On our trip down from London, we stumbled across this oasis. Such a cosy atmosphere, we felt like we could spend hours here alone. The coffee was well blended and perfectly presented with a Biscoff biscuit (on the house). Go Here.

I’m often in the Robertson Street branch.. Food is always great but the prices are seriously ridiculous. For a posh lemonade (they didn’t have an affordable version”) and the tiniest falafel and pepper wrap, it was £8.60!! The wrap had no garnish, no salad on the side, no crisps…just two halves of the wrap which was four small mouthfuls. I’m sorry, but yiu can’t put the prices up and offer less. I can eat a whole full English breakfast for less than that. Also, the layout for the toll is not great. Everyone lines up, the line is often long as there is only ever one person on the till. There is no space Newtown the large table and queue, so people coming in and out of the kitchen, in and out of the toilets or just trying to leave the queue once paying have to squeeze passed all the time. It’s a great venue and the food is good, but with so many choices in town which are better value, I won’t be going as often

Excellent coffee speedily served in atmospheric surroundings in George Street. The walls are lined with countless books of all vintages - ideal for a browse - and we loved the availability of that day’s newspapers; something of a rarity these days. We enjoyed a chat with the owner who clearly takes great pride in the surroundings and the heritage of Hastings Old Town.

An unplanned lunch as a table became available outside on a lovely sunny day. Went inside to order and so many tables were uncleared. We ordered our food and waited. And waited! I went in to ask if our food was ready and the pregnant waitress who was sat down, understandably in the heat, said it was just coming. None of the inside tables had been cleared still. We watched as 2 girls took food outside to customers, it didnt even occur to them to clear a table or two as they passed. By the time our food came 2 outside tables were now empty but yet again the girls delivering the food didnt even think to clear the tables as they returned to the kitchen empty handed. It was so frustrating to watch as so many tables were full of dirty plates and cups, any prospective customers were just leaving as the place was such a mess. No staff to be seen. Such a shame and am sure management are unaware of the staffs inefficiency. All they need to be taught is to not return to the kitchen empty handed if tables need clearing. Simple and would mean so many more satisfied customers. Badly run yet not sure management are even aware. Great spot and food good but too chaotic to even consider returning, which is a shame.

Don't order a hot chocolate unless you want multiple coffee orders prioritised over your order. When I asked where are order was I was told it was the next ticket then watched two walk in coffee orders done first. When I asked a second time I got a very short answer and continued dirty looks from the main 'barista'. 15 minute wait for a hot chocolate and flat white is not great. It's got 3 stars because I've been there before and it was better. Lots of choice in the area so not great customer retention.

I didn't quite realise before, but all the books are for sale for a cash donation so it's worth having some cash money with you. 100% would come again, as my kid REALLY needs to know how many books are on the shelves!

I’m not one for negative reviews but after my last visit I sadly won’t be visiting again, Hanushka has been my go-to coffee spot for a long while but each visit has slowly become a worse experience.. I haven’t felt very welcomed in my last few visits but this week I wasn’t greeted and I felt like I was a nuisance for ordering a coffee. I also really have to mention the smell, which again, has become much worse with time. When close to the kitchen, I used to be able to smell the kitchen drains but you couldn’t smell them in the rest of the cafe… the smell has gotten much worse over time and now it’s all I can smell when I open the door, I can’t sit inside anymore sadly it’s quite strong. Really a shame to see the standards slip over time as I love this coffee spot for sit in and take away and the food options are always beautiful (lots of vegan and gluten free if needed). But my last visit was really quite unpleasant.

This review is for Hanushka Two. I liked the sofa. In fact I always checked whether there was space available before I ordered a cappuccino. If not I left as I found their wooden chairs uncomfortable, no biggie. It's a Friday and I'm sat on the sofa (with two other customers) waiting for my coffee to arrive when a member of staff tells all three of us that the sofa is actually "reserved" (no reserved sign visible) and we'll all have to move!! What?? Didn't even know reserving the sofa was a thing. Seeing as my cappuccino hadn't arrived, I asked for a filled loyalty card (instead of refund ) so I could get the coffee I'd already paid for next time and then went elsewhere. The following Monday I'm back on the sofa with a cappuccino (which took just short of twenty minutes to arrive) when five minutes after it's arrival a member of staff comes over and tells me the sofa is reserved for 12 o'clock (again no reserved sign on display) so could I move OR finish my coffee in the next nine minutes (I pointed out it had taken twice that long to arrive in the first place and this being the second time in two visits I'd been asked to move, which didn't appear to go down well). So twice now I feel I've essentially been booted out of Hanushka 2 because I had the audacity to sit on the sofa without reserving it first. The young person who "evicted" me from the sofa for the second time was clearly more annoyed by my protestations (twice in four days!!) than she was apologetic. It was a real "nothing to do with me, I didn't know anything about it" job. Total lack of training/professionaliam. Teenagers of today I guess. So I have yet another filled loyalty card (although I'm not feeling particularly loyal at the moment). It may be a while before I go back which is a shame as their coffee is good. Very very disappointed with customer treatment. 😒

Was so clear when opened the panini that not enough brie to give that lovely, rich melted, gooey winter loveliness. Took up to the counter and stated, whilst pointing at depleted brie... Where is the brie? Only to be told in a very aggressive 'what do you know tone'... Obviously the brie melts when heated up 🤔😜... I was so taken aback that I decided on this occasion to just leave. Delicious (pretty strong!) coffee. A really beautiful place. Books everywhere - even in the loo. Classy but unprententious. Nice staff. I've seen some book-themed cafes before and they can tend to look a little tatty - not here. Mixture of folks quietly reading the paper, chatting, working on laptops. I was working on mine - great atmosphere for it - there's quite a lot of space and both times I visited, despite it being half-full, they was a sense of relative quiet - there was chatting, there was even a little girl playing in the toy corner, but it all felt very calm. And my little table with a retro lamp was great. Perfect. The cakes looked amazing too - some unusual options - but I'm trying to be good, so I didn't try them.

We went to the Robertson St. Hanushka. The food was fine but to be honest it was spoilt by the grumpiness of the staff and no it wasn’t busy, it was about half full. I wouldn’t recommend asking for an oat milk cappuccino as whoever made mine clearly hadn’t been trained in the difference between using oat milk and cows milk. Won’t be retuning.

Well, it’s always interesting to be treated as the problem when I go out for coffee. It’s the usual problem: I ask, “do you have any gluten-free cakes?” Answer: “there’s a brownie”. Response: “but they are uncovered, next to the other cakes. So I can’t eat them, I’m celiac. It would be quite easy to cover them and keep them separate.” This is followed by: “It’s not up to us.” (And not in a pleasant tone, which provoked her colleague to tell us that our comments ‘would be passed on’). So I hope they have been. It really is quite simple: if you put your ‘gluten-free option’ next to all the other cakes, THEY’RE AREN’T GLUTEN FREE ANYMORE.
