Amazing food, great service, very nice set up inside.

Rebecca's service was top-notch! She was always so smiley and outgoing, making the whole experience delightful. It's great when the staff goes the extra mile to make you feel welcome and appreciated!

First time ar the Anchor Inn. Lovely place outside and in. 3 of us had a different choice of Sunday lunch. All served in good time by polite and friendly staff. Meals were plentiful, hot and delicious, and extra gravy was provided. I would definitely eat here again, highly recommended

Came here last night (31st August) for an anniversary meal and couldn't fault anything. We started off by having a proscecco outside, then went inside and shown to our table then the waiter took our drinks order and told us the the drinks we had outside were on the house as it was our anniversary, what a great touch. I had the white crab on sourdough and my wife had the salt and pepper squid. Next we had the Chateaubriand steak to share which was cooked to perfection, even the chips were delicious as well, we chose peppercorn and bearnaise sources which again were perfect. and to finish off we both had a mini desert and cocktail, ie minivalrhona chocolate brownie with an expresso martini, and yet again faultless. my only problem was that I was too full to try anything else. All of this was delivered by a great service. you'd be mad not to try it. Looked at some reviews before going and a couple thought it was a bit pricey, and no it's not cheap, but you certainly get what you pay for and we can't wait to return. Wish I could have given it 10 stars!!!!

5* all round, popped in for a late afternoon drink and snack. Excellent service from bar and kitchen staff. Wine is actually decent which was a nice surprise, obviously someone cares here. Had 3 mini dishes for £15 and they were very tasty. Thanks to the staff xxx

Rebecca our waitress, went above and beyond to ensure that our dining experience was nothing short of perfect. And a big thanks to Chef nick and Chef luke for preparing our meals with such care and attention to detail.

Just been to the Anchor with friends and we were all disappointed with the tiny portion sizes of our meals. Two of us had the prawn linguine and one of us had the celeriac steak. Our pasta meals were similar to the starter size you get in Gusto. And my friend's cleriac steak was so small when it arrived that she had to ask for a side portion of potatoes to make it more of a meal. For the first time ever in our dining experiences, we all ordered the cheese board for dessert because we were still hungry! We did mention our disappointment to the waitress, but I think she was too inexperienced to know how to react. The pasta was £17.50, and I would be happy to pay that if I felt I was getting my money's worth! But you don't get your money's worth at the Anchor!

Had a great meal with family. The food was excellent as was the service. Minor mishap mid meal when there was a little water dripping from the ceiling. Holly and Emily got us quickly moved and all was well.

I had let the Anchor know that my husband and I were attending for our anniversary. We were given a lovely table and a complementary drink from the manager when we arrived. The quality of the food was superb as was the wine and service. It really made it an extra special occasion. Thank you to everyone at The Anchor for making it an evening we will always remember.

Food was excellent, best roast pork belly I’ve had in a long time and the kids said theirs was delicious (clean plates all round). Staff were super friendly and helpful.

Fantastic gastropub style venue. Super atmosphere and attentive staff. Food and drink on the more expensive side but worth every penny once you taste it. Varied menu and sensible portion sizes.

Was disappointed in this place today even though I had a vegetarian roast just vegetables which was very nice My friend who I was with me is a vegan ,didn’t have a great choice at all .. what she chose was okay but the price of it was disgusting and then on top of that we had service charge of 20% which I think should be a personal choice not just slap on which took our meal to £70 just for two small meals had 2 glasses of wine each ..and two desserts and 20% Was service charge so I will not be returning my friend bought my meal as a birthday treat .. and didn’t enjoy her food she felt totally cheated being a vegan and having to pay well over for her meal which consisted of a few vegetables.. everything was totally overcharged except for the roast and as I say that was just vegetables with gravy , asked for more roast potatoes as I was only having Yorkshire pudding and some vegetables on the side. When I got the meaI only had three small roast!! Had to ask and say I order more as had no main on plate . totally overpriced .. totally ashamed that I had brought my friend there to buy me a meal.. very unhappy !!!!!! And we sat outside just think £70 is a lot for a meal when it’s just a casual thing.. and also with the roast I would’ve thought they would’ve put extra vegetables on because I wasn’t having any thing else but vegetables and roast potatoes.. very very very expensive overpriced 20% should be by choice not by force..

Our waitress Emily was absolutely fantastic! From the moment we sat down, her warm and friendly demeanour made us feel right at home. She was attentive without being overbearing, always there at the perfect moment to refill drinks or check on our meal. Emily's knowledge of the menu was impressive—she offered great recommendations that were spot on. What really stood out was her genuine care and attention to detail, making sure we had everything we needed for a wonderful dining experience. Highly recommend! Five stars all the way!

Good food and good service. It’s a nice place, inside and out. Great outdoor space for sunny days, open fire place when it’s colder . Good menu and some nice vegetarian and vegan options.

Booked a table on the recommendation of a work colleague. Took my mother in law out for lunch All food excellent particularly liked the fish and chips so crispy and fresh Rebecca looked after us and she was so friendly and made us feel so welcome Will definitely pass the word along that it’s a great place!

Called in with my husband on Sunday, we didn’t have a reservation but they still sorted a table for us. Food was serviced quickly and it was delicious. The pub was nice and warm too and busy so had a nice atmosphere, All staff were great and our waitress Rebecca was attentive and friendly. Will be going again!

We had a lovely lunch here today. Food was fantastic quality and staff really welcoming and helpful. The lunch menu is great value and I like that they have smaller dessert options available. Very well furnished and relaxing atmosphere. We were not rushed to place our order or for the table to be turned over quickly. We were able to relax with a drink first and courses were not rushed out onto the table. There's not many places we will stay for desserts/hot drinks afterwards but here we felt more than comfortable to spend the afternoon.

The bar tender Cameron was exceptional throughout the evening who personally served us throughout the night catering for all our needs. The rest of the floor staff regularly came over to check on our food throughout the night and made us feel so comfortable and well-looked after throughout. The food was also cooked and displayed to perfection. Definitely a must visit. will be coming again soon.

We visited this Pub for dinner in the restaurant to celebrate a family member’s birthday. Despite being short staffed due to a staff member emergency, we were well served by Pete and the food prepared by Callum was excellent. We would certainly highly recommend this establishment as the ambience of the restaurant was nice and very conducive to a pleasant family evening.

Food and service amazing, the manager took the time to talk to us about the menu and was very helpful. Food was very good Over indulged with 3 courses,a nap room would be a bonus.

The scallops and seabass were beautiful although I did struggle with the lack of gluten free options and the price of the bill especially drinks is a negative. We called in to the Anchor Inn for lunch today just after opening time so it was quite as you would expect. It was a spare of the moment decision which proved to be a good choice especially as it was such a cold day. The lunch time menu is quite straight forwards but we could have chosen the full menu, but instead opted for the set 2 course selection of the Butter chicken burger and the fish and chips. Well the fish and the burger where excellent, full of flavour and good portions, the fish was in a very light and crisp batter , not hard and crunchy and with the minted peas and chips was a perfect meal. The Butter chicken is one of the best I've had, the fries were so good I ate most of them before I started on the burger. All in all a very good meal. The puddings did rely on ice cream quite a lot, which is great as I like ice cream and so long as its a good quality, which it is, I was happy to have it with the chocolate cookie . The chocolate Brownie with cream is also a good choice . I would certainly recommend the Anchor as well as thank the staff who served us for a great lunch.

Amazing service roast chicken dinner was absolutely amazing. Had trio of deserts too which was fabulous! Would highly recommend this pub/ restaurant and also lots of choice on a Sunday should you not fancy a roast.

Awful, possibly one of the worst tasteless meals we’ve ever had. Very disappointing but, like many places, they start off well and it all goes rapidly downhill….

Food is incredible , amazing service my favourite place on the Wirral, would highly recommend passion fruit martini, fillet steak and truffle cheese doughnuts, service is amazing will definitely be back!!! I’ve also tried the fish and chips which is equally amazing, really good quality food

Recently I arranged a reunion get together meal at the Anchor Inn, in Irby. The staff were extremely helpful and accommodating despite our group's size. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals and drinks. It was the perfect venue for us. We didn't feel rushed , instead felt able to relax in the restaurant. Special thanks to Pete and Georgia for their great service and patience.

We had a lovely lunchtime visit to the anchor! We weren’t in the mood for anything too heavy, so we shared the fish cakes and they were absolutely gorgeous - great that we had the option to add a few extras too (which Pete recommended). Compliments to the chef (Dave) - the brownie was absolutely delightful too!

Nice pub. There was a lady singing when we arrived. We were told about a couple of dishes that weren't available, when we placed our order, what we'd chosen, they had just sold out, so we opted for the roast beef, it was tasty.

Went for a Sunday dinner and wasn't disappointed. Lovely trio of meats roast dinner, everything was delicious.

Disappointing. Whilst the server was nice, the service was very slow, we waited quite a long time for our starter which was just pate to share with a bit of rocket so nothing complicated. We both ordered burgers with onion rings to share. Both burgers were over cooked, not quite sure how you get a basic burger wrong. Two out of the six onion rings were also burnt. We decided not to bother with dessert. At over £54 I would expect better.

The setting is always nice and the staff are competent and friendly. I was initially disappointed that they no longer do a separate vegan menu, but from the main menu I chose roast celleriac steak. I was beautifully presented and delicious beyond expectation. It is so nice when restaurants do a really thoughtful vegan dish not just salad or plant burger. I will definitely go back and have this again. For dessert I chose poached pear which sounded delicious, so did two other people from my party, but unfortunately this was out of stock, so I had to have sorbet instead. The sorbet was nice but I look forward to trying the poached pear in the future. Overall fabulous

We had the wine and dine menu. Good choice, steak and rotisserie chicken excellent. My starter of scallops was outstanding and so tasty served with roast apple.. Surprised to find our lovely Australian Shiraz wine was £46 on the wine list, bearing in mind our whole bill for 3 courses for two people including wine was £100. Good value we thought. Service was great, no complaints whatsoever. Thank you.

Beautiful Inn, realy nice feel when entering, lovely decor 👌 Shame about the service 😒 absolutely appalling! Mains brought while starter plates still on table. Baby meal red hot, roast chicken dinner luke warm. Couldn't wait around for dessert order so got the bill and left very disappointed.

Booked for my partner’s birthday for 11 people relatively last minute as plans changed due to the weather. Online booking allowed a max of 10, but left a note and a voicemail and very pleased that was amended for me hassle free. Very attentive and the food was great! And thank you for adding candles to my partner’s dessert!

Had chateaubriand and shared it with my dad. Wow. It was incredible. Plus, the Bernaise sauce was amazing. I could have drunk a pint of it! The food was exceptionally good in general. Sadly the service was totally rubbish. We had to keep getting up to ask for whatever we wanted. Everyone serving were rushing around and it it obvious the place was short staffed. We couldnt be bothered getting up again to order our dessert from a rushed and abrupt waiter or waitress as they ran away so we got up to ask for the bill instead. I'm wondering why we had this experience given all the good reviews mentioning great service. Even when the waiters/esses did come over they seemed like they couldnt be bothered with us. Shame as the food was amazing. If the service had matched we would have been able to relax with our food and drink and enjoy our food and get a dessert but instead we decided to get dessert and coffee at home.

Dinner was beautiful but very small amounts of vegetables and mash. These are not expensive but the price of the meal and drinks is extortionate. Lovely restaurant but just too expensive. Not good value for money.

Quality food and attentive service. What's not to like ?

I booked the restaurant for my birthday, 10th April for six of us. We had a table that suited us very well and were very well looked after by Cathryn, Becky and She’ll. The food was delicious and served promptly. We are regulars at the Anchor and recommend it highly.

Attended for Lunch. Service was excellent. Emma was efficient and friendly.

Our second visit of recent times last week and great food, great service, and attentive staff. My daughter was given crayons and a colouring page which she enjoyed and she loved her meal. Myself and my partner thoroughly enjoyed our meals and will be heading back soon hopefully!

The Anchor is within walking distance of our bungalow and given it was my partner's birthday we booked in for Sunday lunch. Peter greeted us and showed us to our table and Holly was our waitress for the afternoon. We found the food to be of a high standard and the service to be excellent. We don't visit too often but perhaps we'll be back in the near future.

Went for a few drinks after finishing playing football up the road at Pensby. 6 lads of us were able to chill out and relax in a comfortable atmosphere with great service.

Wow what a fabulous lunch I had today. Greeted and served by excellent professional polite staff. Food choices were excellent all six of us lived our respective dishes. Everyone said how perfectly cooked their food was. That ranged from steaks, fish dishes, vegetarian dishes to a perfectly cooked proper pie . Wine choice is good several by the glass options too with some more expensive wines included in this as well. It is a well designed pub space where you feel you have your own private space. It’s the kind of place you could pop in for a coffee or a drink have a casual lunch or opt for fine dining on a special occasion. This place has it all. Irby is a fortunate town to have such a high standard of ‘Pub’

I’ve only been to the Anchor a couple of times but never been let down great staff and great food.

Great atmosphere and great food! We often go here most weekends for a nice relaxed and chilled dinner. Food is gorgeous and service is friendly and welcoming, atmosphere is cosy local pub with excellent food choices…we always recommend it to our families and friends.

The Anchor Inn Wirral is a great place for a meal or a drink. It has a big car park, comfortable seating and a warm atmosphere. The staff are friendly and can't do enough for you. The deputy manager is a lovely guy. Emma served us and she was lovely. Thank you for hosting my family on Monday.

Went on 13.3.24 for a meal with family table booked for 6 a couple of guests were 10 mins late waited ages for orders to be took then another 45mins wait for starters to be served. Had fish and chips for main chips were dry fish no taste and peas were not nice dont think we will be going again

I, my son and daughter in law were very disappointed, as there was only one chef and we waited over an hour to be served. We all decided to have a main meal and a dessert. Although we all enjoyed our main meal, we were told there hadn't been a food delivery since Sunday, Mother's Day. The only sweets left were ice cream or two sticky toffee puddings. We decided to leave as our choices were not available. My family had travelled from Cheltenham to eat at the Anchor, which, because I had recommended it, left me feeling extremely disappointed.

Great food and service as always. We had the mothers day set menu and everybody in our group loved the food. Will always return here.

The best meal ever!! I had the lamb rump, it was delicious 😋 Would certainly cone again! My partner had the Sea Bass, our friends had steak and belly pork. We followed our main course with sticky toffee pudding- it was so light and very tasty!! Compliments to the chef!!!!

It was a busy service due to mother's day. The starter and main was OK but nothing special. Chicken on 3 roast was dry as a bone. The pudding was a major let down. Sold out of sticky toffee pudding and pavlova. Opted for the brownie which tasted like it was nuked in the micro. Dry and not nice. Given benefit of the doubt as was a busy day. Bonus point my mum had the fish and loved it
