Well where do I start. Sadly I have nothing good to say about the service or food. The young waiter didn’t know what the Sunday roast meat was saying he had only just started his shift. We then chose our roasts, myself beef, my mother and daughter pork, it turned up on cold plates with luke warm food. The Brussels sprouts were over cooked, the leeks ( with no sauce) were not cooked enough. Never have I had cabbage with mint sauce in, it was awful. The roast potatoes looked and tasted like they had been reheated. The beef was chewy and the pork was dry. I asked for horseradish sauce to be told they didn’t have any. This sums up to me how inadequate this place is. It’s not good enough. To end on a slightly positive note the carrot, cauliflower and Yorkshires were ok. They did apologised and didn’t charge us for a coffee and a dessert but would have preferred a decent meal and service.

A very disappointing "roast pork" Sunday lunch. Precooked sliced pork, very undercooked vegetables, roast potatoes were almost white and not in the least crispy and when asked whether it came with crackling, we were told not... whoever heard of a roast pork lunch without crackling. My friend and I ate half our lunches as didn't feel it was worth asking to change food... we could tell it wouldn't get any better than what we were served. Add insult to injury, after advising our waiter the food was terrible, we were charged a discretinery 10% Service charge, which was laughable as I had to go to the bar area to ask the waitress for a dessert menu, whilst she and her 2 colleagues just milled around chatting. The Manger was rude when questioned why he wasn't fazed by our complaint of the awful roast lunch, he just said "you ate half of it"!! First and last time we will eat there.

Our first visit as fairly new to the area. Very welcoming, friendly, helpful staff. Enjoyed looking at the cars as it was a Motor fest event. Food was lovely, my husband had the pie of the day and I enjoyed roast beef. Will definitely be returning. Great country location near the Basingstoke canal.

Father’s Day Sunday lunch with the family. Nice country pub with friendly service, However the Sunday roast was very poor . Very small portions with one carrot, courgette and a minuscule floret of cauliflower cheese. What a shame on such a special day. Very overpriced for what I would say was more like a child’s portion.

A lovely family meal today during the late May bank holiday. Everything was just perfect….great drink selection (rare ciders too), friendly service and excellent food. Dog friendly and a menu for the furry friends too. We visited last year and had a nice meal then too. We had the Sunday roast (beef), homemade pie and the rack of ribs and a sharing Camembert to start (really good!( No room for a desert on this occasion. Very happy to recommend!…would definitely come back for more!

The BLT £10.50 which is expensive It only had 2 thin pieces of bacon and the chips were a very small portion of oven fries. My son's chicken burger was on the small side for £14 but at least his chips were a decent portion. The staff were friendly and helpful which was good as a compulsary tip is added but the food is not value for money .

Another visit to The Barley Mow and as always greeted by proprietors Caroline and Steve upon enterance, bar staff very polite as always. The ale sampled was London Pride, absolutely first class in taste and crystal clear. Locals always friendly and nice to see old skool darts still being played by regulars. So nice to visit a real pub with good beer, nice ambience. Dog friendly too. Long may Caroline and Steve continue to sail this ship. We remember this place as an everyday pub and had changed hands a few times. We popped in for a drink and light lunch only to find it was now a Greek restaurant. Its not formal and you can eat in the restaurant or bar area. They even have nice heated booths outside with lovely garden laid to flower beds. The menu has lots of choice, but has a Greek or continental twist. I had the beef bourguignon and my partner had a greek tiger prawn saginaki which were both awesome. Waiters were attentive and even closed a door that might cause a draught, without us mentioning anything. Lunchtimes used to be very quiet in here but now its got a nice flow of customers and some atmosphere. Priced very reasonable for quality and quantity. We will definitely return.

When we visited we chose to eat outside - we read the signs and one us went in the main entrance to ask for drinks. She was told she must go back outside and text to order. So she came back out, told me, so we looked around for the menu from which to order - nothing. There was a blackboard listing some beers, but beyond that nothing. Seated at the table there is a piece of paper telling you to use whatsapp, and if you don't have that then you can text the bar staff, but your order may be delayed. With no menus outside, there was no way to know what wine we could order, or how much it would cost! So I went back inside to ask - walked around the bar for several minutes before finding a server who immediately told me no bar service, you have to go and text. So I asked her how we could order when there was no drinks menu? She said "your friend should have asked for one when she came in". Literally astounded by that response - so unwelcoming, so un-customer friendly. We are all trying to follow any rules that are in place, but when a pub makes it virtually impossible to do so, why would we stay there? I elected at that point to just leave and go somewhere else, and I pointed out to her that wearing her mask below her nose was a complete waste of time. In the current climate there are far more welcoming pubs with clear and correct Covid precautions - we instead ate at the Waterwitch further down the canal, which was lovely and easy to navigate as a customer.

The food and service was acceptable except in one case they got the food order wrong and were unwilling to accept it was their mistake! It was a pity as up to that point it had all gone quite well. In my view the pub is fine when dealing with small numbers but they seem to struggle when a lot of people arrive together. The appetizing menu had plenty of choice, many ingredients are from local suppliers, and I particularly enjoyed their popular 3 sausages with mash, peas and gravy, followed by an indulgent Eaton mess. There is nothing pretentious about this place, but it enjoys a comfortable relaxed atmosphere to meet, drink and eat. We came away very satisfied.

Lovely food pub but with good range of beers and ciders.I had Old Rosie cloudy cider a personal favourite. The sausage menu was fantastic, sat and sausage is not to be messed with, really very hot!!Only bad point was that the mash potato was clearly processed not fresh, other than that would highly recommend!! Great pub

This is a lovely local pub serving a great range of well kept beers and ciders. There is a good wine list to accompany a varied Pub menu, great Specials Menu and some lovely local sausages.Sunday lunches are good quality and well priced and you can book the whole pub for functions. There is a good garden and the adjoining cricket field is all good for Bar b's and bigger functions.Check out the forthcoming events.Staff are great and it is across the road from the Basingstoke Canal car park and on the intersection of several footpaths.

We booked for 75 people including kids. The owners set aside the conservatory and garden for us and made us feel so welcome. The food was all home made and delicious. The garden furniture is a bit past it's sell by date, but that was a small comment in a wonderful event.

This pub reopened about 8 years ago; it is hidden in a countryside location but easy to get to! Accessible by car, horse or walking along the tow path to the Barley Mow Bridge! Dinner time gives you a more Posh Pub feel but the staff are very friendly and attentive!

Excellent place to park if you want to access the Basingstoke canal. The pub is yet just another one ruined by having turn into gastro style over priced eating place. Outside seating is more or less on the edge of road overlooking car park. We paid nearly £8 for 1 pint, half shandy and 2 bags of crisps. Will not be using it again.

A new year walk along the Basingstoke Canal made the Barley Mow a convenient and agreeable place to stop and have lunch. A bit scruffy having traipsed through the mud on the tow path but welcome nevertheless.Good beer, a welcome open fire and a choice of menu options. I choose the beef curry (special of the day) and wasn't disappointed as it was of great flavour and just the right heat whilst my partner had the scampi and chips which she just managed to finish.Despite being busy service was quick and efficient and the quality of food excellent. When on the canal or just passing through by car give it a go.

Wow, the pub is under new ownership and has had a wonderful makeover. Loads of atmosphere, friendly, well trained staff, and the food is now absolutely first class. A gorgeous little gastropub worth visiting.

Dropped in over the weekend when I was out for a walk as I’ve been meaning to try this place for a while. I’ll be honest, I’m shocked this place has a 5 star hygiene rating. My mug was stained, my cutlery hadn’t been washed properly and the place in general wasn’t very clean. I used to work in a cafe so I know what I’m looking for in an establishment in terms of hygiene and food quality. The food itself was average at best, low quality product, warm not hot when it came out and the eggs were undercooked. Coffee again was average, not a lot to say about it. The icing on the cake though that was the reason for this review I normally wouldn’t go out my way for. When entering the bathroom I saw what I assume is the manager, as he was busying himself in and around the staff and kitchen, not wash his hands when leaving then went right back to handing out one family’s food. Disgusting! Wouldn’t recommend
