BAD GIRLS HOTEL LTD We had a business meeting over some drinks. I had Harvey's which was good. Staff and beers and atmosphere are nice and old school. Proper old boozer. However the bank ID for this place shows up as BAD GIRLS HOTEL LTD so maybe take a business lunch in Yoemans and stick with this for somewhere you don't have to explain that to finance.

Down from London to Worthing for work, I felt a burning need to head to Brighton as a balm for my woes; a friend of mine recommended the Battle of Trafalgar as somewhere to go; I am so glad I listened to him (a rare occasion)! The team were fabulous, the food was really lovely (I had calamari and my word was that tasty; we all know how bland that can be- but this *chef’s kiss*!) and, although I’m comparing to London prices, a large glass of red wine was happily inexpensive! Music was wonderful too - I fear I made quite a fool myself lip-synching to ZZ Top’s ‘Sharp Dressed Man’ (sorry!) tldr: try the Battle of Trafalgar pub. I did, and did not regret it one iota.

Tomamos unas copas y cenamos temprano. No estoy seguro de cuánto tiempo han estado sirviendo comida caribeña, pero fue honestamente fenomenal! El chef era tan agradable, charlamos con ella y ella claramente hace toda la comida con amor y habilidad. A proper boozer with proper Brighton characters behind the bar, all super friendly and helpful & great choice of ales & beers. You don't find authenticity like this often these days, so enjoy it while you can. Definitely a pub for a return and prolonged visit. Update: I'm informed that it has changed hands but still has the same feel. The decor has been refreshed but this has not upset the character of it. Excellent ale!

Went in for a drink and when I checked my bank account I thought I’d been scammed - payment to ‘ bad girls hotel Ltd’ - not sure what that’s about but naff or what. Bad atmosphere in pub, don’t think I saw a single staff member smile let alone any of the customers. Sad, this used to be such a great pub… the Yeoman has had a refurb by the look of it, will go there next time I’m passing.

Tend not to drink in this part of town since moving but this used to be an incredible pub. Friendly, buzzing, excellently kept beers and good food. Errrrrm, had I walked into a paralel universe? After a vile train journey I suggested to my other half we needed a pint. Might as well have not bothered. I apologise for disturbing the member of staff during their texting session with whoever they were texting but hey, you know, you're there to pour beers and stuff yes? Not sure when this current crowd took over but sure as hell I can't see the lines as having been cleaned in a lonnnnng time. The politeness of the level of service was as good as the atmosphere (used to be incredible on a late Sunday afternoon) which is to say.......non existent. Should try brushing your fingernails once in a while too, not a good look. We were going to have something to eat but given the general state of the place we didn't even bother to ask if food was still on. We didn't stay long and went to a better pub. Sort it out. It's gone from being one of the very best Brighton has to offer to the worst pub I've been into this year or maybe even ever.

Unhygienic, rude and incompetent. A jewel of a Brighton pub ruined. In one visit, I was served beer twice in unwashed glasses, the bar staff seemed too befuddled to use the till, and were surly when I asked to pay. The choice of drinks is now risibly small, and the food, some of the best in town, has now gone, them having inexplicably removed the chef. This has always been a warm welcoming brilliantly run pub with a great atmosphere. It's now, dirty, unwelcoming and run incompetently, by people who seems to be far more concerned with satisfying his own desires than those of any customer. There seems no will to understanding the market, assess the opportunity and execute a considered plan to actually build a business. Instead its darkness, loud bad music and bad attitude literally creating an inexplicably inhospitable experience for what is meant to be a hospitably business. Do yourself a favour, there are plenty of nicer pubs in the area where the staff actually do care about your custom.

Whole gave Beavis and Butthead the keys to a pub? Literally some of the best food in town ruined but the soundtrack of Kerrang 1981. Turn it down, it's a pub where people want to socialise and interact. If I wanted to be in the front row of a Twisted Sister concert I would be. Unbelievably myopic management, who can't see past their own microscopically niche tastes that went out of fashion when Michael Bolton ran out of hair to perm. Formally brilliant pub, now out of ideas, out of stock of decent booze and sadly at massive risk of going out of business.

The Battle of Trafalgar pub in Guildford Rd used to be one of THE truly great pubs in Brighton. The food was sublime, with beautifully prepared dishes and a menu extending well beyond what you’d usually expect of pub-fare. The beers were always well kept, and the barman really knew his spirits. It was a friendly and welcoming space where people of all kinds and walks of life could come together, and you never knew what chance conversations might emerge as a result. Recently the pub was taken over by new licensees who seem to think that what makes a pub is to play 1980s rock and heavy metal music loud enough that you have to shout to have a conversation. The fine whiskys, bourbons, rums and tequilas have almost completely gone. Only a few nearly empty bottles of the hard stuff remain, now replaced by plastic skeletons. The new bar staff are friendly, but surely the point of going to a pub is that it is somewhere to go if you want a decent drink and to meet people for a chat, somewhere with a sense of community, not a platform for the landlord’s rather niche taste in music. The food is still outstanding, but I can’t see this continuing to be viable as it’s not easy to enjoy a meal with friends when you can’t hear what they are saying to you, and when at any given moment the landlord might decide to dim the lighting so much you suddenly can’t see what you’re eating. The last time I went in there, it looked like a lot of the former regulars had gone.

My favourite pub for many a year; a pub that refuses to modernise. I mean, the beer and food are up to date, but the vibe (and the ceiling) are definitely lo-fi. Sadly, it's just about to change management, so who knows what will become of it. EDIT: The new landlord, Dylan, seems to be a really nice chap, and Ness is reopening the kitchen tomorrow, so it would appear to be a case of business as usual. Hurrah!

One of the best pubs in Brighton, if not the best for location, like minded people, range of beer, outside space, has become something no one wanted. The thing I really liked about it was that even at its busiest you would always get served quickly by experienced staff that knew when your turn was. Those staff have gone, the new ones may learn, but I doubt they'll stay around long enough. It's a great shame, it has been the same for decades and now it has gone. The Battle is extinct. It gets two stars because it still has character, just not many characters.

What has happened to our wonderful pub!!! Very loud music, dirty tables, sticky floors, reduced selection of drinks, overgrown garden, long term bar staff have left, all in 7 weeks since Mel left. Both previous owners knew there cliental, regulars came to meet friends and talk, not having to shout at them over loud music, the toilets were always clean and not smelly as they are now. So many people are so disappointed and angry at the way the pub has changed. This pub was a gem in Brighton, well known and respected for being a traditional pub and had a great following which is sadly changing now.

Had a really great evening in this friendly 'local' which happens to be only a couple of minutes from Brighton Station! Usually, I only come for the (excellent!) Sunday roast, or occasionally for the (very popular) Monday quiz. Plenty of room for my midweek visit this time though, and 2 of us tucked into the home-made food, all huge portions, and very reasonably priced. Two of us had chicken curry, which came with naan, rice and mango chutney. The 2 veggies loved theirs too; one had the veggie chilli nachos topped with sour cream and plenty of japalenos, and the other had veggie chilli served with rice. All washed down with a variety of ciders, beers and some nicely chilled white wine. We'll be back for more very soon!

The team went above and beyond, with the chef (or maybe the owner) even bringing out a full roast dinner just for our dog, who absolutely loved it! It was such a thoughtful gesture that really touched us. The atmosphere here is warm and inviting—definitely recommend!

The chef smokes outside in full chef uniform. If this is the standards they display, imagine how bad the actual kitchen hygiene is!

If you're looking for excellent seafood by the beach, this is the place. Generous portions, friendly staff, excellent food and not overpriced, this place was a dream!! Cannot recommend enough! The chips were perfect 👌
