comprising 80% bones. The staff swapped it for the calves liver but one ox cheek was also just a mass of gristle and none of us had green vegetables. Coffee was unpleasant. The service was good and as before the place itself is great but we won't be going back.

I don't want to write this review but feel I have to, as our experience was so bad. 1st off, I want to say the restaurant food/service for dinner both nights was Great. We had an amazing Young tall lad service us and he was lovely and never stopped working. I had the Liver and it really was one of the best Liver dishes I've ever had. I also had a cheese burger and my girlfriend had the steak both nights. Everything was amazing. On the 2nd night we were given 2 comp glasses of Fizz for our 5th anniversary. Very nice touch by the Restaurant staff. On arrival to our room on the 1st day we found, no wardrobe or dresser ( our clothes stayed in our bags the whole time). The room was cold with no heaters on. The toilet was constantly running. When I asked for it to be fixed, we were told we'd have to lift the cistern cover and re-set it........everytime it was used. Not great. I though it would be fixed the following day. It wasn't. The shower tray filled up within a minute of getting into the shower so I pulled plug/ drainage to find it blocked up with disgusting hair. Not been cleaned for days. I left it for them to clean up on Sat morning.......how wrong I was. We had a Nespresso machine in the room but no capsules and there was an empty Jar with a few cookie crumbs in it. So, they couldn't be bothered to refill either. That's fine, but don't be so lazy as to leave them empty in the room. The table they were on was covered in dust, as was the shower head. Basically the room hadn't been cleaned or inspected by a manager. I'm not actually sure they have a manager. No one stood out as being the manager. The corridor to our room was littered with rubbish - a box with an empty spray gun and a long stick with nails in it. Why, I'm not sure, but no one was arsed to pick them up. The breakfast is a JOKE. Not sure I can be bothered to explain it in full. Some bread, dried prunes, apricots and cereal with warm milk. Embarrassing, and laid out on the table by someone who clearly didn't give a fiddlers. Shockingly bad. You couldn't even call it a Continental Breakfast, it was that lacking. I had coffee. On the Saturday after been out all day we returned to our room to find nothing had been done. Unmade bed, dirty towles on the floor etc. When I went down to ask Why, I was told the previous guests had left with the spare key and since we had our key with us, they couldn't gain access to the room. Funny how we weren't told this at check in or didn't recieve a call about it on Saturday. I wanted to check out immediately but I couldn't fine accommodation elsewhere in the area so we stayed. That night after 12 midnight, we were woken by guests climbing on the outside tables to get into their 1st floor bedroom window...... this was after knocking on the door and calling the premises phone a number of times. This is due to the fact that some rooms are only accessed through the bar, so when the staff leave at night the entrance is locked and tough if you're not in your bed. Madness. So we were woken up by this nonsense and it lasted a good 30 mins. So, a terrible nights sleep. Over all, terrible place to stay, but very good food and the bar and restaurant are very inviting. I've managed in Hospitality for years and have never seen such bad management. I half expected a call on sunday after I complained but no, the management are too unprofessional to sort out problems. Go and eat but don't stay. Go to the Double Red Duke instead. It's close by.

This is a great place to stay. Room was excellent just been renovated which was nice. The bed was very comfy and the shower was lovely. Tea and coffee in the room with a good selection. All the staff encountered were very friendly and helpful. Pre booked evening meal which is a must as it did get busy. The food was very nice with a standard pub menu. Pity there was no Sunday roast option. Service was good. Breakfast did not start until 8 which for us was a bit late but did manage to grab a croissant at 07-50 ish so did not have the hot options. Would definitely recommend a stay here and will definitely stay here again. In fact we have already booked for next year.

We stayed for two nights. The evening meal was marvellous. However the room had a very distinct smell of drains which was most unpleasant and the towel rail in the bathroom was red hot making the room temperature very uncomfortable. We stayed last year and a cooked breakfast was included. You now have to pay for this. I feel the standard of breakfast has deteriorated.

Great lunch Saturday (6/7) at The Bell Inn. Charming pub inside and out. The food was SO good. The devilled kidneys starter was lovely as was the fish and chips (me) and the nduja pizza (my wife). There’s a real buzz in the place. The all day bar snacks board looked amazing and when we go next time we will most certainly be trying a lot of them as the table next to us had some of them and they looked epic. All the staff are very friendly and chatty. Food and wine is reasonably priced given the quality of them. Definitely a place to go whether you want a proper meal or just wholesome bar snack food. We will be returning very soon !!

The food is unquestionably good as is the service and ambience Sadly i left with a slightly bitter taste in my mouth as i had asked whether it was possible to bring a bottle of my own wine as this was a special family occasion and pay corkage . I was told that i could -but when the bill came i was shocked to see the corkage for 1 bottle was £50 pounds -i queried this and was told it was correct -i should have been told this earlier -top restaurants in london charge 30 -most pubs in oxon 20 -so sadly we will not come here again as i felt ripped off

Came highly recommended, visited with friends who had been before. Very crowded. I appreciate the need to maximise profit, but I felt like a sardine, hemmed in by coughing children….and just too many customers. I could forgive this, as it was Easter….however, the food was at best, average (overcooked calves liver and unseasoned potatoes), the other three meals were similarly average. On the plus side, front of house were excellent, as was the beer and wine list.

First of all I need to say we absolutely love Tom and Pete’s ethos, we’ve now stayed in most of their pubs numerous times so I feel we’re in a good position to judge. Good points- The food as ever was cooked brilliantly and it’s always great to see offal and game on a menu. (Also, the trout was cooked perfectly) but I’d honestly say autumn and winter are when the menu really comes into its own. Having said that if you’re lucky enough to get the pie for 2, you won’t be disappointed! Atmosphere, the dark cosy colours and low lighting are an absolute tonic to the garish alternatives favoured in other pubs. And perfect for the age and character of the building. Staff, always welcoming and could not be more friendly and helpful. A great team at the Bell. Where to improve- Rooms, I’m told that the rooms are all going to be refurbished, and I can’t say I’m not sorry. We’ve stayed in three different rooms and they’re in need of a bit of TLC. (They get heavy use because they’re popular it’s not surprising). If I could offer the team a little advice on this. You need to consider people using the rooms. There never seem to be mirrors and plugs in the right places to enable you to get ready properly in the mornings. And I’ve seen it said in other reviews, perhaps an armchair in the room where possible? It does help. Temperature too, towel heaters in the bathrooms are red hot and there is no ability to moderate the temperature. The last niggle is breakfast. Up until the end of 2023, a cook breakfast was included in the tariff, now it’s extra. Not a big thing but as room rates increase and the offer decreases, that’s a double whammy. I can’t say I was wholly satisfied with what was left. not enough croissants, the yogurt ran out and there wasn’t much bread to toast. One of the chicest parts of the experience used to be being able to help yourself to a Bloody Mary in the mornings (one of those little touches that elevated the experience), that seems to be flagging too. On one morning the vodka was available but no tomato juice. Don’t rest in your laurels chaps. That said, I look forward to visiting once the refurb is complete.

Stayed for five nights for our anniversary. Really lovely staff. Nice but dark room (6), but nowhere comfortable to sit. The 'complementary' and 'continental' breakfast depends on where you are on the continent! Average most days, and poor on others when things were not available. Oh, but you can have a cooked breakfast 'for a small extra charge'. My very nice, but very small sausage sarnie, cost about £10 by the time they'd added in service. We didn't do the 'cooked' option again. Come on people. Include a proper breakfast with the room tariff, please. And put some protein on the buffet - cold meat and/or cheese at the very least. The inn is work in progress. Having nowhere comfortable to sit and read in the evenings means we wouldn't return for anything more than one night, which probably means we won't return. On the positive, the only evening we ate there in the evening, the food was really excellent, and the staff could not have been more kind and attentive. For a special meal, we could not recommend more.

Visited this pub restaurant on a Sunday afternoon. We were a family group of 6 adults, one 7 year old and 2 toddlers. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome. We were seated next to a lovely fire. The waiting staff were all lovely. We all opted for the Sunday roasts with a mixture of the beef, chicken and pork. I opted for the pork which I would highly recommend. It was beautiful. We had a lovely time here and I would recommend booking in advance as it was very busy when we were there.

In our quest to escape for my significant birthday celebration, we faced the Herculean task of finding a venue that was not just a feast for the senses but also didn’t run for the hills at the mention of "must like kids." We needed a place with the rare combination of a love affair with food, atmospheric charm, and fabulous service, all while welcoming the unpredictable joy that is dining out with children. Enter The Bell in Langford, our knight in shining birthday armour. We arrived at 6:30 PM to a crackling fire and a vibe so warm you'd want to wrap it around you. The Bell is an atmospheric centuries-old pub with culinary ambition, nestled in the heart of the Cotswolds. The menu, at first glance, might trick you into thinking you’ve wandered into your local pub, with dishes like a 1/2 pint of prawns, rarebit and soldiers, chicken Milanese, and a cheeseburger. But oh, how appearances can deceive! Each dish was a slap in the face with the exclamation “Yes, we take our food seriously!” Even the fire-cooked pizza, devoured by our own little home critic, passed with flying colours. Thank you to the Bell and all the staff working that evening, on March 7th. You proved that it is possible to have your cake (birthday or otherwise) and eat it too, even with the company of children. I left one year older (for the purpose of form filling!), with our bellies full, hearts warmed, and the realisation that this gem is only a 90-minute drive away for future Sunday lunch adventures. The Bell Inn, we have ‘unfinished business’ with you. See you soon!

we stayed here for two nights. Our room was small but clean, comfortable and quiet. There was a slight odour which may have been a drainage issue. No one came in to make beds, top up tea, coffee, milk etc which was poor. The pub has bundles of charm and the food was very good if not overpriced. Drink prices were particuarly high. This is an affluent area and i guess the high prices in all of the pubs in this area don"t bother the people that live here. We were charged nearly £10 for gratuities as part of our food bill with no written or verbal prior warning. Surely this should be discretionary ? This was quite a devious ploy . Breakfast was basically tea or coffee, juice, cereal and toast unless you paid extra for the cooked breakfast. The quality was excellent if not a bit limited. Overal the service was very good and its certainly a pub dripping with character and charm. Not sure that i would choose to return but it does have some plus points.

A relaxation break in the small Cotswold village of Langford for three nights bed and breakfast at the delightful Bell Inn. Some of the bed rooms are in the block abutting the pub from which there was no disturbance. Accommodation: Our room #8 was a pleasant surprise being spacious, well equipped, warm, well decorated, adequately furnished for a short stay, and with a well appointed and spacious en-suite wet room. The village is very quiet, although there were a few aircraft in and out of RAF Brize Norton which were not a intrusive. Good value. Meals: Breakfasts - profuse display of fruit, cereals and associated accompaniments, excellent coffee, plus a fulsome menu of quality local components for breakfast were freshly cooked to order. Dinner: imaginative menus have been well reported by many diners and reviewers as being extraordinarily good and we thoroughly enjoyed all of the meals. Ambience: Rustic charm in and around The Bell, enhanced by the very hardworking "can do" staff who, as residential guests for a few days, we very much appreciated. Tip: the bar and dining area area very busy at weekends. Booking advised.

Sunday lunch - superb! Faultless food, friendly helpful efficient and well trained staff. But it is so GLOOMY! It’s fine to aim for subtle lighting to create an ‘atmosphere’ and if you were just going for a drink it would be fine. But to try and eat half tidily you do need to be able to see what’s on your plate, especially if it’s a whole partridge (delicious!) which needs dissection. We love this place but please shine a light on your glorious food - it deserves it!

The Bell is in a great location and makes all the right impressions when you pull into the car park and then step through the front door onto proper flagstones and sit down at proper tables. The menu has a broad selection to cater for all and a superb range of wines and ales. Service was efficient without being overbearing. We selected drinks while deciding on menu choices and once we’d ordered starters and mains didn’t have to wait too long for our first course to be served. The starters were 5* so we couldn’t wait for the mains to arrive. Again they were good ingredients well cooked and presented unfortunately though, 3 of the 4 mains were only warm at best, as were the sides, hence the 3 stars. We perused the desserts but decided that we’d had enough, then within 5 mins of this decision we were informed that the table was required back in 10 mins which we thought was a little zealous because if we’d have ordered desserts we’d probably been eating for at least another 25-30mins.

This is an unassuming little pub off the beaten track in a lovely Cotswold village with loads of charm and a welcoming open fire. First things first. We travelled an hour and a quarter to get here and meet friends and one of the main reasons I chose the place was because it had spotted dick on the menu. Not only that but it was served with cold custard - yum yum and more yum! That alone made it worth driving an hour and a quarter. Alas, when we arrived it was the first thing I asked the waitress and she said it was not on the menu. Dammit. I had the marrow bone flatbread which was good but very salty - luckily I love salty. My wife had the fish pie which looked appealing, was pronounced OK but had bones. The pizzas also looked great and apparently were. For dessert we all had a few spoonfuls of the chocolate nemesis which was rich and very chocolatey but not spotted dick with cold custard. What was cold was the espresso. Three of us ordered them and they arrived tiny, cold and tasted awful. After complaining three more arrived this time tiny, warm and tasted awful. The service was 50-50. One waitress charming and amusing, the other miserable and plainly wished she was elsewhere. The place was very busy. If I went back I'd phone ahead to see if the spotted dick was on the menu as that would just about swing it for me.

What a fun place to find! The pub atmosphere is very welcoming, the dark green walls really draw you into the cosy pub feel. My only disappointment was the service, they seemed very busy which was fair enough, but they weren’t the most friendly of waitresses, there were often times where they looked annoyed with one another too which dampened the mood a little. That being said, the food was great, we had pizza and steak, both cooked perfectly and the wine choice was an ample offering.

I haven't been there in 20 years and having read the recent reviews being in the area decided to stop for lunch. We had to ask them to turn down the music as we were the only ones in the pub and I have hearing problems. Took a few requests to get it down to a reasonable level and we had our lap tops out so they knew it was a business lunch. After that- everything perfection. We had 4 starters between us. Devilled kidneys on toast, scampi in a pint glass x 2 , three times cooked fat chips and mussels in a cider sauce. They were all piping hot and absolutely delicious and we couldn't finish the chips. Best kidneys I have eaten in a very long time. 2 soft drinks and 1/2 cider for £61.00 which in this day and age is quite reasonable. And the lovely waitress then at no extra cost showed me how to log my lap top onto my phone hot spot.( They have wifi, I was just going somewhere after that didn't). Really enjoyed a delicious working lunch in a lovely old country pub with a fire ( I know its only August but it was very welcome) in a beautiful part of the Cotswolds; all honeyed stone and rampant wisteria. My colleague who had never been to this part of the country before was enchanted and thought the food was the some of the best she had eaten. I just hope it doesn't get spoiled by all the good reviews.10/10

Bit disappointed with our visit to the Bell tonight. Pricey for the what it offered. £16 for a pizza and £9 for a tart pudding were expensive. The beef salad main as poor - just slices of cold beef (looked like Sunday dinner leftovers) with salad leaves pilled on top. The big let down was the service. Our waitress whilst proficient was pretty sullen, abrupt and unfriendly. The food was overall tasty but the puddings were a bit disappointing. The apricot and almond tart lacked flavour and ice creams were nothing special., Inside ambience was reasonable but could have been cosier.

First time here but not the last. Very pleasant pub with very nice food, all be it that the food could of been warmer.Started with the devil's kidneys ( my favourite) which were very good and hot, then had a pizza which was also very good but not as temperature hot as I would have hoped, then finished with a nice if a little unusual bread and butter pudding made with a croissant and no fruit again could of been warmer. My wife had padron peppers to start which were hot and very nice, followed this with steak frites once again the steak could have been warmer, finished with affogato.Due to the food not being as warm as it should have been I marked it down by a star. The food was totally worthy of 5 stars just needed to be warmer.

We’ve eaten at The Bell many times under the current ownership but the last few occasions have been disappointing and our visit yesterday left me compelled to write this review (not a regular contributor). The food was perfectly acceptable but the service can only be described as Faulty Towers-esque.Our waiter visited our table no less than 4 times within 10 minutes to take our food order despite us asking for some more time to look through the menu…we were also made to feel like we were inconveniencing them by asking for a high chair for our baby despite us requesting a suitable table in advance when we made our reservation. My wife who ordered a steak to be cooked “medium” was told abruptly that the chef recommended “medium-rare”. When we were paying the bill, the waiter made an inappropriate comment around the “Chinese” origins of Covid which we found bizarre and offensive. All of the above tarnished what was supposed to be a relaxing lunch in the pub with friends.I appreciate that the hospitality sector is struggling for staff at the moment but some more focus is needed on staff training given how much you are currently missing the mark.

Tye food at The Bell is absolutely superb - We have dined there twice now, the latest visit for a Sunday roast and it was absolutely delicious. The pub itself is a quintessential cotswolds local with roaring log fire and a great selection of drinks, including seriously impressive wine list too. They always seem to play incredibly cool music too which just adds to the atmosphere - One of the best country pubs you could wish to visit.

I had lunch there today with a friend and was very very disappointed with my food! I had ordered a pizza which was not nice so I only ate half of it. Tomato sauce unseasoned, straight out of the can, the mozzarella uncooked and the basil leaves tasted slightly rotten. The dough was not hot and too heavy. I had had a pizza there before, about two years ago and I remember it was very good!I was reluctant to pay for it , what was way to high: £14

Stayed for two nights here while working locally. The room was comfortable and warm and the shower / bathroom was perfect for my needs, with a powerful and hot shower. Yes, a bit more noise than you’d get in a purpose built hotel, but this is a working pub in a 16th/17th century building so it’s to be expected. I had two meals while I was there and the food was absolutely fantastic: chicken Milanese with green beans was simply delicious while the partridge and lentils was beautifully cooked. The bone marrow flat bread is pho one also. ‘Publican’ is a nice pint and the wine list looks decent. Breakfast was good too, on the one morning I was around to enjoy it. This is not a ‘business hotel’ (this was the reason I chose it) so the breakfast at 8am was a little late for me but would be perfect for people looking for a more relaxed stay.I chose the pub because I had eaten here a couple of times previously and have always been impressed by the quality of the cooking. To me, this is the perfect village pub and I just wish I lived closer.

We had two meals here. The first one was excellent, the second was less so - it was steak night and the steak was tough. We could hardly blame the staff, and they did replace the tough one with another not quite as tough, but it certainly wasn’t Michelin standard. They have a happy hour on Monday-Thursday but beware - you have to remind them!!! Full price was on the bill, although the manager was very willing to reduce this when it was pointed out. We shouldn’t have had to do this. And it would have been a nice gesture to take a fiver off the bill for the poor steak, or give us a complimentary dessert. The staff were really pleasant and friendly but do the owners actually exist?

We returned for supper with friends, having discovered this little gem a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed another lovely evening. Not the largest of menus but that is made up for by the creativity of the dishes & the interesting selection of wines which Ed, the general manager was on hand to help us navigate. The food was delicious in particular - the salted anchovy & chive flat bread, the steak frites, the perfectly cooked hake and the sublime chocolate nemesis. The pub itself is stylish and quirky and the staff all very friendly and helpful. We shall be back next time to try out the pizzas….

We weren’t going to bother writing a review of our disappointing experience at this inn but having seen the previous review (Average lunch…..) which we can thoroughly emphasise with, we now feel it is right to advise our similar experience when we visited just over a couple of weeks ago. We found the waiting staff to be brusque and unfriendly but were prepared to ignore it and just put it down to them having a bit of an “off day”. To be fair our main courses were all superb but wish we hadn’t ordered desserts of poached peaches. They were so cold and hard that even after requesting a knife and fork to tackle them with they were really inedible and unpleasant to eat. We asked the waitress to advise the chef, to be told that he likes them to be served in this way and were made to feel extremely uncomfortable - not at all acceptable - and asked for our bill. My husband discreetly spoke to the manager who was equally dismissive and disinterested, and reluctantly knocked them off the bill. We have previously visited The Lamb at Shipston-under- Wychwood, their sister pub, and had a very enjoyable customer experience all round - complete contrast!

When you read the review from Giles Coren enthusing about the food you expect great things. Ok, this was written in 2019 but still, the pub hasn’t changed hands and surely it would still live up to expectations! Sadly not. From a luke warm welcome from a young male staff member, we were taken to a small table and given the menu. We ordered a bottle of Sauvignon which was served in pitifully small glasses akin to a Sherry glass. Maybe this is their ‘thing’! We shared the Cotswold IPA Rarebit which was good to be fair, although the soldiers to dip in were in short supply and we had to order more. The Cotswold chicken breast, which Giles Coren had built up to be the best Sunday lunch he had ever eaten, was so disappointing that we felt utterly cheated. Our table for lunch was booked for late afternoon, which maybe explains the overcooked potatoes, dry and tasteless cauliflower cheese and dried out and brittle Yorkshire pudding. We were promised fluffy roast potatoes with a glistening crunch on the outside, oozy and sumptuous cauliflower cheese and a fluffy Yorkshire pudding straight from the oven, hot, moist and utterly delicious. Given that the food came out so quickly, it is not hard to work out that these elements were pre-cooked and left under a heat lamp or similar. Yes the chicken was ok and the gravy good, but we felt cheated. When asked if we were happy with the food, we said yes for some but not for all. We were told it is what it is! An interesting retort to a customer! We would have loved to have had the opportunity to explain to a senior member of staff why we were disappointed and to have given our constructive criticism, but sadly nobody was about other than young staff members who clearly were not that bothered. Why would you be when it’s not your name above the door! Such a shame and to top it all, we had to ask for a discount. Will we be back or recommend the pub? The answer is sadly not. A word to the wise- train your staff better, make every customer who walks through the door feel warmly welcomed and have a senior staff member or better still one of the owners overseeing what food is sent out. And if things are not perfect, talk to the customer who trust us, is full of excitement for being able to eat our once again and is not looking for fault or looking to complain.

We have been to The Bell countless times and whether it was eating in or take-away, the food has always been an absolute delight throughout the years. The owners always have such a welcoming attitude and a great sense of humour, which just adds to the charm and experience. The food has always been spot on, whether it’s the mouth watering buttermilk chicken or the chocolate nemesis (and the list goes on!), the boys can do no wrong in our eyes.We have been visiting for years now and can safely say that each visit has met, if not exceeded, our expectations. Three phone conversations with the hotel management eventually confirmed that a Sunday roast could be obtained in the Terrace resturant. A table for 7 was booked and confirmed. On arrival the Terrace resturant was set up for a wedding ceremony. No other dining tables were apparent. On querying this with bar staff we were abruptly told "not our problem".Eventually found a deputy manager who set about laying up a dining table amongst the wedding guests ! Meanwhile we tried other local venues but couldn't get in within our timescale. We eventually sat for our anticipated Sunday lunch in a crowded golf club bar surrounded by a multitude of wedding guests. The food was obviously recently pulled out of the freezer, looked and tasted same ! HOPELESS !!We recommend training for front of house management in the art of coordination and courtesy for members of the bar staff.

It isn’t that often I visit The Windmill, but I know the place well enough to know something is very different. There was a different aura in the air today. I didn’t recognise any of the staff members, and whilst they seemed like a large family, they were all unique and discombobulated in their own ways. I must start with some high praise - we were greeted very kindly by a lovely tall Irish lady with a beaming smile. Whilst very busy, she was also very accompanying and allowed us to buy a few of their home-made pint glasses (which she said she wasn’t supposed to do). Hats off to her for the hospitality. Sadly things took a slight turn for the worse whilst we were seated. It was only myself and my partner ordering some pub grub, however, after a brief conversation with the waiter it was quickly apparent that some kind of knowledge barrier prevented us from ordering exactly what we wanted. I have a suspicion this older gentleman was a distinguished chef from years gone by, because there wasn’t a single word I understood in his recommendations. Embarrassingly, we decided to opt for a few beers at the bar before ordering food instead. I must admit, that was a saving grace, for their homemade beer ‘Hawkstone’ was divine. The bartender was full of dry wit which added to a great atmosphere amongst the other guests. He has that familiar family friendly humour, like you wouldn’t be surprised to see him on TV! Not only was the beer exceptional in quality, the slight intoxication seemed to clear up some of the brain fog I was experiencing earlier, since the waiter suddenly seemed to made a lot more sense! So, we finally ordered our meal and enjoyed some local produce - again, simply divine. Despite the great tastes and atmosphere, I couldn’t help but feel the service was jeopardised by the initial language barrier. As such, I did ask the waiter if we could remove our service charge. I should add, this was a new waiter at the time, a dreary English chap who wasn’t impressed with our request. Whilst his thorough and detailed lecture around why a service charge holds such an important role in the overarching finance of the food industry, I tried to hold my ground and get this removed from the bill. It was only after we realised my partner had been asleep for 8 minutes that we sped things up, paid the bill with a 50/50 compromise on the service charge, and got ourselves out of there. All in all, I’d recommend the establishment because, despite some teething problems and unorthodox scenarios, the people are genuine and the food/drink is exceptional. Just keep an eye out for those tractors (given the rural area) - a young man with curly blonde hair had completely blocked my car in so we had to wait half an hour to leave!

When a business contact of mine from London told me he would be visiting Witney, of course I wanted to meet up with him. But also I wanted to impress him and show him the best that Witney ha to offer. When I booked dinner at The Three Horseshoes I was confident that my contact would have a great evening, and it was absolutely the right choice. As soon as he arrived he commented on how amazing the pub was, and how he loved the atmosphere and the log burner too. Our dinner was fantastic and even though the place was busy, the speed or service and the attentiveness of the team was brilliant. They were there when we needed them, and left us to get on with our business conversation the rest of the time. For impressing a really important contact from London - The Three Horseshoes was exactly the right choice and what is SO brilliant is that it is also the perfect choice for a quiet pint or to meet up with friends too.

Good lunch selection. Very nice salads and a good choice of panini. It’s not very clear when you go in what to do if you want to sit inside to eat as all the boards are headed up as takeaway menus. The seating area is really just there to eat the takeaway - so order what you’d like and then take it through to eat. It might be good to make this clearer for customers especially when it’s busy. Overall though the food and coffee were delicious so well worth a lunch stop.
