Great place for food and to watch Hastings walk by.. Reliably good pub grub..

My husband and I popped in here for a pre-dinner drink, as we had planned to go to a nearby restaurant. Amy who was very friendly briefed us on their bingo night that was being held later that TUESDAY evening. We popped back to see what it was all about, and we had an absolute blast of an evening. It was a fun experience as Graham who was the bingo caller, made the evening all worthwhile. If you're easily offended at the start, stick around as you you won't be offended by the time you leave! To say it's an alternative form of bingo calling is an understatement 😁 However, it's a good fund raising event and you also have the opportunity to win a cash prize or 5. Considering we were merely visitors Jason also made us feel extremely comfortable in our unfamiliar surroundings, and if ever you want a good laugh with a more "mature" bunch of locals, this would be the place to go. They also serve food, but we didn't get the chance to sample the menu. Thank you for making us feel so welcome guys.

Great pub, always good atmosphere, live gigs are great fun and food has always been good when I've eaten there.

My fave place on Friday night. Great music and atmosphere. And friendly staff.

It was disappointing to be told to leave because of our sleeping baby. We were there for a drink and for the folk music and told no children allowed after 7pm. This to me seems like an incredibly old fashioned way of thinking which keeps women at home with the children and allows men to go off to the pub for a drink. I would love to know if there is a sensible reason for a rule like this.

Sea facing pub on the main road in the old town. Outside seating where you can watch the world go round d inside is a traditional pub selling ales, draught & bottles + all the usual spirits . Popped in with my partner dressed as pirates....the place was packed with. Great vibe

The best pub for cask conditioned ale in Hastings, and I've had ales in them all, and they do have significant competition... Today I drank ales brewed by 2 breweries from a distance away, although great local ales are regularly sold there too. Today, the ever excellent semi-regular (a good reason to visit) Oakham Ales 'Citra' (Peterborough), and an ale I've never drunk before, but brewed from Cornish brewery St Austell 'Summer Sun' supporting the RNLI, and packed full of fruity hoppiness, pale, with a dry bitter finish, I love Kernow (worked and lived there for a while). Quality ales in the Dolphin, and so much better than the insipid ales served up in the ubiquitous Sheps pubs in Hastings Old Town! Always friendly and they are prepared to serve 'tasters' and to replace ales if there's something wrong with them Cheers folks, this is the place to visit for crackin' ales, indeed, when in Hastings the place to drink in, and packed full of customers when I left a wee while ago...

Truly Awful Beer! We were on a mini pub crawl and this was the first pub we stopped at. It was the first time EVER that we both left our beers, just not nice. We love a real ale and had never experienced such bad beer, very sad. On the upside, we went to three other pubs in Old Town Hastings area and the beers were great! Highly recommend the Whitstable Bay in Ye Olde Pumphouse pub!

My favourite Hastings pub, based in the old town fishing area. Family owed for many years. A great range of ales. Friendly and just a great place to sip a pint and soak up the atmosphere.

This was the first pub I came to after walking down from the car park at Hastings Country Park. And I'm glad I stopped here. My food was good ( cod and chips) the Guinness was nice. And the staff were decent. I would recommend

Had my lunch here during my competing in the nearby Crazy Golf World Championships, at Hastings Adventure Golf Course. They've added a few new meals for summer, and I had the Ploughman's Lunch, which certainly filled me up, with some lovely cheeses (3 types). Speedy and friendly service, I'll be back! And a great choice of 6 cask ales, I had the Wylam 'Fleek' which was pale, dry and bitter, just like me, and just the way I like my ales. 'twas excellent! And a good choice of alternative styles too, including 2 different 'Sussex Best' bitters, cheers!

Great pub with excellent beer and food.

We had lunch in this nice pub after returning to Old Town Hastings from our East Hill walk and it was a very pleasant and soothing experience. The food (we had the haddock fish and chips as the special of the day) and it was delicious and fresh (we are near the sea, you can feel it), with one the ales available at that time. The staff was welcoming and friendly. There were tables outside but all were already unavailable when we arrived (sunny bank holiday). Thanks for the experience.

A great find! An old fashioned pub in every positive way. Very friendly staff, and the locals were chatty too. Nice fish n chip lunch to boot.

What a lovely pub. Proper old style finally the very best ways. We'd toured the seafront pubs on a Wednesday looking for food and a pint seems that this was the only one serving food. It was also the only one with customers. We were made very welcome, water and treats for our dog too. Decent food and quality beer. Couldn't ask for more.

Excellent pub quiz on Thursdays!

Have eaten here before and it’s been ok but went on bank holiday for Jack in the Green and it was horrible! I couldn’t believe it was possible to serve fries that were that bad! Perhaps the chef had changed or was on a day off! We wanted sandwiches or a baguette but there was nothing on the menu so opted for some fries. What a mistake! But will eat somewhere else next time.

Lovely pub very much worth a visit and sit outside and watch the world go by.

I went there recently on a Thursday evening, and the member of staff was sitting at the bar eating chips which he brought in. I sat alone and the same member of staff, then welcomed everybody in the pub, kissing all the women whilst I was still ignored. I went back to the pub on the Saturday night with a friend and we made fuss of the landlord’s dog, but again we did not feel welcome there for some reason.

Great pub and the food is out of this world. Always going to come back when we visit Hastings.

Great customer service and excellent food

Sadly we were only in Hastings for two night but so glad we stumbled on this jewel. A really friendly atmosphere with excellent choice of beverages. Entertainment from local poets and bingo if that’s your fancy. Seating is rustic and I’m sure busy in the warmer weather. Right on the doorstep of the fishing boats and old town. We just had to go back as it was so nice.

Great location overlooking the historic net shops. Sat outside in the February sunshine drinking Hophead. Perfect 👍

Really great fish’n chips. Fish super tender, juicy and fresh. Great special offer on monday evenings - duper large portion for a pretty decent price (13,50€) including a drink. Really enjoyed the place.

Not happy with service. Went on Sunday hoping for Sunday lunch. Told sold out. Very clickey atmosphere, felt not wanted must be my London accent. Ended up with just a drink, shame as looked inviting from outside. Won't be back.

We had a great lunch here. Lovely welcome for us and water and treats for our dogs. Really good, fresh food and served quickly. Recommend the battered cod and chips and the crab sandwich with fries. Nice fresh salad with dressing as it should be served - in a separate dish so you can add your own. Perfect.

Typical British pub, very good.

Went in with a young man I support. Food was fantastic, service great and friendly people in here. Because of his disability, the young man I support has issues with certain food so they catered for this with no issues, no drama.

Had a delicious clam chowder better than anything I have had in the USA. This was followed by sprats which were really hot which was lovely as usually they come warm. Service was very quick and price very good

Nipped in for a pub lunch. The muscles were delicious, the burger was a large portion and also very tasty. Shame I didn’t see the notice advertising the 3 x 1/3 pints of real ale tasters! Next time!

Stopped in cause it was pouring outside. Eaten here before but just wanted something small. Have whitebait starter and it was massive. Wife had hummus and said it was really great, came with celery and bread. Nice inside and locals were good value with their chat.

Just had a drink here but loved it. Hope to come back one evening for the live music!

A lovely traditional pub, one of my favourites. Always a great place to watch the world go by. Especially on sunny days.

Met up with friends 8 of us and we all said how good the food was. They were really helpful with my dairy intolerance and amending the fish dish for me so helpful thanks. Staff lovely and friendly would definitely recommend if in hastings.

Great place for a lovely bit of fish and chips.

Called in with our 2 little dogs, we were made very welcome and soon settled with a drink and ordered our food, we had the burger and crab Mac and cheese, the portions were large and the food was very tasty, We felt very welcome and the locals were all very friendly, Our only comment would be,, and it’s not a criticism was that the ladies toilet were quite cramped but clean and serviceable, Hope to return some day Thank you

Lovely Old Town pub with both traditional craft beers and regular draught beers and lager... Plus regular live music and a delightful external seating area where you can absorb the atmosphere of both the sea and the net huts... Busy in the summer..!!!!

Ordered mussles, clam chowder and smoked haddock chowder. Everything was SUPER delicious. It was the last day of my stay in Hastings and it was the perfect end-of-holiday meal.

Really love this pub and the Harvey’s is always amazing. The food was average unfortunately, the chef that was there before has obviously left which was a huge shame. Obviously we will come back but maybe not to eat.

Very nice lunch and good environment

I popped into the Dolphin for a Pint and a bite to eat. My intention was to have fish, but on their daily specials board was Lamb Shank, which I love, so I chose that. It arrived with mashed potatoes, carrots and green beans on the side, and a small jug of gravy. The lamb was cooked to perfection, and fell off the bone, and the mash and vegetables were also very tasty. Overall it was a great experience.

Very friendly, cosy pub in Hastings old town. Lovely ambience, great staff, outdoor seating where you can sit and people watch. Love it ❣️
