My wife and I have just been for our tea and wow,the service was absolutely brilliant with the staff behind the bar and the staff out front of house.the bar person was spot on so helpful and attentive thank you for that, but the waitress was first class. Charlotte was in a league of her own the way she helped me with my food order and looked after us what a lovely lady.top marks too all the staff there many thanks to you all.

Wonderful venue and amazing staff. Brian served our usual round of drinks as we arrived at our pre booked table. Fabulous service by both brian and Jack as always

Visited for a mini first aid course and decided to lunch here afterwards. We ordered prawn ciabatta from the lunch menu with what we believed would have Marie Rose sauce. When our lunch came the ciabatta had 9prawns on a lettuce leaf and what we believed to be salsa on it. I queried at the bar that we had wrong food but was told they use a spicy tomato sauce in the Marie rose and our food was correct. We ate the chips, wiped the sauce off the prawns and and left the rest. When our table was cleared we did comment that the food was very poor, apology given. No offer of would we like anything else. We wouldn't eat here again. Sorry

Met for a Birthday lunch meal with family. I wanted a prawn wrap instead of a ciabatta and it came on what looked like a stale pitta bread, there was no prawn cocktail sauce just what tasted like spicy tomato salsa, and the prawns were big and chewy like they had just been defrosted. My husband had the two course offer, macaroni cheese, which was in a very small dish and was definately a packet pasta variety with no cheese on and cold dry garlic bread. My son had a very dry chicken dish and his girlfriend had sausage and mash, again the mash was definately from a packet. The chocolate orange sponge was dry and on all the puddings the ice cream had melted to nothing before we got them. Definately will not eat there again.

Attended an 18th party on Saturday the pub was down bar staff and down in the kitchen the two lads who where left to deal with a packed out pub deserve a raise Alex&Jack fair play boys you where flat out kept your cool and manged to end the night with out kicking us all out I tip my hat too you guys well played thanks for putting up with us 👍🏻

Excellent lunch. Made even better by Jack who had our usual drinks ready at the bar for us. He was his usual friendly and happy self who made our regular Friday visit even more enjoyable 😉

If you want cold food served by uninterested staff, the. You won’t be disappointed. We went fir lunch , one ordered soup and a toasted ciabatta, the other hunters chicken off the Ember Classics menu. The soup was cool , the ciabatta similar. No spoon fir the soup, no knife for the butter, The hunters chicken came dry, no bbq sauce. When we took it to the waiter and enquired where the bbq sauce was, we were told it was “inside the chicken “ . Interesting, and of course it wasn’t. The ( dry) chicken was warm, not hot - the chips similar. After a while (it wasn’t particularly busy) a waiter eventually came to us and asked were we enjoying our meal , my husband told him he was eating it as quickly as he could as it had arrived luke warm. The waiter nodded , said - oh it’s not hot ….and wandered off, never to return. Absolute not interested- of course he want , they make you pay before the food is served. Dreadful lunch, no atmosphere, waiters not interested. Woukdnt go back again!

Opted for the Wednesday curry night. Good chicken curry with rice, poppadoms and nan bread. Plenty of chicken and tasty. Hubby had rogan josh not a lot of lamb. Friendly service from Laura. Next time we would book as I think a drink is included according to website

me and my boyfriend came the other day for food we both had the cheese and bacon burger it was delicious! hannah was very nice and made the experience there fantastic we really enjoyed it and will definitely be back soon!!

This was a super fun night, always great entertainment and the bar staff are lovely. We had some delay on food but the staff offered us a free round and Hannah saw to it amazingly. Great customer service and great environment.

We’ve ordered from here a few times via Deliveroo and the first couple of times were absolutely fine and the food was great, the last 3 times have been awful! Mainly due to the orders being wrong, due to allergies the burger has been ordered plain which is clearly on the deliveroo receipt attached to the bag but every time the pub gets it wrong - honestly it’s like they plaster extra sauce on so the person can’t eat it and end up just having chips! it’s also previously done this with others items so I wouldn’t recommend ordering through delivery Apps.

Food was ok but it was freezing in the pub , couldn't wait to get home to get warm,had to eat with my jacket on,we asked if heating was on just got a smile, people near us also asked and didn't get an answer,

Came today with my 3 and 1 year old and their grandma for lunch before we went to Kinderhub next door. I always feel anxious about taking them out in case of tantrums etc as they are so little and obviously no concept of how to conform socially in that environment but knew it was a family friendly pub. Ordered them meals off kids menu and the staff kindly accepted requests to serve on a plate to cool quicker. The food was fine and as you’d expect for the venue and price. After eating the kids got restless and had had enough of colouring. I decided to let my 1 yr old stretch her legs and the eldest followed. It was a quiet day and only a few tables seated. They were walking round the entrance and looking at fruit machines. Other diners commented how cute my little girl was toddling as she was learning to walk. My eldest had a quick cheeky dash behind the bar when no staff were there and I quickly called him back. An older man then spoke to me as we passed his table on way to get our coats and asked that I take my children elsewhere as they were trying to have a quiet meal. I commented the children had been seated and quiet all thoroughout waiting for and eating their meal and that is was a family friendly pub serving kids meals. His response was that it was a restaurant with a bar (I would dispute) and that I should take them next door. I commented I was but it wasn’t yet open and there is nowhere to wait or play outside as the pub nor next door has outdoor play areas. He commented I should leave and I was very upset and shocked. I informed the male and female staff and they were lovely, they commented the children had not bothered them and offered them halloween sweets and encouraged us to stay. I have been left upset and ruminating on this all day as it is already stressful thinking about taking little ones out when you never know how they’ll manage these types of environments and I would rather let them explore safely with me than sit on screens. The pub was very quiet which is also why I allowed this. However it was very much helped by the kind staff and the gesture of the sweets left me feeling welcome and I would definitely return so thank you

A late afternoon/ very early evening meal. We ordered via the QR code on the table, although you can order at the bar if you prefer! Our meals took less than 20 minutes to be served. They were hot and enjoyable and in nice comfortable surroundings. There was a good choice of cask conditioned ales and other drinks available. Would definitely recommend it.

We arrived around 1:45pm on Sunday. The pub wasn’t too busy, which made the long wait of over 45 minutes for the food inexcusable. When the good was brought out it did not match the description on the menu with several items missing. When we queried this, some but not all, of the items were brought out in separate bowls and we did receive an apology. Having said that the food was well cooked and tasty. It was a shame that one of the waitresses was making an awful noise sliding chairs and tables across the floor, making everyone cringe!

We had a table booked for 7 30 to celebrate my brother's belated 60th. The service was so poor and so slow. Food was bland when it finally came. We did not get our main until 9pm. To add to this a member of our party had ordered a additional dish it never came with no explanation. They may have been short staffed but customer service needs to improve.

Husband ordered mixed grill, I had a selection of startes, and daughter had a munchie sundae. Husband said it's one of the best mixed grills that he has had at the Oak for a long time, and finished everything (this is unusual as he normally leaves various items which we take home and the dog eats well) Daughter said her munchie sundae also had flake in it, which she didn't mind, however was this a substitute for munchie pieces? My combo starters, 2/3 were great. The mushrooms are too oily, not sure what the fix is here, but they were light, not too hot, and mushrooms inside were well cooked. Only slight gripe, we didn't get a check-back. We were asked when collecting our plates if "everything was ok, and asked to leave a review" it's too late at this point to fix any problems. Check-backs should shortly follow delivering the meals.

Food took a while to come but Oliver, the young lad serving was doing a fantastic job. He was the only one on for quite a while and was running himself ragged. Turned out it was his first night out on the floor and he did an incredible job. Food was good too

Lovely atmosphere reasonable prices for good food and super friendly staff. Would definitely recommend for a lazy day lunch with the family (not gone on a night out so can't comment but seems like a nice beer garden to do that in as well! 😁)

Came to the craft fair at the weekend. Picked up a great graze box from the fair. I then went for lunch and had a lovely meal with my family. All the food was fresh and there wasn't much left at the end. We will return soon.

Wouldn’t bother, got my starter wrong and it wasn’t what was on the menu.. I wouldn’t ever go back the food was bland and nothing to write home about.. I’d rather pay more somewhere else for some decent tasteful food.

Visited the ancient oak with my parents this afternoon, fist occasion out together after the lifting of restrictions. What a disappointment. Had been warned by several friends about time it takes to receive drinks/food etc.We sat at the table just under an hour without receiving our drinks. I chased them up three times with the same member of staff whom never got back to me. Didn't seem bothered to be fair (think he was happier on furlough getting paid to do nowt!!) complained to manager and low and behold drinks arrived short afterwards. Pointed out to manager the poor service from previously mentioned staff member, don't think he was bothered either. Food arrived within good time and I couldn't fault that. But the day had been spoiled. Very poor attitude and service. Won't be returning.

The Ancient Oak catered a function for my family (50 people) at reasonably short notice. The room was big enough for everyone to be seated. The staff were friendly, flexible & worked incredibly hard.The food however was exceptional. Not only was there plenty of it but it catered to every pallet & was the best we've ever encountered at a function. Everyone went back for seconds & many of our guests commented that it was the most wonderful buffet they'd ever eaten. If we have to cater another event in the future we won't hesitate in using The Ancient Oak's services.

Have visited several times and always have a pleasant experience. The team were helpful and explained all the new guidelines. We used the app to order, was easy to use. All food and drinks arrived quickly. I had the lasagne which was hot and tasty, and the caramel profiteroles for dessert which were delicious. Been in for just drinks in the past too, always a nice atmosphere and the team are always polite and friendly.

We go to the ancient oak several times in the week and have a night out some weekends. The service is always brilliant and the food and drinks are great! Definitely recommend if you are looking for a nice pub to eatKeep it up guys!

Came into the pub for a family meal and after over an hour I’d counted a total of 1 staff. Made a point of asking his name (Patrick) as the poor lad was rushed off his feet looking after the bar as well as serving food. He did a remarkable job on his own but at times people were waiting a fair amount of time at the bar whilst he served food. Turns out he had a manager working too but absolutely nowhere to be seen.... cynic in me says probably exploiting their position and the poor lad can do the running around whilst they ‘are in the office doing paperwork’ yes I did enquire where his help was .... and to pre empt I’m just one of those complainers, first post ever but felt it was warranted and hopefully the landlord/ lady picks it up

Visited here before for drinks in the summer so we decide to try here for food. It seemed really nice so I had high expectations of the food. Unfortunately a lot of it was really disappointing.I ordered the salt and pepper calamari for a starter. When it arrived it wasn’t salt and pepper calamari at all. It was bog standard strips of breaded calamari just out of a bag, thrown in the fryer with no seasoning at all. It really set the meal off to a bad start. I couldn’t eat it and had to give it to my girlfriend. The main of chicken and ribs was actually great. The pudding was nice just a really small portion.I will say that the staff were nice and the service was great but the awful starter really soured the meal and the minuscule dessert didn’t help. Wouldn’t come back.

Been here a couple of times, and really enjoyed, apart from one member of staff, who needs to learn more customer service! On today’s visit hubby ordered a mixed grill with 4oz steak, when it arrived, there one no way it was 4oz, it looked like scrag end,Hubby couldn’t eat it, it was over cooked and full of fat!we complained to staff, twice before she said do you want me to tell the chef? Yes! But no come back, what a shame, have to look for another eatery..

Dined here with family - one had the pie; one had the hunters chicken, and one had a rump steak. All very good. the other three had hotpots, which were a disaster. circa £10.00 for a few slices of potato and hardly any meat is NOT value for money, by any stretch of the imagination. I understand the Pub buys these in - and if so, the supplier needs changing - and fast. A pity that these ruined the meal, as the other diners were quite satisfied. Service good, and staff friendly and keen to help.

Dined here with family recently. Food certainly an improvement over previous experiences, and long may that continue. Plentiful courses, and very tasty. Served in timely fashion, Undoubtedly value for money.

Kitchen already closed at 9pm when we arrived at the pub for food (when supposed to be open til 10pm)! Chefs still present however no offer made to serve us meals.

This was our first visit having recently moved to Preston and we had high expectations. Had Sunday lunch, three of us had the three roast option, one the turkey breast. The meat on all meals was very good. However the roast potatoes and vegetables looked and tasted as if they had been reheated from the previous day. We were eating at 12.30pm so fully expected everything to be freshly cooked, how wrong we were.

Came for tea on a busy summer holiday evening. Bar staff looked absolutely shafted, management need to look carefully at the rota otherwise they’re screwing their staff, there were only 2 on tonight. Food took ages but was absolutely beautiful (your vegan menu is fit) but there were only 2 chefs in the kitchen. Sort the rota out!Big props to the bar and kitchen staff for sticking to it in this heat.

Haven't visited here for three years after writing a critical review, and getting the bog standard, insincere, apology. of "sorry about your experience. We;ll pass on your comments to the kitchen staff, and hope you visit us again soon.".

A group of us visited one Friday night for some fizz and nibbles so literally ordered starters and sharing platters to snack on. We normally frequent it’s sister pub, the Black Bull but fancied a change. The pub wasn’t busy so didn’t expect the kitchen to struggle with such a basic order. Drinks were fine and the bar staff were pretty friendly. When the food came we were pretty disappointed as how can you go wrong with nachos, chicken wings, and falafels? Half the nachos were burnt and came with the smallest amount of sour cream and dips. The chicken wings were tasty but a little dry and the falafel looked like it was radioactive. We munched our way though it but it has put me off ever returning for a proper main course. If they can’t get snacks right, what must the rest of their food be like. Unfortunately, I’ll never know...... Such a shame as the pub itself has quite a nice atmosphere and if you fancy a quiet drink then would be OK. Will stick to the Black Bull in future.

My husband and myself went to The Ancient Oak last night for tea. I had the half chicken and my husband had a pie ( not sure which). There was plenty on the plate and the food was delicious. Good value for money. We will go back again.

Use the Ancient Oak regularly as it's on walking paths and the Guild Wheel. Great stop off point for a snack and a drink. Feels like a country pub but us is fact in the middle of the Cottam estate. Huge inside with a kids area at the back - it's a proper family pub. Clean and tidy as it should be. I enjoy the outside area when the Sun is out. Nothing fancy. Relaxing, comfortable, atmosphere inside.

What a great place to come and eat with the family. Friendly staff and great prices we will be back.

I absolutely love this place, me and my girlfriend(sometimes the lil’ one too) go here at least once a month even if we live in Lytham St Annes. Great food, lovely atmosphere. Team members always nice and friendly.Totally recommend!

Since my last review I've been working away from preston. However last week I returned to see family and they said 'it's good, aimed at the right crowd'. Well, if only I'd realised they'd been winding me up, we walked in and to my shock what seemed like ever chair from a high table was nowhere near a table, instead they were all at bar, filled with an interesting crowd who seemed to care not if anyone could get to bar, or god forbid try to use card readers, mind one seemed a keen glass collector. So having walked basically to kitchen to find a bit of bar not filled by someone on a chair we ordered. During our visit we chatted with some locals who said this bar issue is the way it is now, and whilst they've tried complaining to management they've been ignored. All about the money I suppose.

My wife & I went to the Ancient Oak for lunch on Tuesday last, I had an offer from the pub of 40% off the price of main meals which only applied for the 1st & 2nd of April. It was a good job as I believe that it would have been an expensive lunch without the discount.

Met up with a fri nd and her and her husband go frequently. The landlord\manager who served me was helpful, friendly and courteous. The ambiance was lovely and the food and service was great. Would defiantly recommend this lovely pub.

We had such a good time last night in the Ancient Oak. All 6 of us enjoyed our meals and the staff, who were extremely busy were polite and helpful. Download the Ember Inns app, I was able to claim a free bottle of prosecco as it was my birthday! Well worth a visit.

This is the third consecutive year we have booked Christmas dinner here and have never been disappointed . A party of 20 of us thoroughly enjoyed the day .. The food was exceptional ,the service was brilliant and the staff very accommodating and friendly .. Family get together and an on spec visit to this excellent establishment.The place was busy but the staff welcomed us (a party of 7), found us a table and took our drinks and food orders in a very friendly fashion.

Never really been a fan of this place but came anyway for tea as we were stopping over at family’s house nearby. The pub was quiet, mainly drinkers in. Ordered drinks & food. Starter cleared and mains came out not long after, asked for fish & chips which tasted awful I left 3/4 of it as each mouthful all’s I could taste was dirty fryer oil. No flavour at all & very lightly battered too. My wife ordered rump steak medium well, which I repeated at the till. It was rare as they come, chef probably forgot about it and put it on the grill last minute. Vinegar bottles were vile, clearly no one checks the condiments otherwise they’d have seen the fermented curdled vinegar bottle. The manager refunded the meals but still felt like the whole thing had been ruined, we were both starving! The Black Bull is much better in terms of food quality.
