Bullet in Hastings

Came in for a lunch time snack! We were sat down outside and I presume what was the owner, served us. A lovely young lady then came and gave us our food and I could not believe the way the owner was speaking to her! Absolutely disgusting, no manners whatsoever! I tell you what if that was my daughter I would not let her go back to a company that clearly has no respect to their staff! Also talking like that in-front of customers no degree of professionalism! Makes you think how does she actually speak to her staff in the back of house! I’m truly appalled at the attitude of the so called ‘owner’ working in retail myself I can truly say I would not speak to any of my team like that regardless of any wrong doing (from what I can see there was nothing this lovely young lady done wrong) needless to say I will not be recommending this cafe and will not be returning and putting money in there pocket! Disgusting attitude!

As we were staying at accommodation with no breakfast we needed to find somewhere to eat. The 9:30 opening time at the Bullet Coffee House was bit late for breakfast, but this did allow for a lovely, and sunny, early morning stroll along the seafront – we arrived at opening time and was soon seated and ordering food. The breakfast and drinks were good and we could see the sea in the distance from our table. We opted for the half-English and the “bullet” eggs benedict, just need to be aware that a 10% service charge is added if 2 or more people are eating.

One of the girls she has dark hair and long yellow fake nails, she was rather rude to one of the other workers, me and my husband overheard her and I felt disgusted, she was also rude when serving us.

Best vegan food in hastings! Excellent options for meat eaters too. Staff do a great job even when super busy. Particularly enjoyed a good poach up on a saturday xx

The menu had decent variety and the food was ok, but the service was incredibly poor. The staff had limited knowledge of the menu, we had allergen and dietary requirements which staff were informed off but then failed disregarded, it was a 30-40minute wait for food, they refused to provide an extra mug to share our large pot of tea, our food arrived and cutlery wasn’t delivered till we asked for it more than 5 minutes later. The staff were so busy and rushed off their feet that they had accidents (dropping drinks/ spills) twice within 30 minutes. And there was only one chef on a busy Saturday. I empathise with how tricky this must be but this is a serious staffing issue. At the end the chef came out and was rude, complaining about our dietary requirements and being understaffed. Neither are our fault - if you can’t accommodate just say that instead of serving the food unaltered because you’re “too busy”. We did appreciate that one (of three) of the dishes was remade but this extended our wait further. All in all I wouldn’t recommend- there are 2 other cafes on the same road to choose from.

The vegan options are fantastic, enough on the menu to suit most dietary needs. All homemade and the sweet counter had delicious treats, many are vegan!

Not been for a while, but have always chosen here when the time allows and can get this way. Have had a brilliant time here every time that have been there, love the food and drink things here and would love to continue to come here in the future.

This is becoming a regular spot for me because the breakfasts are delicious - I had a full English with fried eggs today but am steadily working my way through the menu - and the atmosphere and customer service are spot on

Love this place. Have been several times on visits to Hastings. My kids beg to go for the pancakes! I love the mushroom coffee and hearty egg breakfasts. Lots of veggie and vegan options and all delicious!

We’d walked past this place a couple times and it looked decent so decided to come in and have breakfast. Table was manky when we sat down and we also told we weren’t allowed to sit on certain tables despite the place being empty which felt v off. After ordering our food, we then had to wait 25 minutes for our food to come, again bearing in mind when we had ordered our food there was no one else in the cafe at this point (though people did come in later this doesn’t make sense as to why our food took so long). When our food eventually did come along, what came was shocking - i had ordered the eggs benedict royale with the addition of guacamole. The guacamole was clearly not fresh. It looked and tasted shop bought as it was smooth and slimy and the colour of snot, I also got the tiniest slither of smoked salmon that didn’t even cover one part of the “muffin”. The muffin was so over cooked I couldn’t even cut into it, the egg was watery and the hollaindaise sauce tasted like milk. My partner got a fry up, which supposedly came with “mushrooms” - it came with one small mushroom, a half frozen hash brown and again the eggs were watery and gross with the bread completely inedible and like cardboard. Very clearly cheap frozen ingredients. We ate less than half of our food before we decided we couldn’t eat the rest and decided to let the server know we weren’t happy and didn’t want to eat the rest or pay. We assumed this would be fine since we alerted our server less than halfway through our meal however a couple minutes later the im assuming owner and person who has been aggressively replying to bad reviews on here came up and asked what was wrong in a very confrontational manner. When we were told her what was wrong and we didn’t want to pay she wasn’t having any of it and got very aggressive, accusing us of eating “most” of the food and even when we pointed it it wasn’t even half the food she just carried on ranting at us and claiming she wanted the feedback when she was not listening to our feedback at all and every time we tried to tell her something she was just arguing back instead of listening. The staff looked tired as if this is a regular occurrence and you could tell other customers were shocked by what was going on. I explicitly told her we were not there to argue with her and just wanted to leave but she kept going on at us. At this point I told her she was being aggressive and she then claimed we were being aggressive and turned it around on us, she then forced us to pay half of the meal bc it was “half eaten” even though we had clearly said we didn’t want to pay for such poor quality food and that we had not at eaten half of it, but at this point we were so tired from her arguing with us we just agreed to do this so we could get out of there. Absolutely disgraceful behaviour. As I said when giving you feedback in the shop - take the criticism on the chin and just do better. You should not be serving such poor quality food at those prices! Editing to add my response as the owner loves to tell lies. Firstly we were neither rude or angry at your staff. We did not threaten anyone with a one star review to get free food as we told you after we agreed to pay half price by that point, and nor did we eat a large proportion of the meal, which we pointed out at the time and you actually agreed with. given you start your review with we are happy to refund if we are advised of the issue and when advised of the issue you just kept belittling us and trying to argue with what we didn’t like - you clearly are not prepared to be advised on any issues nor issue refunds which again is shown in your response here. We are sorry you feel us giving you two one star reviews will negatively impact your business but perhaps you should think about that before sending out shoddy food and a bad attitude.

Adorable little cafe which offers something for everyone, nice food -many vegan things, coffee, cocktails, beer, smoothies, in a humble relaxed environment

Good attentive staff but the bacon in the BLT had more fat than meat unfortunately. Plus £4.60 for a small coffee is extraordinary. Usually comes with one shot, upon paying discovered the extra shot cost £1.80. Perverse as a medium with two shots is £3.60. Go figure.

Great vegan and non vegan options. Seating is quite compact and the staff were quite quiet but overall was very nice place to eat!

On the positive side: as a group we had a range of dietary needs, ranging from coeliac to vegan. The staff were extremely helpful with the ingredients, and there was a reasonable range of options - more than average. On the negative side: the portions were 'snack-size' and very variable. I chose one of the specials as a main, with a bubble-&-squeak side, they were both the same size, and miniscule! So I ordered a side of fries, since I was still pretty hungry, and the fries were bigger than the main+side I'd just eaten together! 4 stars for catering to special dietary needs (cake selection for gluten-free & vegan wasn't great), 1 star for portions.

Always has lots of nice vegan food and cakes. I can't say what the non-Vegan food is like, but it is also popular. Very friendly staff and owner.

This place has some real good vegan meal options and cakes which taste delicious. We came to have just a light lunch and take some take away cakes. Though we have been overcharged which I found out while we’ve been rushing to car park as our parking was running out. Ive paid nearly £22 instead of £16.50. So enjoy your meal there but be careful what they charge you. UPDATE to reply: Hm. I really have warm an kind words for review and only wanted to let people know if mistake happens then they should be cautious and ask company about it. I’ve never came across rude reply from any company to my review taking it so offensive while it wasn’t mean to be. This brings my rating and view of this company even Lower and wouldn’t come again. I’ve brought the menu up before the review to count exactly how much we should’ve paid and if there is a service fee then ok it wouldn’t still be £18.42 then. Yes we are all humans and do mistakes. Though it for to need to be taken offensive whilst reviews are here for people from people about what’s great and what we need to be cautious about. I haven’t wrote nasty review picking only on the pricing but based on they’re reply it’s up to me to check and to just shut up about it 😂😂😂😂👌🏼 the best services I came across so far then. Btw if I have to be real honest then here it is…. We have had portion of chips and addition vegan scrambled egg which we waited for for good half an hour. The chips were soaking in oil the vegan scrambled egg was tasty, the cbd drink can was put in the glass which is not sanitary. The only smiling lovely person there I found the lady in a blue dress which didn’t serve us unfortunately. So originally I have rated this company with 3 stars as I still wanted to point out they have vegan options and wanted to be more polite to them I know take it Down to 1 ⭐️ ✌🏼✌🏼

Came across this place by chance today and had a really lovely lunch. Fantastic selection of veggie options, I had the vegetarian chicken kebab thing on the specials menu I think it was. Have recommended to friends and our little ones have asked if we can go back the next time we are in Hastings 👏

I really hope they keep the vegan ‘chicken’ kebab on the menu. It was absolutely amazing! The ‘chicken’ had a superb texture, coated in a really tasty and almost satay like seasoning. With flat bread, rainbow slaw, baba ganoush, and hot green chilli. Honestly one of the best meals I’ve had in ages. The food was very reasonably priced, and the staff all wonderful. Thank you! Great place, lovely friendly service, dogs welcome and super choice on the menu for all types of diet. Both vegan and meat eater well satisfied after our breakfast thia morning. Sweet treats looked good but to full to try today, will have to plan a return trip.

Nice coffee ruined by the overpowering taste of UHT milk! Unfortunately my flapjack was a little on the stale side too. But nice location, staff and ambience and food menu looks good.

A huge variety on the menu, so a great place for a large group or if you have a family where everyone wants something different. Our breakfasts and coffees were both great, simple and classic offerings. Nothing mind blowing, but a crowd pleaser for sure.

Had an excellent lunch here: perfectly cooked Eggs Benedict with silky hollandaise on a muffin toasted just as you'd want it. Coffee, atmosphere and staff all just as good. Great view of the street and the sun comes streaming through the windows. A gem.

Lovely food an my tea was served in a tall thermos type mug so my drink kept hot even when I'd finished my breakfast. Dog friendly. Quite cramped but would definitely recommend an visit again

Really lovely independent cafe with ingenious vegan dishes, and gluten free options. It took a while to arrive as Sunday brunchtime was extremely busy but I loved my vegan scramble which was a seedy, avocado mix - much more interesting than tofu versions I have had elsewhere. I had to re-brand myself as a flexitarian to enjoy the pancakes -and glad I did! It's hard to see how the layout could be improved, but the tables for 2 aren't really big enough to get comfortable. Our dog was made welcome, but we had to move to a table for 3 for her to relax. I hope the cafe manages its popularity, as the food is good, but it probably needs to expand into a bigger space.

Probably won’t be going back. Tables are cramped together and very low and uncomfortable. Food is good but a bit over priced for what you get.

Hard working family business. Delicious, home-cooked food, very friendly staff, quick service and a lovely location. My 11 and 5 year old are addicted to the pancakes! Often have activities you can book too, such as wreath making at Christmas. LOVE!!X

Tried this place on a whim for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised! Lovely pancakes and waffles with fresh fruit and chocolate and lots of choices! (I recommend the pistachio and chocolate pancakes!) polite staff, the gentleman serving us was friendly and attentive and great with our 4 year old. Very cosy. Will definitely be back!!

Food was good although my order was wrong. Staff were friendly. However they have cramped tables together so you are crammed into a small space with strangers all around. Hardly can hear the person you’re with but can hear both the conversations either side easily. Tables are way too low and wobbly (also uncleaned and sticky). Chairs are very uncomfortable with zero back support. Probably won’t be returning. Lots of vegan and GF options which is good.

Don’t get the scrambled eggs!!!! in response to the owner - they were incredibly bland and pale. We were even wondering if they might be powdered as they were so bad. The fried and poached eggs seemed so fresh and lovely but the scramble was really awful. They also came out cold... I was expecting golden, creamy scramble but was really disappointed. I think there was too much milk/cream and not enough egg...

First class staff, friendly, cheerful and helpful in spite of being rushed off their feet as it was very busy. Good variety of vegan and veggie meals but was disappointed when I ordered a vegan salmon bagel and the 'salmon' was slices of squash. I had been looking forward to a fishy snack but there was no hint of any fish flavour (like Nori seaweed). I just feel that this should be better clarified on the menu. Otherwise very good.

Can’t go wrong with breakfast at Bullet. Great host/owners, staff and food at very reasonable prices. If you’re not full enough you can always try the bullet pastries and cookies.

I was very disappointed and upset. We came in and sat down, they were busy and I took that into consideration, we ordered our food and it took over an hour to come witch is fair enough as there were busy, but what wasn’t acceptable was the under cooked food. I got avocado egg with what was meant to be sour dough but they gave me normal bread, the eggs were VERY under cooked, the white bit of the egg was water, so I asked them if I could get them taken off. He then told me(pretty sure the chef) that they wasn’t undercooked and that how they serve there eggs even though my daughters and sisters were fine, they said that I won’t have to pay for the eggs but his words ‘I HAVE TO PAY FOR EVERYTHING ELSE’ of course I would he then told me he had to watch me scrap the eggs off my toast so I scraped the eggs off my toast onto a plate and he walked away which left me with soggy toast with raw egg all over it. I then went up to get the bill he tried to charge me £20 for toast,avocado,ice coffee, and a slice of toast with an egg I then said I would like to see the receipt before I paid. He then told me I had to pay before I was allowed to see the receipt. I refused and said I will not be paying until I see the receipt. he then brought a woman up.I had to leave to get to work so my sister dealt with it. She said they were very rude to her and even when I was there was talking over me constantly. It came to light that my meal was only £12, They tried to put loads of extras on our bill that wasn’t there including hashbrowns and sausages that my sister did not have as she’s VEGAN!

My brother is a vegan and loved the menu, I’ve been coming for years and love the coffee. An urban oasis one minutes walk to the beach! They have cake. I love cake.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place …. Honestly Hastings is pretty run down and a sad state as soon as you step out of the train station. But this place is a light beautiful spot with incredible food options !!! Friendly staff and juts all a GREAT place to be !

The food is absolutely delicious, one of the best cafes I have ever visited. Although the service is a let down. Dont get me wrong, it is worth going to, but it took absolutely ages for us to get our food (which was slightly fair enough as there were quite a few people) and also the waitress forgot to get us our drink which means we had to ask again, this did not work because we did not get our drink this time either. I then went up to what I assume was the manager, and he was perfectly happy to grab us the lemonade that took no effort to get out of the fridge. He also apologised. One of the younger woman waitresses was the worst waitress I have ever met. She was rude, and did not listen to her customers, she also got a lot of orders mixed up- not just our order. The other waiters and waitresses were very polite and happy to help. I recommend this cafe if you have the patience to wait, the wait is worth the food.

Went,yesterday, Saturday, and waited approx 10 mins to be served. Asked the gentleman how long the food would take and was met with "I don't know" so we left. (I had my two daughters aged 8 and 9) Went back in today and found a table. Served quickly. After 20 mins, I asked the same gentlemen how long the food would be and was met, yet again, with "I don't know". So I asked him to find out which I shouldn't really of had to do. My scrambled eggs were disgusting and looked like they had been microwaved (dry/tasteless and in a slab). This was in stark contrast to the customer next to me, who's scrambled eggs came out 2-3mins later, and looked Michelin quality ( how scrambled eggs should look) I asked the same gentlemen why two sets of scrambled eggs should appear so different and was met with "I don't know" So my thoughts are : terrible customer service (from that gentleman), slow service for food 25 mins for eggs and waffles when there were only 3 people in front of me in what looked like a 50 person sitting restaurant and really poor quality food. Even my daughter, aged 9, left some of her waffles as in he words, "it was very dry" More expensive than SW London. Would never go again or recommend. Updated : You described me as " very picky and condescending" Please don't try and throw this back at me and take responsibility for how your business runs. Picky - so I cannot ask for crispy bacon or the eggs not to be on the top of the toast? Busy - 4 other people waiting for food before me. How do you even remotely call that busy for a restaurant that sits 50? And you haven't even mentioned the food that was presented to me so I will assume a microwave was used Taking the time to write a review isn't the goal for my holiday but is warranted when I have a catalogue of complaints. Maybe don't throw insults at people you don't know or haven't even met.

Lovely, bustling café near the front. Serves all, from the rapacious meat-eater to the diaphanous vegan, or vice versa. Traditional breakfasts with good quality meat to tasty vegan alternatives. And it doesn't stop there. They also do amazing fresh-baked cakes and biscuits. Highly recommend it.

Bullet is my local fabulous place for amazing food and coffee. And has been for a very long time. In the heart of the Hastings' America Ground Vicki Duffey and her team have created a brilliant cafe. Extended in the neighbouring property the bigger Bullet is spacious and light and very customer friendly. Their full English breakfast remains one of the very best in Hastings if not in the entire Milky Way solar system.

Nice atmosphere, but the quality of the breakfast, especiallly the veggie options needs to improve drastically, especially at a premium price. Sauces are provided in cheap plastic packets and the coffees are very milky. Staff are friendly but this place needs help with upgrading its food quality. Response to Bullet Coffee: Thanks for following up. I did mention about the veggie sausages upon paying and was just met with a "sorry about that". Regarding the sachets, we have been to many places now which provide sauces in bottles. For the coffees, we had a Latte and Cappuccino, both were very bad, especially in comparison to the other cafes in the old town. All of this would be fine, but for premium prices I would expect top quality.

We really enjoyed it! I loved the pancakes with the peanut butter and the vanilla chai latte was really good!

Came here recently based on reviews while visiting Hastings, and it definitely lived up to expectations! It's a quiet cafe off the main road. Service was very friendly, and the vibe of the place is very relaxing. Had a hot chocolate which tasted great, and...

I wish that a bit more care and attention would have been lavished on the flat white I ordered. It was so poorly made I had to leave mine. Shame as the staff and atmosphere were lovely, I'd definitely come back and try again.

Another great breakfast at my favourite cafe. Love this place, food is always yummy and generous, lots of thought and care goes into the extensive vegan options. All the staff are warm, friendly and welcoming, making sure our every whim is catered for. Special mention for Matt, the newish waiter, who manages to be warm, friendly, funny and efficient even when he's really busy.

A further reply If you read my last message correctly you would have read that I have visited a few times not that I was a regular customer. I also mentioned that as I had never seen this gentleman before I assumed that since you have been closed, it came across to me that it had changed hands as there was not any regular staff that i had seen on previous visits. Thefore my initial comment still stands I thought that if this is the case and that it was new owners it was a shame as the standards from the last owners have dramatically slipped. Also please do not play that card I have not made derogatory comments about anyone or your buisness. I described members of staff and how they addressed the situation. In addition how I felt on during my visit, it's not that wish to slander your buisness, I am just making valid opinion on how I feel your service was completely different to what I had been used to in the past. Whether this slips and changes when you are not there is something you need to address with your staff. Replying to the last message. Hi, well apologise about the description of the gentleman if he was not bald, he was middle aged with very short grey hair wearing a blue shirt. The reason I complained now was as being a vegan I have visited your cafe quite a few times and was always greeted and served by an older woman with dark hair. I had never seen this gentleman before at all and as you had been closed I had wondered or thought it had changed hands. The reason for not complaining on the day was that the service was so painful there was a young boy on work experience and a young girl who were both so awkwardly shy and unsure about everything, even after having to remake one of the smoothies due to two being exactly the same. Myself being a pregnant women visiting with my partner and his 5 year old son felt so bad to having to keep asking the staff "Are you sure this is the right one", "it dosent taste how it should or even described on the menu". It was embarrassing for us and them, I have been in there place before as a young waitress not knowing how to act or respond to customers who enquire or complain about things. As it's not there fault they only serve the food and wipe the tables. So as a result I paid by cash and left maybe this is why you don't have any record, I dont know. As for a review being out of spite and hiding behind a review I am more than happy to post this review to Facebook so you can see who is complaining. I have no need to hide behind anything. Also your response is so cold and catty, your just a cafe that serves coffee and bit of breakfast with avocado on the side hardly a Michelin star restaurant. You either learn and grow from complaints or stay up tight and don't. Everyone is human and sometimes mistakes are made. The fact is that i felt your service seems to have gone down hill and your smoothies are awful. You take that as you wish but that is how I feel as a customer. I came here a few weeks ago and ordered 4 of the smoothies which were the worst smoothies I have ever tasted. As someone who makes fresh juices and smoothies at home I know what consistency and taste they should resemble. However I was served syrup based smoothies which were watery and extremely sugary. On the menu it suggested they were made with ingredients bananas and nuts yet there was no trace. I had to check with the young members of staff that they were the correct ones, they themselves was so unsure. Whilst this was going the owner or front of house bald gentleman has clearly never ran an establishment before to not realise that customers are not happy when there are only one other table in the restaurant. He continued to talk about himself the whole time whilst his young not trained well enough staff dealt with the problem. Terrible service would not recommend!

Cafe is a few minutes walk from the sea front. Really good atmosphere, all the staff were friendly. They have homemade cakes all looked really nice. I had a sourdough toastie, it was so good we went back the next day. Also had a smoothie....

Had a late breakfast here, and it was delicious. Opted for a full English vegan brekkie with added vegan scramble. The food was piping hot, tasty and overall excellent. The scramble was brilliant dont let the green colour put you off! It was much tastier than the usual tofu scrambles. Vegan sausages were tasty as well. Service was a little slow but extremely friendly. If you are a vegan in Hastings I throughly recommend coming here.

We had a wonderful time here with delicious food, I worked my way through the cakes! I can definitely recommend the homemade sausage rolls, the gorgeous sticky coffee and walnut brownies, and the lemon cake!! The Prosecco also went down a treat!!

The food is just amazing. With food this good I could go vegetarian. I had the artichoke, mushroom toasted sourdough sandwich and turmeric latte and it was amazingly good. Service was good and food came quickly. Fully recommended. We will be back.

Visited here Sunday morning during a weekend break in Hastings. The coffee, the food and the staff were all amazing. Super quirky little shop with W really relaxed feel to it. Highly recommend, we will be back!

Seen this place online and thought it looks good I will try it. Staff were very pleasant to me. Took my order of two poached eggs on toast with salmon. Just after my order was taken a group of three people came in and ordered their food, one ordered a full English. Shortly after that a woman walked in and ordered. Approximately 25 mins later the three people were served before me and the woman on her own. I couldn’t understand why a full English breakfast was served before two poached eggs. The place was not even busy. The young girl apologised to me and I said that’s fine. I then waited another 10 mins and nothing! I then cancelled the order and paid for my coffee. I though they would say no that’s fine you don’t need to pay due to your inconvenience but no. Not a great first experience. But there will not be another

Good food. Good prices. Loadsa choice for meat-heads, veggies, vegans & gluten freedom fighters. Luvlie staff, big people watching windows (the windows are big not the people ........ oh alright some are) by the sea, & Julius Meinl coffee. What's not to like?

Wonderful friendly service. I popped in this morning for some breakfast and I felt very welcomed and treated with respect and kindness. I am vegan and they had so much choice it made the experience so much more special. Had a lovely cup of tea with hash browns, bubble and squeak and beans. Was delicious. The only reason I give a 4 not a 5 as took over 20 minutes for my breakfast but I was in there as soon as they open so may take a while for things to heat up. I will defiantly visit again i'm in the area for breakfast. I cant wait. Thanks so much!
