Manchuhan Oriental Canteen Restaurant in Charnwood

I work here so I'm a little bias. The food is brilliant, fresh, crisp and a lit healthier than expected. Service is pretty darn good but the atmosphere is let down by being within the heart of the Student Union. Eating amongst those studying and meeting up can be a little....unique. But I would eat here everyday if I could. 😁

I don't often write reviews on Google, especially for restaurants and food. But this restaurant... I have to give it five stars. I dare say this is one of the few restaurants in the UK that offers good value for money. Most of his dishes only cost you 12 pounds, but the portions are big enough to fill you up. Especially their "beef brisket" meals, such as potato brisket rice and tomato brisket rice. The meat is the same as your mother's for free. The portion is too big, and the taste is really good. It really makes you feel better. You feel the long-lost warmth in a foreign country. In other restaurants in Loughborough, I would have spent 25-30 pounds to eat a full meal. Here you only need to order one meal...and that's enough...I really recommend this restaurant, both in terms of price and taste.

I visited whilst staying with my girlfriend at her uni accommodation and decided to try here. Needless to say I was not disappointed. We had the Sweet and Sour Chicken and the Katsu. Both were absolutely delicious. Chicken was crispy and tasty. The sauces on both dishes were absolutely spot on too. Portion sizes are great for the price you pay. The only downside personally was that it was located in a student union and not in a restaurant itself. But that is a me issue as I am not used to being in a student union yet. I would highly recommend visiting and I will be returning :)

Overpriced, below-average food. The mapo tofu was terrible

Terrible service. food is overpriced, beef is overcooked and it just taste like salt.

Shared the combo, a buffet style selection that changes regularly which they dish up for you and one of the main dishes Mapo Tofu. Fast service even from the menu, generous portions which makes the higher costs good value.

One aspect that stood out to me was the exceptional quality of the ingredients used at Christos Restaurant. From the freshest seafood to the finest cuts of meat and the vibrant array of vegetables, every component of the dishes was sourced with care. The commitment too using high-quality, seasonal ingredients shone through in the exceptional taste and texture of each bite.

what a surprise ! daughter at uni year 1 and went to see dance show but decided to have something to eat before. wasn't expecting much thinking usual British pretend chinese food bit omg probably the best Chinese food ive eaten in the uk even chinatown ! wife is chinese and been to china many times but was so surprised by how good the food tasted. dumplings amazing, though no vinegar on offer. beef with potato so soft and tasty. chinese students must be so happy to have this restaurant on the campus, cant wait to come back

Same like other customers , food wasn't fresh , cooking oil Wasn't replaced from long time because all fried food had bitter taste , crispy beef was reheated and more dried then crispy...nervous having dinner like that in a Saturday night .

Should not be compared to a regular 'takeaway'. This place is the real deal and a hidden gem in Loughborough. Any negative review is rubbish, best quality Chinese cuisine in Loughborough by a long mile.

A convenient Chinese restaurant in the university. Food tastes okay, the price is good.

The food is mediocre at best, neither me nor my girlfriend finished ours. There are better places to have Chinese

Been here a few times and each time the food has been great. Always ready within 10 mins and a reasonable price. It's authentic Chinese food and is always fresh and boiling hot. Special friend rice is my favourite, tastes just like other traditional restaurants I have been too.

Whilst the food here is nice and I have been visiting as a customer for a number of years and have spent a large amount of money there, to be refused the use of a fork from the restaurant just shows that really they don't value their customers whatsoever and for me was the end of the line with their poor service.You'll pay more than you should for the food, of which the standard can vary, some of the staff are very rude and have directly ignored me when enquiring, not even acknowledged what has been said, averting their gaze in the hope you will go away. If you want good service I would recommend going else where, perhaps the Basin in town, the food is better and the staff are friendly and happy to help, plus you will get more food for your money, In a much nicer environment.It's a shame that what could be a great restaurant is tainted by poor customer service, rude staff and over priced food.

This restaurant was a pleasant surprise during a visit to Loughborough University. For a restaurant found inside a university, it serves great tasting authentic (spicy) Chinese cuisine. We ate rice with fish in chilli oil, which was a fantastic meal served with generous portions. The food offered is reasonable priced, probably to suit a student budget, but the quality of food is well worth the price. No one can tell it is situated in the Union building of a university, except that it has a little canteen feel to it, because it is as good as a top restaurant in a city centre. I would really like to visit this canteen restaurant again, when in Loughborough again.

Unless you can stump up for lunch at Burleign Court, this is much the best place for lunch on Loughborough University's campus. All dishes cost roughly £6-7 and are prepared within 10 mins or so. Best washed down with a sago cream drink, which is delicious and almost a meal in itself. Self-serve water and slightly cheaper prices would make me eat there every day ...

I haven't come across a decent Chinese in Loughborough other than the Manchuhan at the Loughborough University, Students Union. Anybody can visit, you don't have to be a student or professor. My first impression is to see so many oriental origin clientele, especially during lunch time. The prices are good approx £7/dish and two can eat from it. I visit every Wednesday lunch with a friend, we share a dish, and there's loads left over, i.e. large portion and £3.50 each. The fish soup, Kung Po Prawns/Chicken are particularly good as is the Thai green chicken curry. Service is excellent much like a Chinese greasy spoon where they issue a ticket with your number, which you claim when your dish is ready, which usually takes 5-7 mins to prepare. You only have to see the chefs in action on the woks, truly breathtaking.

Good food and quick service, it just was not what i was expecting when I heard Chinese food. A very relaxed atmosphere.
