The food is absolutely incredible. Risotto and Monkfish were of the many favourites. Our waitress looked after us so well and was very knowledgeable about wines and food! Don't often go out of my way to write reviews but this is a must go restaurant in Bristol!!

Great food! Delicious, and well presented. The full range of food is really well done. Great ingredients, perfectly cooked. Delicous sauces. REAL skill in how the dishes are put together. Perfect flavours. Also, the service is just lovely. Friendly, good banter, just what you want. We paid just under £55 per head for three people sharing a bottle of wine, 3 courses, with aperitif and digestif all round, which seems great value for great food. This place deseeves to be overbooked every night. I'd say, best food in Easton. (I have eaten literally everywhere).

We love to try new restaurants and this one is our most exciting recent find. The food was delicious, even dishes that sound familiar had a new interpretation. The service was excellent and we were recommended a wine which we thoroughly enjoyed. We will definitely return.

Found this place through a friend's recommendation and the various posters on the Bristol-Bath cycle path and it did not disappoint! Really tasty French food, highlights were definitely the Picanha steak and the Truffle Panna Cotta. Myself and my partner didn't catch the waitress' name but she was incredibly lovely and personally made the experience for us! We will be returning, highly recommend.

We visited for an early evening meal. Large selection of wines but could stock a better selection of beer. The food was excellent. We had two of the (not so) small plates and a side. Couldn’t manage a pudding. The unusual pork bourguignon, was particularly notable, beautifully cooked and tasty.

Absolutely outstanding! What a fantastic gem of a restaurant. Go for a romantic night out. My husband and I were made to feel so welcome. They catered brilliantly for my coeliac disease and I could eat a lot of things on the menu. We had the lamb shank, risotto, garlic mash and risotto with a delicious red wine. My husband went for the cheese board and they brought out gluten-free bread do I could enjoy it, too. Wonderful.

Wonder if the chef had changed since the other glowing reviews. Food was ok but not amazing. Tomato tarte tatin starter tasted of burnt oven, as did the cannelloni. Presentation not great and the chef didn’t seem very enthusiastic. Disappointed that homemade focaccia on online example menu no longer available and replaced with sourdough from the local bakery (which we have at home..). Mille-feuille not the delicious pile of puff pastry I’d expect, and instead a lack luster couple of wafers with something not very creamy inbetween, tarte tatin tasted a bit burnt and pasty not very flaky or buttery. Atmosphere good until other diners left and staff cleared up in a way that made us feel we should leave before 10pm. We have a small child and don’t dine out much, so was disappointing that the food was similar to what I could have cooked at home and didn’t feel a massive effort had been made

The worst thing to happen to the French since the English. Mouldy butter starter (as confirmed by the waitress) followed by undercooked risotto and raw steak. Decent wine and a lovely knowledgable server has scored you a two but I feel that’s generous. Unforgivable on the butter situation.

This used to be the Pipal Tree, which I never visited except for a takeaway, though my wife went and said it was lovely - I hope they return soon with new premises. It's at the end of Chelsea Park, and you will struggle to find a parking place in this largely residential area Cafe Bistro and French influenced. They do coffee and croissants for breakfast - 8 until 11 which is when we went. Very nice. We had the place pretty much to ourselves - one customer reading in the window, and one member of staff making decent espresso. It would have been nice to sit outside but I dare say the planners might grumble. They do a brunch later, and a more ambitious evening bistro menu - I shall add it to my list of things to do

When I lived there, not long ago, Easton was known for its wide choice of kebab outlets, some capable of regularly attracting queues. The Baffled King has opened recently, with a completely different goal, and may be considered a barometer of change for Easton. The corner premises is familiar to local food fans and is compact & bijou, as Steven Fry used to say, but now the place has ambitions to provide a classy modern take on French bistro cooking and so is a welcome addition to local food choices in the neighbourhood. This review is of a business in its first few weeks and no doubt the machinery will bed in over time, but at the moment, it has a slightly eager feel to the operation, which I found rather pleasant. It’s as if the place is run by real people as opposed to the products of catering colleges. Me and local chums popped in mid-week and found the place full to the brim - not an empty seat to be seen. Our party of five squeezed in to a back corner and after some careful seat tessellation, found a comfy position for all, mine directly facing out over all the other customers and the kitchen so I could see what was going on. We ordered pretty much every dish from the compact & bijou menu and we could see the two chefs, heads down and getting on with it, in the small open plan kitchen - indeed, everything here is compact and bijou! Across the board, we tried fish, fowl, meat and vegetables and more, so for example, salmon & beetroot, terrine, hake, onglet & Catalan beef, duck confit and endive salad, pea risotto and polenta fries. Each small plate arrived separately, allowing us all to pick and choose as we ate. Afterwards, we just had time for a dessert (choc mousse and the cheese) before the place closed at 10pm. We all felt that every single dish was very nicely cooked and well presented. Many of the usual eating-out tick boxes were filled: onglet, bloody and full of flavour, hake cooked just so and with crispy skin, duck confit falling off the bone, cheese served at room temp and so on. When we voted for our favourite dish each, we all agreed they were all good - although the pea risotto seemed to nudge its way to first place by a nose! Campbell, the md, was quietly charming and advised on their compact and bijou - that phrase again - wine list, to good effect . Music sound track was just audible enough to hear classy jazz standards like Lester Young and the place was filled with a happy vibe, emanating from local people, I guess, busily enjoying conversation and good food. Our party felt this was a good combination. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal and wish the team every success. Here’s hoping Jay Rayner doesn’t review the place, otherwise seats will surely be hard to find!
