We've been coming to eat at Little French for several years but we have never been so disappointed with both the food and the service. A young Uni student seemed to be doing most of the waiting work and was great, the manager and others left a lot to be desired. As to the food, half of our guinea fowl for 2 looked raw and undercooked so completely lost any appetite we had. Whilst the manager knocked 50% off the cost of that particular dish, the overall experience was wholly off-putting as we didn't eat most of the main except the fries (which were nice). It feels like Little French has lost its edge and now poor value. We won't be back 😔

Excellent service. Food was very good. The deep fried courgette flower was excellent to start. The cote de boeuf was good but not the best steak I've had in Bristol. The frites and aligot were really nice. The creme brulee and chocolate mousse were both fantastic and big portions. I should note that this place is very expensive, easily the most expensive meal I've had in Bristol outside of a Michelin star tasting menu. Also a little disappointing that they don't take American Express, especially considering how expensive it is. Similar restaurants such as Little Hollows Pasta take Amex. Overall really good meal.

We were lured to dinner at Little French by the TV program Michel Roux Junior presented but very disappointed. Firstly by the menu then by the food. Perhaps we should have read the reviews before we travelled from Lincolnshire! Limited menu, food was OK but certainly not what we expected! Would I return? No. Photo is my first course, mushrooms on toast!

Very disappointed. I ordered monkfish and the size of the portion was honestly an insult no bigger than my finger size! It was a very special day for us and wanted to celebrated at this restaurant as the first time we went last year was amazing! I complained and the manager said I am so sorry it is a very expensive fish!!!!! Do you honestly think that should be a response to a client? We come from the Cotswolds and often go to the Dormy House near Broadway, many times have ordered monkfish and I know it’s an expensive dish however the price is very similar but portions completely different. Sadly left the place still hungry! Ah as a compliment they had the hard face to charge us service charge!!!

My second visit to this place as we loved the meal we had first time. Unfortunately I ordered monkfish and the portion size was an insult, extremely small. I complaint And the manager said I am sorry but the fish is very expensive.i don’t think the manager was professional at all as you don’t say this type of things to a client! I don’t mind paying the right price as long as the portion is reasonable. I won’t visit this restaurant again I am afraid!

Recommend by a friend, I was so excited to be having lunch at Littlefrench for our wedding anniversary. Unfortunately I was so disappointed. Starters were OK, ham tasty but quite a few bits of gristle. Mains….over cooked sea bream, undercooked green beans, brown, dry over cooked chips (I could smell old oil coming from the kitchen) and everything was over salted. Stone cold Brie de Meaux with underwhelming sourdough served on a pretty scabby board. Strawberries and cream…meh. I just sensed a real lack of love all round. Such a shame.

Shame I have to leave this type of review being that I ended up cancelling my booking. Seems there's is an extremely pretentious, early 00s Russel Brand lookalike who works at the front desk called Matt who says he is the only management / senior management. When making my booking over the phone, I phonetically spelt my name over the phone twice as I guess I have a slight accent, I was rushed off the phone, then received an email confirmation to a Josh Akbhar (not even close tothe letters in my name). Naturally, I called to ask to resend a new email with my name after phonetically spelling for a third time, again rushed off the phone and I received another email, again spelt incorrectly. I sucked it up but shortly before my reservation, my partner took ill with an allergic reaction to medication. I called to explain and Matt answered, when I tried to give my name for the booking he told me "I know who you are", I explained the situation which he oddly found amusing. When I called to log the a complaint (genuinely a lifetime first) I was told that all complaints must go through him.. The friends that live locally who recommended this place for its food did say staff can be rude. If you're willing to treated condisendlingly by someone who looks like a wedding singer, I've heard this place isnt too bad.

Such a shame. Like a number of other reviewers we had previously had many nice meals here and it used to be one of my favourite restaurants in Bristol. Sadly our most recent meal was dreadful. We went for Sunday lunch as a party of 3. We decided to skip starters in favour of deserts. Service was very slow. The waiting staff no longer explained the dishes, or asked about allergies or asked how we wanted food cooked (despite us ordering steak). I asked what the lamb main course came with and if I needed sides. I was told it came without any carbs so the waitress suggested I order some. It was actually served on mash. The food took forever to arrive but when it did it was undercooked and unbelievably fatty (both the steak and the lamb). I spoke to the waitress who just said sometimes it came like that. I explained that we had had the sharing steak before several times and it had never been served like this. She just said sorry and left. We couldn’t eat much of it and asked for the bill straight after mains because we all felt a bit sick. The total bill was £170+ for 3 mains with soft drinks, no starters (just bread/olives) and no desserts. It took I hour and 45mins just to be served that.

Nice restaurant, but considering the price, I would have expected more from the food. I've also heard great things for a long time so maybe expectations were too high. Feels outdated, but maybe it's just a traditional vibe they're going for. Also, the table service was nothing to rave about, particularly being given dessert menus and then not being seen for so long that we all decided that it was too late and the moment had passed. Thanks for a decent meal.

We had heard great things about Little French so when my husband asked me to book a family meal there for his birthday I made sure to book ahead early as I know how busy it gets. Everyone we know who's been told us to get the Cote de Beuf sharer which we did and honestly... I've had better steaks in Bristol. It wasn't consistently cooked- the inside pieces were very raw - a bit too much for my liking. The chips were crispy but very dry and needed a lot of extra salt for a good taste. The thing that disappointed me the most though was the 'cakeage' charge - we were unaware of this beforehand (couldn't see anything on the website) and I had worked really hard on making my husband a homemade cake that he wanted so we could share it with the family but because we weren't ordering dessert the manager said we had to pay a £3 per head charge... so £21 added to our bill for a cake that I had made. Put a bit of a dampener on the meal to be honest but hey ho! The staff however were really lovely and attentive but I won't be rushing back anytime soon.

We thought that the decor was lovely suggest mirrors on brick wall as my husband sat facing this. We arrived and ordered Beaujolais which was zingy so the waiter kindly replaced. My starter was Scallops which was tasty but unfortunately a bit gritty! My husband had soufflé which was light but very cheesy. My main course was ribeye steak which was cooked perfectly but the peppercorn sauce poured all over it was very salty! The mashed potatoes was tasty but runny I had trouble spooning onto my plate. My husband had fries which took up half of his plate. Crispy cabbage arrived unexpectedly not sure why it's called this as the cabbage was nit crispy? Very poor and we were very disappointed especially after the TV documentary!

Visited here having been seduced by the rave review on a certain tv programme. We had the beef and the aligot which were very nice. Drinks are reasonably priced and the staff are friendly. The downside was our choice of starters. Crispy fried asparagus was not! Thick batter, greasy. Lamb sweetbreads had a beautiful sauce but that was about it. Seating/tables are clamped to the floor with so little space between the benches and table that you can hardly breathe if you are plus size. A pregnant woman would absolutely not be able to eat her without requesting one of the few chairs that are movable. Terrible meal - kidneys very fatty, cote de Boeuf cold, chewy and red raw. Regularly have medium/rare however a good vet would have brought this to life. Would not recommend to go anywhere near this place - shocking. Servers try very hard and felt sorry for complaining but the food was the worst we have had on our fortnight trip around the south west. Booked last year after Michel Roux’s recommendation on Remarkable Places to Eat. We had a 6 night break for our wedding anniversary, 5 nights of which were all fish restaurants in Cornwall & Devon. We wanted red meat after all that fish and chose lambs kidneys followed by cote de boeuf for 2. Lovely bottle of Fleurie to accompany. It was a cold wet day and the restaurant felt chilly, which worried me as I cannot abide lukewarm food. Sorry to say the lambs kidneys were underdone and the texture felt slimy, I cut off a lot of white fat. The flavour was great, but the middle bit (renal pelvis?) was left in. Bit yucky. Cote de boeuf arrived, allegedly medium rare but cold and a bit chewy. Too rare for our taste so asked for it to be cooked a bit more. By this time the hispy cabbage (beautiful) and fries were going cold. Beef was better on reheating, well seasoned and lots of it but still a bit chewy. I would also say the knives need sharpening because I had trouble cutting the sourdough underneath the kidney starter and my husband couldn’t cut through the beef. We are a very reasonable couple, and eat out a lot, but considering the restaurant’s high reputation following Michel Roux’s recommendation, it was a disappointing end to our holiday. We only came to Bristol for this restaurant on our way home to the Lakes. Thought there might be some solid french rustic food such as beef bourguignon on the menu. Our overnight stay at Number 38 Clifton is fabulous though!

Lovely little place, nice staff too, since I’ve given up alcohol i really struggle when out to find a nice drink to go with food, i don’t want tonic or coke with food, I do think more adult af drinks should be on offer nowadays, Jasmine sparking tea is a great one with food, light and refreshing, it’s just like a light sparkling wine, so I had to put up with the only adult af drink on offer an ipa, far too heavy with food, I started with the razor clams, the garlic butter they came in was so good (order bread to dip) my clams were a bit were gritty and chewy but the butter made up for this, then my husband and I had the cote de boeuf very tasty but we had a lot of chewy bits which we couldn’t chew through sadly as it tasted good, our friends had the same but less chewy, then I had rum baba… that was nice, my husband and our friends loved the pinot Noir red wine, We’d go back but chose differently food wise… and hope the af drinks improve 🙏 The bill was £571 for the 4 of us, pretty hefty price tag, we paid less at the hand and flowers 2 weeks previous, understand prices are high these days but thought this was over the top, £70 was service charge.

Nice chilled bistro experience . Cote de boeuf was well cooked and could have fed 3. A nice bordeaux to have with then finished with the best chocolate mousse ever.

We were looking forward to Littlefrench on our visit to Bristol. Should have been the highlight, but we were so let down. Shown to our table straight away, but it was very cramped with bench type seating. Budget airline rather than business class. Menu looked great. Souffle was poor - not fluffy, more bread like. Had to ask for bread which we expected to be a baguette (french restaurant) but was sourdough slabs. Terrine came in a breadcrumbed case like a croquette - tasty but not really a terrine. Main courses were Cote de Boeuf to share - tough not seasoned well and undercooked. £84.00 ! Rabbit was tough (knocked off the bill ) Skate was very salty. We had to pass our plates to the end of the table as there was no way the waitress could collect them. Bit like being back at school. Very cramped very expensive and overall not good at all. Resting on it's vist from Michel and Fred I think. Will not be returning.

We celebrated our anniversary and enjoyed the experience. The croquettes were the best, light, crispy on the outside oosy on the inside and tasty, shame we decided to share 😁. Scallops were sweet. The partridge was nice, but the sauce was too salty for me. The rumbaba was bad, rock hard, and tasted strange, but we were not charged for it. The chocolate mousse was divine. Cocktails were lovely. The service was pleasant, not too happy when I said the sauce was salty. However, dealt very professionally with the rumbaba, tried it themselves and agreed it was not good. Atmosphere was very nice and relaxed. Thank you Little French team. 😀

Lovely atmosphere, lovely staff, food not so good. Starters and desserts were ok but the steak was tough. Like a previous review said, I also came out smelling like a deep fat frier. Not sure I would go again.

Its Ok. Its nothing special. The food is above average, well made, good ingredients, very good presentation. The service is decidely average, nothing special... no explanation of menu, no wine pairing advice delivery, its a good French bistro, you buy off the menu at you're own experience. Essentially you pay you money you make your choice... staff add very little to the experience, actually no real experience at all, you are left to yourselves, but if thats what you want, good food at predictable prices for it

Heard a lot from people who had dined there so looking forward to experiencing the food for ourselves. Very disappointed with way food prepared and served- good wines though! Dietary requirements beyond kitchens capabilites.

Really enjoyed entire meal. Everything was cooked beautifully and the sauces sensational. The confit egg was cracking (excuse the pun) and it was really unique to have the Guinea fowl to share; as I’m not a beef eater it was a great and very tasty option. Service was fantastic all round. The score reflects our thoughts but if we had to nit pick… the waitress chewing gum whilst serving in a restaurant of this standard was a no no in my mind.

Great service and lovely food/drinks. However we were disappointed at the large amount of french fries on both of our main dish plates. (I had pork and my partner had duck. Duck was too sweet but pork was lovely. Starters - scallops etc were all amazing.) We didn't feel it was worth paying that much money to be honest. Probably one of us should have chosen something else that doesn't come with fries if we knew.

The galettes were the best I've eaten in years. All of them are gluten-free too! The crepes were also amazing. It's such an attractive little place, and with the staff apparently all being French you can kind of imagine you're in France - the food is certainly good enough. Highly recommended.

The food was very good, but the service was far too quick and we felt very rushed. We placed our order and I went straight to the bathroom. On my return, our starter was already on the table. Between our starter being taken away and our main course arriving took just 4 minutes. We could easily have gone through 3 courses in less than an hour. We couldn't understand why we were being rushed when there were plenty of empty tables. Please allow customers to enjoy an evening out at a leisurely pace without making us feel like we're on a conveyer belt and you want us out the building asap!

Food was delicious and fresh, however very expensive for what it is. Probably better to order actual dishes from the menu than having lots of small plates. We spent £68 for just 2 of us, on small plates and 2 drinks each. This was lunch and a pricey treat. It was extremely busy, so therefore, service was slower than usual.

The food is absolutely incredible. Risotto and Monkfish were of the many favourites. Our waitress looked after us so well and was very knowledgeable about wines and food! Don't often go out of my way to write reviews but this is a must go restaurant in Bristol!!
