Went out with daughter for lunch. Not been since post lockdown. Food was fantastic. Had to wait a bit but was busy and I can see why. Well worth the wait. Burger was very tasty and hot. Will take my husband next time.

Went for family Sunday lunch three had the nearly roast and one had the gammon the food was good but the service was slow so much so we waited 15 minutes for the menu after being asked if we’d like to see the desert menu and then a further 20 minutes for it to come. We would return but just not for Sunday lunch.

Always have good food here. Never had a bad meal. Chaos when events are on the field in front of the building and can be very difficult to park. Cannot fault service especially when busy and all the girls are trying to be ask quick as they can. Mos pizza is great but sometimes when really busy he is clearly overwhelmed and long waits but so worth it.

Went for Sunday lunch - you can’t book if in the garden so turned up early (kitchen opens at 12). Nice garden to sit in and there is a coffee shop and pizzeria separate to the pub food. Went to order a roast beef and stood baffled for some time at the bar staff. Obviously a hierarchy as everything had to go through the boss lady. Went to order and there was much discussion amongst the staff even though I was standing in front of them. Eventually convinced them to take an order only to be told after paying that ‘booked staff get priority’. Think they all need to think about customers a bit more as certainly made to feel like an insignificant blob. Witnessed a full argument between the pizza chef and some customers about which table number was right, again don’t expect to be treated well. Food good in general, roast beef a bit like thick leather but rest ok. Avoid if you are looking for somewhere idyllic in the countryside

Very disappointing. Last here 12 years ago when food was god. Food was not good today, vegetables not fresh (tinned or frozen). Roast chicken was actually a burger sized lump of chicken. Steak and ale pie had very little steak. I could go on.

I cannot rate this quaint country village pub highly enough. The bar and restaurant staff are extremely warm, friendly and welcoming and the food is delicious and reasonably priced. We ate here from Tuesday to Friday during our stay in Tilford and sampled the Lamb Shank, Welsh Chicken, Sausage and Mash, Steak and Ale pie and Steak baguette. All dishes that I would highly recommend, my only regret is that we were not staying longer to sample the rest of the menu. My compliments to the whole staff were given as we left to come home and I just cannot wait to visit again.

We were a group of 21 people, who live locally. We do a big walk each year ending with a pub lunch. The Barley Mow team were kind to fit us in - we pre-ordered our food (no deposit needed) and unfortunately we turned up 20 mins late on the day. Slow walkers! The pub were able to hold our order and immediately sent two enthusiastic young bar tenders over to take our drinks orders. They brought the childrens food out first (we had 21 main courses, incl 2 Gluten Free, and 1 nut allergy). All the food was piping hot and delicious, with generous portions all round. Highlights were the baked camembert, the seafood linguini and the sausage and mash. All the staff were friendly, polite, quick to help us. A thoroughly brilliant experience and we will be back.

Called here a couple of months ago when there was cricket on the green. Great atmosphhere but so well patronised that we had to leave without taking lunch. We remedied this on Thursday on a less han perfect day (but you have to accept the weather) and found that this old pub has reorganised its menu and the chef has been a bit imaginative in his offerings (at lunch time anyway.) Food was excellent and service was friendly and efficient. I will certainly return before the cricket season gets going again.

I went for lunch today and was told that no orders were not being taken for 15minutes. As the kitchen was busy. On returning to the bar after 15 mins to place an order to be told that there would be another 25 mins to wait. The way that this was spoken to me was very rude and unacceptable. This was challenged kindly ,I felt that I was being called a lair. My friend and I went elsewhere, this was disappointing as I had heard the food and service was very good.

I visit the Barley Mow pretty well once a month it's a lovely old pub in a wonderful setting. Sunday lunch is excellent. There is a new addition which is a cafe in the grounds which is nicely presented. My only disappointment with the pub is the state of the beer garden. Frim my experience the garden always looks a real mess. The grass is rarely cut, and never around furniture snd there is constantly dilapidated furniture and broken equipment stored beside falling apart fencing. Recently there has been old kitchen tables and tattle old furniture set up as a promotional outside bar, it looks shocking. Come on Barley Mow your garden is really letting you down, you can do better with a little effort . I'm sure if you renovated your garden it would reap solid financial rewards.

Typical old world local pub, we stopped off here after a long day I don't drink so I had a coke but lots of beer on top that I could see, boys behind bar were chatty and good polite service can't complain Reason for not giving 5 stars is because they had not food to serve which is odd of a pub and we would have spent a lot of money tonight But sat in beer garden thar was well kept and tidy with no rubbish my dog sat with my wife and watched the world go by in this very sleepy pub setting. I will be back at some point and taste the food and leave another review👍

Popped in to The Barley Mow yesterday after a morning walk, for a bit of Sunday lunch. To be honest, all three of us fancied the Sunday roast, so that's what we all had. Two chicken dinners and one beef. All portions were the perfect size to leave us full when we left. The beef looked perfectly cooked and our chicken was a really good portion. Nice yorkies, plenty of veg and also the now traditional cauliflower cheese. Everything was perfect and well looked after by the very friendly staff. Would fully recommend

Two of us went for a Tuesday lunch in August. The pub itself is shut but they have an outside bar under cover and seating in a open-sided marquee. We both chose the pizza alternative cooked by an Italian chef in a proper pizza oven. They were excellent. The desserts were equally good. The bottle of Malbec was obscenely expensive for a non-vintage mass produced wine. But, hey, the overall experience was pleasurable and the food was good. The staff we met were charming. A Friday lunchtime visit for a Mowers Lunch, which was excellent & fairly priced. Nice to return here amongst these difficult times but a shame that the older lady with glasses serving was seemingly ruining everybody’s day through a complete inability to offer appropriate hospitality skills. I know a lot of customers here can be very well to do, (not us), but a bit lacking in common sense, but they don’t need to be talked to one after the other in such an irritated way. And if people aren’t getting your Covid instructions as they arrive maybe you need a greeter to explain how it works rather than a plethora of failed to be read signs. The younger lady serving was wonderfully helpful & when another customer asked for Elder Cordial & the lady with glasses said they didn’t have any; I think everyone waiting took great pleasure in the younger girl saying there was some in the main building & the look of resentment the older lady with glasses had on her face as she then had to go out of her way to walk over to the main building & back. Yes, customers are a pain & these are difficult times but manners cost nothing & bad manners lose customers. Venue & food, plus the younger staff wonderful as ever though.

We were looking for a pub close to the Hogsback Brewery as the boys were having a tour. Having done a google search for pubs in the surrounding area, we thought the menu looked good, so booked a table at the Barley Mow. We don't know the area well so were reliant upon the SatNav to take us there. SatNav told us we were 250 yards away but we were sadly the wrong the side of the river and the Tilford East bridge was closed! It was our own fault as had seen on the pubs web-site that it was closed, so be sure to check! After a little detour we found ourselves at the pub and ready for our lunch. We arrived at 1.30 ish and it was surprisingly busy for a Saturday lunch and were glad that we had booked. We ordered 2 chicken burgers, a beef burger, a plant burger and sausages and mash. All beautifully cooked with good quality ingredients and very well presented. We were all full after our main course but were offered a half price dessert so we chose the vanilla cheesecake with Biscoff sauce which was light and creamy and utterly delicious. There were quite a few young members of staff whom we were told were new and in training. The service was friendly, attentive and the pub was spotlessly clean. Overall we had a really great visit, cannot fault anything, we would definitely return. Keep up the good work!

You do need to book if you want a place at the dining area---which is how it should be, and a credit to the food and the team who produce it. The only snag is the work being undertaken on the adjacent bridge over the river---the contractors and Council seem determined to protract it!!!---suggest ring the pub first who are VERY helpful in telling you whether that access route is open

We hoped it wasn’t a one-off, so returned again for lunch between Christmas and New Year. The place was very busy with drinkers and diners. We managed to get a table for five of us. Excellent service, great food including vegan dishes which went down a treat. My first review of the Barley Mow was entitled ‘fingers crossed’ - it looks like it has worked! The menu is wide ranging - you can find starters, mains, desserts plus baguettes so it caters for everyone whatever your appetite is. It majors on British fare. Great chips! Generous portions too, so you won’t leave hungry. You can eat in the bar area or in the slightly quieter dining area at the back.

My son and I decided to pop in for a lunchtime drink after a long walk along Hankley common. It was very busy but the staff were very friendly, particularly Chantelle who went out of her way to help us after we decided to get a bite to eat. She was so friendly and helpful and as the pub had received an award for best Surrey pub 2018 we thought we'd try out the burgers. They were very tasty and the chips were crisp and fresh. Would definitely recommend this charming pub for the quality of food, atmosphere when they were very busy. Chantelle -you were lovely! We will be back

We initially booked a table of eight for a Ramblers Walk. We had already increased the booking to twelve, but on the day needed to feed sixteen! The Barley Mow were fantastic. They had reserved tables, were fast to take the orders, the food came out quickly and was delicious. This pub has a great atmosphere and is Dog and Rambler friendly. Many thanks to the Manageress and the Kitchen for making our day that extra bit special.

Popped in a few weeks ago for a quick drink and was pleasantly surprised at how quaint and lovely this little pub was. Visiting friends for a weekend and we spent a few evenings here, friendly staff and good food ! Slightly pricey on the drinks but worth it for location and atmosphere. The perfect rural experience!

We were new to the area and had some time to kill waiting for a friend. We popped in for a drink but took a look at the menu. As there were some interesting veggie options we ordered the tortilla with avocado and a veggie burger. So good we followed with chocolate mousse and panna cotta. Both delicious. Service was very friendly and warm. A lively atmosphere with lots of people simply enjoying a drink at the end of a busy week.

What a fabulous pub in a picturesque setting. The pub were catering for about 70 people having a barbeque and it was fantastic. The choice was amazing, the food did not run out, there was plenty of choice for vegetarians and the staff were so friendly. We even had live music playing in the background.

Wow - we ordered the fish sharing platter here and it’s fabulous. With a nice outside area, friendly staff and good beers what more could you want for a pub?

The pub was almost empty on a warm Wednesday evening. We ordered at 6pm - the fish sharing platter and a portion of French fries......and we asked for some olives to eat with our drinks while waiting for the food to arrive. “Yes, I’ll bring those over straight away” said the young barman.

Another dog friendly pub we found in the Farnham area was The Barley Mow on Tilford Green. However, we discovered it to be relatively expensive. Our aging black Labrador Bella was welcome here, but there were no bar treats for her, and a mutt who came in tried to pick a fight with her. So, not that happy, but The Barley Mow is wonderfully situated on Tilford Green. So both pluses and minuses.

Visited with family after a long walk. Great looking pub but we arrived with only 5 minutes left to order food (Sunday 3.55 - thought this a little early to stop serving food especially as there were lots of people watching a cricket match). We ordered dishes to share - olives, bread and chips. Chips were really good and olives so round and juicy that we decided it would be good to return for a proper meal. Drinks were very expensive but they do have a captive audience being the only pub (that we could find anyway).Great gardens for families.

We visited this pub for lunch last week and the main problem was the attitude of the waitress. There was one very pleasant waitress and one who could barely drag herself away from chatting with her friends around the bar. It was quite clear we were an irritation and were getting in the way of her social life - this lady knows who she is. We all ordered the duck and waited over half an hour for it to arrive, even though at the time there was only one other table in the restaurant occupied. We then ordered dessert and coffee and although it was only ice cream this took an extremely long time to arrive, whilst all the time our dirty plates from our main course were sitting on the table waiting to be cleared and we eventually had to ask this waitress if she wouldn't mind taking the plates away! At this point we decided that we would actually rather just leave and very politely asked for the bill, only to be greeted with "oh, ok then". Customer service and a warm welcome simply did not exist. Shame because the barley mow is in a beautiful setting in a pretty village but goodness me they need to address this issue!

Ordered online for 20 minute collection but ended up waiting an hour and 15 minutes, despite consistently asking for updates (and consistently being told "just a few more minutes"). When I finally did get the food home, it was excessively greasy and definitely not worth the wait.

My rump steak roast dinner was cooked to perfection, very efficient service! The menu is so vast, will have to come back to try it all.

First visit here for lunch whilst en route to Winkworth Arboretum. Left with very mixed feelings. It's in a nice location with attractive interior decor but... Completely agree with other reviews regarding staff. The girl on the till came to take our order about 3 seconds after we'd sat down; she didn't seem to have a clue how to use the tablet for orders and spent most of her time standing around doing nothing whilst the guy in the kitchen did all the work. As a result we ended up having to wait ages for our food. We ordered quiche + 2 salads and sausage roll + 2 salads. The food was ok but charging £12 for that is outrageous! And to make matters worse, they allow dogs inside and my lunch was ruined by 3 tiny, stinky dogs arriving at the table behind me. In my view, dogs should not be allowed inside where people are eating - it is so unhygienic. Leave them outside! There are better, cheaper cafes around so I suggest you seek them out.

We’ve had brunch here on a number of occasions and find that the service / standard of food you get really does swing between very good and quite poor, depending on just who is staffing the venue that day. Our most recent visit was further proof of this when we arrived through the car park entrance at the back for our pre-booked table. A friend tried to join us from the street entrance and found the front door locked, despite it being 10.30 in the morning. My wife’s ordered eggs florentine which was inedible. The spinach was so wet it turned the muffin into a sponge, leaving the plate waterlogged. Interesting to note that a lot of the prices seem to have recently increased too. A shame.
