Very meaty steak and Guinness pie with chips, petit pois and carrots. Absolutely delicious, only complaint was that the small portion was still too large and we had to leave lots on our plate. Good service and friendly staff.

What a lovely pub in such a friendly and pretty village. We both had lamb shanks which were tender and beautiful and then shared the delightful raspberry meringue nest, which was excellent. Excellent value for money and all served with a smile!

Went with several members of my family for a pre Christmas get together. We had ordered The Christmas Menu in advance and were not disappointed. The food was cooked to perfection and was served piping hot. The beef was cooked beautifully and the roast potatoes were really lovely and crispy. As always the staff were friendly and welcoming. All in all a great evening out and worth every penny.

Been here many times before for lunch and have always been pleased with the quality and value for money of the food and draught ales. This lunchtime though we were disappointed because our visit was spoiled by the attitude of the front of house bar staff. One of us asked if he could taste a beer he was interested in, and was flat out refused. Then we requested that our second drinks order could be taken at our table. Again, refused. When we came to pay we expressed our disappointment to the bar staff and were met with a sullen negative response. Finally, we were accused of not paying for an item of food and were able to point out it was the staff who had made the mistake. Despite the food and drink being excellent, we were left with a very sour taste in the mouth and will find it difficult to return any time soon.

As a local we tend to eat here every few months or so for special occasions. At short notice my wife and I decided to eat there last Friday. At lunchtime I booked the final table for that evening in the restaurant and was pleasantly surprised to see ribeye steak as that weeks' special. I have to say that I found it one of the best steaks I have ever eaten, cooked just right medium/well done, really tender and a good size. As steak is not a regular option on the menu I guess it was my lucky day!

I called in for a quiet pint and asked if I could try one of the beers which I hadn't heard of before. I was politely told told the pub doesn't allow anyone to try the beer before buying it. This is the first time I have ever been refused a taster in a pub since I was legally allowed to enter one 43 years ago. Having had no choice but to order a pint I now understand why they don't allow tasters. It was truly shocking! Avoid the Beaufort Arms at all costs and carry on to the excellent Fleece at Hillesley.

As pensioners and like a lot of people this year, money is tight. So we were looking forward to Christmas lunch here as a treat. Unfortunately, this was not the case. There were things omitted from the menu that was advertised, and generally the food was frugal, and poor. The prawns in the prawn cocktail were barely defrosted, and the pate advertised as coming with toast was served with crackers (the type used for cheese). The beef was tough and over cooked, and the parsnips advertised on the menu did not appear at all. The puddings were better, but coffee and mints turned out to be mints and a biscuit? I don't know if the cook was having a bad day, perhaps another function they were cooking for in another part of the building. For the money paid, and the food served to us, we felt disappointed and let down by somewhere we had been before and had a decent meal. We did not complain at the time because it would have made a bad day worse.

Well, as an older traditional pub, it's a little bit rough and quaint on the inside, but they have a wide range of excellent brews on tap and we were very pleasantly surprised when their quite affordable "light" lunches arrived, piping hot and perfectly cooked from the kitchen. delicious local meat balls in sauce and the best fish and chips we had in England. Staff were very friendly and happy to keep refilling our glasses with ice water on a hot day of walking the Cotswold Way. A few weeks ago we were in Bristol UK (from Australia) and we called in for a meal at this hotel. We made a reservation and all went well. The food was fair but nothing to right about. We have been home in Australia now two weeks and I received today by email a fine for parking in their car park. We were there for a total of 53 minutes (enough to have a meal) but our fine is 85 pound. Since endeavouring to find out what is going on I've read another Trip advisor warning and the owners reply says there are 16 signs warning. We never saw any sign and the grace period to contest the fine runs out tomorrow. On top of that Europcar our car hire company has charged us 40 pound administrative fee for passing on the notice. So a meal that cost us about 70 pound has turned out to cost us nearly 200 pound. Casual Diner beware.

My family & I have been coming to the Beaufort every year on our annual UK & this is my favorite for authenticity & people watching. There's an old man who sits in the same corner & makes the same jokes year after year. Though I can hardly understand his country accent, he's so entertaining to watch & he seems to have been assigned the role of managing the menu board. The super traditional decor of British paraphernalia with windows looking out on village quaintness makes it all the more of an experience. The service is friendly & efficient but the pub gets very crowded very quickly, even on a weekday. I've enjoyed both their lamb & chicken curries, flavorful but not spicy. I especially recommend this place for foreign visitors looking for the real deal English countryside experience.

My son refused to eat his pork as he said it tasted strange, and he is a very good eater. One tray of veg for all of us, we had to ask for more veg and gravy. The service was good. Called in for a quick pint with a couple of friends while visiting the area. Everywhere else we'd had friendly service - as you'd expect in such a tourist driven area. Not here though - not hostile, just a feeling that the staff were there for the locals, not us. I asked for a taster and got a no - only the 2nd time I've ever come across this. I see the landlord says he is against them because they were 'abused'. Really? Just serve them in shot glasses like any sensible publican. They encourage people to try beers they may not have done otherwise. And no you wouldn't ask a supermarket for a taster but you need to offer added value to attract drinkers away from cheap supermarket beer, not offer the same service at twice the price. I ended up in the Fleece Inn just up the road where the welcome could not have been friendlier, the landlord discussed his beers enthusiastically, tasters were offered spontaneously and the selection was twice as wide and twice as interesting as the predictable range on offer here.

We were served (drinks and snacks) by a very personable and friendly barmaid. Later we returned (just the boys this time). The bar was full of locals - men only - and the welcome might best be described as guarded. The barman/landlord failed to extend the hand of friendhip and, unless I have misinterpreted his sense of humour - Q: Is there a wifi code? A: Yes...(silence ensues)) - was not really interested in making visitors feel at home. A shame really, as it's an interesting old boozer and we are interesting old men!

We enjoyed our Sunday roast here with a group of our walking friends. Food was served promptly and was very good and the Apricot crumble with custard was excellent! However, it was extremely busy so not easy to get service at the bar.

On the Cotswold Way heading south, it is nearly 7 1/2 miles from Wotton-under-Edge to any settlement of any size. It was nice break, then, to leave the path briefly in Hawkesbury Upton and have a brief stop here, for a drink and a chance to use the facilities. The landlord was chatty and welcoming, and the decor of the pub is traditional without being grubby. It seems like a very archetypal village pub! A large party arrived while we were there but the size of the building negated any scramble for seats.

Its incredibly hard to find a good old fashioned traditional english pub serving up stellar food ,the same way it was 30 years ago, but here it is , the last surviving pub around this area doing just that.Huge meals , superbly cooked , even my Brazilian partner says its the best pub she has ever been to.Whatever dish you have , you will be full, satisfied and go away with a warm feeling.

Really nice welcome and good beer. The food was good but came almost from another age. Faggots were great but Bisto gravy almost over flowed the plate. So many chips I didn't find the peas until later. Partner had chosen really nice Ham but an undressed salad?

We called into the Beaufort arms on a trip out with parents. We have been a number of times and always enjoyed are meals. Friendly welcome and a good selection of beers. And a large menu to meet all tastes. We opted for the Chicken curry .Local faggots and the steak and Guinness pie which all were delicious and large. Smaller portions were available for the parents which was good.all in all a very happy experience and we will be coming back. Well worth trying.

This is an excellent place to enjoy a good meal. I was in the area and it was recommended. The landlord was very friendly and welcoming. Good traditional menu at very reasonable prices The large Cod and Chips is Large......The waitress was friendly and very efficient and brought standards normally associated with far more expensive eateries. The food was very well presented of good quality above all beautifully cooked. Clearly popular with locals even early evening, which is a good sign, parking at the back of the pub. These traditional pubs are very important as when lost they they will be gone forever they bring a certain nostalgia and this is a really good example - Try it it is worth the trip into the wonderful South Gloucestershire countryside

Visited on a busy Sunday at 2pm. Very surprised to see that food stopped at 2.30pm ! How ridiculous! When most of us can only cone out on a weekend, a food operator chooses to operate sociable hours for its staff ! In an industry that us suffering it us unforgivable these days to restrict your offering in this way. It was quaint when I was younger in the 1970s, but so outdated these days, and this is in The Cotswolds, where there are tourists and house hunters like us. Also we were told immediately dogs were unwelcome in the lounge and the busy server was not sure if they were dog friendly in the other bar (WE discovered they were ok) , so a big negative when the staff do not know the facilities on offer. We did not hang around as first impressions and first welcomes are most important to me particularly when I can go elsewhere, so we went to the Fox Inn instead ( and that's another interesting story)

The Beaufort Arms does lovely pub grub. I had lovely tender minty lamb shank and the other half had melt in the mouth lamb and apricot curry. The beer was excellent, too. I can highly recommend the Sunday roasts too.

We visited the Beaufort Arms after a day walking the Cotswold Way. Great local atmosphere, and full on a Sunday evening (watch this, may be worth booking a table). Really good range of some of the best value pub food we have come across in years- mains at £7-10, immense portions, option to go for half size meals at £4.50 - remarkable! Recommend the faggots - first time I have seen these since my childhood!

This is the second time I've been here in 4 weeks. This place seems popular every day of the week! I didn't eat last time but took a long walk and ate here with my sister today. The menu is simple, a choice of normal pub grub or smaller bites at only £4.95. We had a combination of the two and both portion sizes were generous. The staff are really friendly and in the ball, the food was well cooked and came out in good time. The coffee isn't fantastic but people don't normally go to pubs for coffee and it shouldn't put you off! Card transactions fine over £10.00.Will definitely be back!

Rang to book a table on Sunday morning and was told we could have the last available table - and I'm delighted they fitted us in. Mark, the landlord greeted us warmly and showed us to our table. My Dursley Donkey ale was excellent. I had roast beef and my partner the chicken. Both came as good size portions. The roast potatoes were as good as home-made - crispy outside and fluffy inside. The side plate of vegetables was well cooked and the cauliflower cheese delicious. The puddings were a limited choice but still very good. I'd say this was as good a Sunday lunch as I've ever eaten - we'll definitely be returning.

This free house is amazing. For lunch they have a small portions menu, so for five pounds each we ate reasonable portions of properly cooked fish and chips. The friendly bar tender helped us navigate the local ciders and book a table for dinner. The locals in this pub were very welcoming, friendly, curious, and conversational. The steak and ale pie for dinner was meaty and delicious, and don’t get me started on the gooseberry crumble dessert. This place was a gem, one of our favorite pubs along the trail. Highly recommended to Cotswold Way walkers.

It's a nice pub, dog friendly which I love as I have 3 dogs. Very disappointed to see customers there who are known by the staff with a dog on the seats. I love dogs but don't want my clothes covered in dog hair

The Rose and Crown hosted our 25th Anniversary party and they were outstanding. The food was fabulous and commented on by many, their flexibility on the room arrangements was superb. On the night the bar staff which consisted of Joe, Dan and Georgie were awesome. A big thank you to Rhianne and Jamie for hosting us. OMG xxx
