Best night out in Portsmouth! Always me and my friends first choice, cheap drinks, great atmosphere and great music!

We used to love this place, constantly coming here to have a great night however we have experienced racial remarks several times now and this is no longer a safe space for people of colour. Do better for people that aren’t white, thanks

Inside the club is amazing. However the bartenders and the bouncers are ridiculous. I tried buying my friend a drink as I owed him one but they assumed my friend was too drunk to order one and therefore chucked me and my mate out, for me trying to buy my mate a drink. They didn’t even bother listening to me or my mate and decided we needed to be chucked out. What a joke of a security.

First time coming here was kicked out after 30 minutes for a minor reason and misunderstanding even after just paying £20 to get in absolute waste of money . Staff are rude will never visit here again, should have read the reviews before going . Got people doing coke and drugs but they don’t get kicked out bouncers just take advantage need some better bouncers and staff .

I have always been to Astoria as Portsmouth is my home town and I generally felt quite safe there. However tonight was not that case. I had lost my friends and therefore stood at the main entrance of Astoria, but on the inside due to the cold whether, contacting them saying where they should meet me/pick me up. I sent a picture of the entrance to my friends as they are not from round here and I thought it would help for then my phone being snatched out my hand by a female security guard saying I can’t do that. She continued to go through my phone and told me I was vile, looking through all my personal stuff. This then lead to the male security guards joining in a shouting abuse at me as I was told to leave. I would also like to say I was not drunk or had taken any substances due to literally finishing work an hour before hand. I will not recommend this club to anyone who comes to visit

My girlfriend and her cousin were assaulted by an egomaniac bouncer who couldn’t handle the fact that a 21 year old girl was asking to finish her drink she has just purchased conveniently right before the bouncer who assaulted them tried to kick them out. Other bouncers on site rushed to ask if they were feeling lightheaded as they correctly assumed the bouncer who had assaulted them could’ve given them a concussion but they were all sneaky enough to not implement themselves in the situation as they know that the consequences that will follow. Do not go here unless you want to run the risk of being assaulted without and thrown out by an egomaniac who can’t handle a young 21 year old woman asking to finish her drink.

Kicked me out for leaning on the bar and talking to my girlfriend even tho I explained what i was doing they said i was to dunk even tho i had only had 2 drinks

The worst experience of my life they kicked me out for no reason, they are really bad I don't recommend anyone to repeat my experience

Usually, Astoria is the best place in Portsmouth for clubbing. But last night's security was ridiculous; whilst chasing after someone who wasn't even running, they crashed through the crowd, throwing people's drinks over them and knocking a woman flat onto the floor, which is stupid when security is there to protect people. As a small woman myself , I don't think I will be comfortable attending this club again, especially considering the price you have to pay for the privilege.

Kicked out for absolutely no reason. My girlfriend sat on the floor outside as there were no benches available and a security guard comes up to her. My girlfriend lent forward to hear what she (security guard) had to say as she had difficulty hearing her and the security guard claims she is too drunk and laying hand on her so proceeded to walk my girlfriend out in a restrained and unnecessary way as there was no threat whatsoever and claim to be starting a fight with her. Completely unacceptable, unprofessional and unnecessary behaviour from the guard which could have been easily resolved and handled if the guard has listened. Unnecessary abuse of power.

Horrible place. Bouncer got into a fight once while I was waiting outside for a friend and he threw himself into me while waiting outside. Fights happen all the time, and someone tried to punch me because I was in his way when getting out of the toilets. Full of pathetic skinny insecure boys looking for fights

Overzealous and agressive staff - not surprised to see many reviews saying the same! Used to frequent this place a few years back, not the same anymore.

Staff need to get off their high horse and stop using their power to bar people from coming in. With a group of friends and a security guard who clearly just enjoys the little power he has too much barred us from coming in at all for no reason. Do not go if you want to have a pleasant night with nice staff.

Not usually a massive fan of night clubs but I had a good time here! Visiting a mate at the Uni and ended up going out and landed in Astoria. Good mix of music on the different floors, drinks weren't extortionate and the bar staff were very nice :)

Head security is a scum bag can't handle the fact they are incapable to make a decision so always resort to violence as they got a badge and think there powerful when in reality he's got a terrible skin fade and has to sit outside all night to make money while I'm inside spending double his wage I hope you read this you short bellend sort your trim out (bare in mind I also told them about someone spiking drinks and not a single thing happend to him)

Very friendly good night out. Full of uni students who happened to be very friendly even though a few of them had a few too many but they were no bother at all. It's a bonus when they link up with Tokyo Joe's next door so you end up having one massive super club which is brilliant until you loose your mates, but some girls called me over and I spent the rest of the night with them until I found my mate's again. Really friendly atmosphere biggest club on the south coast and a good night out. The bouncers are top class which always makes a difference 👍

We was having a lovely time at the Astoria but unfortunately my girlfriend was harassed by one of the customers and was extremely upset. We went to the staff and bouncers for help they supported my girlfriend and was really really kind and respectful. They hunted down the predator and delt with him in the right way. I would like to give a special thanks to Tea bouncer staff for dealing with the situation and a special thanks to Miriam who was at the front of Astoria for supporting my girlfriend.

Used to be good but the bouncers are excessively violent and rude for no reason. Have seen people get kicked out for not doing anything or very minor things.

Bartender Nelson was very rude. I would not want anyone to be served by him.

I got thrown up on and they simply didn’t care. That girl was allowed to stay in so I went home in just a bra with vomit on my top, coat and bag. Honestly horrified. Update I had a conversation with someone on Instagram and they threaten me with a ban for sharing my story on social media and accused me of being aggressive. I asked to be shown the cctv but was not able to (I understand gdpr as other people were in the video) but to be threaten with a ban and a cussed of being agressive without being removed from the premises at the time of the incident seems as tho they’re struggling with the negative story that I am telling. If I was in the wrong I would hold my hands up but they are no help

Didn’t have enough space in cloak room at a busy Halloween event and the queuing system is rubbish. Also the smoking area floods when it’s raining. It’s a vibe though

Absolute disgrace, the bouncers DO NOT show commitment to the code of conduct within their license and cannot show justified reasons to use excessive force for a eject on a female who had her arm bent behind her back causing severe pain and distress, I will be finding out the two brain dead bouncers and will be fileling a complaint to the sia directly for misuse of conduct !!!

The security are terrible, they kick you out for the littlest things and are just generally rude. When me and my friends asked to get back in, one of the bouncers grabbed my arm and tore my wristband apart.

Bad Security they are gangsters on security uniform ,because I asked for the manager they attacked me and hit me on my face make me bleeding and now they took me to the court after I tried to defend myself,,they editing the video and the evidence ,, they used to do this with a lot of people every one read the comments will know how horrible they are

Astoria is a good night out! Packed full of people dancing, drinking and great music. The garden is rather big so it's like an extra club out there. Love it.

Awful place. Manager is extremely unprofessional hence my smashed iPhone that he decided to throw to the floor. As for the security guards I am lost for words. They have no people skills, clearly haven’t been through their own protocol because they just exert their power without any context or reason. With this being said, me a 5ft 6 FEMALE, was restrained by 5 MALE security guards. Pathetic and ridiculous. This place needs to get shut down, it is clear that customer service and hospitality isn’t at the forefront of this establishment.

Absolutely vile, homophobic behaviour from your staff! My sons friend was removed from the premis last night, stating it was because he was kissing another male. This is discriminatory and isn't the first time, you should be ashamed of your staff and concerned how this will impact your reputation among so many young people. Young people who are accepting and respectful of individuals, not judgmental and abusive like your staff. Utterly shameful!

What a fantastic venue for a Saturday night had the best night and the music was fabulous!

they kick you out over the most littlest thing. extreme pick and choose who they kick out. wont kick out people doing drugs in the garden or laying down on the floor but will kick you out if you are seen to be on your own? kicked out numerous times for the most ridiculous reasons and all times would not let me get my friends so left alone drunk in the streets.

On a commerical club basis, the best. It has 3 areas divided with a good split of different genres, with each areas atmosphere fitting its genre. Garden is bright and cheese music, basement is dark playing urban. The main room has a cosey but fitting balcony around the main dancefloor. The whole building has a beefy sound system without leaving your ears ringing at end time. The production level in main room is spot on, with dancers, sax and drummer to give the room an added edge and festival vibe. you can sit down upstairs without feeling bored whilst feeling the up to date house and tech!

Bouncer 2 who eated a bit spinach think he is poppey but reality his miss beat him up at home. That’s way he try to show his power at least in work.Thank you for nice experience of Portsmouth town as guest. Felt really unsafe. The security guards don’t do a good job at protecting people. My friend got punched in the face and she got kicked out of the club when she got punched for no reason. I got pushed down the stairs by a security guard when they were kicking us out but it was uncalled for because i was already leaving and i did not touch her at all. This is assault.I don’t recommend the club at all purely because of how they handle situations.

Saw a girl get punched in the face and when she complained the security kicked her out while she was still bleeding. Another security guard physically battered another girl and pushed her down the stairs. Do not recommend at all.

I went clubbing here for the first time for my friend’s 18th birthday and it was amazing. The owner and all of the staff there were super nice and made us feel safe. The music was great and the fire dancers only added to the fun atmosphere. We had a blast and would definitely come back in the future :)

Had an amazing time on my 18th, super accommodating staff & kind - incredible service. Security was great - made us feel safe. + DJ (Brett) had great vibes :). All 4 rooms were awesome, perfect for different music tastes / change in environment Multiple bars makes it easy & accessible to get drinks The fire show / disco dancers in the main room made the club extra special and entertaining. Different themes for each day of the week makes it exciting - will definitely return Portsmouth’s best club for sure.

I have had lots of great nights out in Astoria with my mates. We always end up going back. Definitely a great nightclub to go to in Portsmouth. It’s a big club with different rooms, the basement, main floor in Astoria, lots of bars, garden bit and connected with Tokyo Joes on a Friday and Saturday. Gives you a choice of what music you want to listen too and where you want to go.

Worst night ever. When we arrived all the cloakroom was full and even people taken out coat we will be refused with no logical explanation. We were there one hour and was on the way to one room when one of the bouncer grabbed us and push us out with no explanation. The bouncer don't even approach us nicely and not even said a word, just pushed us out. Very disappointed. Wish I can give a minus. And after this bad experience I can't even report the bouncer as no name badge. People go out to party to enjoy themselves not to meet frustrated and controlmaniac bouncers whom use their power just they can.

Safest and best club in Portsmouth! If you want to go clubbing I’d hugely recommend Astoria, it’s fun, vibes and most importantly safe, they never fail to make you have the best night ever and there’s at least 3 events every week including a new one on Sundays too now! (Free toast, who can say no to that) so yes I highly recommend- from a fellow Astoria obsessed customer😁

Just wanted to say a big thank you to the female member of the door staff working on NYE. My daughter had been separated from her friends and a bit tipsy, I had to drive 30mins to collect her and the door staff looked after her and kept her safe until I came to the door for her. It’s a really comfort to know that there are some caring people out there still. Thanks again.

Amazing night last night, bar staff were kind, bouncers were helpful and the night was very on theme with halloween. Was jam packed with people in there best halloween outfits, 100% can’t wait to do it all over again next year!!

I do have to say I’m something they call a “well travelled man”. I’m a man of taste and experience and throughout my life’s endeavours I have not been able to replicate the same feeling that overwhelmed me when stepping on the glorious dance of the Astoria for the very first time. I have been searching for the same rush every since. What can I say vodka flows like a waterfall in this club especially if Kieran Tomsett is paying. The women Corr do not get me started, I’ve heard rumours Hugh Hefner stepped into the Astoria back in the 50s and this was the inspiration behind the playboy mansion. If I was on my death bed and a priest asked me where will after life take you; Astoria on a cold Tuesday night would be my answer. I hope you boys and girls have a great time.

Lost my ID, I messaged them and told them I didn’t live local and also no access to a car therefore couldn’t come in at opening times to check if they had it. After a couple messages they kindly posted it to me and I have my ID back!

the first time i went my friend was kicked out for falling over on their wet stairs when she was “being too drunk”, in actual fact she was sober, ruining my birthday. i gave them a second chance and they kicked my boyfriend out, not realising they got the wrong guy, refusing to talk to me.

I tried to call up and explain I needed to see if anyones has had my id as I am going into immediate accommodation the lady on the phone was very rude and said ‘ we’ll do you want to pay someone £250 to open up the venue ‘ after I explained what my situation is. Not returning here because of the lady on your phone. Thanks x

My daughter was physically assaulted by a member of the door staff. He hit her on the back of her head and singled her out all night. She ended up leaving on her own crying. Such a big man picking on a 19 year old girl.

Came down from cambridge for a night out and wow i was happy with this! Fast service, the quality of bass was amazing, the balcony area was the best. But very very crowded at times

Security is ridiculously bad at this place, my mate went clubbing here and had his face smashed in by some lad and nothing was done to stop it. I'd give negative stars if that was a thing. Disgusting place.

I was at Astoria yesterday and I bought bottle of Hennessy which I couldn’t finish , unknowing to me that I can’t take the bottle out , while I was leaving the security took the bottle form me and push me out of the club, I was still pleading for me to go back in and finish it if that’s what they want as I can’t take the remaining out , but he push me out instead like Nobody ! No regards for customers .. now they will sell the remaining drink as shots for other people after I paid for it !!! This is very bad!!!
