Judge for yourself from attached photos 1 advertised on Facebook rare beef and 1 reality today accompanied by soggy Yorkshire, broccoli so old ... and water gravy. Only ate it (well, not all of it 😟) because we were hungry. Crumble was good custard barely warm. Cheap supermarket wine. Sweet young staff. Locals but won't return and do not recommend. Shame we like to support local businesses, but there's a limit.

We held a wake here & couldn't be any happier with the event. The food looked & tasted amazing, with plenty of choice for everyone attending. The service at the bar was fast & efficient so lots of happy faces, despite the reason for the get together. A huge thank you to Caroline & Liz for the attention to detail, the service at the bar & for preparing a delicious spread at a reasonable price, & at relatively short notice. We cannot thank you both enough. XX

On arrival the chef was in the kitchen with his shirt open not a good start! The garlic mushrooms were over cooked and the rocket garnish was just a pile of rocket. The steaks came out and unfortunately were not cooked as requested so had to go back to the kitchen which meant half the party had to eat alone while the steaks were re cooked. There were also cakes covered by a cake stand on the bar but no tongs and used hands to put on a plate. We were served by a very pleasant and apologetic lady however we were very disappointed and paid a lot of money for the meal. I think this could be a very lovely place but improvements need to be made.

What a really great restaurant! We expected a reasonable meal at a reasonable price and got a wonderful meal at a very reasonable price. The whitebait starter was very good with just the right amount of batter. The desserts, pancakes (it was Shrove Tuesday) and brownie with vanilla ice cream, were both also very good. The brownie was neither dry nor too gooey. However it was the rump steak with peppercorn sauce that was the revelation. We had cautiously asked for the sauce to come separately as, frankly, in some places steak sauces can be quite nasty. Not this time. It complemented the steak wonderfully and absolutely made the whole dish. The steak was properly cooked to individual taste. For the first time in a long time we finished the course wishing for more, not because it was too small, but because it was so good! The service was pleasant and attentive without being intrusive and the atmosphere was quiet without being eerie. Altogether an excellent meal.

We decided not to eat at the hotel we were staying at for the second night and found this lovely pub in the local village. What a great find! The Landlady was very accommodating and friendly. We were delighted that it was curry night and were blown away by the tasty food we ordered. The only downside was that the poppadoms were very oily. but the tastiness of the curries more than made up for it. Sadly we didn’t have room for pudding but the choices were tempting! A must if you are in Horringer 😊

A cosy, very friendly pub, we were surprised and pleased! I really love my curries and was surprised how tasty the chicken jalfrezi and sag aloo were and to be honest, I thought better than some of the curries I've had from restaurants in town. The new Kobold lager from Adnams was a bonus too, a crisp sharp lager. The classic fish and chips was perfect too. Overall, a nice Saturday night down the pub for exceptional value. Cheers Beehive!

Turned up after finding a local pub was closed. It was Pizza night cooked in a horse box in the carpark. Made an order and told he would bring it in in 10 minutes. It finally came 30 or 40 minutes later. One was burnt and the other floppy only real hunger drove us to eat them.

Highly recommend The Beehive, Horringer. Unfortunately for us we arrived on a Wednesday evening and unknown to us it is Pizza evening. As I am not a lover of Pizzas, we told the landlady we would go elsewhere. However, the landlady excelled herself and could not have been more helpful. She offered to cook us chilli con carne to which we accepted. So glad we did it was delicious. Afterwards, she kindly offered us apple pie and custard. We are so glad we decided to try this. It was so tasty. Best I gave tasted in a long time. I really cannot thank the landlady for her helpfulness, friendliness and kindness shown to us. She certainly excelled herself and nothing was to much trouble for her, even though she was quite busy. I really cannot rate this pub highly enough. Certainly worth 5 stars. We hope to have the pleasure in visiting again in the near future.

The waitress was very friendly and chatty. The place was nice and clean but the food.......well the starters were fine, they were the best bit of the food we ate there tonight. Then we had the mains and two of our party chose the beef burger. I can honestly say it was the worst burger I have ever eaten. It was like someone had taken a cheap beef burger, had grilled it for far too long till it was chard and then had put it away for few days and had decided to microwave it for our dinner. It tasted like cardboard. The "chips" were cheap french fries and tasted well not of much. I was really shocked anyone would serve that to a human never mind customers. Toast and butter at home would have beaten it. Also the menu they handed out when we arrived was nothing like the one they have online. A lot of options that we liked were not available in the restaurant.

We were lucky enough recently to sample the latest edition to The Beehives menu...Afternoon Tea.This was presented so well it was a shame to start eating it (see photo). It comprised of various sandwiches on granary & local fresh baked white bread plus bagels. The fillings:beef & horseradishcheese & chutneyegg & cress (egg yolk was a lovely golden yellow in colour)salmon & cream cheese (bagel)prawn & mayonnaiseham & mustardAlso, I believe Waldolf salad filling is also available. There were also 2 of each cheese & fruit scones freshly made by Emma from The Beehive. These were complimented by strawberry jam & clotted cream. If this wasn't enough 2 large slabs of lemon drizzle cake & another two equally large slabs of coffee & walnut cake, again made by the highly talented Emma. Also, 2 of each breakfast and earl grey tea sachets provided.A few plum tomatoes & watercress scattered around the platter was very visually effective. To finish off a couple of lovely little chocolates.Everything we ate was fresh, tasty & very well presented. Highly recommended! This became an afternoon & evening tea due to the vast quantity of food. You could make this stretch to four persons quite easily for an afternoon snack.Plates & cutlery available on request. This an ideal gift for someone or a treat for yourself. They thoroughly enjoyed both dishes and commented how tasty the food was. Very well presented & served by attentive staff. Covid compliant with sanitiser station inside. There is plenty of signage by the station but we noticed a lot of people just walking past the station as if it didn't exist! Maybe the staff could ask if they have sanitised prior to filling in the track/trace register would help? Other than that concern... we loved it.

Well there were only 12 of us in there, mabye clue! First was the new menus, very limited and missing items pre planned. So we chose, one of the starters picked was not avaliable and one item wanted by two of us also not avaliable. A very poor start. I had a beef burger, really good, but a choice I make when there is nothing more interesting. The chips were poor, soggy sliced roast potatoes. And concidering there were so few diners in , the delay in serving of main meals was, since arrival, 90 mins. Very poor. To be fair without asking we were not charged for any drinks. so they did realise the shortcomings. I hope this was s one off as it is a very nice Pub and may have been a one off.

Wednesday lunchtime, booked for 12:00, ordered food very soon after. My colleague didn’t want a starter. The mains arrived at 13:15, which meant he had waited over an hour for his food. The food was average at best and not up to the menu prices. A bit surprised by the pork and mushroom risotto. Arrived in a soup plate. One third of plate contained some mushroom and pork casserole (that’s all I could describe it as), in the middle was some boiled and quite dry rice and the other side of plate contained a near array of 10 smallish boiled green beans. Nothing like the consistency or taste of any risotto I’ve had before. I mixed up the casserole and rice in attempt to reproduce the appearance of risotto, but it turned out to be a rather dry presentation of pork, mushroom and hard-ish rice. The waiting staff were under-resourced, items were forgotten on our table and others we noticed. I think the chef might have been away. A very pleasant waitress had obviously been called in to help out as she said she wasn’t supposed to be there. Didn’t order a dessert as didn’t have time to wait. Just as leaving someone came out of the kitchen to tell the bar staff that there was no more mashed potato. Pity the people who’d ordered the sausage and mash on the next table. Perhaps they were lucky with the last portion. I’ve a feeling that the “real” chef might have been away and/or they weren’t expecting so many people to take lunch that day. Not sure if we’ll bother again. The waitresses were both very apologetic about the service wait and the short orders, so we didn’t pursue things further. It wasn’t their fault.

I rang to check they were open and was told it was okay, but I was feeling quite embarrassed as word spread and more and more people kept arriving. It was Bank Holiday Monday, we were told that the full menu wasn't available, but chips and filled ciabatta were served to all who wanted them in good time, all was well cooked and very welcome.By far the best thing about our visit was the service with sauces offered, empty glasses collected and refills offered, I don't find this is common in a busy pub and it really set the place apart. Many thanks for looking after us so well.

My husband & I visited with some friends for a mid week treat, and The Beehive didn’t disappoint. There is a good sized, well lite carpark that has a good surface that can be negotiated in heels (important for us girls), which was a good start to our visit. There were other customers, but because of the thoughtful layout we did not encroach upon each other. The Beehive, felt clean and well cared for, with real thought going into many of the pictures and wall art (I’m a bit of a geek, and loved the map near the bar).We received a warm welcome from Liam, who was looking after the bar. Liam knew his stock well, and gave good advice when asked for his recommendations – the Quince gin and lemonade is certainly a tipple that will be repeated, and the wines recommended to complement our meal were superb. There was really good choice on the menu – not an over the top vast range, but varied and appealing which certainly provided something very appetising for each of our differing tastes. The food was well presented, served on warm (when appropriate) plates, and most importantly delicious. We all commented on how good each of our meals were, my rib eye was perfectly cooked. We had a very enjoyable evening, and will certainly be returning.

Four of us went for a meal at The Beehive and enjoyed a very good three course meal. Two had the potato & leak soup and was apparently delicious, one had the liver parfait which was also proclaimed to be tasty. For main course two of us had the ‘blackboard special’ salmon steaks and the others had the ‘special’ steaks and we all agreed the food could not be faulted. Desserts were nice too. Staff were friendly and helpful. Recent negative reviews regarding temporary agency chefs should be overlooked as the new permanent chef started last Tuesday and if our food was anything to go by, he’s a winner.

Decided to go to the Beehive as we had received a card through our door saying there was a new chef. We thought the previous chef’s food was very good and we were very disappointed to be told when we arrived that there was an agency chef and they were waiting for the new one to start ??. apparently this chef had been in master chef and got to the semi finals ! Sounded promising but unfortunately our steaks were so chewy I only managed half of mine ! This is quite unacceptable we feel .We did receive 50%of the bill but this is not what one would expect from a master chef semi finalist ??? There is no ambience in this pub (only one other couple there for quite some time until a few other people turned up) not good on s Saturday night !! and it is a poky little place with a tiny bar area and not much of a wine selection either . It’s also desperately in need of a re -vamp and does not portray a very professional atmosphere. No toilet paper in the ladies at the start of the evening ? Really??Sadly it will be a while before we go back which is very annoying as we live in the village and Horringer only has one other pub which doesn’t come up to scratch either !!!

Staff doing their best in very difficult circumstances. Not what it was in terms of quality at present!

Very welcoming and friendly staff. We found the food good on the whole, but thought the chef was trying to be too adventurous. Some of the tastes put together were a little unusual. All in all, we had a good lunch, but thought it slightly overpriced compared to others in the surrounding area.

Food nicely cooked. I would suggest the proprietor is serving food that they themselves would want to eat and concentrating on doing it well as opposed to an endless mediocre menu. The layout is relaxing as tables are not too close together. Chicken and bacon pie with seasonal veg and chips for my whilst Katherine had cod and chips. both delighted. The meats in my pie was very succulent. Katherines fish was ample with a very light batter. The chips are home made with skins on- very tasty and crispy. Pricing is reasonable. Great Service from Liam. Unobtrusive table checks. Whilst the standard is considerably higher than pub grub the meals are such that you can get stuck in and enjoy.

We booked a table for a party of ten for birthday celebrations.Nice pub ,well decorated. It took 45 minutes before our order was taken after we had to ask. Then they brought up chopped up baps with oil and balsamic vinegar and frozen butter. When the meals came up after a long wait the food was awful. The parsnips and carrots were raw .The Yorkshire puddings were under cooked .Children's sausage and chips came up with two microwaved sausages.Cabbage and wedges with watery gravey over it.Fish and chips were greasy and undercooked. We just wanted to leave by this point and then the cake came out so did not sit and enjoy it.It was not the waiting staffs fault they did offer extra drinks.Allin all a dissapointing lunch.

We visited this pub last week with family for a Sunday meal. The food was some of the worst I’ve ever eaten from a pub/restaurant. The fish and chips were dripping in oil (and subsequently flooding the plate with grease) and their version of mushy peas and tartar sauce was, in my opinion, inedible. My sister had fish with risotto from their special menu (which was around £16) and it was also dripping in grease, and the risotto was flavourless. Even the complimentary bread was stale. I’m certainly no fussy eater but this was some of the worst food we’ve experienced. We all left extremely disappointed for what was a relatively pricy meal. It should be noted however the staff were friendly and attentive.

On the 23rd December 2018, my wife and I booked a table for two, to celebrate or anniversary. Shortly after we arrived our Christmas lunch was served, but it was so cold we had to return it to be heated up. When it was returned, we were shocked at what we were being served. Under the slices of turkey were a large amount of turkey skin, which looked disgusting. The gravy was like dishwater, the potatoes were under cooked and the whole meal was uneatable. I was unable to eat more than a mouthful and we returned the meals to be disposed of. The youngman who served us could see we were very unhappy and disappointed, and only charged us for the drinks. This was our second visit to The Beehive. Our first visit was very positive and I gave the restaurant a good write up, on my first visit, so maybe, the second visit was a one off.

The Beehive is such a lovely pub to go and relax in the winter, log burner going and great beer. Staff are really friendly and accommodating. My wife chose this pub from all the glowing reviews and lovely pictures on this very site, but we experienced something a little different. I think that you can judge a pub on the roast dinner they serve - we all sort of know what is good and what needs improvement.Three of us opted for the Roast; two beef and the other pork. The meals arrived quickly. We all agreed the meat was a generous serving and very tasty. The roast potatoes were fluffy on the inside and very well cooked. And then the rest required some 'improvement'.My Yorkshire pudding was so well cooked it virtually shattered, the gravy was watery, vegetables under cooked. Everything was warm and not piping hot. There was an awkward bit when we were asked 'was everything ok?' to which I muttered something - and yes I should have been brave and said what I just wrote BUT there is a certain lack of awareness on the part of the chef. The defects were pretty obvious and yet the meal was still served like this ("This Yorkshire is totally burnt but let's bung it on a plate anyway...")I was hoping for better desserts but these were also average (they had run out of custard and we were all served ice cream even though one dish was supposed to be with cream).I hope this was just a one-off experience but with so much competition out there I'm not going to try again. And a really minor, tiny point - you know when someone in the group has a birthday and the arranger of the meal mentions this at the time of the booking and at the venue just hoping you might get a candle or a sparkler on your ice cream?Well that birthday boy was me and where's my sparkler! For all you readers thinking that I'm being a bit precious about my stupid birthday then maybe I agree, but if I can go into town and visit a chain restaurant and be treated like it's a special day then maybe a pub can do the same?

I had meant to write this a long time ago - I took my wife, and parents for a lunch here during the summer, as part of our 'goodbye to the UK' send off.We had an absolutely wonderful roast dinner - my beef was perfect, and the vegetables were all cooked to perfection. As someone who has worked in a lot of kitchens, and is a bit of a 'foodie', I asked to speak to the chef, as I was curious how the vegetables were cooked to perfect tenderness to order. In fact, we all ate different dishes with different accompaniments and sauces, and they were all spot on.I won't give away his secrets, but suffice to say, I was thoroughly impressed at the quality of all the dishes - each had been cooked with care and attention, and I was amazed that all could have been cooked concurrently and at the same time as serving many other covers.I was reminded to write this review when I saw our photos from the event, and I have learned from the other reviews that the man I spoke to has left for pastures new! Whilst the drinks in the place, and the decor will not change, I have no doubt that the quality of the food was down to the chef - when we return to the UK, I'll return to the Beehive for a drink, but I'll have to find where the chef has gone.I'll be interested to see what has happened to the food quality, but I can take an educated guess.

Apparently Max the chef has left and this place cannot cope. Virtually empty with no atmosphere -a basic roast Sunday lunch was awful. Very well done beef served with under cooked Yorkshire’s and cold vegetables. Service was also so slow. It is obvious that they are now struggling without a proper chef. The lady in charge was very apologetic , offered alternatives (which I dare not accept)and did not charge for the meals-but whilst a good gesture still meant we had to go home and cook something for lunch. PLEASE get a new competent chef

Came here for the first time in many years and we will definitely come again. The service was excellent (especially the young lady behind the bar). The beer and wine selection was great. All the food was brilliant. I had the steak and mushroom suet pudding and that was superb. The only reason it does not get 5 stars is because it was a very cold restaurant. As soon as some other guests point d it out the main man quickly got the radiators going. I think this comment has been made in other reviews and so hopefully they will pick up on this point and set the thermostat correctly! Having said that, we will definitely go again because the food and service makes it such a great place.

Came here on a Tuesday night with friends. Nice greeting when we arrived and the place was busy. We had heard good reports that it was a nice place to come and the food was good. We were shown to our table, which was a nice comfortable spot. Then it goes downhill, the menu was very poor, we had 4 starters and 4 mains to choose from and they were sold out of 1 of the 4 starters and 1 of the 4 mains. There were 4 specials on which was chilli or veggie chilli and 2 salads. So eventually we made a decision on what we like to eat, the goats cheese starter was great, the garlic bread starter on the other hand was extremely salty. As for mains I had the fish and chips which was poor, the fish was dry and batter hard in places and the chips were not what i expected they looked more like chopped up roast potatoes, and didn't taste good, so I left all them. The wine was good, and the lager choice was very limited. All in all it wouldn't encourage me to return, maybe we caught them on a bad night!

This place is a gem, offering a great choice of hot and cold food and drinks in lovely surroundings, complete with attractive artwork on the walls. I had the Cornish pasty, which was piping hot, delicious, and generously filled. The fresh and crunchy salad that accompanied it was how I liked it.
