The Beacon Hotel in East Staffordshire

Been twice now in the space of a week and the food is amazing the staff are so wonderful and helpful service is brilliant cannot recconend this place enough thank you

The Beacon Hotel was selected as the venue for my mothers 90th birthay family meal. We had a party of 30, mainly adults but also some young children and a couple of infants. We pre booked it to go on a Sunday afternoon to take advantage of the carvery. Everything went extremely well. We met for pre drinks then were led to a room which had been prepared for us with several tables waiting for us. Most of us went for the carvery. The food was very very enjoyable. The atmosphere was very relaxed. The staff were great and couldn't do enough for us. Thank you to all the staff.

Absolutely fabulous time on Friday night. The food was really good , service was excellent and really good tribute staff Work really hard.

We very often go to The Beacon for meals and have rarely had a problem in the past. However we didn't have a good experience this evening. We ordered gammon paying £1 extra for pineapple plus egg, the mini cod and chips (light meal) plus 1 large pinot grigio and a pint of Pedigree shandy. The bill was £39, we didn't get itemised bill but I'm pretty sure the gammon was £15, mini cod £10.50, so we paid about £13.50 for the drinks, which is probably about right? However I could only eat about a third or quarter of the gammon at most despite being hungry, it was incredibly salty, just couldn't eat it. I did mention this when the plates were collected. Unfortunately The Beacon will not be our first choice when eating out in future, there aren't too many things on the menu that appeal to me now especially since gammon is no longer an option. my husband usually only ever orders mini cod or steak, he can't eat certain foods. Such a shame because the pub is really close to us and the staff are great.

Whilst walking into this establishment mid December I slipped on a highly polished floor. My wrist was badly broken and required surgery. Beyond asking if I had hit my head no other assistance was offered. I had to ask for ice and a sling (the staff member did not know how to put it on). I have emailed and written to ask for my accident form to be updated and for an acknowledgement. I have heard absolutely nothing!! My husband and I left midway through lunch to attend hospital. Our friends were given a full bill to pay. I am quite appalled by all of this.

Group of 11 of us ate here the Sunday after New Year Day. We had reserved a table but 3 people were running late. The staff were fantastic with us and put no pressure on us to rush. Most people had the carvey, I had the fish and chips with mushy peas. This fish was amazing. I would definitely recommend it. Kinder Cookie Dough for pudding was fit too. Really great service and will definitely be back.

Salled in on the off chance of getting a table and was successfull I had a steak and my partner had a chicen dish both were great and the onion rings are to die ffor excelent value for money and service is amazing

First time visit for us. Great service, everyone so smiley and cheerful. The carvery was lovely with the best beef I’ve ever had at a carvery - so tender and tasty. Good choice of fresh veg - nice gravy too. Had crumble & custard for pud. Honestly can’t fault it and will go again.

On the 14 Dec, went with group of friend. Booked two weeks before and left a list of who wanted what from Christmas menu. Waited 30 minutes for starters, almost as long for mains. Veg was cold and under cooked. Roast potatoes and parsnips not roasted. Gravy watery. Desserts also not good. Toffee apple pastry not cooked and cheese cake portions small. Really not worth the money. Obviously understaffed.

3rd time visit, was this time exceptional. The lovely waitress (blond woman didn’t catch the name ) as always lovely and making us feel welcome and comfortable … food -surf and turf steak was absolutely amazing well done to the chef , very happy with the meal and the staff .

We had a great experience visiting the beacon, The food was great and the service was great! We were sat on the Big table round near the Carvery deck. I believe it was Harry who was looking after us? He was amazing! Looking after us, he did just that, always having a smile on his face even whilst just walking around the restaurant. Thank you the beacon team!!!

We went for christmas day dinner but had to sit near the bar. We understand we couldnt get a table has we booked in july. The table wasnt festive what so ever the meal was nice . But we was rushed into each course such as starter main desert. Disappointing. Wasnt worth 65 pound each per adult. Nice staff worked hard. But more effort in the main room with decs and tables decor . Very disappointing on the whole.

Went with friends for the Christmas festive fayre menu absolutely shocking and tasteless food, 5 of us crammed onto a small round table nothing festive about it at all shocking service from start to finish even ended up with the lock in the toilets coming completely off in my hand when trying to open the door , all veg was raw and tasteless everything else all frozen products

Absolutely awful. We were there last night for a Christmas family gathering. A couple had steaks, the majority had the carvery and four of us had the festive burger. All of the burgers came out hard and inedible. We were offered the carvery as a replacement, or a considerable wait if we wanted another burger. Not really sure how long it takes to cook an edible burger, but I'm guessing that the considerable wait was for another over cooked one. In the end three of our party out of 15 didn't eat. Who wants to go out as a family and not eat at the same time... We only went here in the first place as we heard how good it was. We definitely won't be going again.

Lovely place, very polite staff and great service. Meal was excellent. Place was beautifully decorated for Christmas and nice and warm on a cold day. Really enjoyed our visit.

Came here on 3rd and 5th of December in 2022 was my first time and the service here that I got was wonderful. The inside and out looks so nice. Food here is very delicious it’s one of my favourite in the area to go to

Great menu choice, traditional pub fayre ,nice decor, pleasant staff, quick service. Went midweek and it was very busy with a lovely atmosphere. Will definitely be back again.

Went for dinner on Halloween to avoid the trick or treaters. A bit surprised that the place is fully decorated for Christmas, in Oct. But can’t knock them to hard it’s Christmas Season in 5 weeks. Must say, Food was cooked to perfection and the staff were very attentive even if very busy. Yes, we had to wait awhile for our food, but quite acceptable when they are so busy. Well done the staff on a busy Halloween.

Excellent food and service, the Mediterranean style salad that accompanied my steak was the nicest I've tasted. Can fully recommend this outlet, nothing like the basic boozer it used to be going back 20 years or so.

The eight of us have been coming here for lunch for a few years, since the present owners took over, and the standards have always been good with excellent portions, hot food and good service. Today the portions were much reduced, most of the food cold, eggs overcooked with solid yolks and they were understaffed so slow! Really disappointing and we're going elsewhere in the future. Since it's literally just down the hill from where we live we'll hear if they pull themselves together and we may give them another chance....but not until we get better reports.

After eating at the Beacon many times I found today hit a new low. We waited about an hour to have our food brought and waited just as long for drinks. It is blatantly obvious that the servers are inexperienced and couldn’t cope with the demand. We have nearly always in the years we have been using the Beacon had the choice from the Lighter Bites menu, believing it to be excellent value but the amount of food on the plate has shrunk in the last meals we’ve had. The quality is nowhere near what it was either. Today after waiting an unacceptable amount of time the chips were cold too. More chips were brought but the damage was done. Although I live within walking distance of the Beacon and been for meals frequently my time is ready to move on. There are many eateries which I believe can be better with competitive prices.

First time calling in The Beacon for food, having previously called when it was a Bass boozer, prior to the major fire some years ago. It is now a really well appointed pub/restaurant that serves gorgeous food. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the food was first class. The Steak and Stilton Mediterranean salad was the best I have ever tasted.

Well I reckon chef and kitchen staff has changed. Went today for carvery for 2 me and the wife only ate half very sub standard meals. Costing £37 for 2 glasses pop and food so expensive too. Will find somewhere else very disappointed on this visit as before I left a really good review. Get the other staff back.

My wife, son and I visited here for lunch today and had excellent meals . We all chose different main courses and desserts. For main courses I had the Yorkshire Pudding Feast (from the Lighter Lunches menu), my wife ad the Pub Classics Steak & Ale pie & my son the Chicken Tikka Shashlik. From the dessert menu, our choices were the Honeycomb Sundae, a create your own sundae of Strawberry and Double Chocolate ice cream and a Crunchie Cheesecake. Service was excellent, attentive without being intrusive. Drinks are reasonably priced with a wide range from wines, beer/lagers, spirits, soft drinks and tea and coffee. This wasn't our first visit, nor will it be ouur last. We have never been disappointed and always had good quality food at a reasonable price.

Me and my fiancé recently visited after I came home from hospital after a surgery and the staff were very attentive and lovely. I had the rump steak with the mushroom side (they were massive!) and my partner had the Cajun chicken burger. The food was absolutely delicious and we will highly recommend!

Good food at reasonable price, unfortunately there was a funeral party at the same time and we were swamped by people as we tried to eat. There is a designated room for private functions but this seemed to be ignored, the whole dining experience was ruined and I would not go again if there was a private function. The reason for four stars was for the quality of the food and the excellent service of the young lad who took care of us. Check to see if any private functions are on and if so avoid, if not then go and try.

Great refurb, lovely new owners, nice food, well catered for work Xmas meal, when lots of past ones at numerous different places have failed! Will definitely return.

I have visited on many occasions and can say have not been disappointed, however I recommend this tonight for a get together with friends, which Two are vegan and was really disappointed that nothing but Dairy free ice cream was the only vegan option for dessert and at £5+ was a poor excuse of a dessert, needless to say none of us vegan or none vegan decided to have a dessert. To add to our disappointment, when ordering coffees there was no milk alternatives, ie almond, soya etc! Who doesn’t have milk substitutes for vegans and people with dairy allergies these days? - need to up your game The Beacon and accommodate everyone’s requirements

I am so glad we tried this place recently, the main menu item choices we picked were spot on. Went back to try the carvery, and other than being a little busy (which is a good sign in my book), and therefore a little crowded at the serving station the food was absolutely delicious. A really nice atmosphere, friendly and welcoming staff and great value food, this place is now on our go to list. Thank you to your team and will be seeing you again soon!

My son asked to go here for his birthday. The prices are really reasonable, so we were happy to do that. The lady on the phone was really helpful and nice to speak to. Then 13 of us came and everyone enjoyed their meals. They were lots of choices, not just typical pub food options. The food was delicious. All the staff were lovely and the atmosphere was nice. We visited for dinner for the 2 for 1 meal deal. Good service by the waitress and good covid practises in place. WE very much enjoyed our meal of a double cheeseburger for my husband and the peppercorn chicken for me. We even managed a desert afterwards .We will definitely return.

Decided to try the recently refurbished Beacon and it was a nice surprise the refurb is excellent. We took our drinks out to the sunny tables at the front of the hotel, very pleasant. When we went to our table the staff were friendly and helpful. We chose the Sunday Carvery and it was all well cooked and delicious, with generous portions and is excellent value for money. Will definitely return to sample the regular menu. Also important for us we felt very Covid-19 secure with their regular cleaning and spacing of tables.

First time here for many years and first time eating out since lockdown. What a lovely place. The meal was delicious and the staff were really friendly. Its covid safe. Plenty of sanitising facilities and very clean we felt completely safe. I will definitely be returning.

Booked on spur of moment, reopened recently after an extensive refit, which has greatly improved the atmosphere. After a fortnight away in Cornwall where Covid 19 compliance seemed lax everywhere, it was great to see this place completely across it without being intrusive. Attentive, interested staff and good value kids meals. Would wholeheartedly recommend for a family meal, or casual bite.

Now, I'm not normally one to write a review like this, but this really needs posting.We ordered a few drinks and were using the pool table, when a friend joined us and asked for a glass of water as he no longer drinks. The owner then told us to "F*ck off" as "this isn't a youth hostel". We began to finish our drinks and our game of pool to leave due to her poor manners. When leaving, she threatened to call the police on us, but evidently realized she had no grounds for this, as she then threatened to call her 'biker friends' on us. We had two friends (18+) en-route who by this point had arrived in the car park. The owner then shouted at us for bringing underage people into her pub. Now the Beacon had become our 'local' and we visited at least once a week, but now, we won't be visiting again whilst she is still managing it.

I’m utterly outraged at the owner of this pub! A group of my friends were subject to nothing but unneeded rudeness and horrendous attitude, the reason for this is because one asked for a pint of water.. she responded with this isn’t a f’ing youth club and refused to serve, totally unacceptable as this is a legal requirement!! She then asked them to leave for no reason at all and if they didn’t she would call the police and also her ‘biker mates’ laughable really! It’s so sad to say that this establishment will not last five minutes with the current owners due to their attitudes and unprofessional outlook. Bring back the previous owners that actually know how to treat people with respect and also knew how to run a business that was busy with a lovely atmosphere.Will not be returning unless new owners are present.

Let me start by saying me and my friends have been coming to this pub with our family’s our whole childhood. And have visited once weekly since we turned 18 a few years back. It seems the new management has an issue with the local crowd. We were refused water (illegal but whatever) and screamed at from across the bar. We were told it wasn’t a youth hostel and to f*** off! The new woman (if you would call her this) has no customer service skills even though she claimed to own “many pubs” in this area...It’s so sad to see the pub empty but are you surprised with a bulldog on the bar! Please treat your locals with respect! We keep you open during the winter!

New owner is a joke!! Came to the beacon because we had seen reviews and said we would see for ourselves very very good .Meat was well cooked the rest of the carvery well presented staff friendly and helpful .

As this venue has been revamped, we called in to see if this local was worth a try.The place has had a spruce up and the carvery is half decent with a menu offering alternatives.The service was swift with a smile and a fine range of drinks.The atmosphere was lacking but I guess you can accept that on a Tuesday early evening straight from work.

Always had a love/hate relationship with Roast dinners due to being picky with veg, I’ve tried a few Carvery’s in Derby but The Beacon has quite a wide selection, along with good quality meat, so was able to really enjoy the Carvery. The price is very reasonable and the service is quick and concise.

I’m very particular about my roast, I’ve tried many others in the are and further afield and I must say that the beacon was impressive, a warm welcom as we walked through the door, Straight to a table and then a quick turn around on the carvery. Many places lack the art of a crispy roast potato and thick gravy but this offers it all, A big Yorkshire pud and plenty of condiments. Very very happy and we will be visiting again soon. In fact we have already booked for mother’s day.
