Heard great things about this so decided to check it out. To start the kidneys were undercooked and had not been properly prepared. The scallops were underwhelming. Then we had the pork check which the mash was thin and the sauce was more like dish water. It is a very pricey restaurant and I won’t be returning.

Me and my partner went at the end of Jan for our 2 year anniversary and then again on 7th Feb for my Birthday LOVED IT both times. It 100% lived up to the hype. The food was fresh, hot and tasted fantastic. The restaurant was clean and had a lovely ambience. The staff were amazing. We ordered a hot chocolate which didn't come and when we asked the lady supervisor, I think her name is Mia, she brought it out straight away and on the house! We are already planning our return! X

Fish was overall tasty, at the beginning really nice but after eating longer I realised it was way too salty and end up kind of ruining the dish for me, unfortunately. Desserts were nice. Not sure if worth the price though.

Lovely little bistro ❤️ every single dish was amazing and the wines that they suggested for pairing were amazing as well! Not a single thing to complain about and we are picky when it comes to wine and dine 😂 My personal favourite was their beef tartare on bone marrow but really every dish was amazing! Price is extremely reasonable too! We ordered escargot for sharing, and then three courses each with three glasses of wines and two glasses of beer and only paid 200 ish in total!

Little French was the perfect venue for to see off the last grey and wet Sunday in January. We were treated to a memorable lunch, of dishes both robust and fortifying. We’re not Bristolians, but were down for the weekend, meeting up with old friends, and we’d booked Little French as we had heard so many great things about it…..but sadly , it did not live up to its reputation. We met for a late Sunday lunch, and received a friendly welcome from the staff. The ambience was good and the menu looked inviting. The wine list was varied, with a good selection, but a bit pricey. We ordered starters and mains. 3 of us ordered the skate for main, then the waiter said…let me just check, and returned saying….”we only have 2 skate available,” so back to the menu and one of us chose something else. Then the waiter returned again with “ we only have 1 skate” so again back to the menu, another change, and the order went in. Then 2 minutes later, our waiter returns AGAIN, to tell us…..” there’s no skate” 🤦♀️ Disappointing and a real lack of communication. Not the best start. So our starters arrived. My twice baked soufflé tasted good but was flat, not light and pillowy as it should be☹️ it had clearly been sitting and waiting on the pass. My husband had the kidneys on toast which had to be sent back to the kitchen, as they were just luke warm. The scallops were underwhelming…. but the bone marrow on toast saved the day, it was exceptional! So a dis-jointed first course as by the time the kidneys were re cooked most of us had finished our starters. When our mains arrived, the guinea fowl platter for 2 was great, and so was the aligot, but the cod was yet again lukewarm warm and was returned to the kitchen. It’s one thing I can’t stand is tepid food. There is NO excuse. The cod had obviously been sitting waiting for the guinea fowl to be ready. Again, we received sincere apologies from our waiter. It was a meal of two halves, as 2 diners ate, the other 2 waited and watched. This is not a cheap restaurant and it prides itself on its quality, we had expected more, it was really disappointing. After more apologies from the staff about the wait, in hindsight, perhaps we might have been offered a complimentary dessert to make up for everything that had gone wrong? But no… The bill duly arrived and the price of the kidney starter was deducted, at least that was something. I really wanted to give Little French a glowing review, but sadly on the day, it just didn’t live up to the hype!

The setting is lovely - it looks and feels like a lovely French restaurant. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. Myself and my partner both started with the mussels which were delicious and we’d both be happy to eat them again. My main course was medallions of pork tenderloin with prunes and Armagnac on mash potato. While the meat was cooked nicely and was tender, the sauce was very thin and lacked flavour (in a blind tasting, I would not have guessed prunes or Armagnac). The mash was so thin, almost liquid. The combination of the thin sauce and almost-as-thin mash did nothing to excite the palette. It all seemed, and tasted, rather gloopy. My partner has a rabbit dish. It sounded very nice on the menu but, like my dish’ needed more flavour and the meat, in her opinion, needed to have been cooked longer as it didn’t ’fall off the bone’. She had a portion of frites - these were bit disappointing (they were just skinny MacDonalds-like chips). Some nice Dauphinoise or Gratin Savoyarde would have been a better offering. The desserts were fine. We both thought that a Café Gourmande would’ve been a nice inclusion on the menu. The wine list looked ok. We had the cheaper of the two Côtes de Rhônes which was fairly ordinary and an Italian red, which was better (both were around the £35 mark). It’s a the top end pricewise and we expected to be excited by the food but, I’m afraid to say, we weren’t.

I had read some less than favourable reviews before booking but I am so pleased I went ahead and booked. We received a warm and friendly welcome and all the staff were attentive and professional. We have loved France and its cuisine for years and this just felt so authentic. The food is delicious, unpretentious and authentic. There were also French wines that we love. It was a snowy night when we visited and the restaurant was warm and inviting. My husband had sweetbreads followed by venison which was really soft and tender. I had olives and onglet steak. It came with lots of fries which I don’t normally eat but they were delicious! We both had the chocolate mousse, that was absolutely perfect. We can’t wait to book again.

Went here with family. The menu was focused yet provided good variety. The Pork was phenomenal, the balance of salt to sweet and herb expertly judged. Pudding (chocolate mousse) was absolutely outrageous and felt like we should be observing the time honoured tradition of eating it with a head covering like Ortolan, so decadent was it. Good wine by the glass available.

We visited just before Christmas and had a poor experience. Noted on the booking that our 4yo was coeliac and diary free. Took nearly half an hour to get a marked up menu for their safe to eat items, and over an hour to receive our food. Requested snacks in the meantime to tide over our young child who was getting increasingly upset, which didn't arrive. When I asked for our waitress to come to our table for the third time I watched her roll her eyes at the other staff member before further delaying coming to us. I felt mortified that she felt that way but had no choice but to stay to try and get food for our small child. Second disappointing experience here, the food is variable quality although there was a good range of gf df items they weren't marked accurately on the menu we got in the end (a goats cheese dish was marked df for example). Won't be returning, and will be advising anyone I know not to come.

I had the duck which was amazing and my friend had the rabbit which at the time was succulent and soft. A couple hours later my friend contacted me due to having an upset stomach after the meal. Having not eaten anything else for the rest of the day we have to tell that the only thing we did not share was the rabbit. This is sad of us because it’s such a delightful meal and I hope that this isn’t a repeated thing throughout this business. The service was fantastic mind.

Lovely atmosphere, very busy for a Friday night but I thought the staff coped well. Service was good. Cheese soufflé and scallops were lovely, however I was utterly disappointed by the Guinea fowl. Tastless and absolutely swimming in unappealing juice with a side of what seemed to be frozen fries which my partner also agreed with. I couldn’t eat it and it’s unfortunately put me off ordering any other type of similar game bird any time soon. For an expensive meal and supposedly upmarket restaurant I couldn’t believe this was how they were serving one of their main dishes. I’ll start with service.. exceptional, they got every detail right, friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable and efficient. Plus they worked out it was my birthday and gave me a (delicious) chocolate mousse, with a candle. Food was delicious, I’m still debating if it’s the best steak I’ve eaten and if it’s that close who’s worried. We were the first people sat and it did lack some atmosphere at first, but that changed as people arrived. Down sides; it’s toppy on price, it’s small, no space to drink at a bar, but this does add to the exclusivity of the place. About the only thing I found fault with was the table water, some ice would have improved it. When you spend a lot on a meal, you want to be impressed. I was, very picky 4.66 stars

Have been to Little French five times previously but this was the most disappointing. We booked for 7:45pm on a Monday and it was quite busy but not full. From being seated the staff took about 25 minutes to take our drinks order, even serving the table next to us first despite them arriving 10 minutes after. There was limited apology for this. We then ordered food (bread to share followed by the guineafowl to share). The bread ended up coming before our wine did which isn't great. The main course then took ages to arrive, almost to the point I thought we'd been forgotten about. All in, it took 1 hour 10 minutes from when we arrived to get our main course and in that time we had some bread. When the waiter took our plates before the main came he asked "how were your starters" - we'd had a slice of bread!! Food was nice but I thought the sauce with the guinea fowl was a bit bland compared to previous times we have shared that dish. All in for 3 glasses of wine, bread and guinea fowl it was £112 - expect better service when paying those kind of prices. Worst experience so far and not in a huge hurry to rush back.

We've been coming to eat at Little French for several years but we have never been so disappointed with both the food and the service. A young Uni student seemed to be doing most of the waiting work and was great, the manager and others left a lot to be desired. As to the food, half of our guinea fowl for 2 looked raw and undercooked so completely lost any appetite we had. Whilst the manager knocked 50% off the cost of that particular dish, the overall experience was wholly off-putting as we didn't eat most of the main except the fries (which were nice). It feels like Little French has lost its edge and now poor value. We won't be back 😔

The frites and aligot were really nice. The creme brulee and chocolate mousse were both fantastic and big portions. I should note that this place is very expensive, easily the most expensive meal I've had in Bristol outside of a Michelin star tasting menu. Also a little disappointing that they don't take American Express, especially considering how expensive it is. Similar restaurants such as Little Hollows Pasta take Amex. Overall really good meal.

Very disappointed. I ordered monkfish and the size of the portion was honestly an insult no bigger than my finger size! It was a very special day for us and wanted to celebrated at this restaurant as the first time we went last year was amazing! I complained and the manager said I am so sorry it is a very expensive fish!!!!! Do you honestly think that should be a response to a client? We come from the Cotswolds and often go to the Dormy House near Broadway, many times have ordered monkfish and I know it’s an expensive dish however the price is very similar but portions completely different. Sadly left the place still hungry! Ah as a compliment they had the hard face to charge us service charge!!!

Arrived a bit early but no problems and we were shown to our table. Service attentive but relaxed. We had the Cote du Boeuf, which was excellent, followed by a Creme Brulee, which was beautifully smooth. All in all, a great dining experience for my 60th birthday.

Five stars is not enough for this amazing establishment. It’s one of the best in England. Making green beans to taste this great takes greatness. The fish is super. Steak could be slightly more tender.

Recommend by a friend, I was so excited to be having lunch at Littlefrench for our wedding anniversary. Unfortunately I was so disappointed. Starters were OK, ham tasty but quite a few bits of gristle. Mains….over cooked sea bream, undercooked green beans, brown, dry over cooked chips (I could smell old oil coming from the kitchen) and everything was over salted. Stone cold Brie de Meaux with underwhelming sourdough served on a pretty scabby board. Strawberries and cream…meh. I just sensed a real lack of love all round. Such a shame.

We had really enjoyed a meal here a couple of years ago and decided to return for a special birthday lunch. Just before arriving, I read some recent reviews and got a bit worried. Fortunately there was no need: food was very high quality as previously and now offers slightly more choice. Wine list interesting and extensive. Service friendly, helpful and very efficient. All contributed to a happy, informal atmosphere- full of people evidently enjoying themselves. We hope to visit again soon.

A very memorable evening. The food was outstanding 👌 Absolutely worrh every penny. Delicious, flavourful, and perfect. And to end the meal, I'd never had a chocolate mousse as rich and silky. Can't recommend enough and can't wait to return.

Shame I have to leave this type of review being that I ended up cancelling my booking. Seems there's is an extremely pretentious, early 00s Russel Brand lookalike who works at the front desk called Matt who says he is the only management / senior management. When making my booking over the phone, I phonetically spelt my name over the phone twice as I guess I have a slight accent, I was rushed off the phone, then received an email confirmation to a Josh Akbhar (not even close tothe letters in my name). Naturally, I called to ask to resend a new email with my name after phonetically spelling for a third time, again rushed off the phone and I received another email, again spelt incorrectly. I sucked it up but shortly before my reservation, my partner took ill with an allergic reaction to medication. I called to explain and Matt answered, when I tried to give my name for the booking he told me "I know who you are", I explained the situation which he oddly found amusing. When I called to log the a complaint (genuinely a lifetime first) I was told that all complaints must go through him.. The friends that live locally who recommended this place for its food did say staff can be rude. If you're willing to treated condisendlingly by someone who looks like a wedding singer, I've heard this place isnt too bad.

Ordered the rare iberico pork fillet….thought I was ordering a rare breed of pork not undercooked raw pork that was warm! Freddie needs to spend more time training staff to explain to customers how food is going to be served rather than expanding his business empire. This was a lunch time service with only 6 customers….so waiting staff not exactly overwhelmed!

Cozy little restaurant, came for our wedding anniversary and had delicious food served by lovely people. Unfortunately, the pretentious couple next to us chose to spend the evening picking fights with servers over the exact temperature of wine and pushing food around their plates like children. Make no mistake, they came focused on having a bad time and everybody else in the restaurant was absolutely loving their food, drink and evening. Try the Cornish Pastis as an Apero :)

Such a shame. Like a number of other reviewers we had previously had many nice meals here and it used to be one of my favourite restaurants in Bristol. Sadly our most recent meal was dreadful. We went for Sunday lunch as a party of 3. We decided to skip starters in favour of deserts. Service was very slow. The waiting staff no longer explained the dishes, or asked about allergies or asked how we wanted food cooked (despite us ordering steak). I asked what the lamb main course came with and if I needed sides. I was told it came without any carbs so the waitress suggested I order some. It was actually served on mash. The food took forever to arrive but when it did it was undercooked and unbelievably fatty (both the steak and the lamb). I spoke to the waitress who just said sometimes it came like that. I explained that we had had the sharing steak before several times and it had never been served like this. She just said sorry and left. We couldn’t eat much of it and asked for the bill straight after mains because we all felt a bit sick. The total bill was £170+ for 3 mains with soft drinks, no starters (just bread/olives) and no desserts. It took I hour and 45mins just to be served that.

Ludicrously good food. We’d been talking about visiting for nearly 2 years, and our long awaited trip surpassed all expectations. Great food and brilliant service from some really friendly staff.

All a bit Emperor's new clothes. Some good things, most poor . £190 for 2 people, order came with items missing/late, stale turned desert wine, unseasoned turbot. Disastrous Souffle Suissesse resembled a flat cheese omlette in split grainy gratin sauce. Overall poor value for money back up with indifferent service.

Charming place for a romantic meal. Food was outstanding. Great menu and everything was delicious. Lovely cosy decor - modern and stylish. Service was excellent too. Fast and unobtrusive. We had lamb sweet breads, crab, steak and cod with some oysters to get us going.

Nice restaurant, but considering the price, I would have expected more from the food. I've also heard great things for a long time so maybe expectations were too high. Feels outdated, but maybe it's just a traditional vibe they're going for. Also, the table service was nothing to rave about, particularly being given dessert menus and then not being seen for so long that we all decided that it was too late and the moment had passed. Thanks for a decent meal.

We had heard great things about Little French so when my husband asked me to book a family meal there for his birthday I made sure to book ahead early as I know how busy it gets. Everyone we know who's been told us to get the Cote de Beuf sharer which we did and honestly... I've had better steaks in Bristol. It wasn't consistently cooked- the inside pieces were very raw - a bit too much for my liking. The chips were crispy but very dry and needed a lot of extra salt for a good taste. The thing that disappointed me the most though was the 'cakeage' charge - we were unaware of this beforehand (couldn't see anything on the website) and I had worked really hard on making my husband a homemade cake that he wanted so we could share it with the family but because we weren't ordering dessert the manager said we had to pay a £3 per head charge... so £21 added to our bill for a cake that I had made. Put a bit of a dampener on the meal to be honest but hey ho! The staff however were really lovely and attentive but I won't be rushing back anytime soon.

We had a lovely evening, staff excellent attentive without being intrusive. Food and wine were both excellent. Crab and scallop starters Cote de boeuf not chewy as previous reviews have mentioned and Hispi cabbage was beautifully cooked (its Hispi NOT crispy!!) And to finish OMG the chocolate moouse was to die for. Can recommend going on a Thursday evening as not so busy.

We thought that the decor was lovely suggest mirrors on brick wall as my husband sat facing this. We arrived and ordered Beaujolais which was zingy so the waiter kindly replaced. My starter was Scallops which was tasty but unfortunately a bit gritty! My husband had soufflé which was light but very cheesy. My main course was ribeye steak which was cooked perfectly but the peppercorn sauce poured all over it was very salty! The mashed potatoes was tasty but runny I had trouble spooning onto my plate. My husband had fries which took up half of his plate. Crispy cabbage arrived unexpectedly not sure why it's called this as the cabbage was nit crispy? Very poor and we were very disappointed especially after the TV documentary!

The set menu is incredibly good value BUT I was entertaining clients and was extremely disappointed to be told that anyone who chose anything from the set menu was precluded from ordering a dessert from the full menu at any price. This is not only commercially foolish for the restaurant but is appalling customer service and petty rule following for the sake of it.

An absolutely wonderful meal! We started with the champagne and oysters which were absolutely delicious, as well as the asparagus with goats cheese which was fab. Followed with the venison and aligot which were all superb and finished off with chocolate mousse and creme brûlée to end what was a perfect meal! Thank you very much! I look forward to returning!

We wanted to support local family run restaurant and try the new set lunch menu. The photo on facebook of the asparagus starter shows 5-6 spears so was disappointed to be served only 2 spears! All the other food, mussels and cheese soufflé were as photos.

Visited here having been seduced by the rave review on a certain tv programme. We had the beef and the aligot which were very nice. Drinks are reasonably priced and the staff are friendly. The downside was our choice of starters. Crispy fried asparagus was not! Thick batter, greasy. Lamb sweetbreads had a beautiful sauce but that was about it. Couldn’t comment on the sweetbreads themselves as there were only 4 pieces on my plate each no bigger than my little fingernail. Total letdown. Would come here again but would choose more carefully

Has definitely gone downhill recently, only one guy greeting and serving people which is madness. On a regular weekday afternoon last week, there was a queue out the door, and took me 15 minutes to collect my order, by which time it was cold. Cannot understand why Yo restaurants regularly only have one waiter, especially now they’ve removed the QR code ordering too. Often orders are cancelled or not event cancelled till you show up and are told it’s out of stock, yet you can order it online and on the iPad in store…It’s a shame as the food as this branch is normally pretty good! And with blue light discount some things are a bargain for a hot grab and go lunch. The food here is normally better than the Cribbs one in my opinion, however the service is just ridiculous. The poor guy looked as frustrated as everyone in the queue. Really needs some focus on staff

Booked a surprise birthday meal for my husband's 60th. Secretly arranged for our adult children to be already seated when we were shown to our table - he had no idea they were in Bristol. The restaurant played along and the surprise was a huge success. I was delighted with my choice of restaurant. Great menu choices, lovely food, and knowlegable, efficient staff. The atmosphere was just right, and the decor was beautiful. We would highly recommend.
