Backyard restaurant, the waitress didn't have the appropriate clothing for the prices asked. Menus are ordered in courses, so don't order the main menu, you won't get full. So in summary, a wannabe 4☆ restaurant.

Penzance offers little choice on Mondays, even in August. The papardelle was overcooked, if a tasty dish around it, but the portion size was 'starter' size. They tried to sell me 'sides', a first warning about this place. When I paid cash to allow a round £10 note change, the waitress asked if I really wanted any change! I raised this with the owner, who had the gall to say we always "offer", in case customers don't want it all. This is more of a mugging than an offer, and I certainly will not be returning.

Found this restaurant by accident, and it was the best ever. My husband took me out for my Birthday, and by chance we found this wonderful place. I really recommend everyone to try this restaurant. My husband had the sirloin steak, and he said it was the best steak he had ever had. And as myself being a ex chef, and both being foodies, he would not say that lightly, and the hake ,and the dessert I had was fantastic.

Positives: food is good. Negatives: it’s overpriced. And the service really isn’t great - 3 staff and one card machine covering two floors? C’mon guys. You need a runner and someone doing bar/drinks orders. If the service had been good we’d have felt happier with the eye-watering prices. As it was, it wasn’t a great experience and we wouldn’t recommend.

Just let down a bit by floor staff. Decent quality food with slightly above average price, (no complaints) but staff were questionable - minor, fixable gripes: Young female waiter wearing socks and sliders? Could have been a forgotten uniform but just looked unprofessional in situ. Saw another female waiter marrying two bottles of rosé wine before taking a new ‘full’ bottle of wine to a customer. Don’t think it’s illegal in the Uk to do this but unhygienic and poor form. They took it to an upstairs table after doing in on the ground floor so diners obviously non the wiser. Young male staff member checked in on us 6 times (counted 😅) over two courses, not including ordering or bringing food (how are the drinks x1, how is the food etc x2 per course)- to the point it was disruptive/ annoying. I get they’re told to be attentive, but just chill buddy

Celebrated my birthday here with friends and family. Bakehouse has a vegan friendly menu and can accommodate someone with celiac disease. We preordered some starters and vegan dishes. The rest just ordered from the menu when we sat down. A bit of confusion when we first got started with what was ordered and which dishes are gluten free. Ended up with a good dinner. Kim, the owner, managed to get us a delicious vegan gluten free cake. Had an enjoyable evening.

A real gem of a place, I feel so lucky we were able to spend our last night in Cornwall at the bakehouse after cycling in the rain all day. The food was excellent: we had the crab risotto, beetroot risotto, the pan-fried hake, and, for dessert, strawberry cheesecake and outstanding homemade coconut sorbet. Would all highly recommend! (The dinner menu also comes with a serving of tasty bread and butter, so rare in the UK!) The service was fast and extremely friendly, the team and restaurant manager made my (otherwise pretty bleak) day — I look forward to dropping by the bakehouse again next year (and the year after that etc…)!

My husband had the rib eye steak which tasted incredible and my daughter had the calamari to start followed by shell on prawns (an adjustment they made for her) as she doesn’t like batter or breadcrumbs, which she thoroughly enjoyed finished off with their home made vanilla ice cream for pudding, this was exceptional……so good in fact that we ordered a bowl for us. Booked a few weeks before arriving for a week in Penzance. The welcome on arrival was warm and friendly, our table was on the ground floor and lacked anything memorable with no view - internal or external, bit close to the kitchen door for my liking and ultimately a bit disappointing as could have been any room in any restaurant in the country. The set price menu was an excellent idea, the options complimented each other and were well thought out. Overall the food was good and the service was efficient and polite. The ground floor space lacked imagination and so didn’t add any feeling of occasion which would have helped justify the, not insignificant, cost. We won’t go again even though the food was good.

After struggling to find somewhere to eat tonight, a lovely lady at the Bakehouse took pity on us. She very kindly invited us in and made us very welcome. Initially we were served with a complimentary roll and truffle oil butter which was so good that the little piece of butter that was unused was left for us to use on our dinner.....far too good to waste. We had the sirloin steaks which came with an excellent side salad, half grilled tomato and very tasty new potato chips. The steaks were obviously good quality and cooked to perfection. We had a half carafe of red wine which was very good with a solid taste....i.e. didn't have a twang of vinegar! Unfortunately, we didn't have room for one of the delicious looking puddings on the menu.Special mention must be made of Chris who was our waiter. Such a lovely guy, nothing was too much trouble and he really made our visit extra special.

If you are going to serve premium food , you expect premium service . When we arrived it seemed that the customers in front of us were experiencing issues, which did not bode well for when we finally got seated. However, the staff on this occasion were totally lacking and one of my guests was left to feel very upset due to poor service and when I complained they just said send in a complaint to the management as it seems no one was in charge . The issue was partly resolved but far from satisfactory and it should have been down to the managers to contact us automatically, not expecting us to contact them.Cornwall is great for food and I would seek somewhere else with a better atmosphere and as good a food offering.

It was refreshing and sweet. Now I saw the king prawns on the menu and opted for these instead of scollops and I did not regret the choice. 6 large king prawns cooked in lemon and butter was outstanding and worth every penny, I would have paid double for the size and quantity I receieved. For main course, I opted for a Sirloin steak and the wife had the fillet.Steaks cooked beautifully and we're of high quality. Small menu. Four starters and mains of steaks with your choice of sauce and four fish dishes. My husband and I opted for the scallops and sweet potato soup to start and sirloin steaks. Starters were tasty although not large. The unusual coconut roll served with the soup was delicious but tiny. Ditto the complimentary roll with speciality buttet we each received after placing our order. Our sirloin steaks were good but medium rare, rather than rare as we requested. This was a little disappointing for a restaurant that bils itself as a speciality steak and seafood restaurant. The steaks were served with excellent skin on chips, a half tomato and a caeser side salad. Shame there were no other choices - my husband likes neither tomato or caesar salad but there were no alternatives. Service was prompt but rather impersonal - it sounded rather as if the servers were reading from a script. The restaurant also lacked atmisphere: It was surprisingly unbusy for a Saturday night yet they wouldn't accept any walk ins.Our two course meal for two with a bottle of wine totalled £77, before tip, which I guess is reasonable for a steak meal. We enjoyed our meal but probably wouldn't rush back, particularly as the menu is so limited.

Booked this after reading the fab reviews but in fact we were unlucky enough to have the same experience as some of those who weren't happy with the portion size. I ordered the brown meat crab risotto and my partner the main size tortellini. The brown meat risotto was a hearty serving and tasted much better than it looked (literally a bowl of mid-brown coloured food without any garnish), but my partner did not fare as well with just 5 or 6 large stuffed tortellinis - not enough for a grown man for dinner. As he has IBS and a gallstone he knew that this small serving would cause him problems later in the evening so cut his losses and left to get a pub meal down the road. (He did consider ordering another portion but worried that it would take too long to arrive.) I stayed to finish my meal on my own! When the waitress asked me if everything was ok, I said 'my partner's portion size was not large enough so he has left to eat somewhere else', to which she responded 'ok' and left. When the bill arrived, I said unprompted to the waiter that all the food was really tasty but that the tortellini was disappointingly small and that my partner had gone to the nearby pub to get a proper size meal. The waiter said 'ok' and then a few minutes later in a chatty manner 'so what plans do you have for the rest of the evening?' to which I responded 'going to join my partner at the pub so we can spend some time together!' I then asked for a takeaway box for the tortellini and the rest of my veg (both of which tasted fantastic when we ate it cold the next day at lunch). When the food was returned, my veg was half the size of what had remained in the side dish, which was strange. Maybe they dropped half of it in the kitchen. The waitress didn't know. So in all a rather disappointing evening, not helped by the complete lack of engagement by the three different staff who served us, all of whom were pleasant but very detached and disinterested in our experience. Portion sizes and pricing is a tricky thing, but we would not have minded paying more for a decent size serving. Overall a rather expensive evening, as it involved food and drink at two restaurants!

Found this place almost by accident. The meal was very nice but I was shocked by the price of drinks - £10 for a large glass of wine, £4.75 for a pint of Doom Bar, and £3.50 for a small children's lemonade. I don't like being ripped off so will not visit this restaurant again. Be warned!

The food was amazing and staff were lovely. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. Staff were very attentive and nothing that we asked was too much.

I’d heard really good things about The Bakehouse so popped in for lunch today. So glad that I did. The seafood spaghetti was the best I’ve ever eaten. Beautiful flavours, perfectly cooked pasta and huge, succulent prawns in shells. The dessert menu looked tempting but sadly I was full. The waiter was very friendly and the service was very good. I would have liked to have had the option to add a tip when I paid by card. Fortunately I had some cash but in this day and age fewer people carry change or notes with them. I’d hate to think that the waiting staff missing out in a tip. I’d definitely recommend eating here.

Set back in Chapel Street it’s a gem. Although they specialise in steaks we had the vegetarian option which was nice- cheese board for pudding. One was enough for us both. There was plenty of room and our waiter was helpful

To start at the title, the food was absolutely amazing. My wife and I ate here a few days ago and the food was So tasty and the service was impeccable from all three of servers that were working. The cornish wine I tried was lovely and the bottle we had was just as good. The price of food was superb in comparison to its quality. If ever in Penzance don't miss out.

We went to The Bakehouse to celebrate our birthdays and took along our daughter. The restaurant was very well organised to cope with the demands of social distancing and yet still created a good atmosphere. Our gin based starter drinks were carefully mixed and well presented. Our starters were beautifully presented and really tasty. Our mains - fish, steak and a beetroot risotto - again followed the pattern of superb presentation and satisfying taste. Puddings were excellent and couldn't be faulted. The young staff were attentive and helpful but didn't crowd us. After leaving, we walked down the beautiful Chapel Street and found a pub to finish off the evening.

So Good!Very much worth the long wait to get a booking! The food was incredible and some of the best quality in the whole of Cornwall. The kitchen is very small and only a handful of tables are made available each evening. Everything is spotlessly clean. Hope that the restaurant will stay open all year so that I can return.Thank you.

An excellent oasis away from the general riff-raff that is Penzance. The menu is pricey, but worth it. Lovely cosy and intimate ambience, and the Romanian girl from Spain is utterly charming in her own staid and sassy way. The other staff are wonderfully bubbly and exuberant and know what they’re doing. Food-wise, I’d recommend the tiger prawns, as they are delightfully chewy and fresh and served piping-hot off a master skillet. I wouldn’t order a vegetarian dish, since chefs these days don’t like cooking vegetarian entrées. So a turf or surf dish would be an ideal choice. The cuisine is casual-gourmet with a nouveau inspiration, though the portions are more generous here than what you’d get at a nouveau venue. One to return to time and time again!

Second visit to this attractive cafe that sits behind one of the main carparks on/near the towans. We chatted outside as they got ready to open and then found a comfy seat inside with a great view. Ordering was easy, the menu is small but has something for everyone and they also cooked us a dish not on the menu which I always find is the mark of hospitality and good customer service. Food was fresh, hot and the St Ewe eggs were delicious!

Simply outstanding!! From the moment you are greeted to happily offering a generous tip " The Shack " in Falmouth is a must for all sea food lovers! The food, the flavours, the portion sizes, the choice, the price.. all just great value! If it was closer this would be our local go to most weekends. Nothing to fault here!
