First Visit and won’t be our last, Very welcoming and friendly. Dogs welcome and the landlady was lovely to our dog and other peoples dog. Food was outstanding all fresh ingredients and chips were very tasty not greasy. Meal we had was Gammon, egg, chips with side salad and peas. Gammon was super moist. Chicken in creamy mushroom sauce and chips. Chicken was super moist lovely sauce. 2 pints of cloudy cider Price was £41.50

Not our first time here. It was tapas Thursday but on the specials board there was cawl. Had to have it,didn't realise it was only a starter.Was amazing, So nice I ordered a cawl to take away and had it as soon as I got home. Thought I had died and gone to heaven. Amazing food

Very nice traditional styled pub. Recently reopened under new ownership I understand, this pub had a very nice, homely, and characterful feel and that’s a compliment. The staff were very welcoming and attentive and went out of their way to meet dietary requests. We enjoyed our food (there was plenty of it) and there were several vegetarian/vegan/plant based options. Would happily recommend a visit.

After a lovely morning walk we stumbled across this pub on the main road, so we stopped for Sunday lunch. Firstly, they are dog friendly, so that is a first big thumbs up from us. Had the shoulder of beef roast dinner which was the best roast dinner I think I've ever had in a pub! My husband had the vegetarian option which was a broccoli, cheese and potato bake, with all the trimmings too. Very tasty and you can tell they put a lot of thought and effort into it. We found this pub by chance and only wanted a sandwich and drink, but on viewing the menu had Tapas instead. Wow - the food was 💯. The landlady is lovely. The pub had a relaxed atmosphere. We will definitely be going back when visiting family. 😍

Salutation has new owners It's been given a fresh lick of paint inside and out which has made it look much brighter and more inviting. We visited here as a family, booked in late, 1 hour before arriving but nevertheless staff were friendly acomadating and helpful. Service was a little slow but this was due to staff sickness so understandable. Food was Hot, very tasty and really good size. Stuffed leaving, had to refuse a pudding. Will definitely be returning and have already recommended to friends.

Had a wonderful meal this evening in our local pub! Lovely meal, hot, tasty and very well presented. Hosts were very warm and considerate to our needs. Well worth a visit👍🏼 #supportlocal

Lovely pub, good beer friendly bar man, it’s clean........ then the menu.Called in on a Saturday evening, restaurant was empty. All meals were £10.95 (far from what’s mentioned in the last review -£16.95 for three courses and entertainment) . I ordered the fish and chips. What I received was a standard oven ready supermarket triangle of battered fish a tiny portion of chips and peas. Really disappointing, to be fair I might have well stopped in Farm foods or Aldi on the way home and cooked it myself, it would have been cheaper and quicker. My wife had the burger, again nothing special definitely not worth the price. Two kids had the hunters chicken. A fillet of chicken in a bowl covered in bbq sauce, good child portion ( it wasn’t) again not worth £10.95. The other child had Sausage and chips of the ‘take away menu. Chip shop style sausage with a tiny portion of chips. We didn’t humour the desert menu .... Considering the competition, in this village and the nearby Nantgaredig and White Mill (especially White Mill we’re you’d get better quality, bigger portion for less) they really need to up their game. Sadly I didn’t take any pictures but I can assure you the food looks nothing like what’s shown on this page, and it’s certainly not a gastro pub. What a shame and a disappointment. Bar man was empathetic with our disappointment and assured us that in the future things would approve. It will have to. What a wasted evening...

WOW what an experience!! Drag/comedy night with a 3 course meal thrown in for £16.95. Hell of an evening of fun and laughter( be prepared for a little risque banter mind you!!) The food was more than ample and the show was something you wouldnt expect behind the doors of a quiet village pub but boy....you need to see it!! Mark and his team certainly know how to entertain you!!

We only popped in for drinks and ended up being treated to a wonderful night of laughs. The show was amazing. We will 100% be buying a ticket for next montha show. Can't wait!!

So much for an interesting and varied curry night. We visited expecting all kinds of Asian delights only to be offered chicken or beef. Wouldn't do the usual chips and rice half-and-half but had to order extra portions of chips. When I commented on this we had the reply 'Your out for a cheap night aren't you?'. Well yeah... it was advertised as an eat as much as you like curry evening for £4.95 on the board outside, what did you expect? We were also the first customers of the evening, so not much atmosphere and the dining room was freezing cold. Must try harder I think

Just moved to the area and decided to try out the Sunday carvery here. Have been to the salutation a few times just for evening drinks and always found it to be a lovely friendly local pub. Lunch turned out to be a real treat too - staff could not be any friendlier and attentive and the food was delicious! !! Would highly recommend. We have a few local places to choose from but intend to become regulars of the Salutation.

I’ve lived in Pontargothi 12 years and have never visited my local as often as I have since Mark has taken over! He had me hooked at the opening evening! Mark and his team always go out of their way to myself and my young family feel welcome. Meals are good value and there’s something to suit all tastes. The Sunday Carvery has to be the best around for taste and value for money! When Mark announced he was doing Christmas parties I booked straight away for my work Xmas do...what can I say 💯 We laughed the whole time, proper belly laughs! The food was delicious and the entertainment priceless!! 100% satisfied customers who will all be back xx

We have eaten here numerous times and decided to eat here on Christmas Eve. We tried the soup and steak for £7.95. Can’t praise Karl the chef enough, food was seasoned beautifully, best steak that I’ve had, the portions were ample, more than enough. Staff are attentive and can’t do enough for you. Everytime we’ve been here we’ve had a warm and friendly welcome. Mark goes out of his way to make the customers feel welcome. Will be returning again in the near future.

Don't bother reading the other reviews because this place is under new ownership. The food was bland and tasteless and so was the service. For a restaurant that sells steaks and burgers not to have any mustard was unbelievable. Then staff were uncaring and conspicuous by their absence. Avoid !

There was 4 adults and my son that went for a Sunday carvery! It was brilliant! Will be back again! Staff are friendly and it’s a very cosey place! Will be back again! Thank you so much

Visited this beautiful country pub for a Sunday lunch with family and was very impressed by the food and service which was beautifully cooked and brought out in a timely manner. The group with us numbered 9 and everyone enjoyed their meals which were also very reasonably priced.

Had a table of 9 with a highchair for lunch. Food was well priced, staff attentive, and very generous portion sizes. Would return again.

We visited this inn/restaurant whilst staying not too far from here. We were met by friendly owners who supplied home cooked food from the menu, this was both tasty and plentiful. I recommend this highly.

We went on a Sunday and had a choice of Sunday lunch or off the menu,from the moment we went in the host was very friendly and welcoming, the place is very olde worlde in decor,but not dark and dingy, the staff were really pleasant and very helpful, the food was absolutely delicious,and plentiful, I would definitely recommend the seafood tagliatelle,it was amazing,the others in the group had the classic burger which they all agreed was totally amazing also. I have to say we found nothing that could be a minus and will certainly be going back.

I visited The Salutation Inn on Saturday, with 4 family members. First impressions were that it's clean and friendly. I had heard excellent reviews and we weren't disappointed. The fish (hake) and chips, stir-fried chicken and prawns and the seafood tagliatelle were all very tasty, excellently cooked and presented. Will be going back

We called in yesterday and had a rump steak, it was delicious! Perfectly cooked, good quality meat and top marks for homemade chips! Service was great, friendly very welcoming, and everywhere was very clean with nice decor. Thank you for a lovely dinner.

Nous cherchions un restaurant gallois typique et nous n’avons pas été déçu. Des plats délicieux: Fish and chips frais à la bière avec de succulents petits pois à la menthe. Un pie au poulet très gourmand ! Et des plats identiques mais plus petits pour les enfants. Tout le monde était ravi!

Just had dinner in the salutation inn.I had the hake in homemade beer batter with homemade chips and trimmings.It was absolutely amazing the best fish and chips I have ever had.I have no quibble with giving 5 stars as they certainly deserve it.The food was good quality I will be going back there very soon.I would say it’s the best inn in the area for good quality food.

We needed flexible accommodation for 2 - 3 nights whilst visiting Carmarthen for a wedding. The Salutation has an excellent self contained flat with large bedroom ( comfortable double + single beds), nice and clean shower room and a separate kitchen diner with TV and settee. The flat was very clean and tidy. It has a gas hob, microwave, fridge with ice box, kettle and toaster. The room is above the pub and noise was not a problem on either the Friday or Saturday nights!

Sunday Lunch with wife and children (11&9). Had not visited since new owners took over. Not sure what to expect as the decor was the same as before and appeared quiet. Front of house very welcoming which is always a good start. Decided to take a starter. What a start - although just the common pate it was vey well presented, clearly freshly made with light toasted baguette cut in half. Delicious. Then took the staple Beef option. Once again very well presented. The beef was melt in the mouth and the vegetables freshly made and tasted great. Took the the third course to round the day off which was home made crumble.

An excellent little gem, the Salutation Inn, Pontargothi. We have just had a superb Father's Day meal at the Inn, the food was out of this world and the service was warm and friendly. We would highly recommend the Salutation Inn to any one.

Nice people delivering good wholesome food, which was freshly cooked and well presented. A definite future visit on the books! The ribs starter and the fish and chips were excellent, with the hake in batter being outstanding. I would have preferred home made bread or a speciality bread served with the oil/balsamic dish and a five star rating would be given. Overall an excellent meal delivered by genuine people who care about customers ---well done. The total cost for two people including drinks and coffee £51. this represents very good value. The little iced mouth cleanser between courses was a lovely touch and much appreciated.

We stayed at the apartment above this restaurant for 2 nights and ended up having 2 evening meals and a lunch here as we didn't want to go anywhere else! We had a very friendly welcome, the restaurant is very comfortable and cosy and the food was outstanding. It was so nice to find somewhere that makes use of local producers and cares about the food that they make. We would highly recommend this restaurant (and apartment) to everyone that is coming to the area - it is a real gem and we will definitely be coming back next time we are in the area; in fact we may make a special trip up here!!

Recommended to visit by our host. Great recommendation. Traditional old pub type environment, very friendly and welcoming (incl the locals). Top quality food with a good varied menu. Reasonable prices. If you are in the area, make it your stop for a meal.

Good food. We all had fish and chips. The fish was hake which is my favourite fish. It did not disappoint. Perfectly cooked fish, light and crispy batter, tasty chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce. A very warm welcome from the host and log fire. Very cosy which reminded me of the evenings spent there with my mum and Dad as a child. It was quiet for a Thursday night which was a shame as this place deserves to be busy. I'm particularly fussy about my food. All food cooked to order from fresh, as it should be. I enjoyed my pudding of pear and almond tart so much that I forgot about the custard next to my plate. It is rare to find a place that cooks fresh not frozen.Bucking the trend of stab and ping meals. Will be going back soon. very reasonably priced meal for four and clean and neat surroundings.

Stumbled across this place looking for somewhere to stop for Sunday lunch, so glad we stopped here. We both had belly pork roast dinner which was fantastic, the meal wouldn’t be out of place in a top restaurant at double the price. Service really friendly and quick, will be back!

Well-priced top quality home-cooked food in a lovely traditional country pub. Menu choice offers something for everyone and a couple of 'specials' often added on for extra interest. Eaten here about 8 or 9 times over the last 12 months and the cooking has always been first class. Felinfoel Double Dragon on draught is kept well and at the right temperature.

Excellent meal, superb service and a nice, homely atmosphere. Thoroughly enjoyable evening, will definitely be back.

It's so rare to find a country pub where EVERYTHING is homemade. The pasta is homemade, burgers are homemade......everything is fresh made to order. We all had an amazing meal. Lovely services and atmosphere. We'll definitely be back soon!

We must have gone on a bad day. A number of things were not available.

I asked the chef for something she would recommend, and out came Scallops, black pudding and salad. Everything is home made and this concoction was something special, perfectly cooked and the salad was beautifully crisp and fresh. A real gem of a place with wonderful hospitality and a homely feel. Bravo!!

Genuinely home cooked food. Ribs particularly excellent. Beer and Cider very good. Real fire and old fashioned warm welcome. Recommended.

we decided to have a take away from our local on sunday because it was too cold to take the kids out. we called them gave our order and i went over to get it 20mins later. I would have waited over half an hour in alot of other places. it was wonderfull. my daughter had the sunday roast and it was so hot and looked exactly like it would have if we were sitting in there to eat it. the portion sizes were large for a take away and the price was cheaper than most take aways for 4 people. will definately be doing this again.

absolutely love this place. you walk in and immediately feel welcomed warm and cozy. Amazing staff cater to your every need nothing is too much. portion sizes are large and you can tell it is all fresh. my favourite is the chicken tagliatelli and my husband loves the squid and burgers. best place to eat around carmarthen hands down. we will be eating there again on the 22/12/17. Can't wait.

We used to eat here many years ago, always hard to get a table. The food was fabulous you would travel to eat at this place. Unfortunately not any more. We ate their last night after being told new people their now. I had chicken liver parfait well I don't believe it was chicken and have never been served any form of pate with cheap white sliced bread before.

Recently new to the area and have found this super pub. Always a warm and friendly welcome, bright and happy pub. Have eaten here numerous times and food is always fantastic. Brought my friend here with her two boys who are fussy eaters and they cleared their plates. Good choice, especially with the new menu in place. Also had a Sunday roast or two, brought more friends on that occasion and again clean plates. You can tell the food is cooked fresh and with love. Good quality, great atmosphere.

Reasonable choice of food for meat eaters, but for a vegetarian the choice was very limited. the steak was really good and the chips really light and crispy. Starters were average, desserts choice limited but good. The owners are trying hard and give a warm welcome. A new menu is being put out soon. Would try again , hope that this is successful for locals,

Came here with my wife as this restaurant which has only been open a few months was recommended by a friend. Walked in and straight away we got the feeling of a very nice traditional pub atmosphere and were greeted by the manager who was friendly and welcoming.The menu had some very nice choices and it states on the front of it that food is fresh and locally sourced.All of our food was served in good time and was clearly freshly prepared and for the prices charged were really impressed as most other local restaurants in Carmarthen charge more and is no way near the standard as the Salutation Inn.We decided to bring the kids back with us 3 days later for the Sunday roast and again the Sunday roast far superseded what we were expecting based on other restaurants locally. The Kids menu is very mixed and the hake and chips my daughter had was nicer than Morgans Chippy in Carmarthen.I must say this is a fantastic local restaurant and we will definitely be going on more occasions. If you like well priced fresh food with a great range of choice you must try this restaurant.

Recently visited this lovely pub for an evening meal. Had to wait a while for our meal but it was freshly prepared and was well worth the wait. We opted for the steak which was accompanied by home made chips , delicious! Highly recommend this lovely pub. Can't wait to go back to sample the rest of the menu.

We had a mid-week Tuesday evening meal, both of us had the Chicken, Bacon & Sun dried tomato Tagliatelle and my partner had the Burger. We were very impressed with the food and the service was excellent, nothing was too much trouble. Very reasonable prices, I think the whole bill came to under £40 for the three of us. Will definitely be visiting again with family.

Years ago this pub/restaurant had an excellent reputation and then fell into the doldrums and shut.It has come back with an innovative, cheerful landlord with a very good, though not extensive menu, which nevertheless caters for all tastes including vegetarian.I had asparagus dish to start with and then Sunday lunch - all of it served imaginatively, very well cooked and presented.Don't be put off by the small car park - there is parking along the side to the left of the pub.The decor is a good blend of bijou and traditional pub with polished floor boards etc.Well worth a visit.

When entering the pub we felt immediately welcome by the landlord and the atmosphere in the pub is lovely. Got talking to some locals who seem to be very happy this pub is up and running again.The food is cooked fresh by the landlady, not only looking very appetising but tasting fantastic too. Professional behaviour and clothing (she even wears a hat in the kitchen), so no surprise there that this pub has a 5 star hygiene rating. Will be eating there more often.

We had a 3-course Sunday lunch which was enjoyed by all. Everything is prepared in-house and every course was packed with flavour. The service was welcoming and attentive. Will call again as soon as we can.

The Salutation is a great pub/restaurant with loads of character right on the side of the A40 at Cothi Bridge. Easy to park in their own car park next door to the pub. We visited here twice in the last fortnight, evening and Sunday lunch. Great atmosphere and a warm welcome from the hosts and the staff. The food is homemade and delicious. Would definitely recommend the crabcakes. Reasonable prices too.

This is a warm, friendly pub, with great atmosphere, excellent service, and an interesting menu. The meals we had were excellent. Will definitely return, and recommend it very strongly to our friends.

Had driven past a few times in the last month and noticed that the rather sad appearance of the closed and inactive Salutation Inn was no more, so resolved to try as soon as opportunity arose. Well, for Sunday lunch today it did, and we drove from home in Llanybri(further west beyond Carmarthen) for the action. It was so worthwhile! A great renovation, with a lovely restoration of the bar area and interior, and a truly excellent lunch. Beautifully presented with excellent fresh contents and not the mass produced pub meal one can easily be confronted with so easily today. Excellent service and ambiance, and overall a really enjoyable food experience that could be worthy of any foodie venue at any level. We'll be back and recommend unreservedly- Don't miss.

Great welcome by the landlord when we called in for an early lunch. Whilst the menu was limited and the fish off the menu, due to late delivery, we enjoyed our lunch of soup and salads The quantity of green leaves was excessive to the extreme - other salad options would have improved the dish. Whilst it is still early days for this newly reopened enterprise, it will all depend on how well the restaurant can establish itself to become a regular venue for diners. I certainly would call again in the future, as it does have the potential of being a character restaurant cultivating a style of its own. I wish the new owners well.

Newly refurbished and just reopening under new ownership after being empty for a while. the expectation levels among the locals is high and when the Chef/kitchen is up and running I anticipate a lot of use.

After an afternoon building up an appetite Dolphin watching in New Quay my wife and I decided to pick a pub/restaurant at random on the way back to our accommodation. We were very pleasantly surprised to get it right on this one - incredibly so.Our hosts were extremely friendly and attentive, the food amazing (cottage pie and creamy chicken) and when our host found out that we were on honeymoon we got complimentary drinks! A perfect choice and a great big recommendation from me!
