Went as family group of 6 pm 21 April. Was busy but obviously not catered for people. Food fine and special mention to the great guy carving the meat on carvery very friendly and polite credit to him. Rest of staff fine tho needed more training I think. We left after waiting a very long time for any food to arrive and after ordering desserts and waiting 45 mins gave up and paid and left. Seems no one like a manager overseeing. Had to wait to get 4 roasts as apparently waiting for more Yorkshire's - which didn't appear so 2 of party had almost finished mains before we started. Shame as nice place And previous visit was fine. Singer not needed either too loud. Please sort out service

We ordered starters and some menu dinners and a few carvery roasts. We were told that they would let us know when the menu mains were nearly ready so those who were having carvery could get it at the same time. 4 Starters took almost an hour to come out. Later the two menu meals arrived without notice. Those having carvery were then turned away at the counter because there wasn't enough food. When we were recalled, there was a single Yorkshire pudding left, some empty trays on the hotplate and no gravy etc. After the meal we ordered 4 desserts which still hadn't arrived over 40 mins later - so we cancelled them and left more than a little disappointed with the whole visit We had high hopes after seeing all the good reviews but sadly we can't agree with them. The food we did get was largely nice. Ignoring simple things like burnt ciabatta with the soup - which should never have left the kitchen.

Gone down hill. Waited 45 mins for starters then about same for mains was told that we would be told when two who weren't having carvery meals were ready so we could get carvery, didn't happen. Went to get carvery were told needed more Yorkshire's they never appeared. Staff although lovely didn't seemed trained properly no one checked why we wAited so long , ordered desserts and gave up waiting after 45 mins, it was busy initially didn't seem any real management . Shame as previous visit very good and food fine . Was a birthday treat so a let down. May be an off day

We found this dog friendly pub by accident after our Hotel Chef wasn’t available for the evening meal. Found the staff friendly and very helpful. The Squid starter was excellent and the Sirloin Steak was cooked to perfection. Whilst my wife could have Cheese Soufflé starter, the Belly Pork more than made up for that. Two satisfied and very full customers. Maybe lunch tomorrow before setting off for home? 😂👍😎

Very busy when we visited, but the staff were very friendly and made us aware that the food may take longer. Fabulous food!!

Haven't visited the pub in many years but it made a convenient meeting point for a group of friends. Lovely welcome, good food and service. We'll be back.

I was visiting from out of town and found this place by chance and so glad I did as someone who travels regularly I have to say I received some of the best customer service I’ve ever encountered from a young lady with brown hair and a beige cardigan unfortunately I didn’t catch her name, she went above and beyond to deliver exemplary service and is an absolute credit to the angel if only there was more staff that took pride in there jobs and people skills like she did I would definitively recommend stopping by if your in the area.

Andy and the team went above and beyond with great customer service skills. The team were friendly, respectful, and polite. We had soft music playing in the background and a large selection of hot and cold buffet food, desserts, cakes, etc. The Angel is clean, tidy, and tastfully decorated and great for all ages, couples, parties etc Thank you for all your hard work today!

Attended a wake here but food and service excellent

Visited on mother's day (10/03/24) , greeted with complimentary glass of prosecco for both me and my mum . We all had the carvery , each of us having a different meat (gammon, turkey and beef) with mam asking for a child's portion as she doesn't eat as much as she used to; well the only difference (apart from being almost half the price) was that she got two slices of meat and we had three . Great choice of veg , all beautifully cooked al dente and not soggy / overcooked. Staff were extremely pleasant and helpful . Definitely value for money . It was my first visit and , hopefully, not my last

Massive fall from grace here, not sure if there’s new ownership but definitely a change of attitude. Prices have increased, quality of food has gone down. Only time in my life I’ve had to send back a dish, as the curry special was horrendous (incredibly tough chicken and a block of rice that you could stab with your fork and lift up the whole lot.) not an overstatement to say a microwaveable curry from a supermarket would have been better. I was up all night, and everyone else had a different dish and was fine so seems there’s more to the curry than just being bad! Besides one waitress, the rest of the staff were rude throughout too. Not typical of The Angel we’ve known previously! The Angel used to be our favourite place to go, but I’d now not recommend after our experience last night.

Lovely friendly local pub, so nice to move to an area with such a great pub, excellent food with great choice, staff always happy and nice family atmosphere.

Very cosy in winter with open fires, choice of real ales. Usually, prompt and cheerful bar service. Ample parking. Haven't eaten here fir a couple of years but it's usually busy.

Lovely pub. Food was tasty but dont waste your money on the Starters they are tiny..one thin kofta kebab sausage cut into 4 with half a small pitta bread ...

Table for 6 for a valentines day lunch. Super welcome and freindly staff. 5 meals all good, fish and chips, ceaser salad, hunters chicken, ham egg and chips and a spicy bean burger. Unfortunately the lamb shoulder was not so good but staff offered a replacement and took the item off the bill. We were very impressed. Plenty of parking and a real fire.

Deservedly popular for the excellent Guinness they serve. Decent playlist. Clean, stylish, easy going, good staff, good menu good snug with proper fire.

Lovely meal with group of friends last night. 11 of us, so preordered from a good selection. Food was delicious, service was attentive but not intrusive. Many thanks.

Very nice little pub just down the road from the hotel we stayed so we gave it a try and left very impressed. Good good and friendly team.

Held my Dad's 80th Birthday Party at The Angel just after Christmas and it was fantastic! The Staff were outstanding, couldn't do enough for us from start to finish. Plenty of tables and room for everyone to sit. We had the luxury buffet which was very reasonable and the food was great quality. Several of the guests contacted us the next day to say what a wonderful time they had had! Thank you Andy and the team!

We were a big party (18) we pre ordered, no problem with that. However, the food was ordinary a lot was bought in not made in house. A shame considering the bill was fairly high.

The Jazz night was absolutely brilliant. We go each month. I recommend it to everyone

We had booked a table for two but were met with surprise when we turned up. The staff were slow to take our orders even though the pub was quiet in the afternoon.

Amazing place to eat and have a few drinks. The staff are all so lovely too. One of our favourite places to go.

The food is delicious and every time we've gone here the service has been really good. The prices are very reasonable. I would definitely recommend.

Had a lovely evening meal with a friend at the Angel. Loads of options (including vegetarian). Plenty of party. Staff were attentive and friendly.

We went as a family for the curry special night on the Thursday. We were very much looked after by the whole staff who took pleasure in making us feel welcome. First time I had been there and will defo go again. The 4 course curry special was so nice! Spicy as expected!!!!! Have been there again since for a drink and was served without issue by the lush fireplace. Nice and warm! Will be rocking up there again soon!

Had fish & chips not brilliant, tartare sauce no flavour to it at all.

Just wanted a simple veggie roast with all the trimmings. Received a pile of either Aunt Bessie's or Brake Bros. potatoes and Yorkshire pudding. Big pile of al dente veg, which wasn't an issue. Tasty beef gravy....and a freezing cold nut roast. I had put a lot of English mustard on the nut roast before I realised it was cold. It was so chilled that I panicked and spat it back on the plate. When I brought it to the serving staff's attention they apologized and took it back to the kitchen. It came back a few minutes later, with congealed mustard and the food that I'd spat out, now piping hot. I felt so sick that I refused anything else on the menu, having been told it would take a long time to prepare another nut roast. Come on guys! I've been coming here for years. You know you can do better.

The menu looked great, however sadly my chosen food item wasn't available on the day. I order a different item instead which was delicious!

Had an absolutely amazing time with the Mrs both our meals were spot on couldn't fault one bit we also shared the sticky toffee pudding and was amazing would highly recommend to anyone wanting a hearty pub meal and the prices are more than generous ....Will definitely be back soon 😀 the service was really friendly and felt welcomed as soon as we walked in

Just been for Sunday lunch. The food was delicious, the staff were really lovely and there was a lovely atmosphere. We had the carvery and desserts.

A superb dinner at sensible prices unlike the nearby Rowbarge where I went last night. Excellent spicy bruschetta. Sumptuous roast beef with trimmings and tastily presented ice cream. Good hit coffee too. The Rowbarge has a river alongside while the Angel only has the A4 but there’s no doubt where to eat!

Dropped by for a Sunday carvery, despite the rain, it was still a pleasant afternoon, we sat out back under a large gazebo style shelter as it was still warm out. Lunch was a carvery style affair and was also cooked to perfection (for me), definitely would go again.

Attended a wake. Provided catering. Fill rolls, quiche, sausage rolls, chips, samosa, and more. Plenty of tea and coffee. Staff friendly and sympathetic to our needs

Excellent meal, lovely staff, great prices. If I had to make a tiny weeny complaint it would be it wasn’t hot but that’s just me. The gravy was to die for!!

Staff were very helpful and the food was fantastic.

Generally staff wasn't welcoming and dare I say it seemed aggressive when I came in for a drink after work and just wanted to check out the place. The mood seemed down and depressive I the pub and resy. it's a shame as I remember a time when it wasn't so. Generous serving of roasted peanuts with your drink though, almost a meal.

Lovely lunch with family. Friendly service and great food. I have been on a Sunday for carvery and also during the week and both times the roast dinner was lovely! My mum said it was the best goats cheese and onion tart she ever had! We enquired about a family function while we were there and Andy could not have been more helpful. Finally, fantastic vegetarian options

Felt very unwelcome as soon as we walked in to the pub. A lady asked us if we had pre-booked even though we called ahead and were told you couldn’t. Less than mediocre carvery roast dinner. Completely inedible… frozen, manufactured rubbish. Do not order the carvery!

We came here without a reservation and although it was quite full for a mid-week evening, they found us a nice table. There is a typical pub-menu with a couple of extra delicious meals to chose from. We have been here a few times and again we were not disappointed.

Email below sent the same evening on 27/07 once we got home & exactly a week later we’ve heard nothing! Good Evening, I telephoned this evening at 5pm to check what meats were on the carvery today & if the restaurant was fully booked or if we needed to book a table. A man answered the phone & told me what meats were available on the carvery today & informed me that the restaurant wasn’t busy, so based on that we decided to leave home in Thatcham & make our way to the Pub. We arrived to be greeted by a lady who asked us if we had a table booked, we said no & she then said “Just drinks then?”…..it was as if the pub was full which it wasn’t, we said no we want food & phoned earlier to check, the reply we got was “so you have booked then?!” to which we replied that we hadn’t but the lady promptly seated us at table 13 so we thought all was well. The taller of the 2 waitresses came & took our drinks order, we informed her that we’d be going up to the carvery for which she replied the carvery was closed today but they were still serving the carvery…..slightly puzzled as nobody informed us of this on the phone we decided to stay for which was essentially a plated meal & not a carvery. The plated carvery arrived & straight away I said to the shorter waitress who brought the meal to our table that it would have to go back as I didn’t eat any of the mixed veg that was on my plate, a mixture of cauliflower, carrots, & cabbage…..had we been able to go up to the carvery I wouldn’t have chosen these, had we been informed what the veg was or even asked I would have also said but there was no communication. The waitress promptly took my plate back to the kitchen & returned with the veg replaced on my plate for mixed carrots & peas which I was ok. We weren’t asked if we wanted any sauces or condiments so my partner asked for some mustard for myself & the waitress just charged off without asking if we wanted anything else so when she returned my partner asked for some Cranberry sauce & she huffed & stormed off! The table behind asked for the bill & when she brought it to the table the lady offered her card but the same waitress wasn’t listening & just stormed off again! No attention to detail or customer service at all! The taller waitress came over & asked if everything was ok & we advised her that no it wasn’t & explained about the waitress etc, she then had the audacity to stand at the serving station with the other waitress talking about us! The quality of the food was extremely poor hence we both left over half a plate each, my beef was dry & tasted like it was out of a packet, our potatoes were hard on the outside like they had been refried in the deep fat fryer, peas were like bullets & carrots wilted with no flavour, my partners veg was over cooked, to then be asked by the taller waitress was everything ok & we said no not really she then asked if we wanted desserts to which we replied no we’d rather stop off at Sainsbury’s & get something! She then tried to persuade us again & we said no. We decided to leave & pay the bill only to be insulted with no offer of a discount, free drinks or an apology for the service & quality of food, £35.20 for 2 carvery meals (which were plated & not a carvery meal) & 2 drinks seemed extremely poor value for money when we could have & have had better at the Toby Carvery for the same money! The Angel has always produced a good quality & value for money Carvery with good service to which we’ve always recommended to family, friends & colleagues & the fact that it’s local with local produce compared to a standard chain has always been a preference for us, today’s quality & service was extremely disappointing & below the standard we have come to expect from the Angel. We really felt cheated & left hungry! Neither of us will be in a hurry to rush back if at all & we certainly will not be recommending you. I hope you can take our feedback on board & turn it into something positive! Kind Regards

I have even going to the rum and reggae for the last 3yrs but will not be going again..this yr was rum and scar. We always bring between 15 and 20 people. Very let down and the manager didn't seem bothered..not enough staff either.

Food was amazing. Was a quality roast dinner. Love the fact they do carvery everyday. And not the mention the portion size for the price I paid was outstanding. Also thank you to Keira for the wonderful service. Will be back soon.

hello, we were treated unfairly, we were visiting friends in Midgham and we took the kids for ice cream, the banana mess dessert turned out to be a scoop of ice cream with a banana, although the description still says sprinkles, whipped cream. The lady didn't offer anything else, she didn't say there were no ingredients. If this is how they treat foreigners there, I do not recommend it.

A great stopover pub and restaurant. The carvery is really good and more than you can eat.

The Angel hosted our wedding reception on Saturday 17th June and our review is perfect. We really couldn't have asked for more. Everything was just spot on as I imagined and knew it would be. They catered for 50 people with a full on carvery and deserts. The food came out presented beautifully and promptly. The service was amazing. We had a buffet for another 50 guests on top in the evening and again the Angel delivered a beautiful buffet with hot and cold food which our guests loved. With a special thank you to Sandra, Alan, Andy and all the team who went above and beyond to make our day so special in every way. Ian & Sharon.

I love the angel, I’ve been here several times and it never disappoints! The food is amazing (the nachos are out of this world) the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. We set up weddings and parties here regularly and it is always goes so smooth due to everyone being so organised and helpful.

Very clean and friendly country pub that's popular for food! A great stopping point between Douai Abbey and Midgham railway station.

The staff were fantastic at this place very helpful and accomodating of our 5 year old who accidently spilled her drink. Very happy with how they acted with it all and will be back again. The food was also lovely and it is located in a very lovely little place.

We have been to the Angel several times for lunch and it's always a pleasurable experience ,staff are very welcoming.The menu is varied and well priced ,always enjoy their baguettes with fries and lovely salads ,all very fresh ,very tasty and excellent value Looking forward to next visit !

Visited today with friends for the first time. Great pub with friendly staff and a great Sunday carvery. Well worth the money. We sat out in the garden which is kept lovely with plenty of benches for family’s and friends. Will recommend to friends who may be passing Woolhampton in there narrowboats. Such good value for money. Thank you to everybody.

First impressions were good. I had a pre ordered meal that wasn't available on the day. I had fish and chips as a replacement and it was a dreadful meal. The batter was very hard and over cooked almost inedible There appeared to be little concern when I mentioned it when my plate was cleared as it was obvious I had eaten very little of it. I must say though the meals my fellow diners had looked good as wS my starter soup

We attempted to book a table for a group of 7 with a weeks notice, but we’re told they don’t have tables that big, and pushing tables together to accommodate a larger group is *something they don’t do*

Good service and good food sums up our experience quickly. We had a few dietary requirements and the staff were happy to accommodate them all. It's a dog friendly pub and the staff were also aware when we mentioned we had reactive dogs and followed our guidance when attending to us.

The carvery is not what we thought ...we were very disappointed the service was abrupt .we normally y go to the Rowbarge but thought we would give this place a go but we won't be back ..

Nice venue, but our table was not very well lit up as the overhead light was broken. The food was ok, but the carvery option wasn't great. Service was a little abrupt at times and there was no drinks menu to choose from.

Acceptable but not 'good'. Nachos werent particularly cheesy (believe it or not). apparently no marie rose sauce on the prawn cocktail (would have sent it back if mentioned to me) Mains were beef wellington which was again, just okay. Overcooked (fully brown) but still tender and relatively flavourful. Just not particularly special! Service was a bit curt from some servers. Wouldn't personally recommend but could have been a bad night.

We were a group of 6 and between us had 4 different meals and we were all pleased with our choices. Service was good despite the place being pretty packed - this was on Thursday lunchtime so it's obviously very popular. My dessert of apple tart was the best I have had for some time, excellent. Thanks to all concerned.

Warm welcome, good food, great value, nice drinks. Would go back.
