Came to Astoria and Tokyo joes for a social night out. From start to end I can’t fault my experience! We had a vip table and they went the extra mile, the music was great, and they had fire performers which I’ve never seen before. They had a variety of cocktails, beer pong and a Photo Booth! I think it’s great they have welfare staff out the front that offer water and make sure you get home safely too. They made sure I had a safe way home and was with my friends. Would highly recommend!

There is no option to give minus ratings at here otherwise I would have given -5 to Astoria. Security guards at Astoria club behaves so harshly. Even if your group members especially you are going with girls and if they are there to give supportive statements and even if things are happening with consent they will not care. They will kick you out with no reason. Things are not ending there they will handover to any individual( Customer) to police. I think they are having contract with police like “as security guards will provide 30-40 people” then guards will get commission. This is so pathetic this reality will definitely come toward people one day and people will change their focus to another clubs like one eye dog, Moonshine, Pop world, Afters. The Astoria will understand in upcoming days about loss of public (customers) due to security guards harassments. How long they will do the same thing. One day the truth will be revealed. As right now it is booming era for Astoria so it is doing advertisements in effective way. But surely the club’s reputation will be reduced very badly. They have to work on treating the people in proper manner. At the end everyone is paying less or more and no one is coming free or the club is not giving free entry. If club is giving free service and behaving rudely this we can understand. But even after paying they are misbehaving and acting extremely manner less then this approach will cost the club’s fame very badly. Because time doesn’t stay same it will change and people would see the real face of this club.

Love Astoria and Tokyo Joes!! There’s so many rooms and different types of music! Love the cocktails, there’s a guy that breathes fire, the slushies *chefs kiss* If it’s your birthday get a booth cause they go all out!!

I'm currently pursuing a personal injury claim against this venue and would like to share some concerning facts that have emerged. Based on publicly available complaints, you are statistically 2,120% to 8,220% more likely to be assaulted by door staff at Astoria/Tokyo Joes than at other Portsmouth nightclubs. Numerous reviews describe the door staff as aggressive, overzealous, and even a safety risk to customers. My own experience, along with many others, suggests that excessive force is common here. I had a panic attack because someone who was stalking me followed me here, and i was really badly assaulted by door staff / bouncers, my arm was in a sling for 3 weeks. They assaulted someone because of a medical emergency. If you choose to visit, be aware of the well-documented history of incidents involving security personnel. You could be seriously injured.

The bouncers are way to violent, Me and my wife went here a short while ago My wife was assaulted. We were not intoxicated she just slipped on the wet floor. But they dragged her out none the less. She is quite injured, currently caring for her. Ive tried to compain but the only way it seems is via Instagram, which is an app i dont use. This place needs to be investigated by the SIA

DON'T GO TO THIS NIGHTCLUB. Waste of money and staff are untrained, it's no wonder why there are more 1 star reviews on this place. Bouncers are very unfriendly, and barge through you when crowded. If you lose a student black card there then you can't even request a new one, they expect you to pay more when you could have paid less, it's no wonder why their service is rubbish and they are losing customers. Pricing is absolutely terrible, paying £2.50 for something to be finished in a second that doesn't have much of an effect on you. Experience is awful, and they always play the same music, and they don't accept any music requests. Staff working there are NOT trained and don't have an education of how things work, it's likely that they didn't pass their GSCEs so their only option is to work there, they don't care about the customers needs. In all sections no one enjoys themselves there, most of them are just on the phone because I wouldn't consider this even a club. This is not how a business works this is how a torture chamber works.

Absolutely awful place. There was a man with a female wig on in the bathroom. I said excuse me why aren't there gender neutral toilets for that at the bar and that i was very uncomfortable there was a man with a wig on in the female bathroom. The bar staff then clicked the security over to me and accused me of being homophobic when I was expressing my discomfort ?? I was outside for an hour and half waiting for my friend and for them to bring me back my coat. The security were lovely. I asked for the manager to come out and asked him the same question. He then said I look like a man with a wig on. I was furious, I felt mocked and very upset. The man in the toilets was clearly a man and all I was doing was politely expressing my discomfort and asking a question why is that allowed and why hasn't the club accommodated then with gender neutral toilets. Do not go in, you will be disappointed

This is the worst nightclub, especially because of the bouncers. I was just there to say hi to a friend and had an issue buying a ticket. I stepped out to help them sort it out, but when I tried to go back in, they wouldn’t let me. Meanwhile, they clearly warned non-Asians that if they left, they wouldn’t be allowed back in, but for Asians, there was no warning at all. On top of that, they made derogatory and racist comments towards Asians. This is by far the most terrible nightclub ever.

Security can't tell the difference between a sober customer and a drunk one. I paid £300 for a VIP box and then went out to check if I had locked my car door and they wouldn't let me in.

Saw the bounders assault some poor old soul

One of the worst decisions I've ever made was to spend my 31st Dec night here. This is the first time I'm here and what a horrible experience! People were so mad drunk and they were throwing random stuff on others. Everyone's ready for a fight and at a point when I was dancing with my friends, I got hit by a glass on my head and I started bleeding profusely. I fainted and fell on the floor (I wasn't drunk). I came out to report the incident to one of the security guards and despite calling an ambulance or just doing any first aid, he said that the blood has now stopped and asked me and my friends to go home. Is this how you respond to an emergency situation? Please atleast have some control on what is happening and how people are behaving inside. I now cannot see clearly with my left eye. Been 4 days and I am still having a severe headache most of the times. I'm unable to sleep almost all the time and my head still hurts. Please look after the wellbeing of people. That will take you a long way! What a terrible way to start my year! Never coming back!!

Used to be amazing. The songs are now cheesey in basement but the songs two years ago were afrobeats and so much better. All I wanted to hear was last last by Burna boy and I did not hear it once. Iam so outraged and disappointed in this experience in third year compared to my first year. I really hope something changes and there is improvement for the foreseeable future.

Drinks are ridiculously cheap on a Tuesday! Everytime I have been here the atmosphere is always great the bar team are friendly and the bouncers do a great job making me feel safe.

Astoria is a great spot for a night out. The music is varied, offering something for everyone. Drinks are reasonably priced, and with a wide range of options available at multiple bars, the wait times are relatively short. The venue also features good sound systems and lighting throughout the floors.

Saturdays in the encore room are unmatched! For afrobeats and hip hop this is the place to be with an incredible DJ of unmatched energy. I would Highly recommend

I’ve come from Southampton to visit a friend and I got kicked out despite having one drink. It seems as though the bouncers have a superiority complex and kicked me out for no good reason (After this incident my friend gave me his keys to get my stuff (I left in his apartment) but considering I don’t know the area they wouldn’t let me talk to my friend and allow him to give me the postcode to collect my stuff evidently proving they didn’t care if I got home safe. Now don’t get me wrong the club was great but the bouncers are so stupid and have no care about anyone’s wellbeing.

Inside the club is amazing. However the bartenders and the bouncers are ridiculous. I tried buying my friend a drink as I owed him one but they assumed my friend was too drunk to order one and therefore chucked me and my mate out, for me trying to buy my mate a drink. They didn’t even bother listening to me or my mate and decided we needed to be chucked out. What a joke of a security.

I have always been to Astoria as Portsmouth is my home town and I generally felt quite safe there. However tonight was not that case. I had lost my friends and therefore stood at the main entrance of Astoria, but on the inside due to the cold whether, contacting them saying where they should meet me/pick me up. I sent a picture of the entrance to my friends as they are not from round here and I thought it would help for then my phone being snatched out my hand by a female security guard saying I can’t do that. She continued to go through my phone and told me I was vile, looking through all my personal stuff. This then lead to the male security guards joining in a shouting abuse at me as I was told to leave. I would also like to say I was not drunk or had taken any substances due to literally finishing work an hour before hand. I will not recommend this club to anyone who comes to visit

My girlfriend and her cousin were assaulted by an egomaniac bouncer who couldn’t handle the fact that a 21 year old girl was asking to finish her drink she has just purchased conveniently right before the bouncer who assaulted them tried to kick them out. Other bouncers on site rushed to ask if they were feeling lightheaded as they correctly assumed the bouncer who had assaulted them could’ve given them a concussion but they were all sneaky enough to not implement themselves in the situation as they know that the consequences that will follow. Do not go here unless you want to run the risk of being assaulted without and thrown out by an egomaniac who can’t handle a young 21 year old woman asking to finish her drink.

Kicked out for absolutely no reason. My girlfriend sat on the floor outside as there were no benches available and a security guard comes up to her. My girlfriend lent forward to hear what she (security guard) had to say as she had difficulty hearing her and the security guard claims she is too drunk and laying hand on her so proceeded to walk my girlfriend out in a restrained and unnecessary way as there was no threat whatsoever and claim to be starting a fight with her. Completely unacceptable, unprofessional and unnecessary behaviour from the guard which could have been easily resolved and handled if the guard has listened. Unnecessary abuse of power.

Usually, Astoria is the best place in Portsmouth for clubbing. But last night's security was ridiculous; whilst chasing after someone who wasn't even running, they crashed through the crowd, throwing people's drinks over them and knocking a woman flat onto the floor, which is stupid when security is there to protect people. As a small woman myself , I don't think I will be comfortable attending this club again, especially considering the price you have to pay for the privilege.

Staff need to get off their high horse and stop using their power to bar people from coming in. With a group of friends and a security guard who clearly just enjoys the little power he has too much barred us from coming in at all for no reason. Do not go if you want to have a pleasant night with nice staff.

Not usually a massive fan of night clubs but I had a good time here! Visiting a mate at the Uni and ended up going out and landed in Astoria. Good mix of music on the different floors, drinks weren't extortionate and the bar staff were very nice :)

Very friendly good night out. Full of uni students who happened to be very friendly even though a few of them had a few too many but they were no bother at all. It's a bonus when they link up with Tokyo Joe's next door so you end up having one massive super club which is brilliant until you loose your mates, but some girls called me over and I spent the rest of the night with them until I found my mate's again. Really friendly atmosphere biggest club on the south coast and a good night out. The bouncers are top class which always makes a difference 👍

We was having a lovely time at the Astoria but unfortunately my girlfriend was harassed by one of the customers and was extremely upset. We went to the staff and bouncers for help they supported my girlfriend and was really really kind and respectful. They hunted down the predator and delt with him in the right way. I would like to give a special thanks to Tea bouncer staff for dealing with the situation and a special thanks to Miriam who was at the front of Astoria for supporting my girlfriend.

Used to be good but the bouncers are excessively violent and rude for no reason. Have seen people get kicked out for not doing anything or very minor things.

Bartender Nelson was very rude. I would not want anyone to be served by him.

I got thrown up on and they simply didn’t care. That girl was allowed to stay in so I went home in just a bra with vomit on my top, coat and bag. Honestly horrified. Update I had a conversation with someone on Instagram and they threaten me with a ban for sharing my story on social media and accused me of being aggressive. I asked to be shown the cctv but was not able to (I understand gdpr as other people were in the video) but to be threaten with a ban and a cussed of being agressive without being removed from the premises at the time of the incident seems as tho they’re struggling with the negative story that I am telling. If I was in the wrong I would hold my hands up but they are no help

Absolute disgrace, the bouncers DO NOT show commitment to the code of conduct within their license and cannot show justified reasons to use excessive force for a eject on a female who had her arm bent behind her back causing severe pain and distress, I will be finding out the two brain dead bouncers and will be fileling a complaint to the sia directly for misuse of conduct !!!

The security are terrible, they kick you out for the littlest things and are just generally rude. When me and my friends asked to get back in, one of the bouncers grabbed my arm and tore my wristband apart.

Awful place. Manager is extremely unprofessional hence my smashed iPhone that he decided to throw to the floor. As for the security guards I am lost for words. They have no people skills, clearly haven’t been through their own protocol because they just exert their power without any context or reason. With this being said, me a 5ft 6 FEMALE, was restrained by 5 MALE security guards. Pathetic and ridiculous. This place needs to get shut down, it is clear that customer service and hospitality isn’t at the forefront of this establishment.

Absolutely vile, homophobic behaviour from your staff! My sons friend was removed from the premis last night, stating it was because he was kissing another male. This is discriminatory and isn't the first time, you should be ashamed of your staff and concerned how this will impact your reputation among so many young people. Young people who are accepting and respectful of individuals, not judgmental and abusive like your staff. Utterly shameful!

What a fantastic venue for a Saturday night had the best night and the music was fabulous!
