Booked in advance and requested a seat outside. We were told they couldn’t manage it as they only had one table for five outside. The family sat at the table had been there for a few minutes when we got there and had not booked (turns out they’d given our table away outside even though we were five minutes early). The aircon is absolutely blasting out freezing air, so unlucky if you’re sat underneath it, and the music can only be described as what happens if you ask ChatGPTto write the hold music for an insurance company. Food was ok, but would be hugely overpriced if it wasn’t for the view.

We have been coming to the beach hut for many years and always felt welcome. Sadly today that wasn’t so. I felt that when we said we were in for coffees we were farmed off to the tiny outside veranda and promptly forgotten about. Meanwhile those inside seemed to receive a more timely service. Overall the vibe has changed and not for the better in my opinion. We might have stayed for lunch but based on the initial greeting, service and lack of interaction we moved on.

How disappointing? Completely. I came with my friend for a long walk in one of our favourite beaches and lunch. We have both lived in Cornwall for 40 years…so have eaten out everywhere! We’ve both been to Watergate Hotel and to The Beach Hut multiple times…and we have seen it change (necessarily) over the years. We’re not naive and recognise that prices have increased dramatically, but trust me neither of us will ever return again. It’s not just the extortionate prices, it’s the lack of choice. The menu is short, fine, but when we both ordered the moules & frite (at £22 before service), our waitress said “oh I think they’ve run out”, asked, came back and said “the kitchen ran out of mussels at lunchtime”….this was at 13.10- absolutely our lunch time!! The fish and chips is massively expensive (and we eat them all over the place), the specials were monkfish in panko, or curried fish burger…honestly, this is poor man’s fish down here, where the freshest haddock, hake, bream , sole etc gets pulled out of the sea daily. Our only real option left was crab linguine at £30/head. Bonkers!! It was a small- moderate potion with no distinguishing features…seriously I cook it better at home for about 1/5th the price (I know, I know, restaurants have overheads….but we had come out for a treat….and this was not it!!) I had booked a table for 2 in the window please, and on arrival we were shown to the far end of tbs restaurant and up some steps into a conservatory area ….right next to a table of 6, whose toddler was standing banging on the window and shouting right behind my friend’s chair, so she couldn’t sit down. Inexplicably the heater was on above our heads, with full sun outside. We asked politely if we could possibly have another table, and after a massive amount of umming and ahhing (with a huge queue of customers building up) we were told, sadly no, as all the others were booked (as ours had been). After explaining that we weren’t going back to the pro table, as we wanted to enjoy our lunch, eventually a table was cleared down…and we sat down. The food I’ve already described, the Rosé wine spritzer was another disappointment- I live spritzers at lunch, and this was described as Provençal Rosé with elderflower and soda….the rosé must have blinked for a moment rather than enter the glass..which was a shame as each was £14.00 ….it would have been massively better to have simply had a glass of rosé each. So, £100 for 2 smallish plates of ok crab linguine and 2 totally watered down spritzers…no thank you!! Sorry Watergate Bay and The Beach Hut but you’ve blown it- for the locals who would still like to enjoy their own beaches and county. It seems to be fine to take large numbers of children to, ok for those who can afford it!!

We stopped by The Beach Hut for breakfast. The location is perfect—right by the stunning and expansive Watergate Beach. The restaurant itself is cozy, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff were friendly, approachable, and professional, which made the experience even better. The breakfast was tasty, although considering the price, it would have been nice if toast was included rather than charged separately. Overall, a lovely spot and definitely worth a visit. I recommend it!

I hate to leave a medium level review, but I'm really not happy about your charging policy. A forced service charge added to an already expensive menu, means I was charged an extra £6.10. We were a table of 7 couples, all charged this! Very sneaky, £43 extra ish on our bills overall. Astonishing. We would leave a tip of our own choosing. Do the staff see any of that 'service charge'? I had a moderate double cheeseburger for £18!!! Cider and beer both over £6.50. I wasn't even facing the window, so the food prices really wernt worth it for me! I feel a bit ripped off If I am honest, the car park was already a mad price, and I get that it's a 'summer industry' but we arnt all visiting Londoners!! To hide a charge on a card machine is poor form. I'm not even sure on the legality of it. Shame for the staff who are all youngish, attentive and deserve better.

This was my review a year ago and you asked me to give you another chance which I just did (May 2025): there is more crab in a crepe suzette than in your pasta, same goes with the lobster and monkfish burger… Good food however portions are getting smaller every year. You should not leave a restaurant hungry and with nobody saying: “thank you, looking forward to seeing you again”

Love this place and have been going for 10+ years as the first stop on a Friday or Saturday morning for breakfast after long drive as part of our week in Cornwall. We normally combine breakfast with a walk on the beach. A few years ago we started to feel prices had gone up considerably but we reverted to more simple items on the menu and this feeling subsided. However, if you look at the example excert from the menu - scrambled egg on toast £9 is pretty reasonable. But to add smoked salmon is another £8 - almost double. You have to really like smoked salmon for that!!!

I’ve been frequenting the beach hut for almost 2 decades. I’ve seen it change a lot over the years. It’s always been a reliable, consistently good place to go for a hot drink and a cake, or a delicious meal. I’ve always found the atmosphere to be warm and inviting. Unfortunately this was not my most recent experience. We needed high chairs which seemed to throw the host slightly resulting in us feeling as though we were an inconvenience. The food prices are astronomical in comparison to the portion sizes - both left feeling hungry. And the quality wasn’t anything to write home about. Our white wine was room temperature and when we asked for cold wine we were initially offered ice cubes to rectify it. Slightly horrified by this having worked in restaurants for most of my 20’s. Overall we were really disheartened by it and it’s certainly coloured our view. I’ve noticed this is not the only review of this nature, something has clearly been lost at the beach hut.

Limited menu but lovely food, service and place. BUT WOW your prices are now extortionate! Birthday celebration for 2 last week:  2 x pre-dinner drinks (2 x beer/prosecco), no starters, moules and frittes, plaice and frittes, bottle white wine, 2 x affagato dessert (although we asked for 1 to share!). Bill came just under £160!!! Cheapest bottle of white wine available on the night was £36...and it was served warm in a bucket with ice...shoddy. Small portion of moules and frittes £22, then the cheek of an extra £6 for a piece of bread to mop up the source! And a stealth 10% service charge added to the bill. You are a 'beach hut', wooden floor, sand, lovely ambience, but no view at this time of year in the evenings. Come on guys...too expensive! We've enjoyed numerous visits to the Beach Hut over the years, but not again at these prices sorry.

I have been coming back for over 10 years and would return to give another chance. Normally great food, i probably should have said so maybe my fault, but the roasted butternut squash and giant cous cous was barely warm and very stodgy , I think as it was a chilly day and we were sat away from windows (view) near utensil area in a bit of a draughty corner maybe made it worse, outside of the main dining area. There were plenty of tables inside on arrival and when we left so not sure why we were seated here, but server did say this is my area then said he had finished and said goodbyes, ten minutes in. My husbands meal, fish and chips, he said was really good. I am not sure always had fantastic meals l, warm and great views and was left a little disappointed for this birthday meal.

After a delightful walk along the coastal paths from Newquay to Watergate Bay we found ourselves feeling rather peckish and in need of a good lunch. With several options to choose from in the area, the Beach Hut offers incredible views and a delicious menu that won us over on this occasion. With a great menu selection, there is something for everyone, but it is slightly pricey for some of the items. With this in mind the two of us opted to share a main and a side, which was an ample amount for us both without leaving hungry. Can most definitely recommend the squash with giant cous cous and patatas bravas and also their hot chocolate definitely deserves a mention with a few different options to choose from. We were lucky enough to walk in without a booking but I have heard that this place does get very busy so it could be worth checking in first at busy times of the year. Service was good and very attentive and the restaurant is warm and inviting. They also have a cute outside decking area with cushions and blankets to keep yourselves warm on those colder days. Also the restaurant is dog friendly so a great option for all those who own and walk dogs in the area to pop in and have something nice to eat and warm to drink. The restaurant decor is charming, with a great up cycling feel within the venue. Also a great local beer and alcohol selection for those looking.

Twenty years after our wedding at Watergate Bay, we were excited to return to celebrate our anniversary and, since we had our dogs with us, we decided to book a table at The Beach Hut. Unfortunately, we left feeling somewhat disappointed and uncelebrated. The table we were given felt cramped, and with two large dogs (which we had mentioned when booking), it wasn't a comfortable setup. My husband had a little space on his side for the dogs to sit, but overall, it made it difficult for us to relax. The food, though expensive as expected, didn’t impress us. The £5 smoked almonds didn’t taste smoked at all and were served plain—essentially a small bowl of almonds with no embellishments. My husband had the burger, which he said was nice but nothing special. I had the squid and cuttlefish salad; while the salad was fresh, the squid and cuttlefish were overly chewy. Our server, however, was lovely and attentive. She made a fuss of our pups and did her best to take care of us. Despite this, I had mentioned during the booking that we were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary, having spent thousands on our original event at Watergate Bay. While I didn’t expect a grand gesture, a simple “Happy Anniversary” from the staff would have been appreciated. Sadly, this experience at The Beach will likely be our last. Our fond memories of Watergate Bay from our wedding day have now been overshadowed by this disappointing visit. We had initially considered staying at the hotel and dining at one of the other restaurants, but I couldn’t justify spending nearly £500 for one night. In hindsight, I’m relieved we only spent £100 on what turned out to be a less than mediocre meal.

I had the the fish and chips and it was £19.50 The main reason for my 4 🌟 is because while we were sat eating one of the workers started dusting and clearing cob webs above the table we were sat at which was a little off putting, we stayed as we had already ordered our food. We’ve been coming to the beach hut for around 12 years now, probably 7-8 times per year. the food has always been excellent, although the menu very rarely changes, and catch of the always seems to be Plaice. This year we’ve been a bit disappointed. During our 2 week stay we have a meal at the beginning of the two weeks, the portions sizes were as to be expected but we had 3 lots of kids battered fish, each one was cooked differently, some batter was extremely crunchy, whereas other batter was very doughy (like a chicken ball!). We came back a few days later, and the portions sizes were ridiculously small, the £30 crab linguine was less than a hand full, and there was less crab than you’d expect in a sandwich. The mussels seemed like a starter sized portion, and the kids fish was huge, until you broke open the very hard batter to reveal less than you’d expect from an Iceland fishfinger. We were forced to order extra side dishes after our meals had been eaten. Whether or not this has anything to do with Boardmasters starting today remains to be seen. We have a table booked for later in the week, which we’re now debating whether we should cancel. Very disappointed from what has always been one of my favourite restaurants. Service was great, views stunning as always, but not great value for money this time.

We arrived at the restaurant and were given a lovely table. That was the positive we waited at least 10 minutes to try to get a drink nobody came near us except the guy who showed us to our table and gave us the 2 menus each, I had to get up and go over to 1 of the 3 servers who were chatting at the bar Ordered our food (5 people) I ordered the fish and chips as we were sitting looking at the sea I thought it should be good. BUT NO WHEN IT TURNED UP IT LOOKED LIKE A PIECE OF FINDUS FROZEN FISH. Absolutely rubbish it was about a 1/4 of an inch thick soggy batter I was so disappointed I did try a very small piece but it was just rubbish , so I had to return it and went for a premium burger. 2 others in our party had the crab linguini but was a very small portion and very little crab but loads of oil , after I asked why they didn't say anything. They replied that I had already complained and didn't want a fuss This was the worst piece of fish that I have ever been served. The whole day was ruined we had come to Cornwall to visit our daughter from France To come to the beach hut was my suggestion as had been here years before. Should have gone to catch where others in the party wanted to go . I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT TO ANYONE. Highly recommend the beach hut watergate. Ideal location, lovely views and attentive staff. Loved our hot chocolates and friends said the coffee was great too. We really enjoyed the breakfast, especially the curry inspired dishes. The masala beans were out of this world, almost as if I was in New Delhi! Look forward to visiting again on our next trip to Cornwall with our 2 dogs!

Arrived for a birthday breakfast. Nice atmosphere and Fantastic views. Unfortunately the food was well below par. Had a full English breakfast. Scrabble egg was slimy, The sausage was tough and the little potatoes where still hard inside but what I couldn't understand was curry flavoured beans with a full English breakfast. This is England not new Delhi. Work on your menu people stop trying to be different.

A lovely place to sit and have a drink overlooking the beach. We have eaten here once before and thoroughly enjoyed it. Drinks by themselves seem a bit on the pricey side. Staff were all happy and welcoming. Dogs are allowed inside as well as on the small terrace.

We've eaten at The Beach Hut many times now but this time wanted to share our latest experience. We reserved a table in the conservatory 6 weeks before our visit. When we arrived we were told no table was available by a very curt person on entry. We were told to wait at a dirty table whilst it was cleaned. 5 minutes passed and as we were still stood waiting, we chose our own clean table and sat ourselves down. During this time we noticed that cleaned / laid up tables were available in the conservatory where we had specifically asked to sit. Still waiting, another party walked in who had not booked and were shown to where we wanted to sit. We challenged the staff why this was. We were told by the person who initially refused us that she had just come back from break and so she did not know which tables were unoccupied. Really! Eventually sat where we originally requested but later our drink order were not fully delivered so I went to the bar and got it myself. Looking around, other members of staff either looked like they did not want to be working or did not seem to have much idea how to serve customers. I know you can do better Beach Hut. Pull your fingers out.

The food was ok, but overpriced, as were the drinks. They have also put bench sits in front of the windows, so if you're inside with a window sit, chances are you'll have someone's back as a view. They also allow dogs into the restaurant, which is not in my view hygienic or appropriate.

Underwhelming crab linguine for £30 x 2. The portions were more like a starter - there was no sauce just garlic butter and a sprinkling of crab which left us disappointed and hungry. Otherwise the staff, restaurant and view were all brilliant.

We ate here for dinner. People kept going through end slide door leaving it open with a freezing draft. I had to get up and close it 3 tomes as staff did nothing. We ordered fish and chips £19 each and what came was an oven ready meal you could get from a supermarket for £3. Not nice. Batter all soft and chips horrid. Overpriced

Loved this cafe/restaurant! Came here on the 1st day of being in Cornwall last week and it wash lush. Went here again after a freezing surf lesson and again, lush. Staff were so lovely both times and very accommodating to our dogs who were provided with mats to sit on and water in bowls! Beautiful location and view looking right out over the water, great to sit and watch family/friends surfing whilst staying warm + dry yourself! Has a lovely conservatory type seating area additionally to the back of the restaurant with heaters and comfy chairs + almost panoramic views of the beach Delicious food, many Indian inspired dishes and drinks which were a lovely change to the areas normal cuisine!

Located next to the sea in the picturesque Watergate Bay, this restaurant offers a dining experience that perfectly complements its stunning surroundings. The location alone is worth the visit, with breathtaking views of the sea stretching out before you as you enjoy your meal. The menu offerings are hearty and satisfying, with a focus on fresh, locally sourced ingredients that showcase the best of the region's culinary delights. From succulent seafood dishes to hearty comfort food classics, there's something to satisfy every palate. However, it's worth noting that dining here can be on the pricey side. While the quality of the food and the stunning location justify the cost for many, budget-conscious diners may find themselves feeling a bit wary of the final bill. Overall, if you're looking for a dining experience that combines great food with a breathtaking location, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit. Just be prepared to splurge a little for the privilege of dining in such a stunning setting.

Just reading some five star reviews and feeling like we must have visited an alternate universe, I actually booked a table.. @3 45 the restaurant called me at 2.45 to say my table was ready for 3🤔 No bother as original time agreed as per email. In and to our table.. Request hi chair.... Now all the food on the menu sounds delicious.. We ordered two ultimate burgers a sole burger and a side of mac for my grandson... One burger arrived, the ultimate disappointment burger.. no idea where the cheese was, the slaw was not remotely fresh and the patty had zero taste (18 quid) my wife was served with a whole sole not the burger .. We had to order a side of roast squash (Half of which undercooked) for 25 quid one would expect some veg or fries..... Talking of fries the saddest chipsticks you have ever encountered accompanied the burger...my sons didn't arrive. Waitess was apologetic she just didnt put it through.. another waitress explained how my wife had made the mistake of ordering the fish of the day when absoloutly no mention of fish of the day was had when she ordered her Sole burger... In good old Brit style we smiled and toughed it out. £8 was knocked off the bill. The restaurant was not packed, plenty of staff on hand.. Sadly food just not fresh, definately way overpriced. Nice view
