Have visited Tonbridge many times and have been meaning to go in here, looks really nice from the outside. Finally went in ordered two toasties and two milkshakes £31 seemed expensive but was thinking the items must be worth it. They arrived no salad or crisps with a £9 toastie and it looked & tasted burnt, we both only ate half. Milkshake had nice flavour but was lumpy and wouldn't say worth £6.50. The only saving grace was the back garden was lovely, a little sunspot hideaway but wouldn't return which is a shame.

Honestly i've been here twice after wanting to go in for ages and they haven't disappointed their food is out of this world, honestly i now cant have any other bread or dessert without comparing it to how much these guys are hitting it out the park,! Anyone who disagrees i believe their taste buds aren't working. its been a long time since ive had a brownie that's made me crave another one for an entire week, the only downside is they're closed on Mondays! what i would do to grab a toastie/ cake or coffee to help motivated me through my work day / week! honestly never been to a café like this one and i suggest everyone grab what you can in the mornings! The staff are brilliant, the location is super cosy and lovely for sitting in or sitting outside to people watch, perfect place to have your breakfast or lunch!

My husband and I moved to the area last year and have been on the search for the perfect coffee, sadly this was not at bakehouse. While the baked goods are absolutely delicious, the coffee is really gross. It is slightly better (but still not great) if you drink in. I am not sure if the baristas just haven’t been trained appropriately or the coffee itself is bad, but it really needs looking at. I have only given 3 stars because of this.

Although in a lovely setting the food is very over priced. I ordered a toastie which they charged me £9 for (£2 extra just to sit in), it was sourdough with just cheese and spring onion. When it came no salad etc and although nice £9 is a ridiculous price. Was recommended so was disappointed. My friend ordered a brownie and oak milk latti which came to £7 and they charged extra for oat milk.

Title says it all, I ordered a vegetarian pizza and they hid some prosciutto under the cheese. Accidents happen and they didn't charge me for that pizza, but they still charged my partner for her meal, which struck me as being extremely cheap. In their position I would have done the most I could given it was only £11.Other negatives were not a single water refill - 250ml each for the evening, and the plates were unpleasant scratched aluminium discs, which some might object to on food-safety grounds, and were awkward to cut food on. They do have chinaware at other times of the day.

I really like the staff here and the atmosphere, I just wish there were more vegan options. There are dozens of pastries lined up by the cash register, but not one is vegan and at this point in time, it really isn't too difficult to offer at least one option for people who don't consume dairy or eggs. This is such a great addition to Tonbridge - and especially the top half of the high street where there’s fewer eateries. The building is gorgeous and the food (especially the brunch/lunch sandwiches) is great. However, the last couple of times I have visited the service has been SO SLOW! They have an archaic system where the poor girl on the counter downstairs has to telephone the kitchen upstairs to place food orders, and likewise answer the telephone to hear that orders are ready for collection/service. Of course this massively slows service at the counter, and you can queue for 10+ minutes just to order a cake to take away (as I did last week!). At busy times they could certainly do with an extra pair of hands on the counter, and they need to jump into the 21st century with their order/communication system.

The one good thing about this place are the delicious cheese scones and the fact that if you have a cup of tea it comes in thin china cups which allow you to taste the tea, unlike so many establishments that tend to serve tea in thick cups which ruin the taste! Having said that each time I visit I hope that someone has decided to do something, especially in the downstairs eating area to bring some kind of atmosphere to the place. I am not alone is saying they seem to have missed out ...the place is crying out for an information panel and maybe photos of its previous incarnation......plus the fact that the inglenook fireplace always looks a dead space. When we have been into places of a similar age with a similar interior one always gets a welcoming warm feeling...this place is dark and although staff are friendly the place is lacking atmosphere...this is in no way taking away from the fantastic job the owner has done in retaining and using this historic building. It would only take a little more to bring it alive.

The Bakehouse at 124 is good...... yes good....... not brilliant or superb or even outstanding sadly. Why? Well I always get the feeling that as a customer who wants brown bread with my French onion soup, rather than white sourdough, that I’m an unreasonable person! Now this place is a BAKERY, yes? They bake bread there, lots of it, all different. So why oh why can’t you have a choice of bread with your soup? Twice we’ve visited and have got the same answer each time (full marks for consistency at least). “ You can buy a loaf of another bread if you wish and we’ll slice it for you if you wish!” Well whoopee! Don’t put yourselves out guys. Now their sourdough bread is beautiful, and fresh, and tasty and just the right chewiness, but white bread sadly does not agree with me. I just don’t get their attitude. It’s not as if we had visited at 3pm and they’d be left with odd loaf ends or something. It was 12.45, before the lunch rush..... though I never actually saw any lunch rush and we left at 1.45. Maybe £10 for 2 bowls of soup with fresh sourdough bread and butter is about right nowadays. I can’t help wishing that your food came with a smile, rather than a poker face though. Maybe they’d be packed out on a Wednesday lunchtime if they made an effort to give the customer what they request. Yeah, but I’m being unreasonable aren’t I? Asking way too much. How could you make any money by offering different breads on the Menu! Well Subway seem to do it VERY successfully. And you CHOOSE what sandwich fillings you want too. And can even add extras!

Having recently enjoyed a 'diy' toast and marmalade breakfast with coffee, wherein we purchased three slices of sourdough bread, marmalade and butter, then toasted the bread ourselves and enjoyed a tasty relaxing breakfast, we called in today to repeat the experience. The greeting we received left us gobsmacked Despite the service being prominently advertised with the costs for one and two slices of bread being shown, on ordering we were told that they had no bread available, it having all been sold yesterday. Considering the prominent notice and the fact they bake bread on site daily, why advertise a service that depends wholly on people not buying the bread the previous day Doubtless if we'd ordered poached eggs on toast or similar, bread would have been available for that.

We have been a few times for coffee and pastries as the food and building (including garden) are inviting. The cakes and pastries are all baked in house (you can watch them being prepared and cooked). The counter staff can be a little bit slow at times and a number of our visits have had 2 or 3 staff serving each customer - which tends to slow things down and cause a bit of a queue. The food is relatively expensive (£3-4 for a loaf of bread) but perhaps not surprising given it's a small, local business. It is important to patronise local trades so, as a treat, I am happy to spend a little bit more on occasion. I couldn't afford to do that all the time though - even though the quality is good. The building is beautiful and the log fire in winter is so welcoming. The garden area is lovely when the sun is shining.

We decided to go as a little Christmas treat for ourselves, and what a treat it was!! The food was wonderful, the accompanying drinks were excellent, from the champagne on arrival to the delightful port which accompanied the delicious cheese course, and the service warm and friendly. Daniel is a talented chef and Lynton, his sommelier, knows his stuff - well done guys! The upstairs room makes for a lovely venue for such an event - subdued lighting, nice atmosphere. Our only small suggestion to improve it, at least for us, would be to ask attendees if they would like to share a communal table with others. We have 45 years of marriage and most conversational gambits have been done to death! The proprietors of The Bakehouse are to be congratulated on hosting such a great evening!

After an afternoon shopping in the High Street, this little cafe was a welcome find on my return to the car park. Lovely friendly staff, plenty of cakes to choose from & a welcome pot of tea. I chose to sit in the window seat & watch the world go by, however, when I climbed the stairs to use the toiets I discovered a large area with lovely comfy sofas to relax on, next time i shall have my cuppa upstairs!

One of my favourite places to have a coffee in Tonbridge. Beans freshly ground for each coffee. Good section of pastries made on the premises as are artisan loaves. You can see them being made from scratch. Limited seating downstairs. Plenty more upstairs but narrow tread to stairs but staff always willing to carry your tray.

I recently went in to pick up a sandwich for lunch (at lunchtime) the lady behind the counter reeled off a list of what sandwiches they had and I chose one. Eyed up a (over priced) fig and date slice and added to the order. I waited round for a few minutes money in hand ready to pay. The lady then put in a call to somebody upstairs to see how long it would take and then told me no sandwiches are ready. No time frame of when they would be ready just no sandwiches are ready. She apologised and I left disappointed. I may consider to try again another day but not particularly bothered for now.... Meh

Went to this bakery having been told about it by a shop keeper in Tunbridge Wells. Staff very friendly and we ordered the cheese on toast and a drink. When it arrived it looked amazing, two thick slices of bread with lots of cheese and worcester sauce. Unfortunately my friend and l found the bread so dence it was hard to cut up or eat and after just half of one slice l gave up and left it. My friend also eventually left half of her as well. It did not live upto expectations.

Being close to the castle The Bakehouse is a fantastic spot to stop and have a coffee or go full out for breakfast. We had the best eggy bread with a berry compote we've ever had and banana bread that was mouthwatering! The bakehouse was so good we went back same day for snacks and had an amazing cheese scone. The staff are friendly, service was quick and it was refreshing to see that the ingredients aren't only bought local but the names are listed. They're clearly a community focused small business and it makes you want to support them even more. If only we could have breakfast there everyday! Definitely worth going to and if you're local then eat a scone for me please!

This is a great place for coffee and/or lunch with friends. Nicely arranged outdoor area at the back for sunny days and fabulous olde worlde upstairs for not so warm days. Some great lunch choices, with breads made on the premises, and a range of tempting cakes. A favourite 'hang-out' - best cafe in town!

I have passed here a few times and I thought it was best to check it out. The staff are really nice and the food is great for a snack, I really enjoyed their coffee. It's bigger than you think and on a sunny day check out their courtyard garden which is really nice.

It's really nice to have a proper bakery and to be able to sit in and eat breakfast or lunch. Upstairs is a nice environment to relax in and the decor has been kept in character with the building, but not old fashioned. Not doing much for my waistline though!!

I have tried this place a few times, it's not somewhere that would be my first choice though. It feels slightly unfriendly and the selection of cakes is quite poor, there was a choice of four this afternoon.Very small portions and expensive for what it is.I live in North Tonbridge but usually walk further down the high street for coffee.

Enjoyed our lunch there, although a large group made for a bit of a slow service. The food was delicious and staff very helpful. Can recommend.

Had already been to this lovely, quaint bakery once and really enjoyed their cinnamon bun with my coffee, but on my next visit I was completely won over by their cherry tomato and pesto focaccia. Amazingly soft dough, not overly greasy or salty, and a HUGE hunk of it too which made the 2.50GBP amazing value for money.

Another great new coffee shop/restaurant recently opened in Tonbridge.Choice is a bit limited, but the quality and level of is very good. I love the sausage sarnies, the grandson loves the freshly made toast and jam.Upstairs is great...a lovely place to relax or you can sit downstairs and watch the bread and cakes being prepared.Let's hope Tonbridge continues to improve.

I don't know why The Bakehouse has not got better reviews. Popped in, whilst walking past looking for a lunch spot. The quiche was so delicious and even hit to take home bread for tomorrow's yummy breakfast. A definite thumbs up from us and delighted to see independent places getting support

Not sure why this place hasn't got better ratings and reviews! We had a lovely lunch over the Easter weekend - two ploughmans, nicely presented, with lovely fresh bread. We purchased a loaf to take home with us. The building is so interesting, lots of character, much more interesting than Costa, Starbucks etc! Staff all pleasant and friendly. We will be back.

Walked past this many times and thought i would go in a treat myself and husband to a sweet treat. Dissapointed to find there were only 4 things to choose from at that time and that pretty much everything was over priced. I brought what i thought was to be a safe bet. A jammy dodger looking biscuit which cost £1.50. But by the time i lugged my pushchair through the doors i felt obliged to buy something. My husband disliked it and left most of it i thought it tasted very much like pure butter aswell. I will try again but was dissapointed with choice and value

What a lovely surprise to find this coffee shop on a return to Tonbridge after many years. Not only is the building fascination but the lunchtime food was something different and very enjoyable. We sat upstairs in comfortable chairs with a lovely wood burner throwing out heat. We will certainly return as it was great value.

Lovely old building with lots of character and quaint inside. Unfortunately the selection available was small although tasty and reasonably priced. I ordered a flat white and was disappointed with what I received, not only was it tasteless but came with no spoon or option of sugar. Maybe some barista training is in order. While sitting having our lunch I noticed every customer struggle with the front door handle (maybe a small sign would help) trying to get out and a couple of people gave up trying to get in plus anymore than 4 customers leaves you lined up in the street. Also staff members rearranged the counter display several times to make it look more attractive without gloves while still taking money from customers and handling the food for sale. For a snack, takeout or bread this place is ideal but it has alot of potential to be more.

Fantastic cheesy scones, and an excellent cup of tea. Only complaint is that the door is kept open so unless you can sit out of the draught you get freezing feet.

I visited this quaint looking cafe recently for coffee and cake after a walk around Tonbridge. The building is lovely - full of character with plenty of beams and a large stone fireplace. It felt lovely and cosy after a chilly walk.Unfortunately, the coffee and cake were distinctly average and the service was on the slow side.

Disappointing. Starters were ok. Steak was full of sinew and tough. Chicken ok but with heavy over-rich sauce. Pork Loin almost inedible. Service was slow, one waitress didn’t know what black pepper was! We had to remind them about our second drinks order. At the end we were charged for 2 extras at £1 each. We didn’t query it but have no idea why we were charged. We will definitely not be returning.

We booked for a family afternoon tea, for around 50 people. We had plates of sandwiches and cakes, really lovely quality bread used and fillings were really nice. The coffee and tea were served in lovely cups and saucers with lovely tiered cake stands. The service was amazing, the servers polite and attentive. We are really grateful to Natalie the catering manager for such a lovely spread, so accommodating. The table cloths were beautiful, white laundered and the Pilgrims Hall itself is really lovely. If you are thinking of a place to hold a celebration do enquire, it was really good value for money and everyone commented on the quality of the food and drinks. My thanks to Kirsty for organising and being great at staying in touch to arrange the details. Plenty of parking and lovely walks around the Priory to walk off the lovely cakes. ❤️
