The food was really good. Too bad they’re closing.

Simply just overpriced food that you can get from supermarket. Service is poor with waiters forgetting order and ignoring you in multiple times. Not recommended.

Adore Basin, heartbroken that it's closing, praying the building owners lower their extortionate rent so that Loughborough can keep it's favourite restaurant!

So sad to see it close down. But was always great to eat there. Staff are always friendly and helpful.

I absolutely love this place and used to go here so often when i lived in Loughborough. The food there was amazing, and the people were so nice. I was so sad hearing about it closing, and i wish i could go back and have the food one last time.

"Too busy to accommodate you as a last minute walk in customers" is the reason given to serve you a off market bottle of drink after 45 minutes of sitting down. One of the most rude response I ever get in my life. If the restaurant are too busy you could either refuse walk in, or hire more staff. Manager need to give more training on customer service. Sorry but I would never visit this any time soon.

We are so sad that the Basin closing. We've visited tonight and the food was exceptional! The spicy salmon sushi was the best we've had and there's nowhere else around here with sushi as good as this. We will truly miss this restaurant!

Cute restaurant. I went for an evening meal for my partners birthday. The sushi starters are delicious!! Really good cocktail choices. I tried the salmon teriyaki, too much teriyaki for me but I would definitely try again!! My partner had the pad thai and LOVED it!!

One of our favourite places to eat in Loughborough. The food is always top notch. We had a mix of sushi dishes, dim sum and rice. Everything was delicious. The non alcoholic drinks were lush too especially the Gingerberry. The staff was fast and friendly. A great place to celebrate.

Dry, flavourless noodle dish : sushi is acceptable

We arranged a meal for 3 people to celebrate our daughters birthday. We sat at our table immediately and offered drinks within 2 minutes. We had a great night, and the cocktails were properly made from scratch! We decided on a variety of starters with a couple of main meals thrown in, and we shared everything. The waiters and waitresses were polite and informative on the different dishes and made us feel very welcome. Our reservation was on a Friday evening, the restaurant was busy but not overcrowded. The food was lovely and we will return. Thank you for making our evening an enjoyable one. Note: l always base my reviews on food pricing only.

Great place. Lovely informative and attentive staff. We had lots of starters and a few mains between 3 of us as we wanted to taste a variety of different foods.

We’ve been coming here for years and the food is just next level. If you’re new I’d recommend the House toasted noodles Thai red curry with coconut rice Try branching out to some dumplings!

Good food and service in a comfortable waterside restaurant/bar. Interesting blend of Japanese and Chinese with some crossover. The softshell crab starter was the best we've tasted since Vietnam. Very reasonable prices including the (limited but adequate) wine list. For boaters you can eat within a few paces of your boat, and the moorings are quiet and CCTV covered.

Where do I begin; prices have gone up, service has gone down. Food is dry, nearly made me cry. £68, made me frown. But seriously, it’s nowhere near as good as it used to be. Random staff wearing football jumpers? What’s that all about. Young Asian guy working Thursday eve- rude and obnoxious. Don’t cater to guests needs. Wouldn’t waste your money here.

Been many times, never ever bad. It beats me to how this place even gets 1 star reviews, seriously, how? Prawn toast is very generous, as is the unadon (my favourite grilled eel and rice) and the sushi is unbeatable.

When we first arrived at the basin we were looked at but not acknowledged for about 7/8 minutes, then a young lad came over asked we had a booking sat us down and left us. There were 4 other tables next to us that had menus and we were sat there a good 10 more minutes, still no one came over. We ended up walking out, wont be returning.

Repugnant, disgusting music. Cheap Afro-Latino hip-hop that Spanish speaking children should not be exposed to due to its sexual content. It makes you feel angry. You may get ulcers just by sitting here. Food - just acceptable. Nothing fancy, dull taste. Service was fast. Don’t go there, bad atmosphere.

Staff seemed a bit unorganised, took a long time for drinks to arrive and when the food arrived it was missing a dish, which they had forgotten about. However once we pointed it out they were very apologetic and got it to us quickly. Food was delicious, especially the prawn toast and sushi dishes. Will be going back despite the issues with waiting time!

Food was similar to what you would get from a supermarket, not authentic at all. Felt sick the day after, clearly not made fresh!

The food was great, the waitors were very kind and the portion sizes were quite large however it was a bit pricey.

Really disappointed with this restaurant. Most food was ok but the ramen smelled like the stock had come straight from the canal. Even worse was the service. No welcome, 20 minutes to get our drinks. They don’t seem to have anyone clearing away after people have finished eating. They actually served our main with our starter plates still on the table and only after I had stacked them to make room did anyone think to take them. This is the worst service I have ever experienced. Plenty of staff, but no one interacted with the guests, no asking if everything was ok, no clearing plates when we were finished. Not even anything when we paid the bill. Don’t bother going - the Noodle bar is better in every way.

Service was lacking, had to wait for drinks, no cutlery, plates took a long time to be cleared - however, the people were nice. Food was mixed. The sushi rolls had way too much mayo. The Katsu curry was served with a huge bowl of curry, not needed. The Vietnamese spring rolls has a strange smell and tough texture.

It's an okay place. Been a few times because i love japanese food. The waiters/waitresses are a little slow. A waitress dropped an entire glass of fanta down my friends back... we didn't get anything knocked off the meal or a manager come and apologise. Really good food though.

Absolutely brilliant, the menu was clear and accurate, the food was amazing. The service was excellent the staff friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble. We had a wonderful evening. This was my first visit it will not stay that way for long exceptional 👌 👏 Thank you 😊

We had a very bad service at the Basin today. We were served a dish we did not order. When we checked with the staff, they said we should pay extra for both the dish we didn’t order and the one we initially ordered.

We have been having lunch at at the Basin for special occasions and ad hoc visits for about 10 years. We have not been for about a year due to illness and were very disappointed at our visit. Menu has changed a lot. We had a number of starters all at once but many have disappeared and the ones remaining are so much smaller but much more expensive. Don’t mind paying more if the meal remains the same size and quality as before but that is not the case. Customer service was also lacking, no usual smile on arrival and no one asking if all was ok during our stay. We loved the staff, service and food only a year ago but it is nothing like it was in any of those areas. Don’t cater for students only, cater for your loyal customers who loved it the way it was ☹️

A table of 8 of us dined this evening and long story short the service was terrible. The first drinks order was very slow to arrive, dishes we asked to come out with mains came as starters, some starters were missing and we had to ask where they were. We had to ask if we could order a second drink and then had to ask where the drinks were as it had been at least 15 minutes since the order. We were not asked how our food was. Plates were left on the table after eating for a long time and then we were given the bill and were being rushed to pay as they had another booking (at this point i mentioned that as the service had been so poor and slow we did not appreciate being rushed- in response the waitress then just walked off).Yes the food is good but the service would absolutely put me off going again.

Great food with amazing vibes with friendly staff and tasty cocktails

Absolutely unprofessional, called ahead in advance to RSVP and told over the phone to walk-in. Arrived at the restaurant and got turned away as it was full. Instead of an apology I received a confrontational response trying to explain the matter to me.

The food was really good. Sadly the evening started off terrible when they tried to kick us out, because they didn't understand what a service dog/assistance dog is. I even had to explain that it's discrimination to kick me out, before the waiter talked to the boss about it. After sorting it out, it was a good time.

Great food. Staff was friendly. Overall good experience.

This place has gone completely down hill, ordered to take out last night and food was barely edible, would not recommend eatting here anymore

A good place to catch-up with friends. The atmosphere is a vibe alongside a canal walk. Friendly staff. Gyozas and spring rolls were decent. However, I loved their Prawns Pad Thai.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Basin Restaurant and Bar. It was a wonderful experience.❤️ 🍣 Sushi - The new selection of Dragon Roll sushi is presented in long rows on obsidian-black dishes, intricately decorated. Its ingredients give a mouth watering aroma, leaving a burst of umami with each bite. 🥢 Dim sum - The freshly prepared Cha Siu Chungfun is my go-to choice for its classic chinese flavours with a noodle like texture. I have been told they are soon hiring an experienced dim sum chef to add new dishes to the menu! 😉 🍚 Mains - For the main course, I chose Beef Teriyaki for it's blend of tender beef and teriyaki sauce for deep satisfaction. 🍹 Drinks - The wide selection of drinks at the cocktail bar deserves a special mention. Usually, I would personally just grab a beer along with the meal. 🏵️ Atmosphere - RGB diffused lighting gives the restaurant a lively and nice vibe. Not to mention all the staff are super friendly and easy to talk to. Overall, it was a 5 star level experience for an evening together with friends. Will return again for the fresh new dim sum~ 🔥

Hadn't been for a couple of years. Didn't book, but turned up to find only 2 people in, but it soon filled up. Had chicken gyoza and prawn toast as starters, both were excellent, especially the prawn toast. Main courses were XO Beef and Chicken Teriyaki which were wholesome and tasty. The spiciness of the beef grew as the meal went on. Reasonable value, so would definitely recommend..Service was prompt and efficient. The only negative was a large group of men who came in who were loud and foul mouthed.

I am so late putting this review. It was my boyfriends graduation in December 2023 at Loughborough University and he hadn't been to the Basin in 3 or 4 years. So he was eager to go. We was travelling from London. The food was absolutely amazing, and the best Pad Thai I ever had. The decor was beautiful and didn't feel crowded at all, even though the place was full with people. They definitely had the layout and spacing right. I had asked very last minute if my boyfriend could have a candle on his mango cheesecake (was so mouth watering) and chocolate writing. The lady (I'm so sorry I forgot her name). She made such a effort to get the chocolate writing right, but it didn't turn out the best and she kept apologising, as they didn't have the right chocolate at the time. But what I appreciated the most was the effort she had put and you don't find that with many restaurants. That's what made the night even more special, seeing how much she cared. Thank you so much for making our experience and my boyfriends experience so welcoming, friendly and the delicious food and drink. We hope to visit there again. Would highly recommend The Basin in Loughborough, I only wish London had the same. Thank you again and so sorry for this late review. <3

Food is always good! Helpful staff, Go here, maybe once a month, all menus were available on the table, and I picked a pudding before eating, but sadly, after the food, I could not manage 1 😔 They have a new menu to go with the existing one, only 6 items on it, NEW sushi rolls, YUM! saw that and ordered 1, the Rainbow Roll BEAUTIFUL, 6 large rolls. I also ordered a Negimi Yakitori. Impressed. A lady there Cessilia recommended, very friendly & approachable.

Top to bottom the food was amazing. I mean all the dishes we ordered were amazing not disappointed at all. Loved it. Definitely will go again.

Wow what a great place. Really good quality food, independent and authentic restaurant. The restaurant has nice amount of space and seating. The amount of staff to diners ratio is spot on. The hygiene in the place is top. All the kids and adults had a great pleasure of dinning there. I cannot wait to go back.

Basin is one of the best restaurants in my life

Not as good as it has been on previous visits, sat in the farthest part of the restaurant, which was draughty. Had an 8pm booking for 4 people and they already had no Sesame Prawn Toast that early! Daughter wasn't told or asked if she wanted anything else in place of this so her meal was quite small as she chose from the small eats & Sushi options. Although they close at 10pm we felt we were being watched and rushed to get out from 9:30 onwards, not a good experience at all. Previous visit was also bad, but we decided to give it another try - no more I'm afraid. There is plenty of competition in the town we will trying somewhere new next time.

Probably my favourite place to eat!! The food (no matter what you order) seems to be utterly flavoursome and delicious. The staff were so friendly and helpful - service with a smile every time. I 100% recommend trying the fried custard filled dim sum. I'd never tried them before and they were divine! Looking forward to my next meal here

This has always been a favourite of mine. Wish I could go a lot more often. Food has always been amazing, regardless of what’s been ordered. Staff are brilliant. Always coming over to ask if everything is ok or if you need anything else. Very quick and efficient. Portions are big. I am a big eater and I was only able to get just past half of my meal. Atmosphere is lovely. Nicely decorated and beautiful layout.

Nice food, awful service! Had a 45 minute wait after our starters and still had no Main. No one had taken our starter plates away either. Spoke to a member of staff and they had forgotten about our food. Our food was then bought out 10 minutes later with no apology. Sat with our main plates when we had finished and no one came to clear up again. Looking around people had sat with empty plates too. Staff standing around looking uninterested and chatting to each other in a group. No discount offered as had a 55 minute wait for our main in total, once I talked to someone I had 10% discount! Absolute joke young staff who clearly don’t care ruining a nice place. Tables very very close to one another too!

Wouldn't go there again personally. Service and environment are very nice. Price for food is awfully high for what it's worth. Ho fun was lovely. Seafood masago eas alright (basically an egg fried rice with seafood in it). Seafood was a bit bland, scallops were overcooked and chewy, king prawns lacked a lotta flavour. Duck red curry tasted alright but nothing amazing. This was already like 50 quid worth of food. Portions are decent though. Dim sum is priced alright, but lacked flavour where necessary. They are all homemade I think, har gao had a nice wrapping but the inside prawn filling tasted flavourless. Siu mai was pretty nice but topped with tobiko which had been cooked from steaming? Not sure why this was on siu mai, was also on my seafood fried rice which was a nice addition but shouldn't be overusing that ingredient and cooking it. Siu loong bao was awful, tiny, dry, flavourless, uncooked dough. Bean curd skin roll was half decent. Char siu bao dough was soft, filling didnt taste like char siu and was very little in comparison to the huge bun. All in all amounted to 80 quid. Would much rather spend that money at a Chinese takeaway and that's saying something. Think it's very overrated.

This restaurant always delivers- has a large menu but I've worked my way through most of the items and I'm still yet to have a dish from here which has failed to amaze me. I find the 2x sitting times can be a bit restrictive but doesn't put me off from going.

Been here a few times won't be coming back again I strongly advise others to not eat here, food wasn't bad but there are currently flies everywhere 😅 I used to come when Andy was the manager he was really friendly and had the place running perfectly, this new manager is extremely rude not just to customers but to her staff which I saw where I was sat.... can't run the place at all in my opinion the owner of this place really needs to improve the restaurant and getting a new manager is strongly advisable if you want people to keep coming and eating here.

A great little restaurant service some real nice delicious food. This restaurant provides some excellent customer service, with the team all being very friendly and attentive. The restaurant also has a great atmosphere with some great decor and great vibes. The food here is also amazing and is priced reasonably. Would recommend if you’re visiting Loughborough.

I've always loved the food here, so I'm a little surprised at their recent Food Hygiene rating by the council. Hopefully they get their house in order and continue serving superb tasting Sushi dishes.

Food wasn't bad, waitresses and waiters very helpful and quick to take orders bar lady was brilliant. But was sat near the kitchen and all I heard was abuse from the manager yelling and shouting at her staff which was very disappointing. And in my opinion it was very disgraceful and unprofessional.

Wonderful evening, first time at The Basin & will most certainly be going back. Exquisite food & so much choice on the menu. Didn't feel rushed with a 2 hour dining slot, plenty of time to enjoy ourselves.

Absolutely great,food was fantastic including the gluten free beef ho fun,staff were very friendly and efficient, really enjoyed our visit.

I like the most in Basin is the Hong Kong style food because the taste is the same with the one I eat in Hong Kong.

Service was friendly and attentive - cannot complain. Starters (prawn toast and chicken gyozas) were nice, nothing special, but decent. Mains (beef teriyaki) was a huge let down - very slimy and almost no flavour, not my idea of a teriyaki. Beef was very rubbery as well - just not great quality of food which is a shame for the prices they charge.

Worst place and disgusting food

Overall quite good. It's only NOT 5 stars because I still can't quite work out who it was that was supposed to be serving us. There seemed to be about 12 staff for the 8 tables, and we were asked by 4 different staff what drinks we'd like, only after the 4th had come over did said drinks appear. BUT the food was good, drinks were good, and for the price can't really complain.

Went here for a birthday meal and was very disappointed. The food was delicious however, the service truly let down the whole meal. We asked for the dim sum and small plates to be served at the same time as the larger plates but this did not happen. Those who orders large plates waited 30-40 minutes after the small plates arrived to eat. Additionally it was not clear which dishes placed on the table were vegetarian so one vegetarian guest bit into a pork filled bun. When we raised this the manager said we should have made food preferences clear to the server but we were not asked at any point about allergens or intolerances which most restaurants remind you about now. The way this fault was put on the customer felt unprofessional. For our inconvenience we did get 20% off the bill. However, these faults should not have happened in the first place and will make me think twice before going again. Previously I would not have thought this as I have really enjoyed this restaurant when I visited 8 months prior.
