The Bear Inn in Carmarthenshire

We stopped in Llandovery on an impulse coming back from the coast one Sunday evening and all at The Bear couldn’t have been nicer. They made a room available at short notice, fed us extremely tasty Thai veggie food and generally couldn’t have been more welcoming. They even pointed us in the direction of a truly and filthily delicious bacon roll in the morning. Lovely. Given half a chance we’ll be back.

We stopped en route for a quick lunch at The Bear Inn. What a find. This place is a gem. We were made to feel so welcome and the service was excellent. There was an interesting selection of meals on the menu and the authentic food was delicious. I can highly recommend this pub.

When we came in the waitress called Caitlin was really nice and kind the food was nice and Tom came over to use and was really nice will definitely come back again

I stayed in the top loft room which was lush and very well presented and private with a nice cottage feel. It was lovely to come back after a long day out to a clean room, with amneties restocked each night of my week stay. The staff were lovely and the food was very tasty and matched the price well.

Lovely dinner at the bear this evening, great service and really tasty food. The vegan desserts are a must.

Good welcome, great service and tasty and good value food. Had the beetroot and mushroom burger with slaw and sweet potato fries. Really tasty and well presented.

The food here is fantastic, just had another delicious meal. Tried the beetroot and mushroom burger with sweet potato fries, onion rings, salad and coleslaw. Not only is the service extremely good, the whole vibe is relaxing and friendly. Cannot wait for another trip here. I'm not vegan or vegetarian but still one of the best places all round I have ever eaten in.

Came here based on it being no1 on trip advisor and should absolutely stay there! Quirky pub doing vegan Thai food that is delicious. The service was amazing particularly from David, and the rest of the guys give it a really friendly fun atmosphere even when it’s quiet. Highly recommend - despite us not being vegan the food was really good we really enjoyed it and left in high spirits with full bellies

The pub was decorated earlier in 2021 and we popped in for lunch on the off chance. Surprised and happy to see that the lunch menu was mostly Thai dishes instead of the usual scampi and burger. The food quality was top class and while eating our meals we could hear voices from the kitchen and I am pretty sure that the lady chef is actually Thai which would explain the quality of the food. My wife is ultra fussy and she loved the food too. The Bear is also dog friendly and the staff are very welcoming

We popped in for a drink, and ended up having dinner. The staff were super friendly, the room was nice and the food was superb. Thanks very much!

Stayed overnight at this most charming of venues. Our room was lovely, quirky, small but beautifully formed and very comfortable.Everything was spotlessly clean and immaculate. Had a lovely chat with the friendly, personable Housekeeper in the morning, who made us feel very welcome. Can't wait to return... would rate 11/10 !

Vegan and veggie surprise! This place is well worth the visit if your after punchy, flavoursome & tasty food! I run a restaurant and want this chef!!!!

A charming country pub which gets everything right! Lovely decor, friendly staff and a very relaxed vibe. The food was top notch vegan fare and as a chef myself I’m not easily impressed. We had the bruschetta (which was yummy and enough for two!) with a red and green curry. Even the coconut rice was special and they had cheesecake too! Well done to the team for daring to be so different. Special shout-out to our energetic waitress Stacey, we wanted for nothing and neither will you!

We needed to grab some lunch and I had heard good things about the bear...all I can say is go,eat all the yummy things you will not be disappointed! I have waaay too many things i can't eat due to allergies and intolerance...but this was no worries at all! The food was great, Tom was brilliant at making sure I ate something mega and recommended a great dish for my husband too! Good choice of drinks,lovely atmosphere, great service, simple menu but it had the flavours...honestly one of the best places I have eaten out at for a long time! Thankyou for being awesome! Keep doing what you do and we will be back for sure!

Really well presented little inn with incredibly good food, loads of vegan choices, and great staff (shout out to Tom!). Thoroughly recommend it, even for non-vegans and vegetarians.

I stayed at the Bear Inn for three nights and ate at the restaurant every night. I had no desire to go anywhere else! The food was delicious and made with love. The service was wonderful and welcoming. What a refreshing change to eat vegetarian and not miss meat in the least. I will definitely return when I am back in the area. cosy and well presented throughout. arrived at 7pm. had the bruschetta to start and the dahl with coconut rice for main. delicious hot food served by Stacey who was friendly, and helpful. decided to have the biscoff cheesecake for desert. would definately go here again and i can imagine this place is just as wonderful in the summertime.

We came in search of good vegan food and sadly left disappointed! The chips and garlic mayo were delicious. Sadly, the nine bean ‘stew’ and rice dish, despite being beautifully presented, was completely tasteless. When I gave feedback, the waiter said the food is better in the evening . Friendly staff

We have wanted to visit in for ages! Today we finally did and wow it was defo worth the 2hr round trip!On arrival into the bar area Katie greeted us and later took our order, super friendly and smiley. We moved into the middle room after a large family and dogs arrived in the bar and what a lovely space! The menu is fantastic, just what we love! We totally over ordered as it was so hard to find any sort of willpower David and Hai served our food and additional drinks, checked on us and made sure we were well looked after throughout. The food was just wonderful, fresh, full of flavour, plenty of it and served with a smile. Literally couldn't have asked for a better experience.We paid at the front counter and saw 2 vegan cakes in the chiller but was too full even for takeaway pud! Shocking!We will 100% be back, definitely recommend going, don't hesitate, just go!! You won't be disappointed!!

The Thai green and red curries were very good, as was the GF cheesecake. Our waiter, Katie, was excellent. The atmosphere and 'nook and cranny' layout makes this a special place.

Really nice stay at the Bear inn. I had such a good sleep that I needed to email to find out where their pillows were from, because they are much better than mine at home. Also the lamps were really cool :D. The road outside was a little loud in the mornings with forestry vehicles passing, but thats not the hotels fault - we had the windows open. Would highly recommend the food too, im not vegan but i loved it.

What a lovely pub. Cosy rooms and great outside space with dogs welcome in the bar. Food is a selection of Asian curries. Vegetarian and vegan. I'm not a vegetarian but really recommend the food. So authentic. The staff and owners were so friendly. Will definitely be returning, possible on the bike as car park right opposite the bar door.

We would like to thank Cerys for the coffee that she made us when we visited the Bear Inn. My partner and I both had oat milk cappuccinos and it was the best coffee we have tasted in a long, long time! When a coffee is put in front of you and you can tell it is going to taste good just by looking at it...this was how this coffee looked! And it tasted even better!p.s. tell Katey when we visit next, we will be testing her coffee making skills Keep up the good work girls, you're doing fab!!! Ryan & Marianne.

My friend and I had a light lunch, and we enjoyed the food and coffee very much. Staff were helpful and polite, and we were served quickly. I only have a few recommendations, a non-alcoholic drinks menu would be great and also having a bill breakdown at the end of the meal. Whilst I have no doubt that the bill was correct it would have been great to have been presented with a bill instead of being told. Especially if I was treating friends or family to meal, I would not want them to know how much it had cost. On the other hand when you go put with friends, generally you like to split the bill, so again having a paper copy would be great. We will definitely be coming back for an evening meal soon.

Called here on my way home this week and was delighted with what I had. I had a vegetarian Thai Red Curry with rice with a side portion of chips. More than enough and very tasty - additional heat available if preferred. Delicious desert also.

Went to the bear for an evening meal on a friday night, the staff were so friendly, welcoming and polite at all times. The decor was so cosy, warm and inviting. And don’t even get me started about the food, it was FANTASTIC!!! The noodles and the thai green curry were out of this world. Definitely returning soon for another wonderful experience. Very welcoming staff. We sat outside (in the rain) and the waiter brought us an umbrella. The food was lovely, a great range of interesting Asian veggie food - the Thai green curry and Singapore noodles were favourites on an autumnal day! Good beer too!

Amazing food, beautifully & comfortably decorated, wonderful staff team - highly recommended. We ate lunch, dinner and stayed overnight and thoroughly enjoyed everything at this vegan vegetatian pub with an environmental and community conscience. At lunch i had (vegan) bruschetta, salad and triple cooked chips with vegan cheesecake and amazing coffee later. Hubby had (vegetarian) ciabatta triple cooked chips, chocolate and honeycomb cheesecake and coffee. We both agreed it was delicious.The room we stayed in was beautiful and so comfortable. We ate vietnamese congee and rice (vegan) at dinner which was our first congee and yummy. The wine list is clearly marked with lots of vegan choice, we had a lovely sicilian red and prosecco.

Menu not huge but with recommendations from Jean (our lovely hostess) - had a lovely meal. I can absolutely recommend the egg noodles and honeycomb & nougat cheesecake. We are not vegetarian or vegan but would certainly return if we were more local.

The staff were very hospitable and Jean (upstairs/downstairs) our waitress was excellent and informative regarding the menu.. The decor was (nice) quirky and the restaurant was very clean, neat and tidy. The menu you is limited and we are not vegetarian or vegan, but don’t let that put you off visiting - the food is excellent. Martin came to talk to us after our meal and listened to our views and compliments. We are not local, just passing through, but if we were we would be regular visitors.

Fantastic food and atmosphere. All staff are so friendly and the service was great. Elizabeth served us this evening and couldn't ask for better service. Food was delicious and even had dessert. I’m not a vegetarian but this place is unreal. The food is great and the staff were the nicest people I’ve met in Wales (or the UK). It’s a great new pub/restaurant and hope to be back soon! Cerys the waitress and Mark the owner were so lovely and hope to see them again. All the best!

The whole menu is vegetarian/vegan, so is a bright beacon in Wales for any seeking a more sustainable food option. Myself being a meat eater, I still managed to find a meal that I enjoyed thoroughly - the starters are to die for!! The staff are so friendly and passionate about this new pub and our waitress Cerys went above and beyond to make us feel welcome - not to mention Mark the owner was a delight to meet also! Will definitely be returning next time we visit Llandovery :)

Met up with some friends here for lunch. We ate in the farmers bar as we had dogs with us. The food was lovely, we all had ciabatta. The owner was very friendly and explained that the place has only been in their hands for 9 weeks. A great place for veggie and vegan food where dogs are welcome.

Had a gorgeous meal with my family, great to see a vegetarian menu that was full of flavour. Was served by the lovely Caitlin who was friendly and helpful, will definitely be going back.

Great taste, but overpriced for thin soup and rice. That said, the food was good and in that respect I really can’t fault it, but it was tbh, soup and rice for around £13.50 tbh a portion. I had the Dal (soup) and my husband had the red Thai (some chunks of veg). We also ordered a portion of chips, which were nice. However, we were and still are hungry. I love vegetarian food and we eat it often, but I really would have liked more substance for the price. Overall bill was £45 for 2 mains, 1 portion of chips and 4 pints so not completely over the top, but I am hungry!

Couldn’t have been more delighted with our experience at The Bear. Six of us chose a seat outside, were greeted by enthusiastic staff and offered menus and drinks immediately despite how busy they were in a weekend lunchtime rush. The food when it arrived was prompt, incredibly fresh and very tasty. So pleased to have great tasting veggie food in Llandovery where we come each year. The service was so good and the food so delicious, we’re seriously considering another unscheduled visit to the village in the not too distant future, hopefully at one of The Bear’s rooms! Two of our party also spent a lot of a quiet weekday with hot drinks and good books in The Bear on the same trip, and yet again we experienced wonderfully personalised service, excellent food and velvety hot chocolates, and as we were seated inside this time, we’re surprised by really fresh, cosy, comfy decor with lots of plants. We also had the pleasure of meeting the owner and head chef who talked to us about the Buddhist philosophy behind their menu and we couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome. We’d highly recommend The Bear as a friendly and welcoming place to rest, grab a drink, and eat some delicious veggie/vegan food. We’ll be back for sure, each time we visit Llandovery!

Lovely welcome by who I think was the owner and handed over to a delightful waitress who looked after us with her expertise on the menu and recommendations. Drinks served immediately followed by our dinner which came quickly. I'd definitely recommend the dhal curry and the beer battered onion rings. The green Thai curry was slightly too spicy hot but still enjoyable. Lovely surroundings in relaxed atmosphere. Fab staff. I'd definitely visit again when in the area. Thankyou Bear Inn❣️

Nice food, friendly service in a fabulously bright and cheerful environment. (They only offered vegetarian options on the menu so as long as you are aware of this then you should have no reason to complain). We loved the cheeky young lad who served us, son of the owners I believe.The Bear has certainly added a bit of colour to Llandovery and I look forward to returning

This place is a joke run by two guys who think they are it and have potty mouths. Foul language. Don’t eat here unless you want to spend the night on the toilet. Veggie food but not fit for the dog unless you like eating caterpillars. Don’t complain about the food or it will go into the microwave and come back to your table. Your better off eating at The Castle (opposite side of the road). They have a lovely rear garden where you can sit to avoid the road noise. Prices are obscenely high and service is terrible. Don’t expect a warm welcome when you arrive and trying to get a menu, you’ll be waiting a long time. Don’t sit outside or you’ll be ignored. They have been reported due to the way they treat their staff which is disgusting. None of your money is going through the tax man, they pay their staff and maintenance staff from the till.Thai boy (13 year old) is their to simply talk to customers to get good reviews. Seems awfully sly. BEWARE AND AVOID.

My wife and I are both gluten free, so finding the right place to est is very important far us.We happened to drive through Llandovery and noticed a vegetarian vegan and gluten free sign, at the Bear Inn, what a brilliant find, recently under new management the Bear Inn is now a vegetarian restaurant. On entry we met Katie who was absolutely brilliant, talked us through the menu and took us to our table, the place is a quaint village Inn with loads of different rooms to choose from depending on your fancy, the food was amazing and at a great price. I have already told my family and friends. This place is well worth a visit.

The veggie and vegan food this place provides is second to none, it is authentic, creative and delicious! The customer service is some of the best I have ever experienced, the chefs came and spoke to us personally and the waiting staff were quick and attentive! Very friendly and welcoming! Like they're welcoming you into their home! The decor is stunning and I'm obsessed with the orange exterior and beautiful flowers! Definitely my new regular spot, I want to try out the whole menu!

Love Thai food and wasn't disappointed, friendly and welcoming staff. The chef came out and thanked me personally for complimenting her on the dish. If you're passing through or live in the area I'd definitely recommend popping in.

First time of calling in for a hot chocolate and it was lovely staff very welcoming and thank you Caitlin the waitress

Stumbled across the place after visiting the area and decided to give it a try. So glad we did as the menu was all vegetarian, which made such a nice change to have options for once! The lunch menu is mainly thai inspired with a selection of different ciabatta options too. I had 'food envy' everytime someones food got brought out from the kitchen and you could tell everything was freshly made to order. We had absolutely no trouble with the service and got round the issue of there being no kids menu by ordering our 3 and 5 year old a couple of sides to share. Overall a pleasant change to a usual lunch menu and would definitely recommend.

Visited lunchtime yesterday (Tuesday, 31st August 2021) with my daughter and 2 year old granddaughter. We had a small dog which was allowed in the rear bar. No children’s options on the menu but we were offered a bowl of rice or something! It was a very mismatched and limited menu of either ‘Asian’ inspired main dishes (3 dishes as I recall) or a few ciabatta sandwiches, which was recommended to us. We were attracted by the triple cooked gourmet chips they came with, which were a complete joke, they were just thick and very dry frozen chips, served in a tiny frying basket. My Mediterranean vegetable and mozzarella ciabatta had some token vegetables (red and yellow pepper and courgette) and some sorry looking thin pieces of mozzarella but was bulked up with some boring packet lettuce. It was really tasteless and even adding salt did little to improve the flavour.We heard one of the kitchen staff come out to his mother who sat at a table and he said ‘I hope you haven’t come here for food as I can’t be arsed to cook’! This attitude certainly accounted for the lack of passion in the preparation of our food too. My daughter had a cheese and chutney ciabatta which was mediocre. My granddaughter didn’t like either of the ciabattas and ate just a few chips. Other than the dry ‘gourmet’ frozen chips there was a few sad looking packet salad leaves with a little grated carrot and a couple of sliced mini tomato pieces which looked like they’d been cut some time before, tasting a little fermented, a balsamic glaze was on top of the little portion of salad.I didn’t complain to begin with as we were quite hungry. The older lady with dark hair called out from the bar whist we were eating asking if everything was ok, I said fine as we really just wanted to eat up and leave. There is clearly a lack of genuine customer service here and a can’t be bothered attitude, although there was a younger girl there who was much more pleasant, it really didn’t make up for the mediocre food. There was a young lad in the kitchen/behind bar who just looked awkward and stared at us which was a bit disconcerting.At the end I asked for the bill which the older lady said was about £21.50 or so but I only had £20 in cash on me so I was waiting for my daughter to come back from the car with the pram as she had the money. I told the lady that I was not very happy with the food, she asked what was wrong and I explained that the food was tasteless and I just had a few token vegetables in mine and that the ‘gourmet’ triple fried chips were just thick frozen chips, she agreed that they were frozen, then said call it £20 then, took the money and disappeared into the kitchen. I expected her to be speaking to the kitchen staff and was waiting for her to come back from the kitchen with some explanation/ an apology, we waited for a while but she never returned, so we left. Had she (I presume the owner) come to the table during our meal to ask how the food was, I could have explained I was disappointed with it, however I’m not in the business of shouting across to the bar in front of other customers when I’m unhappy. Also had she offered a genuine apology then we could have sorted this out at the time and I would not have felt the need to leave this review.As a newly opened place, the outside with its striking orange paint and lovely flowers looked welcoming but that welcome did not carry through into the pub. Unless they broaden the menu, up their game on the quality of the food and improve customer service they won’t last long. I will not be returning.

The bear looks great on the outside, going in the front doors sets up the scene & gets you in the mood. Though once we managed to sit down (unfortunately) in one of the side rooms by the road we found the service wasn’t great. Ordered our drinks eventually but the Gin and tonic that came was ready mixed in the glass, which when questioned the young lad said it wasn’t me, it was him pointing to a colleague. Not offering to rectify the problem or own/deal with it, which infuriated one of our party.The lunch options were limited, but it was ok, nothing exciting.To be honest the second time we revisited Llandovery we decided to skip the bear, despite another visiting guests interest to check it out. Much better meal & service in the The Castle hotel/bar just across the road.

The Bear is a refreshing change to see a vegetarian restaurant in rural Wales. The service was excellent, Jean our waitress was brilliant, and the food was even better- fresh and delicious. The Bear is well worth your time and you will not regret eating here.

So we visited the resturant for the second time and I have to say, consistency is evident here. On arrival, we received a very friendy greeting and we were seated without a reservation. Front of house presented a welcoming atmosphere and our waiter was very efficient. Our food arrived promptly, was hot and a joy to eat. We ordered the Congee dish with a chilli sauce that accompany it. OMG, my wife and I were asking where we could buy the source by the end of the meal. For a vegan/vegetarian resturant dining here was more like going to an old friend's house for dinner. We enjoyed the experience imensely.

We visited the Bear Inn today as we loved the look of the exterior. We hadn't realised the menu was Vegan/Vegetarian so may not have picked the Bear for Sunday lunch. Guess what ...we absolutely loved it ! I had Thai curry with pineapple rice which was bursting with flavour ,my husband chose Ciabbatta with cheese and chutney with chips .The service was great ,we enjoyed chatting to the young staff who were really enthusiastic and friendly .Special mention to Hai who was doing a great job watering the beautiful plants ..no wonder the Bear was awarded Gold for best business floral display ! We will be back

This place looks beautiful inside out with great sitting areas all around. On top of that, this place offered some high quality vegan and vegetarian food that is quite unusual to find away from London. The presentation of the food was excellent and the staff was very presentable. The icing on the cake was the chef and the owner herself, who we found to be very humble and kind. Would recommend this place to anyone looking for high quality vegetarian and vegan food.

My fiancé and I went to the The Bear Inn this evening, we absolutely loved the food. He had the red Thai curry which was nice and hot but still so flavoursome and I had the Sri Lankan curry which was mild but still had so much flavour it was lovely. The starters that were available didn’t match the mains we felt, and felt like they should have been sides, but they were still cooked really well. The waiting staff were quite young and we think newish, however they did a good job, though we think they probably needed a bit more training. We chatted to the owner who was nice and friendly, the place had a good atmosphere. Unfortunately we’re not from the area but if we’re ever around here again we’d definitely make the effort to come back.

We came across this restaurant by chance as we were staying nearby and truly believed we'd struck gold at finding somewhere to dine that accurately accommodated our dietary requirements (pescatarian/vegetarian). We were treated to a beautiful, flavoursome, home-cooked meal which did not disappoint. Our only regret is at not discovering it sooner!

Absolutely outstanding food! Visited The bear Inn while passing through Llandovery! A very friendly atmosphere, menu is minimal but the food was to die for! A massive thank you to all at the bear, the staff are so friendly and very happy to chat! I will definitely be back! A special thank you to the young chef who I believe was called Ryan, you really did an amazing job with the food! Also Hai, the young waiter, he was absolutely awesome and really did make us laugh! We loved the food it was soooo tastyThe Bear Inn is tastefully decorated has a lovely atmosphere and I loved the enthusiasm of the young happy staff. Good beers and wines on offer. The sharing platter as a starter with breads and Olives was excellent.

Was recommended to this pub and wasn’t dissatisfied with the food. Had the Noodles which come with your own sauce bottle to make as hot as you want. Partner had red Thai curry which was hot. Desserts were cheesecake and brownie. All food tasted fantastic and was impeccably presented. Choice of two draft lagers and the wine list had good choices. Why only four out of five? The service was all over the place. Our food was ordered and then we were asked if we wanted to order. Then we had to ask two different people for desserts. Finally, had to again ask three different people for the bill. Was a case of ‘too many chiefs and not enough Indians’ . Don’t be put off by this though. Finally, this is a vegan/vegetarian only, not a morsel of meat to be seen.

Great vegetarian dinner after a day hiking the neighbouring park. The portions were generous and the dishes really rich in flavours. The Vietnamese owner/chef is working marvels in the kitchen that will definitely give you a welcome change to the traditional pub grub on offer around. And the staff, although still navigating the intricacies of hospitality (the restaurant opened just six weeks before our visit), did live up to the expectations with a friendly, amicable service full of attention. A strong recommendation from us, especially at the affordable price on offer.

Amazing food and service from the guys at the bear, saw it as we were passing through town and stopped for a bit of lunch, communication was top notch and they were well on it with letting us know when we could order as they had a lot of people ordering food, staff were incredibly sweet and friendly and kept our glasses full while we waited for food, they even sorted us out with a tasty hummus and roast veg combo!Honestly amazing food and good vibes.

Something I can’t quite put my finger on ....it’s now vegan/vegetarian which is what attracted us . The menu is just not quite right , it claims to be Asian inspired and all the main courses are , although limited choices ( I think 4 poss 5) but all starters and desserts are non Asian , things like garlic bread ,halloumi fries etc. I think at least have one or two Asian ones to keep up the theme ? Main choices were good not great , lacked some flavour . Service was generally good and loved the actual look and feel of the place inside.

My husband and I stumbled across this pub on an unplanned mid week evening out. It looked fantastic from the outside and the inside was just as good. The menu was exciting - just the right amount of dishes offered; an Asian fusion. The food was well presented and delicious. We were very well treated from the start by Addi and later by Hai. An enjoyable evening out, one we hope to repeat.

I stubbled across the Bear Inn whilst walking the Cambrian way in Wales, I was drawn in by the vibrant Orange paint job. I can honestly say it’s one of the best pub experiences I have ever had. They catered for my dietary needs. The wine selection was top drawer. The staff, well, I can’t say enough. I arrived on a night when they had had quite a few difficult customers. Yet they still served me with smiles on their faces and with the greatest courtesy. I will now forever make this a base for future holidays in Wales. A must try for anyone visiting Llandovery!!!

We visited the Bear Inn one evening last week to have some food and I must say the interior is so relaxing and welcoming. The table service and staff was amazing. The menu choice is exciting and fresh. We had the green Thai curry and Singapore noodles, it was delicious. It was so nice to go out to eat something different to usual, it was definitely a good choice to try something new, we will 100% be going back to try out some more of the menu:) We had polite staff all evening and fast service on our food and drinks and Great seating area. Highly recommend.

What an amazing find! From the outside it looks like a pub so we decided to pop in for a drink but we were delighted to discover a fantastic vegetarian and vegan menu with lots of Asian inspired dishes. The food was incredible and the service exemplary. We were served by a young waiter called Addi, who was a real credit to the establishment. As a newly re-opened venue, I really hope they continue to do well! We will be back :)

Called into the Bear Inn one afternoon after instantly spotting it whilst walking by! The orange pub definitely stands out on the street of Llandovery. I had a couple of drinks outside and I was greeted kindly instantly by the staff. Customer service was great and fast. I definitely recommend visiting if you’re passing by as it’s such a relaxing pub to sit outside on a nice day surrounded by flowers and welcoming staff. Will be back soon:)

We were staying in the area and were looking for a nice place to have a meal out which had a dog friendly policy. The meal was lovely Asian vegetarian style. Good amount of food reasonable pricing. Staff are very nice. All around a good experience and so much better than the chain type pubs.

Under New Ownership & very much OPEN. Excellent service, all re-vamped inside and out and retaining oodles of character. Great couple running it with verve. Concentrating on catering for people with allergies as well as Vegan & Vegetarian tastes with a slanting towards Thai & Asian cuisine but still with other options available. Seating in & outside, ambiance good right on the edge of the town Square and next to what is probably the most attractive post office/gift shop in Wales. It’s getting very popular so best to book for evenings/parties etc. Parking in town car park very reasonable just across the road behind the visitors centre. Also opposite a newish refill store so remember to bring your empties & stock up.

We had a really lovely dinner in the Bear Inn, the place is cosy and quirky with the little separate dining rooms and unique decor. The food was the best I’ve had out in a long time. I had the daal which was flavoursome and filling, and my partner a green curry which was super tasty, only thing that would have upped it was if there was some tofu or paneer in it rather than just veggies. The olive starter was delicious and great value for money with dips, bread and salad too. I was very pleased to see they had a wine list too! We will definitely be going back!

I visited here with a friend on 11th August and we had an amazing meal. The staff were friendly and helpful. The young man that served us was so polite and professional and I'm sure is a treasured member of staff.My friend had Noodles and I had Green Curry both of which were exceptional.and the vegan cheese cake was the best I've ever had.

Good food and friendly staff, dog friendly restaurant situated in a lovely village. However, we were concerned with how the owner was treating a young waiter who was clearly trying his best to learn and help customers including ourselves. Owner repeatedly made negative comments about this individuals past performances, in front of multiple customers, in what appeared to be an attempt to belittle and bully him, rather than actually help with his performance. That was the only negative about this restaurant; that aside, it was very nice vegetarian / vegan food and very clean.

Heard good things about the new owners and their menu so popped over from Brecon one rainy Saturday afternoon. Food was generally different, tasty & excellent; service from Hai was attentive - he will be great when he finds his feet - and loved the decor and ambience. Kitchen service and timing was spot on. It was just the 25 minute wait for coffee a new bill that stops me from fully endorsing this lovely bar/restaurant/B&B…..we weren’t the only customers waiting for coffee and bills. Just teething troubles I hope. We will be back so please go and have a treat for your selves. Well worth the visit.

I was staying in Llandovery and popped into The Bear for an evening drink and felt extremely comfortable there as a lone female traveller. I decided to order some food and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. I had halloumi fries for starter and vegetable greenThai curry for my main, it was delicious. I returned the next evening for my evening meal and ate there most evenings. The landlord Martin was most hospitable and always made me very welcome, the staff were very friendly too.My only criticism would be the limited choice on the menu but I would recommend The Bear very highly and would definitely return if I was in Llandovery again.

Firstly, I don't normally review where I stay, but as this is a new business, I felt that the least I could do is show my support. I found this place unintentionally. I needed somewhere to stay and there was a vacancy ! And what a place it is ! The exterior is an amazing bright orange and filled with so many beautiful flowers, it certainly catches the eye. I'm a seasoned traveller particularly for work so have stayed in many many hotels and B&Bs all over the world, this was right up with the best , mainly because of it's uniqueness.My room and bathroom were spotless, and clearly well cared for. It was indeed pristine, with full tea and coffee facilities and a TV.A decent night's sleep is a must for any guest and I certainly had one despite the rooms being above the pub/restaurant, which can sometimes be off putting.I didnt get to sample the food but the menu , albeit it small, looked amazing and I plan on returning for a few nights next time round.The staff upon arrival and departure were very pleasant and friendly and really couldn't do enough for me.Very impressed !

Wonderful venue, lovely vegan Sri Lankan dhal and friendly service, especially from entertaining and youthful Hai. Llandovery is fortunate to have such a welcoming venue.

A great experience. Martin and Han - (owner and chef extraordinaire) were very welcoming. Very accommodating to our needs with a 6 week old. We are living in Manchester and visiting family. Have not had a Thai Red Curry as good up there! Would definitely recommend the SE Asian food, however if not for you the pub itself has a great atmosphere and pub classics on the menu. 5 stars.

Turned up without a reservation, seated with drink and eating within 30 minutes. Buddhist inspired recipe's with emphasis on vegan and vegetarian. Don't let this put you off, the food was excellent, the service exceptional, and the cost was very reasonable Highly recommended.

My lovely wife and I were very impressed with this little café, restaurant and bar on Llandovery's Market Square. It serves up mainly vegan, mainly Asian-inspired dishes. We tried a number of their main courses over a couple of visits including the Singapore noodles, the Thai red curry and the halloumi panini. Everything was really good. They also make a good oat milk flat white. The owner and the staff are very friendly and made us feel really welcome. A real unexpected find in a small Welsh town!PS Some of the older reviews relate to the time before the current owners took charge so please ignore any references to Polish sausages and the like!

Friendly, accommodating staff who really care that you have a good experience. Food is absolutely gorgeous (I had green thai curry and salted caramel cheesecake-delicious!) Staff seem to really like working there and this reflects in the atmosphere. Definitely a new local favourite eatery

The vegan red Thai curry with pineapple fried rice was the tastiest thing I've eaten in a restaurant for a long time and I'm not even a vegetarian. Bags of flavour and properly hot.

Popped in to The Bear for a lunchtime snack with visiting family, all 8 of us including a vocal infant!We were welcomed by warm & friendly staff & received great service, food & drinks.Special thanks to young Hai who was patient, friendly & courteous.Thank you again for your kindness & hospitality....well done.

A great evening out which turned into a disastrous night when none of the local taxis were answering to come and pick us up. Lovely chat to staff members and served promptly. Staff are friendly and chatty and will take the time to talk if you want to talk to them. Me and the partner got very drunk and had a great time chatting to all the staff members who were probably wishing we'd leave so they could go home. Would like to say a massive thank you to Adi, Ryan and Hai who made sure me and my partner got home safely. Not sure I'll be able to return after the embarrassment I caused my self and my partner but considering this place hasn't been open long it's a great place to go. Visited the bear a few times during my stay and food is delicious, can be a long wait to be given a menu and for food to arrive but the place are just finding their bearings. Always busy every time I went but such a welcoming atmosphere, if I can cope with the embarrassment I definitely will be returning. Thank you.

If you want a mix of comedy and good food, The Bear Inn is for you.First of all, upon arrival, make sure you sit on the armchairs by the table in the corner. Why? Because the coffee machine in the kitchen has a hole behind it in the wall and you can hear everything. This leads to such great gems as "I've scolded myself!", "Don't take this the wrong way but you're like my ex girlfriend's mum" and lots of swearing as they try to figure out who ordered what.Next, when you sit down, you probably won't be offered a menu, so make sure you ask one of the dozen staff running around. Get used to seeing a different face every time you are served. Then, you'll be asked if you're ready to order drinks, by as many as three different members of staff. Sometimes even if you have two full pint glasses on the table already.When you eventually get a menu, none of the members of staff will ask to take your order, so make sure you call one over.When we went, there was a young boy who was 13 at oldest, a young girl on her very first day (trying hard, to her credit), and a few other random people serving. At one point, another table was asked by a man if their meal was okay. They gave constructive feedback, to which he was a bit abrasive.That table assumed it was the owner. Another member of staff said he was the landlord of the building. During our time there, he asked every single table about their meal. We have no idea why.Next is the long 20-25 minute wait for food. Don't worry though, treat this as a comedy show, becuase you can sit back and watch everyone else get service just as bad as you from afar. The highlight for us was the young boy showing a couple to their table as he walked along banging himself on the head with a serving tray.Another highlight was when a couple asked him to wipe a table. He replied that he didn't have a cloth and asked if they still wanted him to clean it. He did however have the cleaning spray which he left on the table for minutes as he disappeared. He ran off and found a cloth, then sprayed them as he sprayed the table.The food, it's fair to say, when it does arrive, is very good, and the reason for the three stars. You get your food separately, and have to remind them what you ordered, then ask repeatedly for your sides, but it is nice to eat.There are also cool Hammer Horror posters on the way to the loo.In summary, this place is a shambles. A funny, endearing shambles, that serves nice food. I won't go back, and I wish I was drunk for the experience, but it makes a good TripAdvisor review. Good luck.

We had a great night for a big family meal with super tasty food at the Bear Inn. The service couldn’t have been better and more accommodation. Hai did a great job waiting on us and the new owners kept us well informed about everything. Would def come back for coffee and cake in the daytime, the renovations make the rooms lovely and cosy. Dog friendly !

I visited the Bear inn within they're 1st week of opening, & I thoroughly enjoyed! I was delighted to see the Authentic Asian inspired Vegetarian & Vegan Menu, which suits myself & my Family. I visited tithe Bear Inn a few times throughout my stay in Llandovery, & I would definitely come back again! The Menu has grown & there are more dishes that I am excited to try!! Friendly staff & Cosy, peaceful atmosphere, Best cider on tap I've ever had in my life!! 10/10 Excellent!

Whilst travelling round west Wales came to the town of llandovery and decided to stop off for a coffee and lunch. We headed to the colourful Bear Inn. It was a delightful visit and the staff were friendly and cheerful and made us feel very welcome. Food was of excellent quality but is geared towards vegans. I was also struck by how clean and tidy the place was. Toilets were spotless and the hotel is to be commended for its cleanliness. Would certainly return when next in area.
