The Amsterdam in Adur

The menu was slightly unclear. I thought I was ordering a sandwich it turned out to be a light bite. It wasn’t a great light bite. Menu description chicken, chorizo with baby mashed potatoes and chilli and tomato sauce. When my food arrived I first thought ok it looks good I’ll give it ago not a sandwich as first thought. From the description the baby potatoes were not mashed all 7 appeared whole. The chilli and tomato sauce hmm I think the chef forget the chilli it was just like tomato puree over the top. Not what I expected and not great or tasty the chicken tasted like rubber and chorizo was tough. I ate it as we were a birthday party but would not eat again. Staff very friendly just food let us down.

I came in for Breakfast & wow best breakfast in the area , the service was exceptional food was Hot & tasty , the place was very clean & tidy & to top it of the pub is dog friendly & even had a dog menu ,

First of all I have to say the staff are great. BUT the food is really poor. I met a friend for lunch and ordered a chorizo and chicken pie which when delivered was ministucle along with a few sad vegetables. On top of that charging over £3 for a glass of lemonade was a bit of a stretch. Combined bill for two of us was over nearly £50 and to be honest was worth closer to £20. So we sadly won't be revisiting and will go to the local italian instead where we may well at least not leave hungry after our single course and £50.

We went here for the 1st ti.e and after eating at lots of pubs/restaurants I have to say the Sunday Roast was the best. Great portion lovely flavours and the staff were all super friendly and helpful. I went with 3 friends and a small dog. Our experience was just perfect and we had 2 deserts to finish which to were just lovely.

Four of us came here for lunch after visiting Lancing College Chapel and before visiting nearby St Nicholas's Church. No - we're not religious fanatics: we just like photographing old buildings. The staff at the inn are friendly and welcoming, the dining area was comfortable and the food was fantastic (we all had something different). What more can one say? Highly recommended if you're in the area.

We now live in Cyprus but had returned to visit family. Our last night I took my wife and family (7 people) to this Inn. We had a warm welcome from friendly and professional staff. The inn is still quaint with many original features. They serve Camera beers, yes had pull!!! The food was ordered and beautifully served and presented. Overall we had a lovely experience to close our holiday. Well done, keep your stands high and smiles just as wide.

Popped in on the off chance during the week and had a fantastic meal and wonderful service by Serena and her colleagues. I had the lamb shank as my main followed by a crumble which left me stuffed. Will be back soon.

We saw this pub from the road a few weeks ago, and thought it looked very pleasant. It prominently advertises its Sunday roasts, as if they are a speciality, so we made the effort to try it out. We were so disappointed with the food. We both ordered roast pork, served with crackling. It arrived just a little bit too quickly, and very hot, with the vegetables strangely dry. It was as if the plates had been microwaved. The roast potatoes were small and soft and not at all crispy. We were each given about 4 slices of carrot, a spear or two of overcooked broccoli, and some (instant?) mash hidden under the so-so meat to make the meal look more substantial than it was. The crackling was laughable - the size of my little finger, if that. It was very much a canteen-level roast, rather than what you'd expect from a pub for around £15. This is a lovely looking pub, and the staff were welcoming upon arrival, but the kitchen was such a let-down. At 1pm on a bank holiday Sunday, the place should've been heaving, but it was almost empty. We didn't complain at the time (no-one checked how our food was) as we don't expect the staff would pass our feedback up the chain. We really do feel ripped off. There was just no flair, or sense of pride or passion, which you must have if you want customers to return. The manager needs to check out the level of roast available in neighbouring Brighton and Hove, and will see what can be achieved in order to become a destination for a Sunday roast.

Stopped in for bite whilst walking the dogs, lovely friendly welcome, dog treats and fresh water. Great, tasty food and lots of it. a lovely relaxed atmosphere.

Visited here for a drink whilst having a walk around Shoreham, this is a beautiful pub situated by the river, it's dog friendly for all the dog walkers around, they even sell dog treats! They have a great selection of local and national Cask Ales and the food is amazing, I would highly recommend this pub to anyone passing through Shoreham. Well worth a visit and we are guaranteed a very friendly welcome from Chloe..... especially if you have a dog with you!

Just had an amazing Bank Holiday roast, quick service, gorgeous fayre and reasonably priced too!! Also the most dog friendly pub I've visited where they have their own doggy menu and drinks with loads of waterbowls and free treats too. Thoroughly recommend

A treat from my 89 year old mother for Easter, she had a children's roast which she barely touched, parsnip was to hard to cut as we're the carrots, my husband also complained about his veg, my sprouts and tenderstem seemed old , Overall a disappointed event

We live in Shoreham and took our sister who was visiting from Canada for an evening meal! We ordered 3 meals, 3 came out but one was wrong as it was mushroom bruschetta from the starters menu! It should have been the main menu Mushroom with vegetables and new potatoes. So whilst my dinner was being cooked my families dinner was getting cold whilst they waited for my dinner too arrive. My husbands burger bun was burnt round the edges as well. We went back too the bar at 9.02pm too order desserts only too be told we were too late too order! Bearing in mind main courses were being brought out of the kitchen still! We have dined with you many times before, but will not be returning again. Just a shame the lovely manager was not on duty tonight!!

Sunday Roast. Great choice. Utterly delicious. Excellent value for money. Piping hot. Plenty of it even without add ons.

"Our daughter made the booking for my family of seven to attend The Amsterdam Inn on Sunday 10th March at 4.00pm. We all arrived together and on presenting ourselves at the bar we were guided to table 29. The girl who showed us to the table perhaps presumed that we had been to the restaurant before, which we hadn't. After sitting there for perhaps 15 minutes, with no waiter coming to take our order, we stopped a waiter and asked if he could take our order, he told us we had to order at the bar. Why couldn't the girl have asked us if we had dined there before, or simply told us that all orders were taken at the bar? We later found a small note at the very bottom of the menu stand to this effect. Our drinks order (minus one drink) was finally delivered to us at about 4.30pm. We placed our order for food a few minutes after placing our drinks order. The starters arrived at approximately 4.45pm, some thirty minutes after being ordered. The six adults ordered the Prawn and Calamari duo; we all received 2 very small pieces of calamari, each with the diameter of my little finger and maybe 3 small prawns, which were charged at a disgraceful cost of £7.50 each. We all then had to wait another 30 minutes or so for the worst part of the meal, for the adults at least, which was the main course. The meals without exception were bland with almost no taste, they were a "glue pot" of awful, virtually indistinguishable vegetables swamped in a very heavy gravy along side "so-so" meat, some of which had clearly not been carved in the Kitchen, indeed some of us thought the lamb shanks were akin to Lidl's "boil in the bag" shanks. If it wasn't for the fact that we were all so hungry I'm sure many of the meals would have been left only partially eaten. The wait for the "puddings" was also long, but when they came, they were perhaps the highlight of a very disappointing meal. The service was slow, with far too few waiters, or perhaps the Kitchen staff could not keep up with the orders. Our final order was for two Expresso Martinis at the exorbitant price that we found out later was at £9.50 each. The two recipients said they could not taste any vodka and the coffee was very weak. With the meal finally finished, we asked for the bill, which was printed out by Tom at Till 3 at 6.11pm, this was for £254.85. This was queried by us and another bill was submitted from Leigha at Till 2 at 6.21pm for £243.85. We then further queried where was the £20.00 deposit I paid when making the booking; this then created another bill, this time by Mathew again at Till 2 at 6.23pm for £223.85. This paid by my father Mr JN Escott". In summary, the service was very poor, the food was far from acceptable for the price you charged and most certainly we shall not return to The Amsterdam Inn for a meal. I would very much appreciate receiving a reply to this e-mail, prior to submitting a comment to Trip Advisor and others about your restaurant". I sent this message to The Amsterdam Inn on 13th March, but I have not received a reply.

Great breakfast menu with lots of choice and very reasonably priced. highly recommend and will be back again very soon.

What a great day out, food was amazing coupled with a great selection of drinks too, their Cask Ale was top quality and we were made to feel really welcome by Chloe too. We will be back very soon.

I came here with friends for Sunday lunch it didn’t disappoint hot fresh food, the cauliflower cheese was delicious! Decent sized portions great value for money. The staff were all happy and friendly, the drinks selection especially the gins is great! We will be back very soon for another delicious roast!!

Had a great night with family and friends. Staff are always friendly, made my daughter a lovely hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows. I was drinking Peroni, which always comes out well. A friend was on Timothy Taylor Landlord, which he was very happy with. Lovely roaring fire, on a bitterly cold night, was bliss!

We come to this pub as a family service and food was amazing. The Christmas decorations are lovely and complimented by the smell of mulled wine and an open log fire. Will be back for a Christmas lunch soon.

Had an excellent meal here after a lovely walk along the river Adur. The staff were very welcoming and showed us promptly to our table. All the staff working that day were very accommodating especially the manager Chloe. Our food was served piping hot and well presented. I didn't have room for dessert but was persuaded by the mulled gingerbread cider that they had available on the bar. Overall a wonderful experience which we would recommend and will certainly be returning.

Went along for lunch whilst walking in the area. Upon arrival we asked whereabouts we could sit with our dog. The response of anywhere you want was not particularly welcoming. We identified a table, ordered drinks and then looked through the menu. We put in our order and didn’t have to wait to long. The fish and chips looked OK but the sausage and mash was awful. It was a bowl of gravy drowning 3 burnt sausages on a bed of mash and red cabbage. I returned the dish asking for the removal of the excessive gravy. Sadly this only exposed the burnt sausages which I suspect where previously cooked and warmed up for this dish. Sadly the food was very mundane as was the service. We will not be returning.
