Love this place. The staff are amazing and the breakfasts are just incredible. The quality of the produce is first class- proper sausages and bacon, proper toast and eggs done just how you wish. Everything is cooked to perfection.

One of the best Full English I've ever eaten. Expertly cooked using top quality ingredients - sausage, black pudding, bacon, eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms and delicious hot buttered toast. Generous portions and very reasonably priced. Good menu options - everything looked great. Spotlessly clean, attractive new re-decoration and faultless service. Lovely view out over the sea too!

I have been eating at the amazing Smiths for years. Today, having not been to Smiths for a year due to lock down, I couldn't wait to bring my family in as a celebration treat. Upon arriving we were asked to scan the COVID track and trace at the door and then were welcomed in and offered a table within a designated - marked out on the floor space. The Smiths waitresses always make you feel so welcome and serve with smiles and warmth - they helped us with the buggy and highchair etc. We ordered our range of dietary requirements foods - another reason I love Smiths as they seem to be able to cater for everyones needs. Our fresh orange juice was sooo fresh and sweet - I would love to know what oranges they use! ...the paper rainbow drinking straw made me smile. From previous experience I know Smiths always make good coffee and today my father was not disappoint. ...another great cup! Our Brunch ticked all of our brunch craving boxes. Good sized portions, eggs just right, everything cooked as we liked and the slow roasted tomatoes, which are always so delicious continue to be, well so delicious! I was so relieved to see this eatery back up running, with the owner and great chef back in situ. This owner wins extra gold stars, as years ago actually I worked at Smiths, and he was both great fun to work with and super supportive. It was really great to see you all and thank you again for some more delicious food.

We ate here last week whilst staying in the area. The Full English was top notch and the Advocardo and Feta Cheese on Toast was absolutely delicious but the most important thing to us was the attention to detail with all the Covid guidelines. Despite living quite close to Hastings and St Leonards, this was my first visit to Smiths. It was unassuming from the outside, but a warm welcome awaited us within. Having a couple of dogs with us meant we thought we should sit outside but when the weather changed we were happily allowed in, and finished a first class, tasty fish stew (that also included prawns). A great little find, a short distance from London Road, and a stone's throw from the interesting shops on Norman Road. I will definitely return sometime soon, and recommend. It was a very enjoyable experience.

Having eaten here for a number of years I can say hand on heart I have never ordered anything that I haven’t enjoyed thoroughly and I can be a fussy eater (just ask the chef at Smiths). Today we stopped for brunch and again was not let down . The scrambled eggs were creamy and the bacon cooked to perfection , we had coffees but also had a couple of mixed juices now I’m far from a fruit lover but the orange carrot and ginger definitely has a zing to it that will make me order it again . The staff are always helpful and the chef and owner Richard deserve praise for consistently producing great food for all tastes

It was the most disappointing breakfast I've had. The hollandaise sauce was watery and tasted like it was from a packet, you also only get one egg which when you pay almost £10 for eggs benedict is a joke. We also ordered a fish finger sandwich which was covered in oil and was birds eye fish fingers despite claiming its home made food (you only get 2 in a sandwich!) we told the waitress how disappointing the food was however she stayed silent and didn't even care. Definitely won't be returning and advise anyone to go to bonjour cafe couple doors down instead.

On a rather wet and windy day this was the perfect port in a storm .. only drawback was I think we were following a rush of people doing the same thing ! There’s a great menu with breakfast and lunch dishes .. service on this day was slow (purely due to the rush ) as dishes are cooked to order, but as the weather was poor we were t in a hurry and the food was worth the wait .In a lovely day there are some tables outside so next time we’ll be hoping for one of those ! We had smashed avocado and buck rarebit both spot on

It was a warm and sunny Sunday morning and we felt compelled to do something different and go out for breakfast. Have walked past Smiths countless times but never been in. What a mistake this has proven to be!Friendly service and very apologetic about the wait. It was eventually around 30 mins, but it was a nice day and the place was packed. As we were kept constantly informed of how long our food would be this wasn’t an issue! We couldn’t get to sit outside as all places were inevitably taken but it was just as good indoors, if a little warm when the sun appeared! When the sustenance eventually appeared it was a grand feast, perfectly poached eggs, lovely bread and some top quality sausage. I don’t think that I could have asked for a better breakfast. In short, don’t just ignore Smiths as I have done for years, there is greatness lurking within. We shall be returning soon in a bid to mend the errors that we have previously made!

Used to be great, so took someone for lunch, they had a burger which was just basically mince meat which fell apart as it had nothing to bind it together. I order the eggs Benedict, and the hollandaise was just this watery tasteless vile liquid. Didn't fancy eating that so sent it back and just ordered a bowl of fries. They were also awful as the oil they were fried in was either off or had fish cooked in it, but they swore they used a different fryer for fish. Never again. I even got the chef to taste the hollandaise, he didn't say much, but took the dish away.

We have been sneaking off to Smith's on gorgeous sunny Saturday mornings for years. It benefits from a great seafront location, a laid-back atmosphere, and a good selection of brunch-type food, although you'd be hard pressed if you rely on an English slap-up meal. Particularly notable are their hand-made summer pressee drinks. Seating is limited, so early attendance is crucial. I ordered fries as well but to be honest the fish cakes were so filling I really didn't need them. Hubby demolished the burger ( fries and a side salad included in the price) and left with a huge smile on his face. A mango smoothie and 2 coffees plus both meals was £25. I have just moved to Hastings. I went here because I had heard they did Eggs Benedict and I had a Sunday craving. I discovered they also do black pudding with scrambled eggs on toast and Bloody Mary's, all of which I sampled. The black pudding was better than average, a tender salty smack in the taste buds; the Bloody Mary fragrant but a bit short on the vodka. Both of these excellently executed treats aside, the chef does seem to have a bit of a problem with eggs. My scrambled eggs were hard enough to be piled up on the toast. They should have enough vim in them to want to run off the toast, like baked beans do. In the eggs Benedict, the poached egg perched on the spinach and rather good haddock was also a bit overcooked. The Hollandaise Sauce was, however, the clincher. Good Hollandaise Sauce should be thickish, yellow, redolent of lemon, fresh egg yolk and good butter, which emulsifies to form a slick lick of heavenly, citrussy comfort and luxury in the mouth. This poor, bland, watery (yep, watery....) nonsense resembled a white sauce made of flour and milk. For I swear some thickener had been added. I even toyed with the outrageous notion that it had come from a packet (just add water). Surely it could not be? Not in a place so proud of its fresh produce tradition? So much fuss over the sauce? Well yes, for me its the best bit of an Eggs Benedict, proudly poured all over it as if to announce, "Here is our badge of honour. We know how to do emulsified sauces, because we know our stuff." When that sort of stuff is served up, it sends an altogether different message, that somehow detracts from the ambition and high quality of the rest of the produce. Ah me...

I've written about Smiths before, and am now a regular. Today I had the tortilla, perfectly cooked and full of good things. Followed that with a jam and cream sponge, light and lovely, and washed down with ginger beer - and lashings of it.There are lots of good new things on the menu, and plan to try them soon.

I love this place! Just when you think it can't get better, it does! Mr. Smith has once again worked his magic and created a magnificent platter, either the "Melton Mowbray" pork pie board (delivered fresh and directly from them themselves, the pie that is, served with "to order" house colslaw) or the "Deli" board which has a lot going on, perfect for sharing (or indulging)! As ever a warm reception and convivial staff. It looks like its going to be a great summer, even if we can't rely on the weather, we can rest assured that Smiths deliver every time!

I've written about this place before, but thought I would again as its brilliant! I am a fan of duck liver pâté and order it when I see it on the menu, anywhere I am. Smiths Real Food had a special on the menu of, duck liver pâté the other day so I had to try it. Wow! Such beautiful, subtle texture and flavour, well done Mr. Smith! Great food as ever, the portion sizes are very generous so you certainly won't leave hungry! Everything is cooked to order, if you want to be in and out in 5 minutes, don't bother, you'd choke trying to eat anything that quickly...take some time & savour the love that goes into this brilliant venue. The staff are always friendly and informative, all around, good show!

visited here recently for the first time and it was lovely. i visited on a Sunday afternoon and it was not busy so the food arrived quickly. I had a veggie breakfast (poached eggs, spinach, potato cakes cherry toms) which I initally left was more money than I would usually pay but when it arrived it was well presented and well cooked and a good size portion so the price reflected that. I would definately eat here again and look forward to trying other dishes

Found Smiths after taking the dog for a walk along Hastings Seafront..Walk in to a warm welcome by the owner ( I guess) looked at the menu boards and realised we found the right spot.. Yes a little pricey but read the title.. We ordered 2 full breakfasts and once sitting down you can see no stone is left unturned when it comes to quality.. Take a look at the cutlery and sauces!Yes a little bit of wait but well worth it!! Excellent breakfasts with poached eggs done perfectly!Clearly this greasy spoon has a chef in the kitchen!!All in all great Sunday brunch and will def be back!!

I have enjoyed finding this and going here, This is my new breakfast place for the latter half of week. Michael the Customer Service Manager is a nice find and a charming person. I enjoy my eggs florentine in a large stack with homemade Hollandaise sauce.Scrum. Michael always wonders if I have not eaten for a week as I demolish it. Lovely vegetable squoozed juices. Very healthy. Nice people, good food, lovely place.

Popped in to this seaside coffee house just as the fresh scones were being brought out of the oven. The owner was so charming that we came back for breakfast the following day. Fab fresh juices. Scrummy breakfast. Good find

Starsky & Hatch is the best little hatch in town. Their oat milk lattes are delicious. Their vegan & veggie options are plentiful. The fish is fresh, & all the meals are so tasty, from their simple granola through to their delicious poké bowls. The smiles inside the hatch rival the smiles outside. Their positioning is picture perfect, with the most scenic view of St Leonards sea & beach, with Hastings to one side, St Leonards to the other, & the pier in sight; nay, reaching distance. The food is made to order, so isn't fast food, or greasy. It's good food, healthy, cooked well, & cooked quickly. The ambiance is chilled, relaxed, & full of fun. Customers range from dog walkers to swimmers, runners to box freestylers, Daytrippers to locals who keep coming back because Starsky & Hatch are so welcoming. And we will keep going back 😀
