Limited menu but lovely food, service and place. BUT WOW your prices are now extortionate! Birthday celebration for 2 last week: 2 x pre-dinner drinks (2 x beer/prosecco), no starters, moules and frittes, plaice and frittes, bottle white wine, 2 x affagato dessert (although we asked for 1 to share!). Bill came just under £160!!! Cheapest bottle of white wine available on the night was £36...and it was served warm in a bucket with ice...shoddy. Small portion of moules and frittes £22, then the cheek of an extra £6 for a piece of bread to mop up the source! And a stealth 10% service charge added to the bill. You are a 'beach hut', wooden floor, sand, lovely ambience, but no view at this time of year in the evenings. Come on guys...too expensive! We've enjoyed numerous visits to the Beach Hut over the years, but not again at these prices sorry.

Twenty years after our wedding at Watergate Bay, we were excited to return to celebrate our anniversary and, since we had our dogs with us, we decided to book a table at The Beach. Unfortunately, we left feeling somewhat disappointed and uncelebrated. The table we were given felt cramped, and with two large dogs (which we had mentioned when booking), it wasn't a comfortable setup. My husband had a little space on his side for the dogs to sit, but overall, it made it difficult for us to relax. The food, though expensive as expected, didn’t impress us. The £5 smoked almonds didn’t taste smoked at all and were served plain—essentially a small bowl of almonds with no embellishments. My husband had the burger, which he said was nice but nothing special. I had the squid and cuttlefish salad; while the salad was fresh, the squid and cuttlefish were overly chewy. Our server, however, was lovely and attentive. She made a fuss of our pups and did her best to take care of us. Despite this, I had mentioned during the booking that we were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary after getting married in Wayergate Bay Hotel. While I didn’t expect a grand gesture, a simple “Happy Anniversary” from the staff would have been appreciated. Sadly, this experience at The Beach will likely be our last. Our fond memories of Watergate Bay from our wedding day have now been overshadowed by this disappointing visit. We had initially considered staying at the hotel and dining at one of the other restaurants, but I couldn’t justify spending nearly £500 for one night. In hindsight, I’m relieved we only spent £100 on what turned out to be a less than mediocre meal.

We arrived at the restaurant and were given a lovely table. That was the positive we waited at least 10 minutes to try to get a drink nobody came near us except the guy who showed us to our table and gave us the 2 menus each, I had to get up and go over to 1 of the 3 servers who were chatting at the bar Ordered our food (5 people) I ordered the fish and chips as we were sitting looking at the sea I thought it should be good. BUT NO WHEN IT TURNED UP IT LOOKED LIKE A PIECE OF FINDUS FROZEN FISH. Absolutely rubbish it was about a 1/4 of an inch thick soggy batter I was so disappointed I did try a very small piece but it was just rubbish , so I had to return it and went for a premium burger. 2 others in our party had the crab linguini but was a very small portion and very little crab but loads of oil , after I asked why they didn't say anything. They replied that I had already complained and didn't want a fuss This was the worst piece of fish that I have ever been served. The whole day was ruined we had come to Cornwall to visit our daughter from France To come to the beach hut was my suggestion as had been here years before. Should have gone to catch where others in the party wanted to go . I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT TO ANYONE. All around are much better places so you will not be getting anymore custom from me or the family Michael Gosbee

We've eaten at The Beach Hut many times now but this time wanted to share our latest experience. We reserved a table in the conservatory 6 weeks before our visit. When we arrived we were told no table was available by a very curt person on entry. We were told to wait at a dirty table whilst it was cleaned. 5 minutes passed and as we were still stood waiting, we chose our own clean table and sat ourselves down. During this time we noticed that cleaned / laid up tables were available in the conservatory where we had specifically asked to sit. Still waiting, another party walked in who had not booked and were shown to where we wanted to sit. We challenged the staff why this was. We were told by the person who initially refused us that she had just come back from break and so she did not know which tables were unoccupied. Really! Eventually sat where we originally requested but later our drink order were not fully delivered so I went to the bar and got it myself. Looking around, other members of staff either looked like they did not want to be working or did not seem to have much idea how to serve customers. I know you can do better Beach Hut. Pull your fingers out.

Located next to the sea in the picturesque Watergate Bay, this restaurant offers a dining experience that perfectly complements its stunning surroundings. The location alone is worth the visit, with breathtaking views of the sea stretching out before you as you enjoy your meal. The menu offerings are hearty and satisfying, with a focus on fresh, locally sourced ingredients that showcase the best of the region's culinary delights. From succulent seafood dishes to hearty comfort food classics, there's something to satisfy every palate. However, it's worth noting that dining here can be on the pricey side. While the quality of the food and the stunning location justify the cost for many, budget-conscious diners may find themselves feeling a bit wary of the final bill. Overall, if you're looking for a dining experience that combines great food with a breathtaking location, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit. Just be prepared to splurge a little for the privilege of dining in such a stunning setting.

Just reading some five star reviews and feeling like we must have visited an alternate universe, I actually booked a table.. @3 45 the restaurant called me at 2.45 to say my table was ready for 3🤔 No bother as original time agreed as per email. In and to our table.. Request hi chair.... Now all the food on the menu sounds delicious.. We ordered two ultimate burgers a sole burger and a side of mac for my grandson... One burger arrived, the ultimate disappointment burger.. no idea where the cheese was, the slaw was not remotely fresh and the patty had zero taste (18 quid) my wife was served with a whole sole not the burger .. We had to order a side of roast squash (Half of which undercooked) for 25 quid one would expect some veg or fries..... Talking of fries the saddest chipsticks you have ever encountered accompanied the burger...my sons didn't arrive. Waitess was apologetic she just didnt put it through.. another waitress explained how my wife had made the mistake of ordering the fish of the day when absoloutly no mention of fish of the day was had when she ordered her Sole burger... In good old Brit style we smiled and toughed it out. £8 was knocked off the bill. The restaurant was not packed, plenty of staff on hand.. Sadly food just not fresh, definately way overpriced. Nice view

I've been to this restaurant several times before and had always been impressed and enjoyed delicious food. A few weeks ago I visited with a friend and I can't deny I was disappointed. Mushroom chips were a previous favourite and I was disappointed to find they had been removed from the menu as they were a unique and delicious (despite them still being mentioned in this review). I chose the lemon sole burger and thought I may as well have gone to the local 'chippy'. It did not match the description, the chips were the cheap, frozen sort and there were no interesting flavours at all. This dish alone is the reason I'll never be coming back here. There were also dogs on all the tables around me which I found very disturbing and disruptive of the atmosphere whilst I was eating.

It's a lovely place with a gorgeous beach view and a chilled vibe. The restaurants menu has a lot to offer. All fresh and hot. Although I have to make a point that it's very delicate in taste. Lovely Sunday menu with cornish specialities and sweet desserts. Unfortunately, have to take stars is service. They are super lovely, but never inform on how much time you have to wait for food (and it's around 40 to 90 minutes). Also, they forgot our order. Personally, I wouldn't mind too much if we would get a discount, but we didn't (I got my food for free coz it was double forgotten). Thought the service explaining us all the reasons was unprofessional.

Have been going to this restaurant for approximately over ten years and whilst always had a great time, food always been good, staff very pleasant and scenic view is outstanding, unfortunately started taking the p#ss with their drink charges. Absolutely stunning setting overlooking Watergate bay, and we sat for drinks here multiple times. There's a beautiful outdoor terrace area with blankets and table service. We had such a nice time here the first evening we planned to come back for food. Lots of vegetarian (and vegan) friendly options which is usually a good sign. Unfortunately, we were both very disappointed with our food. The wedge salad in particular was really poor . It's very unusual for us to not finish our food, but in this case we both ate about half and left the rest. It was also quite expensive, given the "beach hut" vibe. Presumably we're paying for the location, but don't go in expecting good quality food to boot. I'd go back for drinks, though.

This is an amazing place with fantastic views. The staff were for the most part friendly and accommodating although a few were less than observant when it came to checking if the customer would like anything else, some avoiding eye contact or friendly attempts at attracting attention, eventually giving up, I went to the counter to order. I would suggest that it is mentioned on the menu that the shrimp may be carrying eggs, i.e berried shrimp. This was rather off putting, making it difficult to peel and clean the shrimp, eventually we gave up and left the shrimp, too messy. I realise some find the eggs a delicacy, but how you would eat these successfully other than sucking the shrimp before peeling is beyond me... regardless we would not have ordered the shrimp had we known they were carrying eggs...... I know I was eating shrimp, but seeing the eggs made me feel brutal for ordering..... The food we ordered was fine (the shrimp our personal issue), however the wine was a different matter. I ordered a large glass of Merlot (French), my preference is Chilean but the choice was fairly limited. The wine was brown, clearly passed its best, the Server should know if the wine is good before serving to the customer. At over £12 a large glass I expect a fresh great quality wine, this was not one. I took it back to the bar and said it was brown bad tasting poor wine. There was no issue the Server opened a new bottle, poured a little, I tried it and accepted it was better than the previous serving, however on returning to the better light at the table it was clear this bottle was also passed pleasurable drinking, instead of a rich deep red (13.5%) it too had a brown tint. The Servers should be aware of the quality of wine before they serve it, as should the owner. This is clearly a very poor batch of French Merlot, well past its great drinking best and a huge expensive disappointment. Before you say anything my partner did not want a fuss, going back to complain again....... What I would emphasis is that when a Server smells the cork from a fresh bottle of red, holds it up to the light, they really should know if it is good enough to sell, if its brown, then it is no longer wine it is vinegar!. This would not put us off visiting again, the location and views are fantastic. I'm hoping the owner will take on board the potential need for improved understanding of the drinks being served and attentive customer awareness, from the few who may be new to the position.

A bit hit and miss. We had two mains and a side of Mac n cheese. The burger was really good but the fish and chips was a bit well, weird. The batter wasn’t great at all, kinda seemed undercooked and as if the oil wasn’t hot enough and thus the batter was stodgy against the fish and it looked anaemic. The Mac n cheese was excellent with a good bite. What really got our backs up is when we came to pay the bill we had been charged one pound for barbecue sauce, it had been served to us in a small dish and our tomato sauce in a bottle. Their was no mention of a charge and although it’s only a pound it really should be mentioned at time of service. Would I go back…not sure.

We loved this restaurant so much when we visited in 2021 that we ate there three times in a week. Fast forward to summer 2023 and it was top of our list for another two visits, this time with an additional family member in tow and the promise of another wonderful meal. Sadly however, this place is not what it used to be. I am assuming new ownership, as the menu has changed for the worse and not for the better. This year you can expect to pay close to and then way over £20+ for a main course without so much as a portion of chips. The grilled fish of the day is £24 and comes with nothing. These are just the more reasonably priced meals... the crab linguine that previously cost us £16 there in 2021 is now £30. At the time of our visit there were two stews on the menu - one being a fish stew that cost £28. Neither came with any bread provided, but you could buy some foccaccia for an additional £5. How can you not provide bread with a stew and expect people to pay an extra £5 for it? We ordered a portion of mussels that cost £20 but came with no bread or frites despite being a wet dish- so we had to add chips at extra cost. Two of our party ordered fish and chips which cost £19.50. It was notable that the fish and chips came with both tartare and curry sauces but the curry sauce was a luminous yellow Thai style curry sauce and certainly not a 'chip shop style' curry sauce you'd expect to find with fish and chips. The flavours didn't go together at all for us. The food was OK...certainly not enough mussels for the price...certainly not the biggest or best fish & chips we have ever had. Just ok. The highlight of the meal was the mushroom chips we ordered as a side snack. These were excellent, but still didn't make up for a disappointing overall dining experience. Furthermore, the service during the meal was friendly and adequate but certainly not attentive enough. We were left unattended for long periods and had to call the waitress to request drinks/desserts. All in all, we will never go out of our way to return to this restaurant and we cancelled our second booking of the week for this reason. What a shame. It really used to be wonderful...

two days in Cornwall, two bad meals out - hopefully tomorrow brings us more luck. The reason im wasting my own time ( having just endured a two and a half hour lunch experience with an 8 year old ) is to hopefully leave a small impact on these establishments charging the earth for sub standard experience . nice team, food would of been better if not rushed out at the speed of light having forgotten our order. waitress attempted to clear our table after our starter and offered the bill, at this stage i reminded her we had a ton more food coming. No immediate follow up, i had to flag someone down 20 mins after this to ask if there was an issue to be told ‘ the order didn’t print ‘ - i’ve got enough experience with this to tell you that unless there’s a power cut that printers generally print when they’re told to do so . Just own it, hold your hands up to the error . Not once did someone senior come to apologise for the obscene wait on our food, no recompense was offered and they had the audacity to slam nearly £8 of service charge on the bill. £76 total for one adult, one 8 year old, nearly three hours wasted / lost. perhaps senior staff should take a moment away from making themselves look busy pouring cold drinks to address issues as they arise . an experience i wouldn’t rush to repeat .

Went in here for a drink I said we only wanted a drink as not long eaten, & we had an evening meal booked, was shown to the table given drinks menus & food menus, I ordered a pint of larger for my husband & the extreme hot chocolate for my self it said whipped cream marshmallows chocolate buttons & hundreds & thousands, I asked not to have the hundred & thousands, the young couple on the next table both ordered the same hot chocolate at the same time as ours, approx 10 mins later, the waitress came back & said our drinks would not be much longer, & what food would we like to order, as i previously said no food, went to the young couple the ordered their food, another 15mins later I asked where are drinks where, the waiter went to find out, then the couple got their drinks & their food, then our drinks arrived no marshmallows but hundreds & thousands, the cream was out of a squirty tin, but so high some fell off the mug onto the table, once I had the cream the half filled mug of chocolate was cold which I left, I asked for the bill twice so once hubby finished his larger I made my way to the bar & asked to pay they handed me the card machine should have been £11.50 it showed over £14 I said that’s not correct & also said about the cold hot chocolate, 25 mins after we ordered the drinks, she then showed me the receipt it said over £2 service charge, do you think you deserve a service charge I don’t do I’ll pay for the drinks only, I’ll take it off then she said I said you should be taking the non hot chocolate off also really, as it’s nothing like it said on the menu, but I paid the £11.50 & left, would never use again even for a meal & definitely wouldn’t recommend it,

When I say this place has some absolute bangers in terms of vegan options, I am not joking. We ordered a couple of the starters and 4 dishes from the "tapas" part of the menu, and almost everything was just exceptional. A couple of things were a bit flat flavour wise, but taste is subjective and I'm quite sure others would love them, so I'm not throwing any shade on what was one of my favourite meals since going vegan 7 and a half years ago. The service was lovely, the staff were helpful and extremely tolerant having 5 humans and 3 dogs at one table during lunch service, and the view of Watergate Bay while you're eating is divine. You'll find it hard to not want to grab a body board after your meal and hit the waves. Our non-vegan dining companions were equally happy with their food and experience and I can confirm we will definitely be returning. I highly recommend a visit.

Don't come here for the vegan food! This place came as a package deal with the Sands Resorts and Spa hotel. We had the foodie 2 night deal which included a £40 voucher for a meal at the Beach Hut at Watergate. I chose the cauliflower and Dal meal with hispi cabbage and grilled broccoli as sides as they couldn't make me a simple side salad. Have to say this is one of the worst vegan meals I've had lately. The cauliflower was under cooked, the Dal over salted. The broccoli was supposed to be grilled but virtually raw and the hispi cabbage was coated with something brown on top, again undercooked making it virtually inedible. My sister had the squid on a salad, the salad was basically a base of mostly hummus (we think), some sliced cabbage and fennel with a 4" piece of rubbery octopus leg. Staff were nice enough and did apologise for the food. Unfortunately there wasn't anything else I wanted to eat. I gave one star because the view was nice but I wouldn't come back here again. Having read through the reviews now (wish I'd checked earlier), over priced and poor quality food seems to be a common complaint and please dont reply that you hope to welcome us back another time!!!

Beautiful location and nice looking venue inside but the food was very underwhelming. The shrimp was full of roe, the octopus in the fish stew was rubbery and the nachos were really dry even though the flavour was fine. The burger was also really dry. Such a shame because you couldn't ask for a better location but I definitely wouldn't return

Great efficient service from the pleasant cheerful staff. The tandoori cauliflower was outstanding, as was the chickpea stew. Highly recommended

We arrived almost an hour early for our lunch reservation partly owing to the weather, but it wasn’t a problem getting a table and we were sat in a window seat. Wow! What a spectacular view to have lunch. We found the menu quite limiting, but the food itself was very, very good. Tasty, hot and well presented. Perhaps a little over priced, but then you’re paying for the views as much as the food. The fish and chips were particularly good (although not the curry sauce, peas would have been better)! Desserts were expensive for what they were, we would pass on them next time. Overall a lovely lunch by the beach.

Lovely venue with amazing views and really great service but food below average. Dry pastries, cold coffee. Ordered the tuna salad for lunch which was unfortunately very dry and not worth £20.

Great location!! Right right right on the beach. Had the burger which was good although lacking on fries in my opinion. Mushroom chips were good if a little confusing, beer and cider delicious!

Came for birthday meal..disappointed as the menu I felt was limited and no specials board. Catch of the day was Gurnard and the waitress didn't have a clue what it was or how it was cooked and had to keep asking other staff. It came with lots of bones and hard to eat...my partner had octopus salad and there was one tenticle and it was like rubber, overcooked. Overpriced for what we had and spent £130 that night to be disappointed although that includes a bottle of wine. Also you need to give out proper wine glasses as hard to handle the ones without stems. Won't be returning I'm afraid. However, lovely atmosphere inside and I'm sure will have a great outlook of the bay in the summer.

We came during a weekend lunch. We had reservations. The service was very kind. Very attentive. And the views and overall vibe of the restaurant was absolutely lovely. The food was just fine. We shared the crab bisque and it was pretty fishy. I ordered the fish sandwich. I didn’t like it but this was no fault of the restaurant I just didn’t love the flavors together. The fish was well cooked and crispy and the bun was soft. My husband ordered the fish and chips and the inside was inside of the batter was gummy/doughy. He tried to scrape off the fish but ultimately only ate half. We had a really lovely time honestly I think it might have been an off day for the kit he. They also allow dogs inside and it was so so wonderful to see all the dogs come in.

Excellent indian meal this evening. Can't list all the fishes, but truly authentic. Like the pre-paid fixed menu approach as well. Buy drinks from bar and leave as soon as you're ready.

Popped by for some lunch, and it was faultless. The location was stunning, sea level views. Both me & my partner had fish and chips and it was great quality, table service was top notch. Really liked the Menu idea - all you have to do is scan the QR code on your phone and you can view the full menu from there! Most definitely will come and eat here again.

Lovely food and stunning views. Had delicious seafood stew. Slightly overpriced food and menu could do with a bit more choice. But overall well worth a visit.

Waited almost an hour for two burgers. Arrived before peak lunchtime, place was fairly quite. Cancelled order and left, so can’t rate the food. Service was non-existant though. Responding to beach huts reply below - the restaurant was fairly empty, you had a lot of staff wondering about. We waited forever to order and eventually had to waive for attention to make the order. Then we waited forever for the two burgers to the point where we informed someone at front desk that we intend leaving. We were assured it would take 4-5 mins, so we decided to wait. 10 minutes later still no food, we left. We were there for about an hour, no-one approached us even once, instead we had to engage with staff. The staff are friendly enough, however by no means very welcoming and certainly not engaging. It looked like your staff do the absolute minimum and in our case completely dropped the ball because of their nevermind attitude.

This is restaurant is right on the beach, fantastic views etc. We were expecting excellent to good service/food, but received mediocre food, awkward and unnatural service - which totally kills the vibe. We ordered starters, Burgers, Mussels, extra sides and 1 kids meal, desserts and coffees. This use of the QR code menu and lack of table service, gives what should be a lovely restaurant the feel of a generic chain. The servers (when they emerge, quickly deliver your food), seem uncharismatic and rush their social interactions. Even more disappointing was the auto-adds for a non-exsistent service fee! Management - get rid of that awful QR menu, and train & empower your staff to provide the service anyone visiting would expect. Burger was very bland with no flavour at all. Goats cheese salad was missing something.... just by adding pickled cabbage or beetroot or maybe gherkins would have made it better. Just didn't hit the spot.

My 86 year old Mother in law stopped off here for hot chocolate whilst the family walked the dogs the full length of the bay. She was advised that she should pay on leaving. No mention was made of the 'cash free' eco footprint of the establishment until she went to make this 'on exit' payment of £4 when she was told "we don't give change"!! As you might imagine I could say a lot more but suffice to say had she been advised of this policy upon ordering a family member could have proffered a card payment. Snared and embarrassed she left feeling as though she had been politely mugged. There was me naively thinking she was going to tell us that you'd made a nice gesture and told her it was 'on the house'! Well done...you missed out on a much bigger order from a large group and alienated a whole family and all those they share this with. What a truly awful policy. You should be deeply ashamed of yourselves.

can't really comment on the food as we just popped in for cake and tea (which were delicious). Sadly, the cake I wanted was out of stock, but my back up choice was lovely. Interior is warm and inviting, with big windows outlooking the beach. Dog friendly.

The prices are a absolute joke for the quality of food on offer. £16.50 for fish and chips. £5 for a small piece of stale bread. A group of 4 of us only had mains and it came to £140! Including a rather sneakily added 10% service charge. What service was this sorry. I had to look at the menu on my phone. Tell people about the service charge as you hand over the crippling bill. Turn the lights up a bit. It's bloody dark in there and drop the qr code. If I go out for food I don't want to have to stare at my phone

I have loved the friendly service, fresh produce and ambience of the Beach Hut for years. It was therefore so disappointing to find that electronic menus and impersonal service has replaced the understanding of customer care. Furthermore, the quality of the food has become inferior and well overpriced for what is on offer. Therefore until there is a change of management, I will unfortunately have to take this venue off my routine.

Nice place over looking the Bay. Their are plenty of staff doing a lot of walking about but the service was poor. No one came to take are order for food for around 20 minutes we had to call someone. Food was nice but pricey. Wasn't aware their was a service charge until reading the reviews explains why we were over charged by £4, Very quickly shown the payment machine but no explanation to service charge. Not asked did we enjoy are meals.

I'm not sure if it's allowed to have crushes on breakfast staff, but if so, then the guy who served us this morning has officially won my heart! Seriously, though, he was incredibly kind and professional. If there are any awards for exceptional service, he deserves one!

The golden lion pub in St. Ives, Cornwall is a big golden lie. The only semi accurate portion of their image is the lion. All of the food tasted as if it was found inside the rotting, months-old carcass of a poached lion. The onion rings were wet and pustular, they tasted as if they were fried in the neck oil of the surly bartender who took our order. The testicular mushrooms were the best thing we ordered even though the garlic mayo on the side resembled a tepid bowl of curdled man-milk. The burgers were obviously cooked on a griddle that hasn’t been cleaned in years. The food had remnants of meals from years past. Giving it a vintage, nostalgic quality. The chicken was shriveled and flavorless with enough mayonnaise goop on it to feed a family of 4. While waiting waiting for the fhood, we had time to take in the odor of unwashed children and great-grandpas ashtray. The table we sat at had a stickiness that I’ve only felt on the gummy underside of a second graders desk. 3 hours later, while writing this review, we taste these rancid flavors once again through accursed burps. This truly remarkable combination of disgusting furniture, surly servers, and god-awful food has truly cemented this place into our hall of shame.

Myself and wife went here for Sunday carvery it was £15 each and we was disappointed with the quality and the service, we paid for our meals via the on line system and the waitress bought us our drinks and our tickets to take up to the carvery counter, while we was waiting we noticed the chef who was cutting the meat was sweating profusely and wiping brow with his arm, when I got to the counter I asked him for beef and pork and he cut them about 3 inches thick! Far too thick to cut with a regular knife easily, and the pork had so much white fat around it, the yorkshires were disgustingly awful, the road potatoes were very hard and tasted stale, the squares of stuffing were very nice tho as was the buttered carrots and the cabbage, unfortunately the Swede was a bit tasteless and we had to scrape the gravy barrel to try to get some gravy out!! Overall a disappointment to be honest, even the table we was on was wobbly, also to point out as well it was very very warm in there. Unfortunately we won’t be returning, we might of just been unlucky because the pub was busy and is in a loverly location, so it might of just been a bad day.
