The Banyan Tree in Peterborough

We have been to this restaurant recently and it is fantastic. The staffs are welcoming and explain any questions. If you ever want to try the authentic taste of Indian dishes I would recommend this restaurant. There are a lot of restaurants who name the restaurants as Indian restaurant who indeed are either pakistani or bangladeshi restaurants, but 'The Banyan Tree' is authentic not just by ambiance, but also with the taste of food. We tries a Prawn dish, chicken starters and naan bread, they were finger licking good. My wife tries the vegie dishes and they were mouth watering.

What a truly lovely eatery! Staff go above and beyond to cater for their diners. The food is flavour some and delicious. Would thoroughly recommend The Banyan Tree, especially the Lunch menu which I think is 12 pound a head now. Great find for a tasty Curry and awesome decor. A1+ Service with a smile!

Bombay potatoes were tinned new potatoes in sauce..... pilau rice was more like brown instead and the korma was unbelievably low quality wouldn't waste my time or taste buds

Went the other week with a friend for some food, we were the only people there which can’t be helped but the staff were attentive and the food was lovely would go again definitely

This is my go-to restaurant for Peterborough whenever I’m in the area for dinner. The food, customer service, and atmosphere have been great each time I’ve been. Great prices for the quantity of food. Overall recommend

Nice food, terrible atmosphere. Eeeily silent and actually felt uncomfortable having a conversation at times. The food was nice but we were the only diners in the restaurant for our entire visit which did not make for a very comfortable dining experience. I was also given a dirty side plate.

We had an outstanding experience dining here! The staff were incredibly personable and made our experience so easy. It was my partners birthday meal, which I mentioned when booking, and we were welcomed to our table filled with roses and hearts. The food was incredible and reasonably priced (big portions too!). We highly recommend and will be back!

We stopped off in Peterborough and decided to try this restaurant, we were not disappointed. I eat at a LOT of Indian restaurants and have to say the food was absolutely superb. This was also the view of my five friends. The flavours were wonderful and the service was excellent, really friendly. Looking forward to going back.

We really enjoyed our night out at The Banyan Tree in Peterborough. The service was excellent and our waiter was very helpful describing the items on the menu as they were very different to what we're used to in the North West of the UK. The quality and choice of food was excellent. We'll certainly be going back next time we're in Peterborough.

Nice quiet place on a weekday. We had ordered mixed plater sizzler which was decent onion pakora was Okish could have been more cooked. Chicken and lamb was fine. Butter naans were really good. Chicken Kura was spicy but good. It had green and red chili and was very nice. Unless you don't eat Indian level spicy wouldn't recommend kura.

First time visitor to city , and been a Bradford boy originally was looking for a good Indian meal and really wasn't disappointed, whole experience was excellent. Well done to all staff and I highly recommend anyone visiting to try

Always visit the Banyan when I’m on business in Peterborough… never fails to impress. The owner couldn’t be more attentive and helps guide you through the extensive menu. And the food is some of the best Indian out there (and I’ve travelled a lot)

We only spent one day in Peterborough, so we were very lucky to find this restaurant. The food was outstanding, and the service was both efficient and friendly. If we revisit Peterborough, we will definitely go back here.

Really enjoyed my visit, very welcoming and friendly with a good balance of service and just leaving you to enjoy your meal. (Which I liked) the staff were helpful when asking about the menu and especially when asking about the levels of spice and heat. The meal was extremely good and I can only recommend and compliment the restaurant on their food and the quality of ingredients We had a great time and nothing was too much trouble, we found it was reasonably priced for the quality and standard of service and the food presented Will most definitely be back again and recommend the Banyan Tree to anyone , thank you again and see you soon

My recent visit to The Banyan Tree left me with mixed feelings. While there were a few positives, the overall experience was far from satisfactory. Firstly, the food was tasty, but I couldn't help but feel that it was slightly overpriced for what was offered. The menu had promise, but the cost didn't quite match the quality. The decor and ambiance were rather average, lacking that special something to set it apart from other dining establishments. Service was just okay – nothing particularly outstanding, but not terrible either. The staff did their job, but there was a lack of that extra effort to make the experience memorable. However, the most concerning aspect of our visit was that three out of four of us fell ill the next day. This was extremely disappointing and raised serious questions about the restaurant's food safety and hygiene practices. Food poisoning is something no one should experience when dining out. Unfortunately, due to this negative experience, we won't be returning to this restaurant. We expected more for the price we paid and cannot overlook the health issues we encountered. It's essential for the restaurant to prioritize the well-being of its patrons and revisit its pricing and overall dining experience. In conclusion, our visit to The Banyan Tree was marred by a combination of factors, making it impossible to recommend. We hope that they take our feedback seriously and work towards improving their overall offering.

Lovely people and the most flavoursome curry you'll ever taste. I've eaten at many indian restaurants over the years, but this place is very different. Curry's that you can actually taste all the spices rather than a hot sauce. If you're in Peterborough, pay this place a visit. You won't be disappointed.

Lovely menu choice and well presented food but let down by amount of salt in every dish. Service to begin with was ok but non existent by end. No one around to order more drinks except a man in the corner on his laptop. We were seated around a corner with another group and due to high ceiling the noise level was unbearable. It dosent look like the photos on trip advisor, more like a school dinning room. I’m not usually too critical but it really was not a good experience and there is such better hospitality offered in Peterborough restaurants.

On arrival shown to a table. Asked for alcohol free beer and the waiter began a big sell on alcohol free wines and spirits.. all very popular now you should try them. NO we wanted Alcohol free beer, finally settled for a Peroni zero. Pickle tray only has three small pots on it to go with the poppadoms. No onion and cucumber. Our curries were OK, nice tender lamb, chicken dishes were OK but not wholly as described on the menu for flavour. Naan's are quite small. No after dinner mint with the bill. Clearly trying to reduce costs and maintain a profit. But it does not leave you feeling you've had a good value dinner experience for the menu prices... Will not be rushing back. There are plenty of alternative Indian restaurants in town to enjoy.

The food here is just wonderful. Really deep flavours, with lovely quality ingredients. I couldn’t eat it all so took some home and the next day the leftovers were even better. Can’t wait to go back.

I've been eating at The Banyan Tree since 2018 both as a dine-in and takeaway customer. This place has some of the best Indian food you'd ever find. Some dishes like Mysore Chilli Chicken, Lacha Paratha and Paneer Reshmi cannot be found at most other restaurants and these guys execute the recipes beautifully. Their Mixed Grill is also one of the best I have had. Highly recommended place to go to surprise someone or even to eat by yourself. They consistently improve their recipes and maintain excellent customer service. Love it.

Good food served with a smile. The owner was friendly too, came over and had a chat with us. I run a business as well and can appreciate these little friendly gestures.

Not the same as your usual expectation of an Indian reatraunt, I.e. like for like. This is well balanced, although the menu is not as extensive as some, the dishes are varied and a welcome tweak on some of the classics. Good quality, reasonable price.

Could not decide what to do for lunch that was different - no excuse or ocassion so went to The Banyan Tree. What an experience of wonderful hospitality and food that made today very special and it didn't hurt the pocket. Excellent starters and main courses - all with different explosion of flavours in the mouth. Thoroughly enjoyed our time with hosting going the extra mile to make sure we were all enjoying the experience and the delightful food. Many thanks for a wonderful experience to The Banyan Tree.

Incredibly nice, polite and helpful staff. The tasting is very delicious, the appetizer is filling and a large portion. The staff helped us choose the main course and we took it with pleasure. The place is cozy, clean and friendly. They were happy to answer any questions we had and help us. I recommend everyone to give it a try, you won't be disappointed. We are sure to come again.

We booked a lunch prior going to a matinee show. The entrance is very tatty and in need of brightening up. I would not have entered it as chance customer! Inside on the ground floor it’s acceptable and clean and pleasant but lack any really...

A lovely place to grab Sunday lunch! Food seemed like small portions but was very filling and delicious 🔥 The service was very fast and the staff were very friendly. Definitely recommend the chettinand chicken (extra spice can be requested for the spice lovers) with rice or butter naan. Thaalis have been discontinued 🥺 But still, definitely will come again❤️

We had an absolutely delicious dinner here. The service was welcoming and exceptional. Popadum followed by a perfectly spiced chicken dish accompanied by aubergine bharta and the best tarka Dahl ever. This must not miss restaurant is the best in Peterborough!

We celebrated my grandson birthday party in Banyan tree. Chicken tikka and Sheekh kebab tasted great. Lamb was well cooked. Biriyani would have been made better. But overall it was a great experience. I recommend Banyan tree for good Indian food.

Very warm pleasant atmosphere with excellent hosting skills. Really enjoyed our vegetarian lunch - each dish had a unique taste of its own. Stand alone presentation of each dish was exceptional and would highly recommend. Definitely dining here again and again. Visited for a family meal, we didn’t book however they accommodated us, The staff are welcoming & the owner was a fantastic host & stopped by for a chat. we ordered the mains which was amazing, baigan bortha, a traditional indian eggplant which was fusioned...

I have been eating at the Banyan Tree for over 10 years, and the quality is still exceptional, as witnessed during my last visit. Try not to choose the dishes that sound familiar, but ask them for suggestions and you will be very pleasantly surprised....

First time at the restaurant the service and food was excellent.

Went for the lunch menu on Saturday afternoon. Restaurant was very quiet at that time so service was very good. Food was very tasty if obviously a cheap lunch offering, would like to have seen a bit more meat in the dishes. Drinks were expensive also, Overall a good experience will try again for an evening meal.

I dined at the Banyan Tree yesterday with my friend's it was eqsquite food . You eat with your eyes originally as we say in catering and this did not fail to impress. It was both beautiful aesthetically , flavour and in its presentation. The waiters and management gave us a south Indian culnery tour in sommelier style , presenting each course and explaining its ingredients in fine detail. Compliments to your chef and staff Banyan Tree you are a credit to our industry and we are lucky to have establishments like yours. You made us feel welcome and special throughout. Where to start Me and my friend went to this restaurant They came to our table half an hour after we sat Then took order which wasn’t deliver even on time We was there for over an hour yet they couldn’t deliver the food. Such a waste of night Reply for the owner: Check your booking info we booked that night before we came in and they confirmed in the reception. I don’t know if you even know the whole situations and talking nonsense.we ordered the food and your staff said it will be here 10min after that it took 45 min . We were there while 1:30 hour after order the food. If you’re the owner the guy with the tablet then you really do not have any idea what’s going on in your restaurant giving the impression of it Me and my friends never said anything to your staff you’re making up about being rude to your staff. Ask your staff the lady she even apologised that it taking too long but we were hungry and didn’t even know when food coming. None of us were rude to your staff and for your kind info other people ordered after us got their food before us. Please sort your priority. This happened to us when we booked the table. If we didn’t book the table we wouldn’t have been even come in

I had an hour or so to spare for a quick lunch in downtown Peterborough. Banyan Tree up a short flight of steps at one end of Westgate Street offered a £10 set lunch with quite a bit of choice in its series of rooms...

Pls don’t ever order from this hotel If you think you will get right quantity food then definitely not.. We ordered food for elderly person but the food just like a cup noodles worth for 5 pounds I paid 10 pound but got only cup size rice Waste Don’t order

Budget friendly Indian restaurant, love the variety of dishes they have. The staff is very friendly and the ambiance is lovely. Along with 90s Bollywood music in the background it gets the feeling of being in India.

Excellent restaurant. Staff were attentive and the food was very, very good. Good value. We had starters, mains and sides and a drink each for £50. Will definitely be coming back.

What's not to like... The cocktail menus are a thing of beauty all on their own, let alone the scrummy booze they promise. We went for all the starters, neither of us being massively hungry. We were utterly defeated, and delighted. The Indian dim sum were a turnup for the books, and SUPER HOT - caveat emptor

We had the taster menu after just pitching up on a busy Saturday night, they accommodated us, it was 6 or 7 courses, it took over 3 hours and it was absolutely spot-on! Thank you 🙏

Visited this place last night with my wife and sister as we all love indian food. Ordered few classic starters as well as the main lamb and chicken dishes but the nicest thing was to get chana masala that was not in the main menu. The food was served quickly, was delicious and the service was great! All at very reasonable price. Will come again and highly recommend this place. Thanks!
