The Beech Tree Inn in The Vale of Glamorgan

Unfortunately it looks like the Beachtree has closed. A favourite place we have visited many times and we will miss our Christmas visit this year. Let’s hope it opens again in the coming months.

Found this restaurant by chance and so glad we did. Really nice venue inside - staff were very friendly and food was delicious. We went for the Calamari and Pork Belly to start, the chicken and lamb for main and the brownie and lemon tart with cherry sorbet for dessert (cherry sorbet was out of this world). Would definitely recommend everything we ate as it was all really tasty. Great find, will be returning and if it’s not on your list already then it should be! * should note, the lamb isn’t normally served with chips as in the picture I just asked for them to be switched in.

Used to be one of my favourite restaurants, but on my last visit for a birthday lunch, I got severe food poisoning. I contacted them and initially they responded well but have since just stopped communicating. I was willing to overlook the experience as a one off but so disappointed to be ignored, I felt it should be noted somewhere.

Ate here 2 evenings running as a couple and then took family members back the next evening. The food was very good and service excellent on both occasions. The menu isn’t extensive but enough to satisfy most palate’s. Drinks are priced sensibly and there is ample parking. We were told they do a Sunday lunch which is rammed and unfortunately we cannot try on this visit. Unfortunately it wasn’t busy on either evening and with the prices can’t understand why it was not full? Locals get there to support this place!

This used to be an incredible sea food restaurant, but now has more of a general pub feeling menu. Has definitely gone down hill over the last 5/6 years. The same with the building itself in that it's been modernised and in a way lost some of the charm. Food was ok, service ok, would say below average. The latest visit confirmed no longer a venue for a special occasion for me anyway

My husband, daughter and I had a excellent experience when we visited this restaurant for lunch last week, from the moment we were warmly welcomed at the door to the minute we were very cheerily wished goodbye when we left. The service throughout was a delight and our food choices were all very tasty. My daughter and I had the sea bass and a very yummy dessert and my husband enjoyed his pork medallions and sticky toffee pudding.

So disappointing, sent the steak back twice and it was raw each time. Left hungry. Service was good. But ended up paying a fair price for one person not to eat.

Haven't been to the Beech Tree since covid when we used to go a lot. Still great food but so sad to see it so quiet on a Fri eve. It's no more expensive than other places so please visit its a real gem just past Culver House. Great waiter who was doing everything and you need to visit!

Lovely food. Menu was simple but still plenty of choice. I had the halibut and prawn curry and it was excellent. Also good selection of wines and beers. Not a cheap place to eat but you get what you pay for.

We visited for lunch today, four of us. Really, really cold, when I mentioned this to manageress, she said they were waiting to get the heating fixed. We kept our coats on throughout the duration of our stay! Starters were quite good, calamari especially. Fish and chips were not good, don't know how they could produce such heavy batter, left a great deal. The steak was not cooked well looking boiled rather than fried and when we mentioned that serving up food like that would not bring us back, the manageress said there was nothing she could do about that? REALLY! Unfortunately we will not return which is unfortunate as we line reasonably nearby. Not much one can say if staff think the food is acceptable, other than vote with ones feet.

My mums 80th Birthday and it was DEAD, they didn’t even offer her a free dessert or coffee… The steaks weren’t great either but they didn’t seem to care… ZERO SCORE

Post Covid things have not been as good in this restaurant but recently there has been a marked improvement especially in their Sunday lunches and service, I don't know what their mid week meals are like or whether they are under new management Definitely worth a visit although there is still a need for further improvement. ,e,g . In varying their menu or offering weekly specials. Good spacious parking and pleasant seating outside in warm weather

Enjoyed our Birthday meal at the Beach tree again this December. Both chose the Festive 3 course menu and it was really tasty. Turkey and all the trimmings. Restaurant warm and nicely decorated for Christmas and the staff were very welcoming and helpful.

Visited for first time since lockdown although did use takeaway service. I would give the experience 8/10. Only criticism was duck starter being over cooked and dry. Roast beef was very good as was Eton Mess desert. Service was also very good. Would recommend.

Estábamos buscando un lugar para comer antes de nuestra entrada programada a Duffryn Gardens y acabamos de encontrar este lugar. ¡Un verdadero hallazgo! ¡Esto marcó todas las casillas! Una cálida bienvenida, un extenso menú a precios razonables y mesas al aire libre con distanciamiento social. Y la comida era realmente deliciosa, ¡y un paso considerable con respecto a la comida estándar de un pub! Ambos elegimos lasaña y era rica y cremosa y venía con generosas porciones de pan de ajo y con avidez optamos por una porción de papas fritas, no es necesario, pero ¡bueno! Toda la comida se traía a nuestra mesa en bolsas de papel con cubiertos de plástico y servilletas de papel, desinfectante de manos en la estación de pedidos de alimentos.Disfrutamos mucho de nuestra comida y realmente esperamos que este establecimiento prospere tanto a corto como a largo plazo, ¡ciertamente también se lo merece! After 14 weeks without seeing my family,we finally got together last Saturday.We ordered 8 meals from the Beech tree beech bites take away menu and asked if they could be collected at 4.30.The person I spoke to on the phone could not have been more helpful & said the chef would start early to make sure the meals were ready at 4.30.--they were.We collected the meals and every one was exceptional . well packaged and hot.I will definitely be going back again.Well done to the owner & his staff,a special thank you to the chef.

What a super little find this was almost in our backyard! Dropped on it by chance but enjoyed a lovely light lunch out in the beer garden, from their new outside cabin specially constructed for lockdown. Tasty and nicely presented

This Take Away service is opened only yesterday. From the menu on offer, I chose 'King Prawns' & a Red Thai Vegetable Curry. I ordered online. I was told the meal be ready in 30mts. On arrival, despite the fact that many were queued, my meal was ready. I was promptly dealt with. The price was reasonable and my food was wrapped in an excellent package. When I got home, the king prawns were succulent and juicy to taste and the Thai curry was equally delicious. My friend and I enjoyed the meal. We will be back again and definitely soon try the rest of the menu! Good luck to the owner to this enterprising venture!

We have eaten at the Beech Tree frequently over the years but we were very disappointed today. Despite being fairly quiet we did not receive any food until an hour after we arrived. Quality of the food was also disappointing eg fish and chips very greasy, duck sauce tasted like instant gravy. Service was poor and not the usual friendliness.

We have been frequenting the Beach tree for many years even after change of ownership once or twice and i must say the establishment is definitely not the same. After waiting over half an hour for starters of a simple garlic bread and tempura prawns in an under half capacity venue was unacceptable. The manager and staff did apologise and offer no charge on just the garlic bread mind.....My partner, daughter and myself all ordered fillet steak to which we waited a further half hour for after starter plates had been taken was testing but then when the waitress brought our steaks which were cooked rare, which none of us ordered were returned before they touched the tableIt was apparent that our mains course wasn’t as important as another tables mains which was being served after our steaks had gone back for obvious undercooking. Priority once a mistake was made on the restaurant’s behalf was not put right immediately as im sure the previous owner would have Insisted on. Very disappointed and will not be returning and will also warn others of this.

When you arrive the size of the restaurant is deceptive and it is much larger than it seems. The staff are very welcoming and were so throughout our visit. The seating is varied from two seats to as required. The staff were setting up booked tables as we were leaving and one I saw catered for ten. A very flexible setting. My daughter took me to this restaurant as a treat. It was her second visit, the first impressed her so that is why we went there.We had deep fried goats cheese and the salmon dish. The goats cheese was perfectly cooked and lay on a bed of assorted greenary. It was a well portioned size and we enjoyed it very much.The salmon dish was very well prepared and presented. It consisted of a Pan Fried Salmon served with Char grilled Asparagus, with a Prawn and Lemon Butter Sauce . The fan of asparagus which had been cooked so it was ala dente and had a very delecate sauce over it. A serving of boiled new potatoaes were served in a separate dish.We also had a small glass of white wine.The cost for the meal was twenty pounds per head.An exceptional meal and we well recommend it to all.

A spacious, very clean restaurant. Our meals from the lunchtime / early evening menu were very tasty and were served hot. This menu is of good quality and good value. Attentive service made the dining experience enjoyable.

Not realising this restaurant had changed hands we looked forward to cosy surroundings,great food for our Xmas evening out with friends.The restaurant was chilly and surprisingly quiet for time of year.We had booked for Xmas party menu The starter was ok but the lamb shank which followed was tasteless and worse to come was the bread and butter pudding.Standards have sadly dropped, such a shame

Have been to this restaurant a couple of times recently and found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. The surroundings are very nice. The menu offers a good range of choices and is good value for money. There is ample parking available but not the easiest place to find.

This is a favourite restaurant when visiting South Wales. Had dinner with four family members when visiting Cardiff. Excellent service and great food.

Went here today, previously always enjoyed outstanding service. Staff are all friendly except for lady with ginger hair and glasses who couldn’t be more rude if she tried. We ordered wine which tasted horrible she didn’t offer to try it first just filled glasses. Sent it back reordered and then she started raising her voice asking us in rude voice “ what is it you want” if I hadn’t been with my father who was looking forward to eating here I would if grabbed cost at left then. For the rest of experience she ignored us when we wanted her to come and clear plates etc so our overall service was poor. Food was nice but probably won’t be returning in daytime.

The food was fantastic, the service was also. Best restaurant weve been to in ages. The tables are nicely spaced so that you can chat without being overheard, and the music wasnt so loud that you couldn't hear yourselves speak. Altogether a great restaurant.

This was the first time I have visited the restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised. We had a lovely Sunday lunch in a very homely atmosphere. Staff were friendly and attentive to our needs providing drink refills promptly. Will definitely visit again.

We visited as a family group of 6. A round table is usually great to be able to talk all together but the restaurant seemed particularly noisy today which made this difficult at times.

El personal fue moderadamente atento, podría haber sido un poco más relajado al tomar el pedido, pero pronto nos sentamos y tuvimos algo maravilloso comida que estaba muy bien preparada, caliente y sabrosa. ¿Dos pequeños factores que impidieron una calificación de cinco estrellas, donde las instalaciones estaban ligeramente frías, no era un día agradable y no había verduras con las comidas? . . Incluso para el menú ligero a las 16 por cabeza, incluso si hubiera brotes de brócoli con las salchichas de venado y puré, habría hecho que la comida fuera completa. Aquellos que tenían su fabuloso pescado y papas fritas maltratadas tenían una ensalada moderadamente aceptable, ¿por qué no verduras a ese precio? . .

Un restaurante muy elegante. Una cálida bienvenida, seguida de un excelente servicio, con mucha atención al detalle. Excelente entrante y plato principal con una copa de muy buen vino tinto.

Always try and visit the Beech-tree at least once when I am home. Service and food is excellent and their Sunday roasts superb. Well worth a visit at any time.

Visité Beech Tree para el almuerzo y no me decepcionó. Tenía el menú fijo; goujons de bacalao para comenzar con salsa de tarta casera y eglefino para main. No tuve espacio para el postre, lo cual es una pena, ya que apuesto a que también habría sido increíble.

Lovely welcome at the Beech Tree where we were made to feel at home immediately. Plenty of food, served piping hot by friendly, efficient staff. Roast pork served with crunchy crackling, roast sirloin of beef cooked to perfection, plenty of perfectly cooked vegetables and a great choice of starters. Unfortunately too full to try the delicious selection of puddings. Would definitely recommend and will return again soon.

We came to the Beech Tree for a family lunch to celebrate a birthday. It too two hours for us to be served two courses. Orders were incorrect and the meal was pretty unimpressive. A real shame. The deep fried halloumi was good though.

Satnav directed us to this place and we thought we'd pull in and see what it was. My god! We thought we had taken a wrong turn at first as it's a bit of a hide away. We parked up and were greeted at the door by a lovely lady. We were seated and had drinks orders taken straight away. Also, whilst we browsed the menu we had a bowl of fresh bread brought over to enjoy (which we did!)

I have eaten here many, many times over the past ten years, I’ve never been disappointed on any occasion. Always my go to choice.

So great food, compliments to the chefs. We were a big group for a birthday. All started well, got our food then nothing. Nobody came round to check on us or ask us for any more drinks for the whole time we were there. After we’d all finished and waited for 40mins we had to ask someone to clear the table and get dessert menus. By this point half the group had had to leave.

We have not visited since the Beech Tree moved to new ownership. It was pleasing to see that the service was as friendly and professional as ever.

Sunday lunch with friends. Lovely place, nice building and good menu. Food was good although wouldn’t have the beef again as was a little dry for me. My only grumble was lack of service, staff were very pleasant and plenty of them but we sat with empty glasses for quite a while, nobody seemed to notice or come to table and i don’t expect to have to wave or shout across a room. In the end i went to the bar myself which in itself in a restaurant should be a red flag!

First time here though my friends visit quite frequent. The service was fantastic from start to finish.. food was outstanding, wasnt waiting long for food and it wasnt rushed. Will definitely come again. Lovely and quiet just on the outskirts of cardiff with easy access.
