Love this pub. Both the Bicester and the Oxford hash house harriers have used this lovely pub as a starting point for their runs. The runners are very particular about quality beer and the gardner arms always has the plenty on tap. We will continue to frequent this great pub and thank the owners and all the local community for always making us feel welcome and at home.

I tried to visit 9:20pm on Saturday and they were closed. Not convinced the owner wants to run this as a pub.

Lovely village pub, very friendly hosts and great food, mainly pizza and chips though, but if you like pizza and chips, you'll be very pleased. Wasn't busy on our visit and had plenty of indoor and outdoor seating available.

We have only been in the village a few weeks but Jackie and Martin already know our names! Incredible welcome and a very professional response to service in these strange times. Great drinks at great prices! A real gem of an English pub.

Always a great range of spirits on offer as well as the Tackley bitter and Tackley Gold!! As a group of 6 staying in Tackley for two days over New Years, we visited the Gardiner Arms on the 30th of December for food and drinks. We were greeted by Martin and Jackie, the landlords, who could not have been more welcoming. The food was delicious and local Tackley craft beer just as nice. We decided to go back the next day for New Years celebrations with live music from the Hell Cats which was fantastic. They have a wide range of drinks and Martin was helpful to recommend suggestions through the wide Gin selection. I would recommend this pub to everyone and look forward to going back for the music festival in June.

As its been two years since Martin and Jackie reopened this pub they have done a cracking job. Lovely food of which is simple but good. Pizzas, omelettes a favourite. Pizzas also available to take away. A fantastic range of drinks. A newly acquired pool table looking good in the smaller room. Weekly quiz night on Thursday and a meat draw on Friday. Log fire burning in cold nights.

Visited on a lovely hot bank holiday weekend. There was a private function on that night (my reason for attendance) but venue was still open to the public too. A live band entertained all night and the great sun trap of a beer garden was utilised all night. The local 'Tackley Gold' on tap was a GREAT ale. Reliably I formed the Tackley bitter is even better but wasn't available. The food served at the private party was great, no idea about the standard menu though. Overall, lovely quaint pub, friendly staff, Great beer garden.

New owners a year+ back have made this into a pub where you immediately feel at home. Writing this whilst waiting for top quality pie from local butchers and drinking a wonderful pint of Tackley Gold from the local Little Ox Brewery. Lots of knowledge from the owner. Menu is small but perfectly formed with top quality produce forming the heart of it. The lady in the kitchen is very smiley which is a good sign.

New owners, making it a nice local. Some lovely Ales which went well with a good lunch. The Curried Parsnip Soup was hot in both senses; never had this before but would have again. The Roast beef was good; very filling with lots of roast spuds, veg, gravy and Yorkshire pud. The family had roast pork and enjoyed it. My daughter had chocolate ice cream afterwards and the wife had Apple Crumble and Custard. I tried both; very nice. The best part of it all was the people; the staff were wonderfully welcoming and helpful and the pub was full of happy locals and visitors alike; just the environment you want for a pub lunch. Will definitely come back. One point; as I write this they were without a credit card machine due to the recent change of hands but I believe this is going to be rectified soon. If you're planning a visit make sure you call and book and check the payment options status. I've popped in here many times before and it's been mixed before now with previous owners not really making a good go of it but today was excellent. A friendly pub with good food!!

Just returned to an old haunt, now known as The Mason's Arms. LOVE it! Having moved out of the area we hadn't realised it had changed hands. And what hands it has fallen in to! Swirly carpet gone...hurrah! Stylishly rustic, woodburners blazing, candles lit, great atmosphere and even greater food, even on a quiet Tuesday afternoon. Oh the lamb's liver starter!....it was a dream! as was the venison sausage and the ham egg and chips. Warm, friendly welcome from Dan...perfect front of house. Who wouldn't want this on their doorstep. Maybe we should move back! Congratulations!

The food was very good. the decor and place is nice. we were only a table of 6 adults but the food was very very slow to come out. nearly an hour wait for out roasts and 40 mins wait for puddings. the service was good but again we constantly had to ask more than once for things but we would come again ps don’t order the eton mess if you are expecting normal eaton mess. no mention of it being sorbet.

It isn’t that often I visit The Windmill, but I know the place well enough to know something is very different. There was a different aura in the air today. I didn’t recognise any of the staff members, and whilst they seemed like a large family, they were all unique and discombobulated in their own ways. I must start with some high praise - we were greeted very kindly by a lovely tall Irish lady with a beaming smile. Whilst very busy, she was also very accompanying and allowed us to buy a few of their home-made pint glasses (which she said she wasn’t supposed to do). Hats off to her for the hospitality. Sadly things took a slight turn for the worse whilst we were seated. It was only myself and my partner ordering some pub grub, however, after a brief conversation with the waiter it was quickly apparent that some kind of knowledge barrier prevented us from ordering exactly what we wanted. I have a suspicion this older gentleman was a distinguished chef from years gone by, because there wasn’t a single word I understood in his recommendations. Embarrassingly, we decided to opt for a few beers at the bar before ordering food instead. I must admit, that was a saving grace, for their homemade beer ‘Hawkstone’ was divine. The bartender was full of dry wit which added to a great atmosphere amongst the other guests. He has that familiar family friendly humour, like you wouldn’t be surprised to see him on TV! Not only was the beer exceptional in quality, the slight intoxication seemed to clear up some of the brain fog I was experiencing earlier, since the waiter suddenly seemed to made a lot more sense! So, we finally ordered our meal and enjoyed some local produce - again, simply divine. Despite the great tastes and atmosphere, I couldn’t help but feel the service was jeopardised by the initial language barrier. As such, I did ask the waiter if we could remove our service charge. I should add, this was a new waiter at the time, a dreary English chap who wasn’t impressed with our request. Whilst his thorough and detailed lecture around why a service charge holds such an important role in the overarching finance of the food industry, I tried to hold my ground and get this removed from the bill. It was only after we realised my partner had been asleep for 8 minutes that we sped things up, paid the bill with a 50/50 compromise on the service charge, and got ourselves out of there. All in all, I’d recommend the establishment because, despite some teething problems and unorthodox scenarios, the people are genuine and the food/drink is exceptional. Just keep an eye out for those tractors (given the rural area) - a young man with curly blonde hair had completely blocked my car in so we had to wait half an hour to leave!
