The Ashville in Bristol, City of

Visited yesterday for my husbands bday after a few years absence. We used to live a few streets away and go regularly, but was worried it wouldn’t live up to our memories but it absolutely did. It’s bright and fresh inside, service is great, and most importantly food is blooming fab. Back in the day the burgers were always a highlight, the flavour lives firmly in my mind 🤤 Pleased to report nothing has changed on that front! The 3 meat combo of brisket, rump and rib eye in the patty definitely makes for one of Bristol’s best burgers 💪 Then it would have been criminal not to have steak. 10oz I believe is bigger than the standard serving for a fillet at many other venues, so good value, and yes it’s the most overused phrase ever but it was cooked to perfection. The chips are exceptional - impress even my seriously fussy husband who moans that most places don’t cut their own potatoes. Onion rings the size of your hand. Mac n cheese to die for. I could go on. We will not be leaving it that long until our next visit 🤤

How this isn’t a straight 5 star across the board is beyond me. Just had the best steak meal ever with top notch service and bloody decent cocktails!!! A must go place for steak!

We went for a friend’s birthday, he had been raving about the Ashville and it did not disappoint. Lovely setting, wonderful service and great food. I had a stunning piece of fillet, just melted in my mouth with a wonderful side of tripe cooked chips. I genuinely couldn’t recommend the Ashville highly enough.

Absolutely brilliant. Food and rink were fabulous, great quality and portions and reasonably priced. James looked after us throughout our visit and was exceptional. He went over and above, bringing a couple of wines over for us to try before we bought, suggesting food, and just being relaxed and making our time so so enjoyable and special Highly recommend this venue, we thought we were walking into a residential area, but this little gem was in the centre and did not disappoint. Residents here are lucky to have such a place on their doorstep. We will definitely return and recommend to others.

Left quite disappointed. We have been here a couple times over the years and wine selection is unusual but interesting (Hungarian and Romanian......something different I guess) and the service is actually fairly efficient. What really threw us off is the large T Bone cooked mid rare, would never have such a large cut rare so the fat can be properly rendered. We have had every steak in this city and I've never experienced this. Basically I'm convinced of this or a combination of these factors happened while cooking. - Either the cut is not aged in anyway and low quality - It was seared and then deep fried - The grill section used to sear was caked in pork fat due to the Sunday lunches and it literally made crackling out of fat. The steak was just predominantly tasting of pork through and through and was kinda gross sitting in a pool of fat unrested, probably should have spoke up but we had already waited an hour at this point. Shame coz I've rated this place highly before and something clearly has changed, wouldn't just put a review for any old reason but I'm concerned about the potential cross contamination and paying £140+ for a steak isn't cheap.

Family birthday celebration for eight very well organised on Good Friday, on arrival made to feel very welcome, especially by James, lovely decor and nice atmosphere, The best steaks we’ve ever tasted, good side dish selection. Our first visit and we will definitely be back soon

The perfect spot to catch up with people or have a quiet meal. Staff are the best around, the owner too. Food is great value for the £. What’s not to like? Now a regular and my go to spot. Thank you everyone at the Ashville 🙏🏾

Absolutely love the steaks here and the Sunday Roast. Always amazing flavour and well cooked steaks ranging from 10oz to a whopping 96oz! 😲 The starters, sauces and side are all fantastic. I recommend the ribs and a portion of their giant onion rings. Also you'll struggle to find better triple cooked chips! We had between us... Starters: - BBQ Ribs Mains: - 36 oz T-Bone - 32 oz Tomahawks, I had truffle aioli with mine! Sides: Triple Cooked chips & Truffle parmesan - TCC - Mac & Cheese - Giant Onions Rings! - Salad Desserts: - Biscoff Cheesecake Sticky Toffee Pudds I've been here a fair bit and love the owners who care so much for the quality and service. I would 100% recommend you give it a try for a steak night with friend and family or for their Sunday Roast. Another enjoyable eating experience. Impressive venue, staff were lovely and welcoming. I went for mixed roast of pork loin, beef and lamb. Generally it was nice, pork loin crackling was crunchy however the loin was a little tough. Beef and lamb were nice and tender. Roast potatoes were crispy and fluffy in the middle. Yorkshire pudding was crispy but still tasted nice , along with the gravy, which was thick and flavoursome. Veg was spot on, special mention goes to the red cabbage and cauli cheese. The cheese to cauliflower ratio was was spot on.

We went as a family of 6 to celebrate a birthday. Starters were great hot tasty and plentiful. We all had steak I was the only one who had a fillet and it was without question the best I have ever had! Cooked perfectly melt in the mouth and just gorgeous. The sirloins were lovely also but 2 of us who had the rib-eye thought it was chewy and quite a lot of gristle hence not 5 stars. Desert was just gorgeous the cheesecake was delicious and the sticky toffee pud so light and fluffy We all had a lovely time and will definitely be visiting again soon. Great service and lovely staff too!

Very relaxed atmosphere. Great service. Lovely eclectic artwork and lighting. The best food we have eaten anywhere! I had the lamb main and my husband had the all meats burger, a side of onion rings and pigs in blankets, the food was outstanding! There was absolutely no issues to report, hence why we have given 5 stars. Looking around everyone appeared very happy with their food, lots of chat and laughter, all the food was freshly cooked and tasted amazing! I asked for no celeriac puree, the waiter asked if i liked carrot as they could swop the celeriac for carrot puree, which i was very happy with. I had 2 glasses of white wine and my husband had a pint of larger, the final bill was very reasonable for the meals, sides and drinks, it all came to £64, we left a tip and we haven't ever felt compelled to leave a tip in any other restaurant.

Wow,what a fantastic evening we had at this wonderful restaurant. Not only was the food first class,but the staff were so lovely and obliging. From the moment we arrived nothing was too much trouble.Everything we ate,was so tasty and enjoyable. James our waiter really looked after us.This restaurant really is a jewel in a crown.We will definitely be back.

Booked this so called steakhouse for my 40th birthday when we made our Order we asked that our steaks to be well done and cooked so there wasn’t any red meat as my girlfriend is pregnant when the food arrived it wasn’t what we asked for so asked again for it to be cooked longer when it came back it was the same basically raw when I asked for it to be cooked longer once again the manager or owner told me that is was well done and he’s a chef so I’m wrong and was very rude at this point I had enough and left without a meal and this ruined my birthday stay clear there’s much better places to go than this over priced pub grub

The best steak!!! The Ashville Steakhouse never disappoints. A must if you are around Bristol.

What an absolute sh^t show. The service/attitude from the Manager/head chef Sandor. We booked a table for 13 for a 40th birthday meal and on arrival he moaned when we put 4 balloons on the table. We also asked if he could put the birthday cake behind the bar for when we had finished our meal which he said we would have to do the cake first, who the hell has a cake before a meal. He changed his mind but then spent the rest of the evening staring at us with a face like thunder. We were told prior to booking any steaks over 12oz would have to be pre booked. 2 of us ordered the Wardy board which consists of 3 x 5oz steaks and 1 x 6oz steaks. They said we could not order it because it's weight combined was over 12oz(thats not stated in the T&C). Again he changed his mind and said he would do it this once whilst stood at the bar staring over looking miserable for the whole time we was there. The food wasn't too bad but the service was absolutely shocking. I'd never recommend or return to this place again.

Popped here last weekend for a roast dinner, and it was fantastic! Nice little pub just on the outskirts of town, tucked away! We all had different roasts, but they were all a great size and very tasty! Unfortunately we didn’t have time for a pud, but the Biscoff Cheesecake looked good! Would recommend for the roasts! Next time will try to go mid week for the steak

This steak house is worth crossing the river for (Bristolians will understand), the inside warmth, character and welcome make up for the stark exterior. There are plenty of staff so service is excellent. Food delicious, including very special lamb rump dish. Reasonably priced desserts with crowd pleasers (STP) and non alcoholic drinks which don't cost the earth. All in all a great place to visit but recommend booking!

My party of 24 visited The Ashville for a pre-theatre dinner, Across the 24 of us we ordered virtually everything on the non-steak menu - main course only - ALL of the dishes arrived within minutes of each other. Given the size of their kitchen - everything was cooked to perfection - and on time [we have a tight window]. The food and service was second to none - We'll be back soon! Thank you

Didn't eat here but booked a room upstairs room was fantastic clean tidy and well maintained had a few drinks at the bar staff was very nice and friendly helpful look forward to stop here again when I'm working down tjis way again very soon

Booked a table for 12.00hrs for Sunday lunch. Arrived at 11.45 to be greeted by a surely gentleman who said "We open at 12.00 and have a staff meeting before that". It was the first impression that only Basil Faulty could compete with. It was awkward so we offered to wait outside until 12.00 which they agreed to. It was cold and windy and if they did not want people arriving until 12.00 they should have kept he door locked. The food was OK although the portion size of the pork was 2 extremely thin slices. That will be my first and last visit.

We came just before christmas for a meal as we are currently working our way through all the restaurants of bristol. The food was outstanding but the service was terrible. Left waiting in a crammed little area by the bar as our table wasn't ready had to lean over people to pay for our drinks. Then we had food which was lovely. The steak was cooked to perfection and the side dishes were delicious, although we ordered desserts and instead of being told they were out of a certain cheesecake they brought out a completely different one which we didn't realise until we started eating and some on the table didnt like it. Asked for more drinks which we got told 'yeah yeah' and they never materialised, then got made to hurrily leave the table as the next group had arrived so had to stand back in the tiny bar area waiting for our bill so we could actually pay and leave. We understand if your busy and you need to clear the tables quickly but for how many tables you have shoved in such small areas and the prices that your customers are paying I really think you should think about taking less bookings and working on your customer experience slightly, then it really would be an excellent place to eat.

A little disappointed with the food, not as tasty as we'd been told. Venue was draughty and service wasn't very dynamic or fun.

The Asheville is a small local resteraunt with good food if your steak and burgers type of person the staff seem friendly enough and our server was attentive and let my wife have a wine taste before ordering. I had a nice onion soup to start and sirloin steak while my wife had a fillet which she thoroughly enjoyed. It was my birthday meal and I only have one gripe which is that we were about to order desert and who I can presume was the manager came over and told us that we had to leave the table because they needed it back and we could eat desert at the bar which we didn’t really want to do. he was a nice enough guy, I was a bit disappointed as our booking was 6:45 we were on time and got seated about 6:50pm then at 8:10pm asked to vacate because there were people waiting for the table which isn’t really enough time to enjoy all three courses so unfortunate I never did get to try the cheesecake. 😭. I can appreciate resteraunts need business but having people waiting at the bar for our table is a little off putting so had to get up and leave with our drinks. Not to let my experience put people off because I’m guessing you would get more time if there are more of you it’s not a negative review but I would of liked time for a desert and a coffee after instead of finishing my main then having to get up and leave the table. Unfortunately not just this one but a lot of resteraunts are going for foot fall than experience and this did spoil ours a little.

We been here a few times now and it never disappoints, a good relaxed pub atmosphere with outstanding food. At very reasonable prices a huge choice of steaks at different weights cooked perfectly. Also some really tasty looking sides. After trying most of the steakhouse in Bristol and some very good ones in London I have to say this place is up there with the best.

Had been looking at going here for some time. Visited on 22nd December and The food did not disappoint. The atmosphere is more relaxed and from the outside or area you would not expect such food. Service was really fast even though it was busy. The olives to start were really meaty and bit and the bread was fresh and soft. We ordered a wardy board to share with Mac and cheese and also some ribs. For sauces we went with peppercorn, Stilton and creamy mushroom. The steak were really nice and good quality and good variety. With the chips and cauliflower cheese everything complimented each other really well. Ribs didn’t feel the best of qualify felt like packet ones. We didn’t have dessert as it was quite busy and felt like we didn’t have enough time. Would definitely go back in quiter periods for the steak. The bill was really reasonably priced board line cheap compared to their steakhouses and also for the quality. It paid off going abit further out of town for the quality

My Ribeye was perfect, nearly forgot what a good steak tasted like, but this was a meal I would definitely return for, highly recommended.

In our opinion The Ashville is The Best Steak restaurant in Bristol. I have never had a bad meal. We had the Chateaubriand which was cooked superbly. Succulent and juicy. We had the red wine sauce, stilton sauce and garlic butter. The red wine sauce was irresistible. Our friends had a filet which again was fantastic. The starters were brie wedges scrumpy, olives big and juicy and a camembert which was delicious. Hospitality by Sandor and his staff is over and above.

What a gem, having already sampled there fantastic Sunday lunch, this included 3 vegans who enjoyed there lunch equally we decided to try the steaks out, we opted for the wardy board a sharing dish with a couple of sides. Every steak cooked to perfection and served by excellent and friendly staff, it won't be too long until we return for another visit.

Stayed at the B&B. I had a clean room, easy access great breakfast in the morning. Can't ask for more than that.

First visit to The Ashville after wanting to go for some time. Very nice relaxed setting, friendly staff The mixed steak platter was amazing, we asked for medium rare to rare cooking but did send back our two thickest steaks . But that was done with no fuss and we didn't feel like it was a problem at all, they were perfect when they came back, no mean feat as they could have easily gone the other way. Chips were yummy and particularly liked the beef dripping dip. Well done , we will definitely be returning 😊

Utterly rubbish. Maybe the locals accept sub standard food but it was over priced, over cooked junk. A steak house without a t bone? Come on. It's a steak house in name only, it's pub with a few low quality steaks on the menu. Kids food, it was burnt to a crisp Burger? Very very dry Peppercorn sauce? Never seen ot tasted something like it

Very good Sunday lunch had by the family. Food was great. The only downside to it was that they had run out a beer (not lager). So I had cider instead but love craft beer. Price was not expensive. We will return.

As always with the Ashville you enjoy a good meal but I must say on this occasion it was a fantastic meal, we took two friends of ours that hadn't visited there before, they loved it, as did I again. A fantastic ribeye with all the trimmings, cooked to perfection and I must admit it was so tasty. The service was excellent and to be fair, Sandros, the owner is such a nice guy, he really knows how to look after his customers. Thank you and see you soon

The food is flavoursome, and ok. Nothing outstanding. The service is ok, except our overall bill had the drinks from the next table added to ours. Thankfully we spotted it and it was quickly rectified. The staff let us bring our own birthday cake which was kind.

Best pub steak in town! Came here from a recommendation and it didn’t disappoint. Unfortunately couldn’t get a booking til late but is expected from a pub like this on a Friday night. We ordered 2 rib eyes that were seasoned to perfection with a fantastic choice of sauces to pair with it. We ordered a range of sides which had fantastic quality and could of been a dish on their own. Service was super friendly but toke us a while to get seated but unsurprising with the food quality. We made our way through their range of red wines which were all delicious and worked perfectly with the menu. Will be telling everyone I know about this place!!

Overrated and pricey, wouldn't go again to expensive for what you get. Food was ok, wasn't the best steak I've had, staff was ok we lost our nearly full bottle of wine, which was very annoying at £32 a bottle.

Food is always amazing! However on this occasion the service was not. Our food was brought out and nobody came back to check it was okay. The waitress with the piercings cleared my partners plates whilst I was still eating which I found very rude. She then continued to bring over a desert menu that we didn’t ask for whilst I was still eating my main course? Found this very rude like we were being rushed out. Safe to say we didn’t stay for desert. Would go back but would ask for a different waitress.

A few local Bristol city fans ruin it tbh it's a fantastic steak restaurant and a ok local pub. If it was bigger, I would suggest 2 rooms, one a restaurant for the amazing steaks and a bar in the other. It doesnt really work as both. By far the best steaks I've ever had the best in Bristol. Your not ripped off like in Miller & Carter.

I have been to The Ashville on several occasions and have always been pleased with the food and service. However, this time - bringing my family visiting from Mexico - I was deeply disappointed. We were seated on time but the table was not set and nothing appeared to be ready. We waited for almost 10 minutes whilst noting that larger group of seven had their table prepared. Once their table was set one of the waitresses handed us the menus but showed no knowledge of our preorder despite arranging it over a month in advance. She had to check (a further 5 minutes) and confirmed that they had our preorders. After choosing our starters, we decided to order them first and then our mains. The reason for this was that only I spoke both Spanish and English so needed to time to translate the menu. Shortly after the waitress took our order for starters, a senior member of staff - possibly the owner - interrupted us and asked us to order everything at the same time effectively giving us a time limit to finish. He even asked us if we had a problem with this which we felt was unnecessary and rude. When we eventually received cutlery, it was literally dropped onto our table on a plate with three serviettes for five people. Our main course was served after 1 hour and 16 minutes which we felt was excessive particularly as we were persuaded to order everything at the same time. When the food did arrive, the steaks were overcooked (medium requested) and one of the sauces forgotten.

Simply beautiful I had the 22oz t-bone it was cooked to perfection we've been many times before and they never disapoint highly recommend 😃
