The Bell Inn in Nottingham

The staff were welcoming from the street to the bar. Nice weather, so sat outside and struck up a few conversations with others which made for quite an interesting afternoon. A kind of oldy worldy English pub, right in the middle of town. Definitely worth a visit.

What a proper English pub ! Fantastic atmosphere , ample areas to drink in. I think i found 3 separate bars inside. We were day drinking, but I can only imagine a night out here would also be fantastic.

Booked a table on line arrived 2pm stuck at table right next to bar husband enjoyed his steak and ale pie I had steak ciabbiatta I asked for it well done it arrived raw sent it back 2 min later the bar attender arrived back with it and it was dry disgusting the so called salad was floppy could not find barstaff give up in the end had to sit there watch my husband eat his I will never go back there again

Good atmosphere and good selection of Ales

The food was absolutely wonderful; it was our first stop upon arriving in Nottingham, and we were delighted with how well it began our trip. We will certainly return if we ever visit Nottingham again. The staff were very kind and helpful, offering excellent recommendations for places to visit in Nottingham and engaging in pleasant conversation.

Not going to bother with stars. Just don't go. Cloudy cider 40 minutes for burnt sausages..as for chicken Kiev. If you like loud dance music fine..nah. said to staff food was bang average..comments fantastic bye. Nah Green King nah. Avoid!

Omg the smell of the toilets when we walked in last Saturday 🤮

We went in and sat in the small room to the right. At first no staff but that was fine as we went to the main bar to order. Then a member of staff came with what seemed to be his mates. At one point he told his friend not to swear as he had a customer; well that went by the wayside as he then continued to swear out loud himself with others. It just seemed like a Uni room!

Amy is the most friendly, amazing and lovely staff member! Always makes me feel welcome and would definitely come back in a heartbeat! Love the Bell Inn so much, Amy makes quality drinks and manages her team in such a great way! Will definitely be coming back!!!

Called in for a drink with my girlfriend. Lively pub with a good atmosphere.

Food was good, staff friendly, its an old building so accessibility ♿️ isn't great, the one thing that let the place down was the Toilets, the disabled toilet was disgusting, poorly lit, the stench of urine hits you before you get in the toilet, we couldn't lock the door either. It's just outside main bar so its clearly the nearest convenience for drinkers, the floor was awash with urine, we had to leave the place to find somewhere that had a usable accessible toilet. Even the general women's smelt terrible too. Maybe just have someone mop the floor from time to time and sort the lock out . Being disabled makes you feel vulnerable without the added worry of an unlocked toilet !

Brilliant choice of ales on constantly

Almosy a year since I was last at the Bell, was just as WOWed as the last time. Love this pub It always looks on point and staff are so friendly. See you again next time I am in Notts!

Really nice old pub, it's like stepping back in time. The staff were all really friendly and made it all the more hospitable. The lady who served us at first was very pleasant and managed to put a rather impressive shamrock on the pint of Guinness. We then went through to the other sides bar and got talking to the barman Liam. He was very welcoming and pleasant to talk to. We was only stopping for 1, but we ended up staying in for an extra 3 rounds, purely because he struck up conversation with us. 10 out of 10 for customer service from both memebers of staff! We'll definitely be back.

Popped in with my daughter for some food, superb fish and chips (we both went for the same) and a very good pint of abbot ale. Great staff as well. Im not a regular but have been popping in every so often for many years. I've never had a bad meal in the Bell its a great pub. Well recommended.

The bell inn is a superb place to go in Nottingham. Great atmosphere with a fantastic front of house and good service all round. Food is good and never had a bad meal.

I’ve visited the bell inn with my friends and was served by amy who was attentive and friendly, the food was lovely cooked by Charlie. We will be visiting again!

I highly recommend this establishment. It was very busy and our food was a tad late but the staff couldn't have been more considerate. They gave us free drinks as way of an apology. I'll be definitely be back. 👍🏻

Popped into the bell inn after work for a couple of pint's, before my commute home. The pub had a lovely welcoming atmosphere, ended up chatting to the manager Amy who was super friendly and informative about the history of the pub. Also had a steak and ale pie which was lush too, can’t wait to return next time I’m working in Notts !!!

So me and my partner have been going out and exploring the old pubs in and around Nottingham, this Sunday (12 January 2025) we decided on going to the Bell inn , we looked at reviews and decided we would try the Sunday roast. We phoned up at 1pm to reserve a table and was asked what meats we would like so it would be prepared ready for us, we booked the table for 3pm. We drove into Nottingham and parked and got to the Bell for 3pm we was taken to the table we had reserved opened a tab and was served our drinks we then spoke to the bartender saying we was ready for our food in which he went to order but then came back 5 minutes later to tell us there was no roast dinners left this was really disappointing as we had made these plans for the day. The Manager (a young lady) Came to speak to us and she was quite rude and obnoxious to me and my partner explaining the chief got his wires crossed and had given the dinners to some other customers We was offered a complimentary drink but after the let down of not getting our food we left. Really disappointing.

Had a lovely meal at the Bell Inn. Our server Amy was friendly, attentive and made our experience really enjoyable. We have eaten at several eateries in Nottingham but the service here was exceptional. Highly recommend!!

Booked Christmas meal (7th Dec)for 4th year running & last!! Never again food was terrible even though booked in advance from festive menu, staff couldn't really be bothered. No propper running water apparently (should of closed), toilets/drains in the ladies toilets absolutely stank. Botched up the vegetarian meal even though we went in twice before hand and were assured it was all on our booking. Drinks & possibly light lunch ok but avoid Christmas meals at all costs.

OMG I am so embarrassed that this our most historic Nottingham pub was filthy and stinky. The main bar had booze all over it. Has anyone heard of a cloth to wipe the bar down, and the stench of the gents toilets was overpowering as you walked into that bar. I don't care that this is your busiest time of year, there are standards for god sake. Bleach!! Customer service was zero, and why would I want to eat in that stench. The only saving grace was we went back into the right side cubby hole bar which was very festive and uch better than the main bar.

I was Treated to a Christmas Lunch by My Bestie from school. I was ignored at the bar on arrival when I counted 4 members of staff included one younger person right in front of me, totally oblivious…..Good start I thought!!! I was served after a young man saw I was waiting….. I asked where we were sitting as it was a reservation….. we were in the room facing the town centre… we go in there to a table with RESERVED on. We sat with Our drinks, opened our Christmas cards and was enjoying our meet…. Until a time later a lady came over and said THIS TABLE was booked for someone else!!!! So I asked where is the Name???? ……. No name. We DID finish our drink before moving to a table next to the bar with no view only a wall…… we ordered The Christmas Dinner @ £15-95, being Traditional…. We waited AN AGE…… It came…… we asked for condiments….. which took time too……. The dinner, well, I would NOT serve it to a Dog, in fact if it was MY DOG she would have REFUSED IT…. It looked 3 weeks old, DRY… BORING. CURLED UP thin sliced Turkey, No Mash…. Roast Potatoes DOWSED in oil, VILE… Frozen COLD VEG and a pot of gravy on my plate which I DO NOT LIKE,,,,, My First time here and WILL NOT BE RETURNING. My friend was NON STOP APOLOGETIC to me but as I didn’t pay, I left without saying anything to upset her further…… DISAPPOINTING is not even close! Merry Christmas!

This is a lovely little pub in the Market Square in Nottingham. My friends and I met here for drinks in 2022 but were unable to eat due to it being fully booked. I booked a table for 8th December for 7 people a few months in advance and my friends and I were looking forward to having a few drinks, food and then a stroll around the Christmas Market. We arrived for drinks early and were served by staff downstairs at the bar who were helpful and polite and efficient. The atmosphere was good and my friends and I enjoyed catching up. We were then asked to head upstairs to our table. My friend noticed a chicken leg and chips on the floor under the table and a used Christmas cracker stuffed in the menu holder. It clearly hadn't been cleaned. There was a draft from the window and the tables were too close together so we had to move our tables over to make room. A few of us used the ladies toilets which were filthy. The mop and bucket was also filthy. There was thick mould on pipework, the toilet seats were dirty and there was no toilet paper. They hadn't been cleaned and there was a real stench. The food was pre ordered. The starters arrived at the table. A hair was found in food, soup served cold, smoked salmon was brown not pink. The mains arrived. The burger was burnt to a crisp, the turkey was off and had a disgusting after taste. We all left most of the starters and the mains and when the young waiter asked if everything was alright we complained. His response was he could stand over the chef. We asked to speak to the manager who was a young woman who was very apologetic. At no point while we were upstairs were we offered any drinks. I wouldn't have fed the food to my dog. Such a shame as it is a lovely little place. Drinks yes. Food no!

Had a walk round Christmas Market and decided to go to Bell Inn. Because of reviews and the history. Very clean, more than one bar. Wish I'd explored a bit more. Had food which was tasty and hot. Nice place and good atmosphere.

A decent local pub in Nottingham with separate rooms and bars. I visited with friends, the drinks were good and so was the ambience/ environment. Recommended!

Staff and pub fine ,Christmas fare on the menus but not available , Had fish and chips. a bit fair , Although the place is fine to visit I wouldn't altogether try it again but as somewhere to pop in for a drink that would appeal ,i was looking forward to a Turkey lunch though !

Cosy stable familiar.. been going in since the 80s and it never changes...in a good way! Except the prices.. sadly! Lots came in to eat and the food looked great..we just had beer.

Siento la necesidad de escribir una reseña para fines de retroalimentación. Después de haber visitado para el almuerzo del domingo una buena 3 o 4 veces. Decidimos visitar de nuevo - solo en esta ocasión nos fuimos sintiéndonos decepcionados desafortunadamente. hicimos nuestro pedido a las 2. 30 pm cuando el menú dice Sunday Lunch está disponible todo el día! así que mientras ordenaba pedí añadir a mi pedido Pigs In Blankets and Mashed Potatoes. para que me dijeran lo siento no tenemos cerdos en mantas izquierdas pensé que esto era decepcionante en ese momento del día. Entonces me preguntaron si me gustaría alguna salsa - sí por favor salsa de menta - oh perdón que no tenemos nada . . ! ! así que nuestra comida llegó para que nos dijeran que el puré de patatas llegará pronto, tristemente busqué mi ""esponjoso de patatas asadas" como se describe en el menú - todo lo que podía ver era lo que parecían las sobras - cuatro patatas 2 con partes negras malas, finalmente llegó el puré - empeoró esto estaba frío ni siquiera caliente un poco . . . así que esto se envió de vuelta para cuando nuevo puré llegó estábamos a punto de terminar nuestra cena - nos fuimos sintiéndonos desinflados.

We spent a lovely few hours here this past Sunday. The atmosphere, food and beverages where good and the staff was friendly. I special shoutout to Amy in the staff that handled one of the rudest rudest customers that I've ever witnessed. The man was completely out of order and was both rude to me and her. She handed him perfectly. Honestly, I'm surprised he didn't get denied a drink or asked to leave. I've seen people being barred for less when being so disrespectful to staff.

Always excellent choice of beers. In one of if not the oldest pubs in Nottingham built in the 1400s. Good meeting place three bars two small ones either side as you go in large bar at the back with large TV s if you want to watch sport. Good mix of age groups.

Great old pub in the centre of the city. Some really interesting features and wood panelling. A reasonable range of beers - it is a Green King pub!

Pub typique anglais. Nous étions 50. Vites servis, plats chaud, copieux, et délicieux. Employés serviables, souriants et réactifs. Nous y reviendrons.

We had a fab time- super Sunday Dinner lovely pint. Reasonably priced. Amy was a star and served us both superbly. We will definitely be coming back.

Bar staff were keen to help, managed to find a quiet spot in onf of the side rooms, had a good range of non-alcoholic beer

£6 for most pints and at best 'disinterested' service from some of the newer staff. Told a few nights ago 'oh the madris off.' ok ill have a moretti '...oh the morettis off too... ' are you saying you dont want me there?? No apologies! Regular manager is great but some parts of the pub looking a bit shabby and not the best beer selection anyway

Slow service and very bad nachos

We booked for lunch today whilst in Nottingham visiting our son who is at uni here. We ordered 3 steaks and a pie which took 50 minutes to arrive and when they did arrive the steaks were over cooked, chewy and cold. We had to send them back and they were taken off the bill but 3 of our family left not having had lunch. It’s a shame as we chose the pub based on it being in a central location and the previous reviews being positive. Hopefully it was just an off day but it wasn’t just our table sending back food. We would recommend this pub for a drink as it’s lovely but not for food sadly.

Interesting pub with its history of what it used to be etc. 3 different rooms - went in the large long room. Staff and service good - madri beer nice. A good social atmosphere throughout - approx 3/4 full. Worth a visit if in the area.

Staff not that friendly or helpful. Bit arrogant. Probably won't go back. Plus no signs to show original features.

I came here with my wife for the first time. we've ordered some drinks and sat outside. I've got some snack with me and one of their staff asked us to leave straight away. I understand they have their rules but they should at least show their manner. It's such a disappointed evening for their behavior and attitude.

Lovely old & atmospheric pub. Steeped in history & sitting on a warren of ancient caves. Lovely sitting outside in the sun too. But a bit shocked at the price of a pint. £4.75 for a pint of Abbott!

I particularly liked how the pub was broken down into various rooms and sections. Found a nice quiet spot to read. Pint was good too!

Came here for a couple drinks with friends and was served by Amy. Amy couldn’t have done enough for us, she was so attentive and all round just so lovely. She took our experience to the next level! The place has a really nice atmosphere, facilities are clean and well looked after. Ordering was super easy and staff were so helpful. would 100% recommend and will be returning!

Fantastic experience, Amy and Cheyynade (sorry if I spelled wrong) had exceptional service throughout my trip. Will come back.

This pub has a great selection of ales and food for everyone's taste's. Our food was lovely. Toilets were clean. Will be returning soon.

Had a quick drink in here, several small rooms inside, very clean and well presented. Seating area outside, quite cool inside great on a hot day.

Used to be a great pub but terrible now. One set of toilets out of order, the second set stank of urine. Small selection of real ales. Ran out of EPA early Sat afternoon with no attempt to connect a new barrel. Won't be going there again.

This place looks small on the outside but it really is stunning on the inside and well worth a visit. Hosting a classic drinks menu and a great selection of food. The menu can be a little bit of the more expensive side but is very much worth it. I definitely recommend the chicken shearer plate if you're going with two for a snack.

Lovely interior and nice central outdoor seating from which to watch the world swim by; didn't eat on this occasion but drink and service both perfect. Can get busy but is split into three of four different rooms.
