The Bay Tree Grill in Shepway

I came to the hotel today for a ladies cream tea as part of a large group. The frame was lovely but the food very poor. The allocated portion od sandwiches was only 2 (very small triangular) per person, and with the way it was set up, I only got the last two of the whole selection, which I didn't fancy having, and there was no refill possible. The scones were warm when brought to the table, but within 5 minutes they were already dry. The tea and coffee had to be poured by waiters but they were very understaffed and clearly overwhelmed. Once they had poured the tea, we had to wait 5 min for milk to arrive. Tea pots could at least have been left on the table. And to top it all, when I sat down, there was no cup for my seat, and once they brought one to me, they forgot the spoon...

Good, but not really great, in some ways 4.5? We booked at hotel Reception as requested. We wanted a late time, but were told 1900 and 1930 were fully booked anyway....surprised to find only one table taken when we arrived in the restaurant, so little atmosphere. Starters good, especially rabbit ballotine. Main courses mainly traditional English, but with nice sauces and garnish, good quality, generous portions. Note that grilled items do not include sides, whilst other mains do. Service pleasant and efficient. Prices appropriate for this kind of place. We enjoyed our meal, but might not return.

We came for a surprise 50th afternoon tea, group of 8 ladies, i was the one who organised the afternoon, and from the first phone call making the booking it was a great experience Garry took my booking extremely helpful and delight to have spoken with him, my sister then went to set up on the morning and again the Bar manager was very helpful and polite, the afternoon tea its self was lovely so much food, and the carrot cake has to be the best thing i have ever eaten, we also had some cocktails, i would recommend this place, everyone in the bar burst into happy birthday when the cake was brought out, lovely atmosphere inside which was great as it was pouring with rain outside.

I was one of a social group of friends who ate in the restaurant on Saturday 24,Sunday 25 on first night I had chicken from the special Synergy oven and can only say that of the thousands of ways of cooking chicken this is not to be recommended. It was as dry as a cricket ball and came without a sauce or gravy to relieve the monotony. The second meal was a Garden Club sandwich (£13-50) which seemed to be constructed from left over-dry breakfast t last ( three layers unfortunately) a few slivers of avocado and a dried slice of bacon. It was almost inedible had I not been a new member of the group I would have sent it back They are called the not grumpies) . I The next day I had an upset stomach and had to take Imodium. The hotel is quite a way from the town and the restaurant was almost empty. My advice is take a taxi into town where there is excellent pub food available. There had been a wedding so maybe the chef had a couple of nights off , maybe we were just unlucky.

Dinner for one Roasted Courgette and Oyster Mushroom gnocchi, tempura courgette crisps, pumpkin seeds, mushrooms and miso gravy If you want to know if a chef can not only cook but can create flavours then give a selection of the humble vegetable. The flavours and different textures all combined to make for one of the best meals I've ever had. And as for the miso gravy where can I buy this please aa it was the sort of gravy you could drink by the mug full.

My partner and I arrived early and had a drink a cocktail each in the bar. We were then led into the restaurant by our friendly waitress who spoke us through the menu and was was very helpful with us when we ordering. The chicken schnitzel was delicious, heaps of mushroom sauce on top of mashed potato and a perfectly crisp and juicy chicken breast. My partner had the rib eye with a few sides and also thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Finished off with coffee's in the bar. Our waitress ordered them so they were already waiting for us. Very efficient staff on all counts and delicious food!

Great choice of sandwiches and sweet treats- good value for money. Superb service from Charlie and a complimentary box of chocolates for my friend whose birthday it was. Clean and smart place with lovely atmosphere.

We were staying at the Best Western before going on the shuttle. We had a Lovely meal in the hotel restaurant with excellent service.

Popped in with some friends for my partners birthday, The food was delicious and the cocktails were gorgeous! The team is young and fresh and could not do enough to make my partners birthday special, we will definitely be returning.

When we arrived it soon became apparent there were staffing issues. We were advised that there may be a wait due to this which was accepted. However, despite six staff milling about there was a definate lack of management skills. Our first courses arrived and I was rather concerned that "potted shrimp" arrived warm and was totally bland and would suggest it had been frozen and defrosted too rapidly. The mains were average, being kind, and we lost the will for dessert. In all a very disappointing experience.

My friend and I booked a table for mothers day..received a glass of prosecco very nice. We then had to ask for a wine list after about 20minutes starter was lovely, also main course. My friend had cod. I had beef after asking two different staff for horseradish, it eventually came. 10minutes, my food was lukewarm, dessert eaten mess. WELL shop bought meringue no fresh cream. It was awful, we eat out a lot and thought we would try the baytree never again

Excellent customer service and the meal was simply delicious. Not a vast menu but what we had was excellent. Would highly recommend.

We had great expectation having not been out for Christmas Dinner in 20 years The service was good and the staff pleasant. We expected to pay over the odds but for £120 a head we did expect to be filled up. We all chose the traditional turkey dinner for our main course and it came outer-made up on the smallest possible plate with half a carrot and 1 1/2 sprouts and 2 small roast potatoes. No Yorkshires and a tiny piece of turkey. The cheese and biscuits I chose afterwards looked like it was portioned for a mouse . Really how could Scrooge still be alive! We went to our local afterwards and had to have some adult size food having been fleeced for £500!

If you like Gin this is the bar for for you, 52 different Gins, fantastic cocktails, but also great Beer, Lager and for me the biggest selection of Non- Alcholic Drinks. Also tea’s coffees and finally the food was amazing. The Bar staff are so friendly and helpful, If you get Gabriel he is the most charming, helpful and knowledgeable you man ever. The chef is very talented. I had the Sea Bass (Pan Friend) with Asparagus, Perfect Fondant Potatoes, and a Hollandaise with Tomato sauce, it was truly 100% perfect. Also they are very talented at Liquer Coffee. A great bar, just 1 minute from the Clifftop Promenade.

I have visited here a few times. Service is always good and the decor is lovely. This particular day we sat outside, celebrating a friend's birthday, perfect little sun trap for most of the afternoon. Due to restrictions it was table service and at no point were we short of attention, or a drink. When paying the 3 separate bills they were worked thoroughly and correctly. Thank you Bay Tree :)

Interior is nice. The staff took a very long time to take drink orders. Some didn’t speak great English so paying was difficult. Won’t return as I didn’t feel like I was welcome there.
