Our first time visit for an evening dinner. The staff were pleasant and friendly. The menu offers some unusual dishes, which is nice to see. The food was excellent, but a little pricy, good for a special meal. The only complaint I have is the service was very slow, it took them over half an hour to take our order, and to offer pre-dinner drinks, as the food is cooked from scratch it took another half an hour. I don’t want to be rushed, as the atmosphere is relaxed, but to wait an hour to eat when the booking was for 8.00 pm, was a little disappointing.

Well what a wonderful lunch deal,3 courses and a glass of wine £18 ! The food was extraordinarily good and clearly cooked by a Chef that really cares. We haven't experienced such unusual dishes on a lunch menu before.Small plates a bit Tapas style but way better with an English twist using very fresh and unusual Ingredients. Would highly recommend Front of house chap was lovely as well. We shall certainly return and try the evening menu.

Chilled, cute, dog friendly restaurant. We didnt go for small plates options, chose large plates mackerel and cous cous and lamb chop. It took a while to arrive but guessing that's because it is all cooked fresh and it also meant we were really hungry by the time we ate, and it was so worth the wait🩷 Flavours i could never hope to replicate, would absolutely recommend and visit again.🥳 even got a marrowbone for dog to take home🐶

We had a roast pork Sunday lunch and it was well presented and delicious. For the price of £21 per head, we would have liked to see a couple more vegetables on the plate rather than just some side carrots and roasted potatoes. The atmosphere was pleasant and lovely, attentive staff. However, one less star as we were charged a 12.5% service charge sitting on metal chairs with a plain wooden table. If this £5.25 is for the 2 cotton napkins on the table, then it's definitely an excessive charge. I would expect a service charge on a large group of people but not for just 2 people having lunch. Unfortunately because of this, we won't revisit.

We were a party of six, four adults and two children and we'd come for a Sunday Roast. We had to pre-book, and indeed the whole time we were there people were turning up on spec and being sadly disappointed by being turned away. We had a great table that accommodated us all very well, and a charming and friendly waitress who was very helpful in recommending sidedishes from the extensive menu, and helping us with the wine list. The food was excellent, as was the wine, and the eventual bill was reasonable too. The best comment on the night was "... I didn't realise that this quality of restaurant could be found in Hastings!"

I'm gutted we couldn't go, but their kindness has raised the bar even further for me and has made me even more keen to visit. I will re-book soon and edit this review upon doing so. The prepared food was way too salty--that's my No. 1 complaint. Leave it to the diners to salt their food! We were hoping for a delicious 'tapas' kind of experience, but only one of the dishes (the cauliflower) was in the least bit delicious. And the wine was insipid. Our experience was quite different to the other reviews listed here. We are two elderly ladies who did not order wine - we wondered if this was an issue for the waiter. We waited over half an hour for two small plates. When we asked the waiter when our food was coming, he replied 'this is not a fast food restaurant' in an unfriendly way. His attitude spoiled the evening for us. The food was ok when it finally arrived but not a happy experience.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

I visited Farmyard with my partner on Easter Saturday, something we (especially her) were looking forward to - we don't get to go out for nice meals very often. We felt our experience was somewhat let down in a number of ways - not what we expected after seeing the previous reviews. Our meal was off to a bad start when we arrived, we arrived a few minutes early and the person who seemed to be managing on the night seemed very displeased with this and made it sound like we caused her a great trouble for this. We would have been more than happy to come back a bit later if they were busy, but as they seated us when we arrived, we expected to be treated a little bit more nicely. When we ordered which was with who we guess was manager on the night, she told us that as we had booked the table late we would only have 90 minutes for our meal, and to order everything in one order as they might not have time later on to do our order, which made us both feel very rushed and frankly quite unwelcome. My partner likes her steaks rare, but was almost forced to at least have the steak medium-rare 'to let the fat render down.' We were then served for the majority of the rest of the meal by a waitress who appeared to be quite new to the job, who was very nice, helpful, and attentive, and who made us feel welcome. The food that we had was very nice, but some dishes had very small portions considering the price. We started with some oysters and a portion of the lamb saucisson, the oysters were nice, and whilst the saucisson was also nice, for £8 you'd expect a little more than the 5 thin slices than we were given. for mains, my partner had the ribeye steak which came with a chimichurri sauce, and nothing else which seemed a bit tight considering it cost ~£22. It also had unrendered fat on it, something she expected not to be the case after being told to have mid-rare. My lamb shoulder came with fennel and some other garnishes and was all in all very nice, tender, and succulent and I'd highly recommend, all for slightly cheaper. The wine we had was very nice - Gran Cerdo 'Pig Wine'. We ordered three cheeses to finish our meal and once ordered seemed to take a long time to come. We weren't timing but it felt that three pieces of cheese shouldn't take as long as they did. We finished our last course within our allocated 90 minutes, but no one came to give us the bill, so after another 20 minutes, the manager comes over and rushes through our payments, not really giving us an opportunity to process it and break it down. There was a tip already included in our bill that we didn't notice until we paid which was very cheeky and we likely wouldn't have included if we had a choice. Alas, it was all paid and fine and I'm sure if the manager was a tiny bit more patient and welcoming and less insistent on how to have our food, we would have had a much nicer experience.

Lovely place in St Leonard’s. The food and wine was absolutely delicious and lovely decor. Only marking down as the charcuterie board is literally just a few slices of the chosen meat though and it isn’t clear that it doesn’t come with bread or anything else on the menu. We ordered it and no one explained and we laughed when it arrived and asked for extra bread. Also it’s a bit cramped if you are sitting in the window. But the small size is part of the charm so can’t really complain. Staff great, food delicious and nice venue overall though - just explain the menu to your customers.

Came to visit a friend that lives in Hastings. Decided to try Farmyard, despite having visited their other restaurant in July 2020 in Hastings where the service was poor. Liked the concept and the look of the menu at Farmyard so was prepared to risk it. We came for Saturday lunch. Very quiet. Other than us, there were two other tables the whole time we were there. Two floor staff which was sufficient. Interesting enticing menu. Great wine list. There are tapas style plates and mains which meant some of us wanted oysters for starters, tapas for mains and mains. It made for more complicated order however not that complicated. We told the server how we wanted the dishes to come thru but that was lost. I got my oysters, my friend didn't get hers, she then got 2 of her tapas plates and had to wait for her other plates and I had to ask them where her oysters were. This would of been when our mains would needed to arrive yet I had to ask about our mains and only then did they give the order for kitchen to start on the mains...which meant more time to wait as my beef had to rest....my boyfriend had to wait over 75minutes for some food. What got me truly annoyed was we turned round to find the server on her phone....our glasses were empty..she hadn't come to offer us more drinks...at this point I lost my temper. The server's attitude was complacent...our server was then replaced with the other. Exactly the same attitude as their other restaurant in Hastings which has now closed down. It's a great pity that whomever owns this business fails badly on the service side of things. The concepts and food are great. Service is an essential part of the restaurant experience. I really hope they finally get that part of the business sorted or they may not last.

The restaurant feels casual and cosy but still refined. My husband and I intended on having a small dinner and sharing a bottle of wine, but the food was so incredible we just kept ordering. We didnt even get any complementary bread/nuts/olives while we waited. Even though we were starving, we found the food underwhelming and very mediocre. Would not recommend the bone marrow, unpleasant texture not much flavour. Have previously had it at St John in London where it was absolutely delicious so not a case of simply not liking bone marrow. Ben is high handed, rude and abusive towards customers. He changed our longstanding family reservation with a few hour's notice to another restaurant we haven't been to before. One of our party is allergic to shellfish and another is vegan and when my son politely responded to Ben's message to discuss the way forward he was subjected to a barrage of foul mouthed abuse and told he was "barred". Ben needs a crash course in courtesy, but it would probably not serve any purpose to educate such an angry, unhappy person who obviously hates his job and doesn't have the emotional intelligence to handle setbacks when things do not go his way. A very disappointing experience.

Gorgeous food and great atmosphere. Perfect for veggies like me and meat eater family/ friends alike wanting something a bit fancy and special. Sustainable organic edge and friendly vibes and staff. Had a wonderful evening. ✨

Very good meal, and the team were very friendly and helpful. Though please consider revising plum clafoutis with caramel or butterscotch sauce, some single cream will be lovely and allow the plum etc to sing, rather than be swamped in sweetness.

Amazing Food!!!highly suggest the roasted carrot salad with that amazing feta cheese. Truly delicious, you can really taste the flavour of fresh farm produce ingredients and not over expensive.

Recommend booking. All lovely, staff polite and helpful, portions good size (they stopped us over ordering !), interesting array of wines starting at reasonable restaurant prices, we had rioja. He had a fillet steak, perfectly cooked, I had the fish of the day (huss) with potatoes, seaweed and brown butter (slightly brave as I don't like dark green food!), utterly delicious and almost converted. Only sadness was no coffee !

Menu choices read well, but poorly executed by chef. Definitely the worst cevicé I have ever tried, had to send it back. Thick cut scollops, drowned in sesame oil. Still got charged for it. "local" asparagus on the menu at £16, this has been out of season for 2 months, Chef clearly has no idea, all dishes under seasoned, or not at all, and our group all had upset tummies all night. £160 for 4 and 2 children with no kids menu, and 1 bottle of wine. Won't be returning, or recommending. Terrible, pretentious rubbish.

This place made me consider moving to St. Leonards-on-sea! Rustic, cozy, brick wall, wood, local ingredients, natural wine, good food! What a great experience! From the cloth napkins to the great wine selection and food menu designed to share on the table! Ticked all the boxes! Absolutely fantastic! Looking forward to return to have another meal here!

Just fantastic. Had my birthday lunch here and chose everything I've ever dreamt of having. Bone marrow and steak tartare are devine 🙂 would absolutely recommend.

Not my sort of place. Good if you like wine, but I dont. The beer tap was broken so only two small overpriced tins on offer. Food was ok, but only if you like sitting in a draught eating it. One member of staff insisted the door remained ajar for covid. Why put the table there then? There is an extensive paper wine menu, but for some reason, the restaurant chooses not to print the small choice of food menu, and you have to try and order looking at your phone. We went there for a birthday meal, which the restaurant accommodated, but then charged us £20 for the privilege of eating the birthday cake on the premises. We complained, and this was refunded. Would I go there again? No, but for those who want a bottle of wine and like the food, maybe it's for you.
