The Beach Cafe in Chichester

We had a lovely lunch here toda, soup was excellent so my husband tells me and so was my Caesar salad,thank you very much to all the staff. And also a very big plus for us is that they are dog friendly

Extremely average is the best I can do. Had the fish and ships as they call it. Fish is not freshly sourced but obtained pre shaped & battered from a wholesaler. Wrong type of chips served. Fries don’t go with fish and chips. Should be chunky chips. The mushy peas tasted great but was only a very small portion. Coffee was average. You have to wait to be seated and then line up and place the order at the counter? Don’t understand that concept. Wouldn’t recommend it.

First time at the Beach Cafe, West Wittering beach, for breakfast. The coffee is great as was the breakfast and the staff were lovely. My only disappointment was that there is no beach or view of the sea from the restaurant at all! Bit of a misnomer - might as well have been built in a car park in Chichester! Perhaps they could build another deck above the cafe to provide a view of the sea over the hedges?

Couldn't get a smoothie as they don't take cash. Hadn't brought card as out for short walk on beach, but thought how nice it would be to have a cold drink. Refused cash.

Having read the reviews I didn’t hold out much hope for a decent meal for the prices that I paid. Of course it is a tourist trap as it is the one place you can get food right on one of the most beautiful beaches on the south coast. That means you pay over the odds but as eating out has become extremely expensive I actually thought this was reasonably priced for the excellent food we got. All four of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals including a choosy child. I had a cracking fish and chips. The batter was light and crisp, the chips were delicious, my only criticism was I wish there was more of the amazing mushy peas and mint. The baked potato was well sized and generously filled and the nachos were plentiful and well dressed. Four hearty meals with drinks and some ice creams for less than £50. No pleasing some people.

As a local I thought I’d give this a try and will not be venturing back in any time soon. Took my mother on Mother’s Day. Took an hour to be seated (this was on us) as we made that choice to stay. Once at the front of the queue we were told it will be an hour wait on food. It really did take an hour as well. Drinks took about 25-30mins with one order wrong and one missing. The mugs were half full, one of our party even went up and asked for it to be filled up properly, very stingy with hot water seemingly. An hour after our order went in the food arrived, again one order was wrong but by this point we took what we were given. Charging restaurant prices for very basic food. The chips were good, everything else was bland and again portions were not what you’d expect vs what you’re paying. Much better options in East Wittering and I was encourage the owner to visit those restaurants to see how it should be done. Clearly staffing was a huge issue but it could have been managed so much better if there was someone leading the staff. Saw lots of other people complain as well. This could be something special instead it’s a tourist trap, you visit once and then avoid

Lovely home made soup and pate. Food was high quality, served well and good value. Nice tea! Lovely surroundings. Good place to call in after beach walk.

This is what £9 pound gets you, a new potato and some leaves When I asked if this size of potato was normal they said all of their potatoes are different sizes When I complained they added more beans, another tablespoon full which took 10 minutes by which time the rest of the party had finished eating

Ambiance great! Breakfast 10/10. Service, ok! We were seated at a table that hadn’t been cleaned and when we asked the waiter if he could clean it he replied ‘yes’. Within a few seconds he’d clearly forgotten so we asked another waiter who was very obliging but needed instructions on how to do it. We then noticed that 5 out of 6 other tables were cleared but not cleaned, surely this is something to be done automatically before seating the next customer. Will definitely return but I would advise everyone to take some wipes with them as we will. I think a more experienced person in charge and giving instructions would help. This cafe was full however but then again there’s no other choice at West Wittering beach anymore.

We stopped in here from our walk on the beach to have lunch this Saturday. We ordered one order of whitebait, a side of chips and tea for two to share. Two criticisms: our portion of whitebait was ridiculously small for £7,50. It was basically just one small teacup of fish. Also, why cut the heads off the whitebait? Surely whitebait is meant to be served whole? Certainly I’ve never seen it be served anywhere like it in this way before. Apart from these two criticisms it was a pleasant experience.

We stopped here for a quick coffee and had a lovely coffee and cake plus sausage rolls. The service was quick and the location is great!

Whilst visiting West Wittering Beach for the day, we wanted somewhere to stop for food and stumbled across this Cafe basically a stones throw from the beach. We had our dog with us and was going to ask if it was okay for us to sit outside and eat with them, when we realised the Cafe had lots of dogs inside already, and us and our dog were welcomed inside with warm smiles by the staff. I ordered the cheese burger and chips, and my fiance went for the scampi and chips, but asked for it without the salad and coleslaw and to have onion rings instead on the side. I also asked for garlic bread for us as I liked the look of it on the menu. Well… what we received was not what we were expecting - massive portions! An entire bowl of onion rings, 4 large pieces of garlic bread, and our mains, with so many chips! Large glasses for drinks, like Sprite and Cola off tap or in bottles. The staff were so friendly and lovely and came over and gave our dog a tickle as it was his 2nd Birthday. What a lovely place, would definitely recommend. Shame we didn’t have room for cake!

Didn’t eat here as it was a 45 minute wait for food ??! What ??! Place looked lovely though and staff were friendly. Toilets were clean. Will go back and hope it’s a bit better organised next time.

I stumbled across this cafe after a two-hour walk. Maybe it’s because I was hungry, maybe it was tired, maybe it was because I was happy, but the turkey pie and chips was completely amazing. On the menu it came with Brussel Sprouts. But I don’t like Brussel Sprouts. When I asked if I could have extra chips instead of Brussel Sprouts I was told yes. This was exactly what I wanted to hear. tt took me half an hour to eat and was the only meal I ate all day. And one of the best I had all year. Thank you!

A pleasure to visit this cafe - coffee is excellent, food is well cooked, well presented and very good value for money . Staff friendly and professional - if it’s quiet they don’t just stand around, they never stop tidying up, restocking counter etc. Admittedly we are local with 2 dogs so we just pick and choose when to go ie never in peak season when it’s just manically busy inside and out. But for visitors who don’t want to rely on picnics it’s a brilliant facility so you just put up with the wait and what’s available - I think they do a great job .

Lovely coffee, beautiful cakes with friendly staff. Looking forward to visiting again, will be walking summer and winter with the dogs.
