Stopped off her after our 4 mile walk around Bosham harbour today Wasn’t sure if we were going to eat or just have refreshing drinks Looked @ menu & prices were very reasonable compared to many other pubs around! Decided to give it a try (appt under new management) wouldn’t have known as never been here before! There were quite a few people in pub eating we sat out back in their garden The young landlady was very friendly & we were very pleasantly surprised by the well cooked food & portions sizes for the prices they were charging! Great value food quick service Hopefully will return when in area again

We like to support local pubs, so we went down, late afternoon on 26th for a drink and snack. When we arrived there were several roofers/builders, very boisterous, that's no problem, but then they started stripping off, exposing beer bellies that l found repulsive, one of them was even eating a meal. I'm not a prude, but please out of respect to other customers, who might be eating, cover up. We left after one very quick drink and went to another local pub for a drink and something to eat. I admit The Barleycorn is a difficult pub to run, but get your act together folks, insist on T Shirts etc or you're going to lose a lot of business.

Ok when served, told no food available, 14 of us approx £80-100 for a round, met with daughter 12yr old and friends with younger children with their ponies only 3 mins for a cold drink, to be shut out, children manhandled by landlady, after a friend went back to see what the issue was, horse n traps and travellers are not welcome here, got very abusive and got his dog from behind the bar becoming very aggressive and threatening, many of us are not travellers but to victimise because of culture is appalling!! What an example when the pub has been recently taken over and most of us used to eat and drink in here everyday… will not visit or even entertain again nor give my money to shallow minded people again!!

Went for a Sunday roast and was so disappointed - they had run out of so many things even though they’d only just started serving food The roast was poor, only two potatoes and wasn’t very appealing at all Barely any vegetables and I couldn’t believe they charged £17.00 for something of that low quality Tired looking pub, definitely needs some freshening up in all areas! Just wanted a few drinks. Only stayed for one. Dirty place, dead Xmas tree still dumped outside in the car park, pathetic artificial plants in baskets hanging. Pub does not take cash……. Card only - peculiar this! Went outside as it was nice weather, what a dump. Empty beer bottles on floor, weeds everywhere, a patio that has never been jet washed and tables that need wiping down. A nice black Whicker set of tables and chairs upside down and dirty cushions, mouldy thrown on the floor. Did try and pick them up but was frightened a rat would run out. This outside area described as a secret garden!! Won’t be going back!

Very limited choice for vegetarians, no vegan option . The staff were welcoming and friendly . The food was sub stanstard .Homemade chips , may have been lovely if not so overcooked and soggy .Peas were also overcooked , like bullets . When we came to pay, they do not give you a bill ? Just tell you the price ...We were overcharged by £15 !! My husband sorted this out , and my mum was refunded .No paper receipts? Only email . We will not be visiting here again

Out for a walk today with friends and 5 dogs between us. We stopped here for a quick drink and were really impressed with the welcome from everyone. Plenty of room inside, lovely open fire. We decided we were going to eat while we were here after seeing some of the food. Menu is quite limited, but as the owners have only been here for 3 weeks, this was to be expected. Food was fantastic, and the home made chips were some of the best we'd ever had. Looking forward to the next visit already!

Tried the Sunday roast. The meat and roast potatoes were acceptable, but over cooked. The rest of the meal was frankly sloppy. The general atmosphere left a lot to be desired. The staff, if you could call them that, were disheveled and lacked professionalism and the floors, table tops and just about everything else was filthy.

We live in Fareham and have always travelled because the carvery on Sundays were immense. They now have new owners who seemed lovely but no longer do carvery. We saw the lady from a distance (she was in the kitchen visible from the bar) who used to work there before the new ownership and she was always more on the shop floor and so lovely. The meal was nice but not on the same level as before - the veg choice used to be better and the fact you could choose your meat etc was so much better x still lovely food but not sure we will venture so far xx

He was right well kept beer, lots of choice of all drinks and a better than average pub grub menu. My sea bass on a fondant potato and vegetable base was generous and beautifully cooked as was Reg`s Fish pie. Cooking and prestation very good, Young helpful waiter kept an eye on about 4 socially distanced set of diners. Weil organised, great food my 1664 hit the spot with my Sea Bass about £14 for a main course in a range £11 to £16. Not used to eating out as first outing since October 2020 but very impressed and will visit again. The chef showed that he was master of the menu. Sadly could only manage one course but might manage a dessert next time!

Visited with family for the first time for a birthday celebration meal, we were a table of 5. The building is lovely however the ceilings and doors are quite low and my tall brother had to keep an eye out. Thankfully I'm petite so this wasn't an issue for me. As we had pre booked we were seated quickly and were the only table in the restaurant for a while. Our waitress was very friendly. We all opted for burgers except my mum who had the lamb. We waited around half an hour for our food but when it arrived it was clear that everything is cooked fresh to order. Food was not exactly hot but was served at an acceptable temperatre. The chips were nice. Our waitress did a check back and we were happy as no issues with how the food was cooked. It was only when I started my burger after eating my chips that I realised I was given the wrong burger. I ordered the Texas burger and was given the Swedish burger (I think, the one with pastrami and Swiss cheese). Our waitress was not around and I couldn't find her. As this would have likely been my second choice of meal I decided to just carry on and eat it, as by the time our waitress reappeared everyone was finished and would likely have been waiting a while for a replacement burger as a couple of other tables were seated and waiting for food at this point. We decided not to stay for desserts or coffee. All in all, we said would go back here again for food and drinks but there are other places we would likely consider first.

We booked a table for Sunday cavery lunch but when we turned up they didn't have a table for us in the restaurant. The girl was helpful and said if we waited a few minutes someone was leaving and they would relay the table so we got a drink. Shortly 3 guys (one extremely loud) came in for lunch and sat themselves in the bar. We were taken to our table and the waiter said he would come to take our orders. Eventually he did and we declined the soup but were told he would let us know when the chef was ready for us at the carvery. We waited and meantime, the guys, who had already eaten their soup went up to the carvery before us. So we decided to just drink our drinks and leave rather than wait indefinitely until they were ready!

This was our first visit-only because local radio station were doing a promotion on vouchers for food. Really pretty place with a lovely cosy resturant and outside garden . Good choice of mains including fish and vegeterian choices all reasonably priced. I had the sea bass which was beautifully cooked and presented 2 generous sized fillets with delicious mash and vegetables-just the right size portion to allow room for pudding! For bigger appetites try the burgers ...which are generous in size and fillings, come with a huge pile of chips and salad , and we did struggle to finish... next time we will ask for a smaller portion of chips and no salad...we had the pavlova for dessert which is freshly made to order but well worth the wait and the fruit crumble which was just the right size and not too sweet with just the right amount of tartness to the blackberries. It got busy while we were there and I would only comment that there seemed to only be one front of house staff member, who was rushing around trying to take food orders, serve drinks and generally multi task but she did very well . I would definitely return and would be interested to try out the Sunday roast. Even without the discount this offers good value for money and a lovely place to stop on route on a day out

We went to The Barleycorn for the first time 2 weeks ago as our usual place was being refurbished. The staff were very welcoming and took us through to a vacant table and explained about the carvery and the free complimentary soup and said that they were just topping up the vegetables so it would be a few minutes before we could go up and that they would let us know. They did just that and kept us informed all along, the food choice was great and the carvery was served by the very friendly Chef - Kieran. The veg was all hot as were the plates and as my Mum is not a big eater they even wrapped up the extra meat she could not finish. We went for a midweek meal at The Barleycorn. The lady serving us was lovely. The food was disappointing. Everything was slightly overcooked. The battered calamari was quite greasy and overdone, the pork belly and lamb main was rather overdone and the pie came with some mash and some sort of mashed swede. Having been put off in the past by the rude management, amongst other things, we decided to give the Barleycorn another try, being tempted in by the 2 for 1 fish Friday offer. They have certainly made the place look much nicer inside (& out) and were very welcoming. Sadly there were no other customers whilst we were there. The food was ok but I'm afraid they still need to do better.

Went for a Sunday carvery at short notice, 3 kids, 2 adults. Staff were really friendly and accommodating. Food was very good, with generous portions and the chef was really good and loved talking us through the food. Vegetables and trimmings were all very well cooked, and tasty. The meal was good value, and I've tried quite a few roasts in the area. Will definitely be back.

Tonight was Fish Night. 2 fish main courses for 13.90. Amazing. The fish was cooked to perfection. The whole plate was delightful. It is the difference i guess when a real Chef owns a pub.

An excellent Open Mic evening on the 12th, which showcased a variety of genres, at a venue that deserves better patronage. I for one will be visiting again on April 9th, if not before..

Lovely late afternoon roast, choice between beef, gammon, pork, Turkey. Spoilt for choice, fresh vegetables, crispy roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, and thick gravy, and many sauces to choose from and crackling yummy. Lovely service, friendly polite staff, definitely would recommend!

Hadn't stopped here for a while but was drawn in by the new garden and busy car park - usually a good sign.

This used to be our favourite pub when we lived in Southbourne and we often brought guests for their wonderful Sunday roasts. We visited today not realising there had been a change of ownership. I could not get over how it had deteriorated. In spite of it being a country pub and a freezing day the fire was not lit. We asked if it could be and were told that it was hot enough. While I know some people are sick of Christmas songs by now they would surely be better than having to listen to the radio! All of the decorations were plastic, and the food looked insipid. We decided against eating.

Visited this pub whilst in the area meeting friends. The reception we received when entering was great - very friendly lady behind the bar who appeared to be on her own but coping cheerfully. Took our drinks order and then came and took the food order. Very efficient. Out of the 4 starters 3 were great - the other was OK (camembert) just luke warm. I should have mentioned it but as the other 3 were fine I didn't bother. We all had pies next. One - the chicken and ham was again great - the other 3 unfortunately no0t so good. Beef in ale with onions. The beef was tough - not inedible but not enjoyable either. The portions were huge so we all filled up on the chips and vedge which were lovely. If the beef had been done in a slow cooker - slowly - it would have been great and this would have been a 5* review. We did mention this when leaving but nothing was said. All in all such a shame as with a few small tweaks I would be raving about this place.

This is one of our favourite places for a Sunday lunch, as the carvery is super as is the carvery chef, with lovely touches like leek cheesy mash and a delicious and different homemade stuffing. All the staff are so friendly and always look after you. There is nothing not to like, so can thoroughly recommend!

I’d heard a lot about the Sunday carvery so gave it a whirl at the weekend with a couple of friends. It most certainly did not disappoint. The meat was amazing quality and the veg beautifully presented, varied and delicious. Most importantly the gravy was yummy!

This place is always busy around lunchtime, hardly surprising given the value. Sadly, I have recently found that my clothes have smelt of smoke after I leave, which is unusual these days. I have also found the food to sometimes be undercooked, which can spoil things. Whilst I respect the concept, this place is a victim of it's own success, offering value that is head and shoulders above anywhere else of it's kind.
