Fantastic spot overlooking the sea. I have been coming here for 24 years. Wonderful homemade cakes. Vegan sausage rolls made with vegetables and lentils. Great staff, good strong coffee. A Llantwit Major institution.

Beautiful setting and views. Right on the beach with the Bristol Channel laid out before you, this is a small and friendly place which serves a good range of food and drink. We stopped there as part of our coastal walk, and had a full breakfast….which was brilliant!

Lovely little place, we were served by a friendly young fella and sat out with ice creams in the sun BUT a lady came out to deliver food and called an order number loudly but no one responded. Then two more women came out to deliver the food and started f’ing loudly about the last lady in front of our young children. BAD SHOW. As paying customers we don’t want to hear your grievances! Sounded a lot like bullying. No wonder staff are required.

Was looking for somewhere new, with a view, for coffee and this place came up. The reviews were awful to say the least. However...i was keen to go to the area and give it a try..and am glad we did. Not sure why the previous reviews were so bad but honestly we turned up on a Sunday ,mid day ish. Not expecting a lot. Parking was excellent, first tick after the narrow lanes to get to it. Staff were lovely..helpful and polite and no edge. Quite a big menu and as an unexpected bonus several vegan options! Sausage rolls and a selection of cakes too...lots of city center places offer less. The mains menu was varied and staff were happy for us to faff about and swap things (had an Autistic guest so it mattered). We sat in the garden area which was very big with a lot of seating but well spaced. we ordered at the counter and staff brought the foods out to us. In quick time too, This place doesn't profess to be anything other than a cafe....which is good as it is a very good cafe. Prices weren't bad and portions were big...no negatives for us. We are definitely going to go back....

Very disappointed with the size of my takeaway tea. It was half the size of my husbands coffee. I did question the young lad who served me and I was told it was the same size as a teacup would hold . Our drinks were delicious , piping hot but I ve never had such a small tea !

Just such a sad state of affairs. The most beautiful location it could be so much more .. it’s run down , old and dirty. Unfriendly staff , infact I witnessed a member of staff being extremely rude to the young lad that was working there . Food cold , and very expensive , they don’t take cards … also have you ever come across a sit in cafe or restaurant where they are serving £11 meals but charge extra for ketchup or brown sauce ? 🤣… good grief! Every cafe and restaurant I’ve ever been to have these kind of condiments on the table!! The whole place needs gutting , it could be wonderful in there but the owners clearly don’t care. Can’t even be bothered to install a card payment machine . Cash only!

When ingredients come to less than £4 and your charged around £12.50 that's one thing, but when your given 1 sachet of vinegar and your charged 10p for a sache of red sauce that's taking the P.ss particularly when your served frozen chips. Additionally items that should be priced are not. The place was clean and the service reasonable. But two coffees, two chips and one pies in a beach cafe with 50s furniture at £12 50 is a ripp off. Another business on the band wagon of hiking prices

Visited here after a lovely coastal walk. What a disappointment - Ordered 3 ice creams, 1 callipo and 1 black coffee. Originally the assistant got our order wrong but politely corrected this. I was gobsmacked when she said “£11.50”. Black coffee is a no brainier as is the callipo but the scoops of ice cream were very small and served in cheap cones! Total rip off …. And cash only - very user unfriendly. Needless to say this visit is our last

We visited this establishment on a sharp cold windy day , & that was exactly the 'welcome' we got from the young lad with black glasses & pony tail . Practising social distancing we politely waited our turn , Then asked ' Are dogs allowed inside please ? ' NO ! Came back the reply ( No apologies there ) I might add no visible signs any where outside advising of this to save asking . So I ordered one ( small ) coffee & slice of cake , The lad clearly didn't want to be there & had a permanent frown on his chops , I was shocked to get a few pence change out of £5 ! Returning to our car I noticed the coffee was barely luke warm & considering the price paid felt duty bound to return it for replacement. This took over five minutes whilst he ' Divered around ' doing other things ! A mumbled apologie was given as I was ' Requested to sit & wait ! Next we asked to use the loo - NO ! Came back the reply & upon asking why ' use the life station toilets over there ' ( pointing to rear of building ) * Incidentally in an awafull state * They may well be the only establishment on site & have a captive audience, But clearly have a lot to learn about customer service. NOT IMPRESSED !!!

In we came to the café and we had a flapjack and 2 absolutely wonderful hot milky coffees. We sat there under the picture of the Waverley in the year we had travelled to Ilfracombe on it and we watched the families set their children down with chocolate cakes and Sausage rolls while Mums made sure the wet clothes came off and dry ones on. No complaints from the children they just wanted to eat the cake. This beach front cafe is a real nostalgia trip, for me at least. The owner Maria has lived or worked here on and off for 48 years, her parents owned the cafe and managed a static caravan site in the meadow that sits between the beach and the village of Llantwit Major. My family were lucky enough to own one of the caravans and we used to decamp from our Bristol home during school holidays in the 60s and 70s and spend idyllic breaks with fabulous friends and family.

This cafe is open nearly every day of the year, rain or shine, and it's right at the head of the beach so the view is lovely. Great for fish and chips and ice cream for the sand castle and dog-walking crowd, and the cakes are lovely too. It's a bit pricey but you're paying for the location. However there's no proper coffee machine so it's a bit disappointing to have only instant 'Rombouts' coffee in this day and age of skinny lattes/cappuccinos etc. The interior is also a bit basic but when the weather is good that doesn't matter as you can sit outside and look at the sea. Dogs are welcome on a lead, outside. They also sell the usual beach accessories such as buckets and spades, and souvenirs of Llantwit Major. You can park in the nearby beach car park for free.

At the end of such activity there was a definite need for refreshment and the Beach Cafe called...and what better on a cold January day than a bowl of warming leek and potato soup or a chunky bacon sandwich. Can't speak for the sarnie [ but Mme attacked it enthusiastically] but that soup was excellent, (wish I'd asked for the recipe cos though I make it myself regularly, can't ever get it that tasty}. Visited in July, just missed the hottest day of the year...as it happened, it rained..we were paying a surprise visit to family. I have to say the walk down from Llantwit was lovely. The cafe is smashing, it's a bit 60s/70s in the nicest way. It's a typical seaside cafe. The menu is very good, and caters for all. We had a selection of meals, from cheeseburgers (excellent) to sausage, Chips and gravy. The strawberry milk shakes were excellent. Meal done, souvenirs to buy, plenty available, including the traditional seaside rock. If the weather is good, then there is plenty seats available outside. The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. One point to note, there were a group of youngsters, obviously full of exuberance, having just gone on school holidays..they could easily have spoiled the experience for visiting holidaymakers, and seemed to go unchecked.?. All told, if you are visiting Llantwit, go and enjoy the cafe at the beach, the food is very good and the place is very clean, I doubt if you will be disappointed.

Other reviewers are quick to criticize however, 1, The coffee is instant but only costs £1.75 a cup not the Near £4 that coffee shops charge.2 There are many reviews saying that it is expensive, well I disagree. the pricing is though very inconsistent. a few examples:A portion of chips £2.20, a pie or Pasty £1.85 total £4.05 however if you order the Pie & chips main meal it will cost you more than £6 so they charge more than £2 for a few peas and a splash of gravy.A sandwich is £3.25 or £3.75 if you want it toasted, however a burger (with onions & ketchup) will cost you just £2.75, a dish of soup with a bread roll will cost you £3.75.So like I said, inconsistent, Cakes are between £1.50 and £1.95 which is a fraction of many Coffee shops. It is what it is a beach café, if you want bone china cups, saucers a doilies then go to a fine hotel and pay through the nose.If you want basic filling food then this is a good place, but study the menu to work out the best deals. They also sell beach toys and a limited selection of souvenirs.

After a muddy walk along the cliff top we were desperate for a hot drink and a light lunch. The generous amount of lean and crispy bacon in the brown bread sandwiches together with a plentiful supply of tea left us refreshed to carry on walking the coast path. The staff were very efficient and friendly and not concerned about the state of our boots. We will definitely call again with less mud we hope.

Visited the Beach Café a few times over the years. Staff seem friendly enough, but the place is stuck in a time warp, not the most attractive place to visit.Ordered a Chicken Curry and Rice, served up on a rather smallish plate, I guess to trick the brain into thinking its a large portion, sadly it didn't work..I was taken aback by the extremely small bits of chicken in the curry, cut to a size of about 1cm, only wish I had taken a photo. At £6.50 this was a total insult.I was asked if I had enjoyed my meal? the answer was a polite No, and explained my displeasure.

My partner and I visited this cafe for a morning breakfast. Unfortunately we were greeted by a very old fashioned decor. After selecting what we wished to order from the over priced menu we decided to place our order, only to find they did not accept card. The lady I dealt with seemed quite rude when I asked the question if they took card. As if I should have known they only accepted cash.I will not be returning!

Not good value. Takes advantage of the remote location shamelessly. Staff are friendly and the outdoor seating area is very nice in the summer. Good place for coffee when it's warm!

Fab place to stop on a cycle, staff friendly place is tired but but it provides everything you could wish for excellent ice cream, and variety of unhealthy pleasures like cakes, bacon sandwiches and the like . Well worth a visit

A great place to call into whilst down at the beach. Has everything you need and more. A very welcome brew when the weather outside leaves a lot to be desired

A classic beach cafe. this is wales and warm fare as well as icecream may be in demand on the sam day so you can get chips and cocoa at the same time as your ice cream cone and any amount of plastic beach paraphernalia. Staff are friendly.

This place has so many good memories for me although for someone new visiting it will seem like you have stepped back in time. Food is great though and very well run.

Perhaps being a 'Local' adds a little bit of extra love to this review. The decor is very much back in time, almost kitsch with its pink paint and spotted table coverings and local art work. Mix with this the seaside Rock, Postcards and childrens Beach toys. Nets, Kites, Beach Balls etc and you have UK Seaside at its best. The staff are always polite and friendly in this family run cafe. The menu is simple but can always offer just the right dish for most occasions ( what a place for a Wedding reception, come on someone, be brave!) Its always good to check the opening times in the Winter as if its quiet they may close early. Over time it has served as a place to laugh or even cry. A true local landmark. Enjoy.

Having lived in Llantwit Major several years, I was lucky to visit the Beach Cafe on many many occasions. The owners Albert and Maria are always welcoming and game for a laugh. I recommend a visit here wholeheartedly.Situated about a mile or so from the centre of Llantwit Major village, there is ample car parking available which is free. Once there, you can enjoy pleasant walks along the coastal path which is well recommended. The cafe does not have its own toiled facilities, but they are available nearby in the life saving building.

Location is great. Staff were friendly. Coffee was wet and hot but not good coffee taste. Toasties were ok, the cheese was a little bland but the side salad was fresh and tasty. Welsh cakes were disappointing as they were very dry and tasted strange!

Arrived late in village 16th July and our accommodation had fell through. The young chap here couldn't have been more helpful. Used his own phone and tried a few places. Got us sorted in local pub. Great many thanks

What a terrible experience from start to finish! Firstly we ordered drinks that sat on the bar getting warm for 20min before being served to us! We ordered food which took ages to come 50 min to be exact and it wasn’t busy! Two meals were served then we waited another 10 min for the other two meals to be served. The presentation of the food is awful it comes and doesn’t look at all appealing. Asked for mayo, ketchup and vinegar 10 min later we were still waiting and had to ask again. Southern fried chick burger was almost burnt so overcooked the chicken was dry! Steak and ale pie pastry do hard it was difficult to cut. Very tasteless and gravy like water. Fries were frozen bag fries that looked anemic and were soft and soggy. We weren’t asked at all if we wanted more drinks! Ordered side of 8 onion rings were served 3. Would I eat here again NEVER! Don’t listen to the good reviews this place is terrible both service and food!

Good atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff. The food wasn't the best sizzler I've had but not entirely the worst neither. Took a while to come out. The fish and chips was the best out of the meals we had.

The food was delicious, had a really good time, and we will definitely eat there again. The toilets we're really clean. The service was amazing, the young lady named Kim, was very polite, friendly, did her job very well. I do think that the service from Kim, is a big factor of myself and my family returning to The Cherry Orchard.
