Second visit for a Sunday lunch. Massive amount of meat, even the kids portions were as large as adult portions in some pubs. 4 adults and 2 kids + deserts was £103.

Incredible roast dinner , best I’ve had in many years at any pub!! full on heart and soul put into making of that and it was as good as a home roast. The Welsh gentleman behind the bar was exceptionally friendly, kind but genuinely so from the heart as was his fellow bar worker, waitress. The locals were also very friendly, kind accommodating making the whole experience of eating out but also socialising at the Bell at Buckingham incredible experience. Very rarely nowadays do you have all three of those tick boxes ticked? Well they certainly do at the Bell. Couldn't wait to get back and write a review had the roast dinner today. Great job, everyone keep up the amazing food, service friendliness. Beautful roast dinners, lamb, chicken and beef and the meats just veggies in your mouth. 🙋♂️👍🙏🍽️ Thank you John

We have not visited The Bell for several years but I saw an advertisement on Facebook. We visited with friends and we were welcomed as soon as we entered. I had booked in advance which is advisable. The Sunday menu is limited but sufficient if like us you like a roast and a dessert. Pork beef and turkey was the choice with fresh veg. Not a bad deal four roasts three desserts four beers, Two gin and tonics and two medium glasses of Malbec came to £97. The service was very good. This a country pub and very popular.

We visited The Bell today for lunch. We knew ahead of time that they weren’t serving roasts today, as we called to enquire before arriving. Once settled at our table we overheard someone else asking why this was the case, to which the response was ‘lack of demand’. This was a shame as we’d have been interested to try one. We were still happy to go and choose from the usual menu. I opted for the Cumberland Sausages, Mash, Peas and Gravy and my fiancé the steak, Ale and Mushroom Pie which was served with chips and peas. My food was good, the sausages were succulent and tasty. The veg, you could tell, was either a microwave steam pouch, or from a larger frozen bag, but it was still very tasty. My partner’s said the pie filling was delicious, although it was lacking in lumps of steak and the pie was really a pie dish containing the filling and a puff pastry topper added. It’s completely personal preference with pies, but we would have preferred it to have been encased in pastry, rather than just topped. For the price, we felt the pie was a little on the expensive side for what was served- however it was still tasty. The pub was sadly lacking atmosphere with only two other diners in the lower area where we sat and a larger party up on the top deck towards the rear garden. There was only one member of front of house staff present whilst we were there, until we ordered our final drink when a colleague briefly appeared to assist with the drink order. I suspect, in fairness, coronavirus restrictions only recently having been eased contributed to the lack of ambience and the low level of trade today. Perhaps people are still a little reluctant to eat out, or maybe they had opted to eat at a later point in the day. It would be nice to see the demand for a Sunday Roast increase, and we would certainly visit to try one. All in all a nice visit.

Vegetarian option was a big pile of tasteless rice with a couple of veggies included. Not what we expected after reading the menu, rice & gravy would never be my choice for a roast dinner. Pork was horrible & the whole table was given veggie gravy even the meat options. Nowhere near enough veg for four although this was the only part of the meal that was half decent. So disappointed as was a special family meal & would never eat here again. To be fair, they did take off the cost of one meal but not enough to make this horrible food anywhere near satisfactory. We all agreed it was the worst Sunday lunch we have ever had & went elsewhere for dessert as we were all still hungry.

Called in The Bell for food after a long day out, I order a lasange for myself, my husband had the rib eye steak. When it arrived I was shocked at how unappetising the lasange looked! there was no thought whatsoever in the presentation, considering they charged £11.95, at that price you would expect a salad garnish,to be frank it should come with a salad as standard not to be charged an extra £2.95, When I started to eat it I can honestly say it was the worse lasange I have ever tasted, there was little meat, it was swimming in cheese sauce and the tomato base was the colour of tinned tomato soup (orange in colour) Needless to say I returned it to the kitchen untouched. The barmaid didn't even apologize or ask if there was anything else she could get for me. Ive worked in the hospitality trade for 18 years and know presentation, value for money, and customer care is key, they were missing from the Bell. It was only when I paid the bill I got an apology, I reiterated to the barmaid how awful my meal was, only to be told she was surprised I complained! But then if she thinks it ok to refill budget tomato ketchup in bottles behind the bar on view for all to see, then I'm not surprised she said that to me!With regards to my husbands meal he didn't really enjoy it, the steak was dry and tough, and eating alone ruined what should have been a perfect end to our day out. He too wished he returned it to the kitchen, as it was certainly not worth the £18.50.Had the prices reflected meal I could accept it, but to pay fine dining prices for a poorquality meal is really not good enough. We won't be returning.

I warn anyone staying here how rude and disrespectful these people are. I was treated appallingly, being accused of having only paid for one person and that I was `hiding' someone else! I was not believed when I explained I was a woman on my own, when I explained how upsetting that was I was told to leave immediately. I am a woman on my own and was thrown off as it was getting dark and treated like a criminal for doing nothing. I had intentions of registering my nights stay, and left it 2 hours before doing so, that was my fatal crime. These people are rude , and extremely unfriendly and it all made sense in the end to see an empty field at the height of the season! I have learnt since of several people leaving because of them and many who will never choose to return. A very upsetting and disappointing experience, compared to the so many lovely sites out there with genuinely kind and honest people.

We hadn't been to the Bell for a number of years. We were always impressed by the ambiance and the quality of the food. Went today for Sunday lunch and were entirely underwhelmed. The service from the lady behind the bar was good but the food was bland and waitressing left a bit to be desired. It feels like this pub is on its way out. Very dissapointed with this visit and i have been here several times before and not had any problems... there was one toilet that was not cleaned and overflowing and it was bank holiday weekend. The owners were intimidating, agressive and rude. There are also now so many pointless rules. The electric fence on the sheep pen is not child and pet friendly either and there are no signs telling you it is electric. This campsite is basic but they charge campsite facility prices. I am a chilled out camper normally but this stay was rubbish and me and my friends wont stay in this hole again.....

Charges for this site are hard to understand. Charge £9 a night per unit with no electric then they charge £2.50 per person on top, but I can't see what this was for as there was 1 porta loo which stank and was almost overflowing with a smell so bad you just can't use it. Clearly not emptied or cleaned regularly. 1 shower which is wide open with only cold water. 1 sink outside not clean and only place to wash your hands after using the toilet and do your washing up not very sanitary and again no hot water. There is also an electric fence with no visible signs not safe if you have kids. Landlady and landlord very rude and lacking in customer service skills. Overall I do feel this campsite is not fit for purpose with its lack of basic facility's.

It was a blustery evening and this was first class comfort food and a very generous portion. I have to say that I don't eat cabbage, never have, as every time I try it, it's disgusting. Not here, it was one of the vegetables and I tried it - nothing like I have ever had before, really enjoyable.I had the Chefs Special crumble with ice cream, quite sweet but very enjoyable. A last minute BH decision got me a pitch in the campsite behind the Bell inn.The young lady behind the bar was very helpful and chatty, always nice when travelling solo. She helped with my gluten free options and a wonderful fish and chip supper was prepared. Those chips are the best I've ever had!!!The campsite is a level field out back. The facilities are very basic. The price reflects it. I think though that with a tiny bit more thought and effort , the campsite would get as good a review as the food and service. One portaloo for 14 tents with multiple occupants (the field could hold twenty more) although there was always toilet paper! And one sink , one tap . The bush shower , well this is where it could improve. It's a tray with a shower overhead totally open to not only the sky but to the rest of the camp site. No barrier of any kind between you standing in the tray and those camping or using the adjacent loo. Although strangely ther were three fence panels either side and behind it. Now I've wild camped and had bush showers all over the world and my decency has always remained intact! It still is because I never used it. ! A simple fence panel could be erected that would resolve that issue. Maybe the was one previously , I'm not sure. However that said , it was well located near Frome and I had a great time..and the chips..oh my god...the chips are fabulous!!

I've been meaning to write for a while to say how lovely our visit to the Bell Inn was.I visited the Bell Inn in July 2015, along with a group of bridesmaids and close friends. We were staying that evening in the nearby Orchardleigh estate as I was getting married there the following morning. As such, we were all rather excitable, hungry and nervous! We had such a lovely warm welcome along with some great food, that this helped to provide a wonderful start to the rest of the wedding celebrations. The landlord and landlady were even kind enough to give us some spare coffee, as we had forgotten to pack any for the following morning!Thank you for a lovely experience- my husband was very jealous, as he only managed to get a soggy fish and chip takeaway the night before the wedding!

We live just down the road and in previous years enjoyed many meals in our 'local'. We especially loved the quirkiness of the pub, the dark corners and the random bits of decor including a candle on the bar which had been added to over the years. We took friends here regularly and were proud of our local. We liked the family feel of the pub and the friendly service. Since the takeover 2 years ago, we have been around 5 times hoping that each time things will be 'better'. Firstly on a positive note, the food is good, slightly expensive perhaps but not too bad. Its a good range of dishes and good portions. However, It's such a shame that the pub has lost all its individuality. It's now really bright with fairy lights, open plan seating and things advertised on neon card. There have been reviews on here moaning about the dated decor but actually, these are part of the charm and the reason people come back to places. They like what they know. As customers we like to know our local landlord and not watch them playing a laptop behind the bar. On another note, I've contacted the pub twice as their black boards obscure the vision of drivers coming from cock road. It's really dangerous pulling out onto the main road as you can't see down the hill until you pull out into the road - I have to do this twice daily on the school run. We've had to physically move the board at times just to be able to see the road . They haven't replied to or acknowledged either the public Facebook message or the private one. Landlords - turn the lights down, make cosy corners, create a welcoming atmosphere and please bring back some of the local charm we loved and we will be back. (And please move the boards before there is an accident)

I have just got home after my final ever visit to the Bell and felt compelled to write a review about the appalling behaviour of the manageress/bar woman. I have lived in Frome all of my life and had been a frequent visitor to this beautiful pub while it was in the hands of the charismatic previous owner. My partner and I came here for a casual supper and at the fairly higher prices of the menu expected some delicious food. I ordered the pork belly which when it arrived could have been mistaken for a pork chop. It was hard with gristle and I couldn't work out which was fat and what was meat. The woman came over and very politely asked if everything was ok. I awkwardly explained the situation. She apologised and asked if there was anything she could replace it with. I didn't want to sit and wait while my partner ate so I told her no thank you and just ate the chips. After a while she came out with another two pieces of pork for me. This was very kind but as i had not asked for them and had pretty much gone off the meal I didn't really want to eat them. I had a go but, again, you couldn't really tell the difference between the fat and the meat. The woman asked me how it was and feeling it would be better to give her honest feedback, i again explained. She was clearly not happy with this answer and made it incredibly awkward. We went up to pay and the woman gave us our bill with the pork still on it. I was so confused at this as the first one hadn't been edible and the second one wasn't asked for. I then politely asked the woman to take this off the bill. She asked me if I was serious, i said i was. She did this and slammed the bill back down in front of us. I paid and said thank you to which she replied ' DON'T COME BACK'!!!!!Having frequented this pub many, many times in my life and referred it willingly to other people, I never thought i would be writing it a poor review. How ever madam your behaviour was disgraceful. You should have just accepted the honest feedback with grace and dignity. Perhaps that explains why your pub is so empty when it had once been a wonderful thriving business.

On arrival as soon as we walked in the front door we were treated to a very warm welcome. The service was prompt and excellent which we couldn't fault. We would highly recommend the burgers which we all had and the triple cooked chips were fabulous.

Me and my mate had a starter she had a pate and I had cheesey garlic bread and it was lush then main she had steak and ale pie to which the veg was tasteless and she only had 3 little pieces of steal in it. I had fish goujons and chips and the chips were like they had been forgotten in the frier hard and no potatoe. Pudding she had peanut butter cheese cake which was salty and I had treacle sponge pudding which to me should be plain sponge but I got golden syrup Jamaican sponge it was horrible won't be going there again.

Popped in for lunch last Wednesday with my wife. We chose from the "two courses for 9.95" menu. We had chicken liver pate and two steak and ale pies. The food was of excellent quality, and nicely presented. Very good quality for the price. It is a nice, relaxed place, with friendly staff too.

Horrible, cold, nasty place. Won't be back here in a hurry. Cold food and wasn't checked on for the entire time we were there, once plates were cleared we were immediately given our bill and was not even offered a pudding menu, did not feel welcome at all, and was glad to leave. It's a shame, pub is in a lovely setting and the building is lovely, if the work was put in to it, it would be a lovely place.

Looks lovely from the outside with a nice big beer garden but that's about it. The pots were full of dead plants, inside the seating was crammed and it felt cold & unwelcoming. The food was very basic & struggled to order anything from the short menu with little stretch to the imagination. Fish & chips, pork chops, sausage & mash, etc. Will not be returning which is a shame as the village seemed lovely.

We live in the village and don't often go into the pub.....although we should, as every time we go, the food is great. There is always a relaxed atmosphere, and after a sunny walk with the kids, the food was perfect. We will try to use as much as we can, such a great hub for the village.

I created this account because I felt the need to share my horrible experience with this establishment. The food was just as cold as the staff, and that was extremely cold. They treated the guests with such disrespect that it ruined a very special day. Their lack of care and effort was the only thing felt. if you're in beautiful Frome, I'd steer clear from here!

I have been to The Bell at Buckland Dinham on two previous occasions (both under old and current management) and both times had very disappointing experiences with the food and the service so I had a sense of trepidation when I was invited to attend a wedding there in August. It was certainly the first wedding I've been to where the waiting staff walked out during service leaving guests to serve the food themselves and it was certainly the first wedding I've been to where the marquee was plunged into total darkness just after 11pm, leaving guests (young and old) to scramble about for their belongings with no doubt in their minds that the landlords wanted us gone. Surely any disputes could have been left until after the 'big day'?. To ruin someone's wedding day is pretty appalling and everyone I've told has been incredulous to the fact that you'd act in this way.......so well done to The Bell for some spectacularly bad PR!!! Sadly, from my previous experiences in your pub, you haven't taken criticism well and became extremely defensive of the way you do things. Great!!! Carry on as you are but I (and many others) won't be back.

I attended The Bell Inn for a private function and I was less than impressed with effort given by the staff. Of course the lack of effort was a result of the landlady's direction. It was clear from the start that she was not very friendly or helpful. I do not think any restaurant should serve cold food just to make a point. I also do not think turning the power off on 100 guests is acceptable no matter how upset you are.

We took friends to this pub for a meal. Friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere, the locals obviously enjoy this pub too as there was a friendly group chatting at the bar. We decided to settle in the bar area for our meal, 4 people in our party, we all had a different meal and were all delighted. Yes we will certainly be going to this one again. Thanks to all of the staff.

Looked this up and saw that it was nearby, dog friendly and had good reviews so decided to visit. What a disappointment from the very cold pretty much non existent welcome to the burnt offering ( some of which was cold) that was put before us and the ignorant attitude of the bar person. We did not enjoy our visit here, would not go back and would not recommend it.

My liver off the specials board was the best ever!!! This place will get a Micheline Star if there is any justice in the world!!! My only problem was as I secretly paid for everyone we didn't leave a tip!!! This will be heavily rectified on Sunday when we go for one of their excelent Sunday roasts. Thanks guys see you Sunday, :)

Me and my partner came here thinking they still did the huge steak which my partner was disappointed to find out it was the previous owners, instead we chose from the specials board, homemade pate to start and the most delicious pork belly with cider sauce for mains, would defiantly recommend that. The only negative is that it smelt quite strongly of a scent similar to playdough, not sure what this was but it didn't put me off my food so we didn't complain. Reasonable prices.

I wrote a great review about this place when it went into new management a while ago. We went there for lunch today and the food was just average pub food.. we visited with a 1 year old and a 4 year old. if you have small children you will know that one year olds are mobile, headstrong and very inquisitive. in the garden area they had some baby chicks in a pen which of course to small children is extremely interesting, one one year old had been poking stones through its pen, which when we noticed stopped him but it was very difficult to keep them away from the only thing of interest in the garden, a staff member came out and said a child had been putting stone in there which we acknoledged was ours and she said for them not to go near the pen and she could put it away if they couldn't keep away from it, we where leaving anyway but unless you can keep your toddlers strapped in to something or can guarentee that they won't feel like pestering some cute baby chicks then it might not be the best place to bring them.we won't be going there again... I am in no means saying anyone was being particularly rude, although my husband did walk in on them talking about it at the bar but if you have small inquisitive small children i wouldnt say it is the best garden to sit in especially as the food is not that impressive. .. oh yeah and we asked for a separate plate so our kids could share and they didn't even bring it.

We were expecting slightly better compared to the reviews on TripAdvisor. I would have given it three stars except for the lovely beer garden and the desserts. Baskets and bedding are fabulous. Some of the food, although they claim is locally sourced (we thought maybe from the local supermarket), had been frozen (green beans on a special dish; if they are not in season locally then why not use a vegetable that is). The restaurant decor and toilets are from another era (?1970s) and could do with updating. However service is very friendly and they have a good selection of beers and local ciders. Also save room for dessert; which did taste local and home made.

We had a really tremendous meal here. As a gluten free person I am always concerned about trying new places but this was one of the best. The landlady asked me what would l like from the menu and if they could cook a gluten free version of it. I was overwhelmed with choice. Our vegetarian diner was also well catered for and the other diners were well pleased with their choices too. There are a great range of beers and wines on offer and the option to eat in the restaurant or bar means that there is room for all. The Sunday lunches were advertised and looked very appealing, but we will have to try those another time. There's the option of camping in a field behind the pub if you want to make a weekend of it.

After a first date drink we returned to the Bell for food! Having read reviews about the chips we opted for two burgers with the triple cooked chips! Simple put, the burgers were massive and delicious; the chips lived up to previous reviews. Excellent. Not cheap, but a good well cooked traditional country pub menu. Will be back.

Family of 4 generations booked by my 96 year old Great Aunt! We had a lovely Sunday lunch with massive starters & a gorgeous set of roasts; 3 of us had beef which was lovely, chicken and mixed 3 meat all with fresh veg & creamy cauliflower cheese. Didn't need dessert but rude not too! 3 had ice cream which would have been nice with a wafer or some sort of garnish but 2 had a warm brownie which they liked! Great food nice seating area ~ only slight issue was the toilets need an upheaval which the landlord is already doing. Lovely time had by all!

The last owners were very camper friendly and a group of my friends camp here every year. We are all guys in our mid 30's and were worried that the new owners wouldn't be so accommodating. How wrong we were. An absolute pleasure to sup beers at the bar and smoke cigars out the back. Food was get and allowed us to have a small fire by our tents. The only reason I'm writing this review is that I can't wait to return next Friday. Better put an order in for extra beer!!

I was traveling down south through Frome and stopped here a bit late in the evening. I was quiet lost with finding out everything I needed for the next day. I was given plenty of information and help. The owner of this pub is an absolute Gentleman, The pub atmosphere is very friendly concidering its a small area and many lsmaller areas are not favorable to strangers. I'm looking forward to going back again.

I've never been impressed with the sound quality at this venue, but last night's Afro Celt gig was a new low. The sound system totally failed to project into the hall and had no presence. It's flat and lacks any dimension. You'd need to be right in front of the stage to feel any sense of immersion. Even then, the overall quality is low. To make matters worse, the sound engineering was shocking, with fiddles, pipes, flute, whistle so far bant in the mix that they could barely be heard at times. A really unprofessional event that left me feeling like I'd been ripped off. I'd be really reluctant to see a band here again. Frome deserves better.

Had a day out in St Andrew's on Saturday 11th May as it was a lovely day,so we pop in kinnettles Hotel for a few drinks. As there's outdoor sitting on the pavement so we get a table outside. As it was very hot day my friend took off his T-shirt,staff take our order with no issued at all didn't even mentioned or bothered about his not wearing a T-shirt. After our forth rounds of drinks, this man passed our table bend over to my friend in a impolite bad mannered way and tell him in my Hotel you can't dress like that and he walk away.We where shocking even other guests having a drinks think he was rude. I pointed out to the staff and she tell me not to worry about it, we didn't have a problem plus you guys where sitting outside. The Owner should know better how to talk to Guests he was so unprofessional, and we will not be going back.
