The Anchor Inn in Hastings

Thank you to the Anchor for choosing us a great table for our family gathering Could not fault the service, the food (proper home made food) , the atmosphere (and the price) We will be back!!

Been to anchor a few times came here for lunch on Saturday with my nephew and his wife the food and the atmosphere was brilliant, the guvnor is a great guy you can have a laugh with, we enjoyed it so much that we are back again this Saturday with our daughter her husband and grandson 10 out of 10

Lovely pub. We went in as there was an open fire and looked cosy. We had lunch (seafood chowder) and it was delicious. Friendly staff and well priced.

Passed this pub many times and decided it was time to go in. We were not disappointed. Well kept beer, Shepherd Neame, hubby was delighted to find Late Red on tap. The food specials were home made, we had liver and bacon and stuffed hearts. So nice to have totally different meals on a menu and they were excellent. Took us back to our childhood days with offal now generally being out of favour. We will return

Visited on a cold and wet Wednesday lunchtime, delicious home cooked food, great service and a wonderful drinks selection

End of August 2024. Once again in Hastings, once again in its beautiful old town! And the Anchor Inn is one of them! In 2009 we were in England for the first time - in Hastings! And our first English beer was a SHEPHERD NEAME Spitfire! And that's what's served here! A wonderful pub! Please come in!

Lovely pub with lovely friendly staff will be back

lovely friendly pub in the old town. went for lunch and ordered the cromer crab salad with new potatoes it was very tasty. polite staff and prompt service. should we come back to hastings again this will be our first port of call for food.

Were here for dinner. Service was good, just showed up when we needed it. Also all the dishes were just really good. Made from fresh ingredients and served like art.

Had some drinks with some friends and watched the football, unfortunately England were rubbish but thankfully the anchor was amazing, friendly staff and very welcoming.

A pub located in Old Town Hastings which we had lunch at. The food was very good (chicken breast and chips), and craft ales and cider were perfect companions for this meal. Thanks

Popped in for a Sunday dinner. There was only roasts on the menu. But one of the best pub dinners we have had in ages. 10 out of 10.

Me, my father and my 15 year old daughter sat down on the terrace outside for a drink. My daughter and I walked in to order, but it turned out we were sitting on the terrace of the pub opposite, so we had to be across the street. This was very unclear because there was no entrance on that side. The entrance was on the side, accessible via a staircase that was not clearly visible from the terrace. We politely apologized and ordered from the correct pub. My daughter wanted to see the menu at The Anchor Inn, so she walked in again and asked to take a look at the menu. The man and woman behind the bar looked at her very angrily and said: "Not here! That pub!!" and showed her the door. How rude! She wanted to see what they had on the menu and come back to eat later in the day. Sadly Anchor Inn, we will never return here!

Had a lovely Sunday lunch here ,Jayden was very helpful throughout . Assisting my mum to bring her mobility scooter inside. Food was good and reasonably priced. Allowed us to order a smaller meal for Mum .

Whilst visiting Hastings, went in the Anchor Inn. I had a chicken burger, which had two chicken breast in it with cheese, bacon and onion rings. This was a lovely burger, my wife had dressed crab, which she said was very nice. Staff were friendly and atmosphere was good, also dog friendly. Would have food in here again.

First time In this pub went with my dad and his partner for sunday lunch. Have to say thought the roast dinner was quite tasteless.

Food was ok, service was good but the atmosphere let down by GBnews on the TV and all the British flags all over the walls and ceiling pints and far right politics not my favourite combination.

Food was dissapointing. Lamb shank was dry and cold. Staff a bit rude. Stood at bar and asked to pay the bill lady said sure then walked off to serve someone else.

We had our team's Christmas meal here. The staff were amazing, the food was wonderful and it's such a nice atmosphere. Highly recomend this pub in every way

We booked for Sunday lunch and although the staff were efficient and welcoming the food was poor. The vegetables were cheap and lacking in taste and the gravy was like coloured water, no flavour at all. This was a disappointing experience.

We popped into the Anchor, without any expectations, just wanting an evening meal. The pub turned out to be utterly charming with lovely staff and really tasty good food.

PLEASE can you stop playing your trashy music on your cheap speaker in your doorway for the whole street to listen to. You are e ruining the atmosphere for everyone. Pretty sure you are thinking you are doing us a favour - you are not!

We called here at midday for food. We were a party of 4 adults and 2 children and we were seated on a big table by a friendly lady behind the bar who took our drinks order. The food was very nice. I ordered the smoked mackerel with new potatoes and salad and it was extremely good. The menu said it was local and it certainly tasted fresh. I would recommend it.

Happened upon The Anchor whilst on a day visit to Hastings. Lovely pub that we would visit again. Plenty of shady seating out front and a very reasonably priced menu. The food was fresh, generous and delicious ( we had the sea bream) and the beer was good. Friendly staff and good service. These days you can often feel underwhelmed by overpriced, mediocre food in pubs but this was just the opposite.

Called in for a lunchtime pint while on holiday . Pleasantly surprised. Friendly barman . Nice atmosphere Decided to try lunch after seeing food coming out for other customers. I had the steak and kidney pudding which came with mash spuds peas and carrots . And a lot of gravy in a gravy boat . Portions were plentiful and I can generally eat a lot . My wife had the Salmon and asparagus fish cake with salad and fries. Both were really tasty . Would certainly return or another visit if in town and recommend it .

We was told this was one of the oldest pubs in Hastings old town, so had to visit. Small, quaint pub. The staff were friendly. We ordered some lunch which was lovely and fresh. Constant steady flow of people visiting for a drink. Nice clean toilets

What a great find. A proper pub; great publican and his wife. They put the football on for us and let us bring take away, all the staff, including the geez on the bar were superb.

I usually have a great time here as I am local and been many many times over the years. and food is also usually great. Food wise the lamb was over cooked and potatoes under cooked as well as the carrots. The nut roast and chicken was excellent - so we were not going to say anything about this. Also because I come a lot and the food is usually perfection. The staff were great as always they are amazing and friendly. But the owner was very rude and argumentative when at the time I was speaking to a member of staff - I had not been advised when booking that if someone from our table does not arrive they will keep the deposit - so I was Questioning this and stating that I felt it was a little naughty that I was not told when booking. That was all, my tone was calm, I was not rude. And the staff member said it is the policy and he was fine with me. I was about to say ok well I know for next time. then the owner from the pub who was behind the bar starting having a go at me, about how I should know this and it’s the norm and everyone does this and I should of known this. and they don’t need to tell anybody as it’s Normal everywhere you go, her tone was very aggressive and there was absolutely no need for such rudeness. It was also I felt undermining the lovley staff who was already explaining their policy. The rudeness and aggressive tone from the owner was totally not called for and everyone in the pub could hear this as it was shouted at me from behind the bar to where I was sitting at the table at back of the pub. Due to this rudeness and the food being not as good as it has always been. I will not be coming back. That sort of experience is not what you want when having a family Easter dinner especially when loved ones who have passed could not be present. You should not be taking your stress out on your local customers. And it’s a shame as all the staff were absolutely lovely. The owner showed them up and let them down. Really disappointed in the way I was spoken to absolutely no need for it. Everyone with me felt the same and said they won’t come back with such a rude owner.

We have spent an evening in the Anchor previously having enjoyed a great evening We visited again Sat.4th and enjoyed a lovely lunch in a cosy atmosphere.Although a slight confusion with food order we don’t make a fuss about mistakes like that.The staff remedied this straight away and the liver and bacon was worth the wait! We visit many Shepherd and Neame pubs and this one delivers especially as they have my favourite tipple,Hurlimans ! Thanks to all the staff for another great afternoon

Huge thank you to the staff for saving our lunch with emergency toddler entertainment. Wonderful hearty home cooked food, cosy and relaxed ambiance and very reasonably priced. We will always be coming back.

Had a lovely Roast dinner (lamb shank) only gripe, better selection of veg!

Just had lunch at the Anchor Inn with my wife. I had the steak fajitas which were cooked to perfection and tasted great. My wife had the salmon and haddock chowder which smelt amazing and tasted even better. The staff were very friendly and attentive but not hovering beside you. All in all a very pleasant experience

We went to this pub on Sunday 12th February 2023, one of our group is disabled and uses a wheelchair, we were stopped at the door when entering and told we couldn't come as her wheelchair would be in the way. This upset our friend, not because there was no room but in the way we were spoken too. Kindness goes along way.

What a complete Gem. Located in Hastings Old Town. Friendly welcoming staff and amazing home made meals. Phoned up and booked a table last minute which they kindly accommodated and are dog friendly, allowing our French bulldog to come too. Thank you

Nice lovely pub in Hastings old town

The Sunday Roast was absolutely delicious. Our server Ben was such a lovely fella, he was so friendly and courteous and a joy to chat with. The Pub has a nice cozy atmosphere, we found the Sunday Roast to be very well priced. And if we lived in Hastings, we would definitely make it a point to eat there often on a Sunday. If you are ever in Hastings, stop in and grab a bite or a drink and see Ben....his such a lovely young man.

Landlady is a battle axe. Needed the loo whilst walking down George street and I thought I will go in the anchor, my husband and I was in there a couple of hours previously and bought drinks and so I thought it would be okay but no, I was told that the loos were for customers only, I explained that I had been one and I was desperate. The battle axe just looked at me like I was rubbish and said I should have asked and just walked off. Very humiliating and a terrible experience. The anchor will never have mine or my acquaintances business again.

Had a very tasty and very filling roast dinner - everything cooked to perfection and good roast spuds! Haven't been in awhile but will definitely be back.

Rubbish service Waitress short changed my friends by £10 but they were onto her. Can't trust anyone especially with a cash transaction. Evil.

Stopped for lunch and sat outside which was really pleasant. The service was friendly. The beer selection was good. I tried the dressed crab which was good but the portion was quite small.
