The fish and chips here are as good as you will get ANYWHERE. The fish is a very good size and freshly cooked just as I like it. It retains its soft texture whilst still retaining its form (not at all easy to do) and the batter is to die for. Service and the friendliness of staff is unparalleled. Unlike a great many well-known 'chippies' the chips here are obviously freshly cooked and to perfection. If you order the large fish, you will need a very, very good appetite Plenty of tartar source supplied..+++ I'll be back again very soon (with friends!). This review also applies to the last three times I have had fish and chips here in the last 3 months. 5 star *****

Having seen all the good reviews about the quality of fish and chips at The Anchor decided to try out the take away service. Have to say that these were really excellent and probably the best we have had locally. Ordered earlier in the day and they were freshly cooked for collection. Can highly recommend The take out service and will definitely be back for a future order.

Walked into this bar to find a child pouring a pint behind the bar. When the women who was also there had finished taking payment for the drink she then poured her self a drink and sat down in the bar.The little girl was left standing behind the bar alone and I was left standing at the bar with no one serving. It seemed the only thing to do was walk out.

Lovely pub, great decor. Food was amazing, three of us had the fish & chips, and my youngest had the sausage. Great portion sizes and fantastic quality. I’d go as far as to say the fish was some of the best we’ve ever had, batter was really crisp, fish very meaty. Highly recommended.

After 18 months of not being able to travel to the away games we were given a 630 mile round trip to Hartlepool to start. We again were looking for a pub to stop off at for our main break in the journey - this was our first visit and what a great place The Anchor Inn in Boroughbridge just off the A1M at junction 48. Thank you to Lesley and her staff for the welcome and providing us with a extremely good buffet lunch - we had already travelled 4 and a half hours and the food provided was just brilliant and plentiful just what we needed for our 44 supporters - we stopped for 90 minutes before heading to the game. We will visit again in the future and any supporters groups travelling by coach just give them a ring and arrange a stop, they have a car park capable of taking a coach.

The new landlord, Chris, has transformed this from a basic drinking hole to somewhere you'd want to make a special trip to sample it's delights. Still a work in progress, but Chris really knows his beers, keeps them in tip-top condition, and has time to help customers choose what they would like. In addition, there's a pizza menu for when you would like a bit of simple food in addition. If anything, the pizzas are too large to eat in one sitting. I'm guessing you could have them in a 'doggy bag' if wanted. Most of the beers are Yorkshire brews, but he's made an exception for Oakham beers as they are so nice they could be brewed here. Lovely outside area, though the current weather (June 2019) means that it's certainly stay indoors time. Not the pub's fault of course. All in all, it deserves a full five stars without hesitation. If you're in Boroughbridge or near, it's a great choice.

We turned up at 6.20pm on a Sunday evening as a group of 8 including 5 children aged 2-12. They warned us that the wait for food would be long as they were busy - at least 40 minutes. As it happened, we had to wait 1 hour and 30 minutes for the food to arrive. However we were sat on a lovely beer terrace in the sunshine and we took turns walking along the beautiful riverside whilst we waited for food. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The pizzas, when they arrived, were without doubt the best pizzas we had ever had, and incredibly good value. Despite the long wait, we left feeling that we had had a great meal and would return with hesitation.

Visited here on a Saturday evening with a group of friends for the carvery. The carvery was very well run with a really good choice of meats and veg all the food was high quality and you got plenty of it. We were eating in the large room at the back of the pub this was because of the size of our party, although there are smaller more intimate areas which would be better if you are as a smaller party. To order the carvery you pay for it at the bar and they give you a ticket to hand to the chef. In summary a great place for a carvery meal which is also very good value.
